Shannon did a wonderful job setting up my LLC and creating the necessary legal documentation for my small business. Not only did she ensure I had what I needed for my present situation, she ensured that the operating agreement and other documentation would be applicable as the company grows. She also takes the time to really listen to what I need and then gives me advice and opinion. She tells me the way things really are which I find invaluable. When I review the work Shannon presents to me it is impeccable. Unlike other law firms I have dealt with before, I am confident I will not find spelling errors, cut and paste errors and errors that could have easily been caught through proofreading. Shannon takes pride in her work and it shows. When represented in a legal matter she was 100% behind me and I had no doubt where I stood from the beginning regarding the case matter and the legal fees. I highly recommend Shannon.

On July 3, 2012 i found myself at the mercy of the IG. Senior staff distanced themselves and I became a pariah. Justice department waived my case, but my Agency wanted a poster child -- totally ignoring years of excellent work and the fact that basic procedures had been followed (work place practices not violated). Mr Heilbrun got me face time on the Hill and in the Wall Street Journal and the written materials he has prepared for the MSPB are marvelous. He is a creative and dedicated defender of the innocent. I would HIGHLY recommend him if you are a fed and in a hostile work environment or being forced to retire early due to your Agencies desire to hire YOUNGER cheaper staff

She held our hand and that's fine, but we wanted immediate results. That wasn't the case at all. We had to go to court 3 times and each ended with us having no resolution. But 3rd times the charm. She recounted everything, I MEAN EVERYTHING, in the other two hearings and was able to get money back, damages, and made them pay her fees. It was down right majestic how she handled the jurors. She was on the ball and didn't let up. I ALMOST felt sorry for the other side. She also handled getting the judgment which was another matter all together that we didn't know about. Again, she handled it with swag. We got a check from them trhough her in 2 months! I told other attorneys and they ask for her number. She is a hero in my book.

I retained the services of Feldesman Tucker Leifer Fidell when I needed representation in my divorce proceedings. The dissolution of a long term marriage was very emotional and difficult, but Mary Pence put me back in charge of my life, and negotiated an excellent agreement and financial settlement. I recently needed legal assistance in enforcing certain terms of my agreement and, once again, engaged the services of FTLF. Jonathan Dana and Mary McGuinness Saxon were in touch with me immediately, and over the next six months, did an outstanding job of resolving the issues. Phone calls and e-mails were responded to within twenty-four hours and I was kept fully informed of any and all actions taken on my behalf. My case, once again, had a totally satisfactory outcome

Although I had worked with five attorneys prior to working with Mr. Guiterman, I never had an advocate until I hired him. Mr. Guiterman is not only knowledgeable about family law, he is a no-nonsense aggressive attorney that will do everything he can to help you. He has the courage to tell you when you are not on the right side of an issue and the skill to find the opposition’s weakness. He comes prepared to litigate, if necessary, and to give you the strongest hand in negotiation. While other attorneys seemed to be concentrate in creating billable hours, he focused on helping me efficiently and effectively as possible. Frankly, I do not know what I would have done without his assistance. I highly recommend him for custody and father rights issues.

Rebekah has counseled me in a complex, high-conflict custody case with dedication, professionalism, and consistently sound guidance. Her cool head under pressure and in crisis situations has been invaluable, as has her understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence. I have been impressed with the strength of her many advocacy skills -- in my case, Rebekah has been an efficient and clear drafter, a perceptive negotiator, and a thorough and tenacious litigator. The outcome has been successful in every court proceeding in which she has represented me, including a full trial. Rebekah is very responsive and is also accessible on a personal level. She brings to her practice a warmth that makes it easy to discuss with her family matters close to the heart. She has both a tremendous work ethic and a caring spirit. Highly recommended.

Lori is an excellent attorney. I live 4 hours away from DC and not familiar with the civil court system in DC. Lori guided me through a motion filed against me for a reasonable price and without having to travel. We communicated on the phone and email until the morning I had to appear in court. She was very quick to respond to all of my questions (and I had tons of questions). She was well prepared for court and had the motion dismissed at the hearing level. My case was dismissed early on and I am very confident in her. I would definitely hire again or recommend her.

Mr. Parr represented my wife and I in connection with a drug injury case. He and his law firm clearly know what they are doing and kept us well informed during the lengthy process. We ultimately obtained a terrific settlement and were very happy with how everything was handled. We strongly recommend Mr. Parr and his law firm, Ury & Moskow, for drug injury cases.

Janei is one of the best attorneys I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She took over my case about half way through and I could not have asked for a better representative. Janei brings a wealth of knowledge with her, and fierce attitude that one expects out of a great attorney. Janei guided me through all of the particulars of my case and got me an amazing outcome. Anytime an issue arose with my case, she presented with excellent solutions, and a thorough understanding of the EEOC process. I would highly recommend Janei to anyone looking for an attorney to represent them in any dealings with the EEOC or discrimination process.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
