Bill is AMAZING at what he does. I was involved in a t-bone car crash that left me with a fractured leg. He fought with the other driver's insurance company and got me highest pay out they offered for my bodily injury. Life is good, your career is prosperous, you’re loved by your kid, you’re grateful to life for a promising future, then you receive that appalling phone call. Someone is telling you that you’re being investigated by the police, falsely accused of the worst crime you can imagine, and that you must call a lawyer. And you’re advised to contact Attorney Rick Lougee.
That happened to me, it may be happening to you as you read this, and I was very fortunate to get Lougee’s name. I’m the living case-dismissed proof that hiring Rick Lougee is the right decision when your entire life is in jeopardy.
Always keep in mind Lougee’s principle: You never talk to the police. Throughout my case, sadly, I realized that the police’s investigation is sloppy, they’re lazy in finding facts, the prosecution is ideologically contaminated (e.g. #MeToo), and sometimes, like in my case, rigged.
Rick Lougee assembles an effective and unshakable investigative team for all his cases. For my case, they started working almost immediately. In a matter of a couple of weeks, they revealed the facts that would in time form the foundation for my innocence. They dug deeper than the prosecution during the discovery process, and they found a considerable number of facts and police reports that should have persuaded any police detective to take a closer look at what was going on in the accusers’ house in the first place. But remember, in today’s environment, if you’re accused, you are guilty until proven otherwise. Lougee was determined to demonstrate my full innocence and systematically rejected any proposal of a plea bargain from the prosecution. We agreed that we will go all the way for our battle at trial.
From my experience, Lougee operates using three strategies: He is brashly honest and clear with you about the difficulties of the case. He strategizes with a military mind, planning always under the worst scenarios. He puts extreme care to the detail of law’s fundamentals in his motions, executing the defense brilliantly and effectively in court. I was fortunate to see Rick fighting for me in court. I saw him delivering at least two Perry Mason moments for my case.
My case was complicated by the conundrums of the pandemic, which caused a long waiting process. The nature of my case involved false memories of abuse. Lougee undertook a careful and thoughtful search for the best expert witness from very prestigious academic institution. He covered all the corners of my case, never underestimated the prosecution, and never left my case to the odds. We were ready for trial.
In a fortunate change of events and new information, Lougee discovered a pattern in the police detectives in charge; they were secretly coaching the accusers to provide favorable evidence for the prosecution. And in a most disgraceful act, the police department destroyed all the evidence that we know existed. This triggered the dismissal of my case.
During all my predicament journey of my case, I felt confident that Rick would use all his experience and talents to destroy the prosecution’s case in order to save me from a terrible fate. My confidence was based on Rick’s experience. He has an extensive list of cases that demonstrate he never is afraid of how big the case or the prosecution is. He has been in David vs Goliath situations. He has historical cases featured in newspapers and magazines like The New Yorker, or you can find his cases in academic books on criminal law. But that’s the last thing he cares about. He is focused on beating the prosecution case, but most importantly, he cares about demonstrating your innocence. He will fight for you, call him.

I was falsely accused of two sexual felonies and was facing 17 to 39 years in prison. That amount of time would equate to life in prison for crimes I never commited. My life was coming apart and because the system is heavily stacked against the defendant, I was almost hopeless. He was very honest with me about what to expect and always prepared me for the next step. I was rear ended on my way to work. I tried to deal with insurance company on my own but got nowhere since there was not much damage to my car. Mr. Steve explained that these cases can be tough to fight but decided to represent me nonetheless. We WON. My teenaged son, while intelligent in many aspects of life, made a very bad decision and was arrested along with a couple of friends for drug possession (felony) & alcohol (minor in possession). Doug represented me in another case & delivered very favorable results so I was confident when I approached him with my son’s case.
Doug took my son and another boy’s case and represented them as co-defendents. Doug worked with a State Prosecutor in/out of court for a weeks, and in the end their cases were dismissed. The boys were required to attend drug and alcohol classes & complete community service hours. Needless to say, my wife, son & I were more than pleased with the outcome!

I had a Careless Driving charge, in which I showed up for my first appearance by myself. The DA, wanted to give me a deferred sentence and in return he wanted 4 hours of Traffic School and 25 Hours of Community Service.
I said no and scheduled it for a Trial Preparation and a Jury Trial. I was in over my head, so I got on Avvo and found Mr. Bussey and hired him.
Mr. Bussey. was able to Plea Bargain it to a Deferred Sentence, so that it wouldn't show up on my record.
In return I did a 4 Hour Master Drive Class and Paid $150 plus Court Costs - $212.50 No Community Service. I was ecstatic!
If your life is on the line, you wan't an experienced Trial Lawyer who's name is well respected in the Legal Community, so you don't have to go to trial!
He got it resolved quickly and efficiently and this is all behind me now.

I recently was pulled over for driving on a revoked license & no seat belt in Lake County. While on probation. I was absolutely sick to my stomach & Affraid. I called a good friend of mine and explained what happened to me. He told me to call Paul.

Do not let insurance companies bully you. You can consult/hire any lawyer, but having the right lawyer(s) to stand your ground will give you a chance at throwing a right hook at the insurance companies and potentially win the case with an uppercut. We have completely annihilated the defense. From my experience, I’d advise that you give 100% and ask questions. The right lawyer will and should always give you his honest opinion. I’ve worked hard with my lawyers for 4 years, and even though there were little to see in those 4 years, the end result was worth the battle.

Dave Kalabanka is an amazing attorney. When others would not take my case,saying, "it's too difficult" Dave didn't turn me away no matter how difficult it looked. I had a workers comp case pendng, and two MVA cases and we still won in the end. Dave took time with me to make sure I understood everything, he was easy to talk to and he assured me, it's not going to be easy but we will get through this and we did. From the two accidents, I had to go through 4 surgeries and they where trying to give me little, Dave made sure I got a substantial amount for my settlement. Chris O’Brien (& his team) are incredibly honest people and tenacious lawyers. After working with him for ~2 years, I can confidently say they’re in this for the right reasons and you want them on your side. I was viciously attacked by a dog (leaving permanent scarring even through layers of clothing) — and the dog owners not only showed no regard for my injuries they tried every trick in the book to avoid taking any responsibility (including moving out of state after the bite was reported). Chris didn’t give up on fighting for me — and ultimately was kind enough to even waive his fees given the final settlement value. Chris truly cares about the well being of his clients, which is something you’ll need when you’re at your most vulnerable. My husband and I hired Jason after my husband was in a bad car accident. Jason was fantastic through the long process of getting my husband the proper compensation for his current and future losses, he was educated and seemed to genuinely have my husbands and my best interest at heart. Mr. Wendell Belknap has been handling legal documents such as Last Will and Testament for my wife and me for many years. When my wife passed away last year, I asked Wendell for help with settling an IRA account that my wife had forgotten to link to a beneficiary. He was immediately helpful, explaining the various options available. After we selected probate as most appropriate, he carefully explained all aspects of the process, guiding me through how to get the personal representative class, summarizing assets, and formal notification (listing in local papers) for creditors, which he took care of. He referred me to another attorney who specialized in estates to help with determining the value of the estate. Additionally, Wendell personally handled communications with the IRA administrators regarding the probated estate so that appropriate paperwork would be completed.
Wendell was always available for my questions and was clearly concerned that the process should be as easy and painless as possible. While probate can take a long time, and this one did, I was never concerned with the process knowing that Wendell was watching it every step of the way. I would highly recommend Wendell as your first contact lawyer.
