He didn't communicate with me my entire trial. Never reached out to me. Not even once, even when I left voicemail, emails ect. I told him the day of my trial I wanted to use a deferred judgment. He did not do so. Now I have that on my record for a simple accident. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!

I didn't expect a public defender that would actualy work for me like Thomas did . I assumed since they were state provided they worked for the system . Thomas was able to help prove that the prosecutors case had more holes then swiss cheese and I eneded up leading to a lessor charge.

Terzo has represented me a couple of times in Criminal Defense cases. And worked hard to get me a fair deal that everyone good agree on, in a timely manner. I strongly recommend him as a Criminal Defense lawyer, I have briefly consulted with about representing me in a Family Law case. And intend have him represent me in that matter as well.

I hired Bethany J. Verhoef Brands, July 3, 2010 and paid her to represent me in a DUI. All I have done is given this person my money, but she never did anything in my behalf. She knows that I live out of the State of IA. I have tired to keep in touch with her with no avail and no return calls to me. I received a warrant for my arrest and I have called her almost everyday to get update from her. It appears that she still representing me because I need to contact her other wise the courts will not provide me with any current information on this case. I know that she got paid in full but she has failed to dismissed her self from the case.

I knew it was a mistake to contact Jamie after recalling his disciplinary action in 2016 but I thought I’d give him a chance. My initial consultation with Jamie consisted of a spontaneous, random five minute phone conversation in which he listened to absolutely nothing I said. Instead he acted like I couldn’t understand an elementary concept that he was purveying. He seemed more interested in the sound of his own voice and collecting the $20k that he quoted me rather than actually considering how he could be of assistance. He went on to brag about how he had been an attorney for 13 years (with an asterisk*) as he gave out incorrect information about possible courses of action. Obviously this was not a pleasant or productive experience. Fortunately, I have found a much more informed attorney that has my best interest at heart versus his ego and his wallet.

I can't say enough great things about him! Very professional, intelligent, easy to talk to and get along with, easy going, great guy, and most importantly he knows what he is doing! I'm not sure what else to say other than I would definitely recommend him to anyone needing an attorney.

The only complaint was "Robert" who is an a**wipe extraordinaire. HIs complaints are bogus. The real reason he is upset is that he did not follow my advice, in fact refused to so, and ended up with a result he did not like, and THEN wanted to talk me and left several voice mails over the weekend. Apparently he though for his measly payments I was on call for him 24/7.

Being from out of town we contacted John Wunder by referral. This time is during the Corona Virus epidemic. We paid the initial $250 consultation fee and was only able to correspond with him thru email. We would ask John to please call us to talk but I think he may have responded to two request by phone. He really did not provide the family with much legal suggestions as to how to fight our situation. He only corresponded with the other attorney involved and gave us the options the opposing attorney offered. I was the family member of the deceased, I was the executor and trustee of the will involved. The complaint against me was a live in girlfriend of the deceased. Of course during this time another $500 dollars was involved in John fee. John went from a consultation to hire of course and still would not correspond with me by phone. I never met this man face to face! John did even less for me and my family after the hiring fee. I definitely would not ever hire or even consult with this attorney ever again and would not recommend him for any type of situation!!!

I am from Illinois and went to College at Central. In 2017 I got a ticket in Pella. I hired Wes to make sure my license would not get suspended and insurance would not go up. I wanted to plea not guilty. He advised if we moved court date past my 21st birthday it would not be suspended in Illinois. We moved the court date back and I plead guilty. A few months later I get notice my license is suspended for 60 days because I got tickets within 24 months of each other. His excuse was "I saved you from one suspension instead of 2." and suggested that I should have known about the 2nd potential suspension. (If I knew this, I would have no need to hire him) Four years late I am still having to pay higher insurance rates because of this. If you are from out of state, do not use Wesley.

Wes handled my divorce very efficiently, and with great integrity. He kept me updated, telling me what I needed to know when I needed to know information. He helped me be completely prepared for hearings which gave me so much peace and ease under very horrible circumstances. He was kind, caring and offered options, outcomes and guidance all along the way. The costs, expectations, and most likely outcomes were accurate - no surprises. Other lawyers I consulted with came across aggressive and offered outcomes far exceeding what was fair and likely possible. He was able to represent me in a way that achieved all our goals and thus meeting (and even exceeding) my needs and expectations. He and his staff were very attentive - always returning my calls, emails and concerns with quick and thorough attention. I had complete confidence that I was being represented in the best ways possible.

Arrogant, Rude, Unprofessional NOT RECOMMENDED!! We called Vicki to speak about a child custody case. She was very dismissive and rude. She actually hung up on us because she wasn’t suppose to be in her office that day she said. So then maybe don’t answer the phone?! Should’ve checked her reviews, they speak for themselves.

I wish they have the option to have one less than one star, but they don’t. I hired this lawyer—or actually my company hired him—for an unsafe passing ticket. The lawyer called me, but was not ready to listen to me. Instead of hearing my side of the story, he immediately started lecturing me, saying I had done something wrong and I should not drive like that in the first place. He would not let me talk. After the lecture, he told me he would see what he could do for me. I tried to explain that he was misunderstanding the charge. Instead of listening, he said, “I always have this problem with people who don’t speak English.” He kept asking me, “Do you speak English? Do you speak English?” After one month called me. He said he had contacted the general attorney and was waiting to hear back about my ticket for not having my phone mounted properly. This was a ticket from a year before and not why I was contacting him. When I tried to explain this, he said, “If you’re not going to listen to me, I will hang up.” I said please let me talk and explain that you’re talking about the wrong person, but he hung up. I called him again. I said please let me talk. He refused and said that people from out of the USA don’t understand English and he hung up. And then no answer to my calls while I’m 2 days away from my trial. He finally called me later saying “oh I found out what’s wrong, and I will send another email to general attorney.” But by this time there was no way I’m going to get any deal because of my lawyer. So he told me he can’t do anything for me after one month. I had no choice but to pay the ticket and take a point for an offense I did not commit. When I talked to some other people, I found out that he had done this not just to me, but to another 2 friends. I think that he treats people this way when he thinks they don’t know their rights or how to protect themselves. I’m going to fill out a complaint to the Iowa State Bar association.

Amanda was hired for a couple diffrent cases, she did a great job. Then was representing on my behalf in a car accident claim. The woman had ran a stop sign hit my father and I caused damage. I lost my job of 8 years due to injury. Had multiple surveys 75,000 in medical bills. Suffering from a brain injury i lost my home, job, kids, unable to preform daily task like I normally would. I left everything in her hands thinking under oath she would have my best intrest. She copied my signature from another document that I did not consent to. When I confronted her about it she became very defensive and started to use my disability against me. Things took a turn from there as I spoke my TRUTH and concerns given to me as a RIGHT and to not be used against me WRITTIN in the CONSTITUTION. I then told her that my concerns were valid and if from that moment forward if I had any questions about her character and contract I would have to kindly let her go off of my case and find new representation that has my best intrest and my rights will not be violated. She got very aggravated and began to say with an attitude on speaker phone with witnesses on my end. That my feeling arnt validated because my judgement is off due to my TBI TRAMATIC BRAIN INJURY my family then took over on my behalf that what she was saying was cruel and inaccurate. She began to ask them if they was my new representation. They stated no . I then received a letter in the mail saying that she had dropped my case 2 months before Trial knowing the statue of limitations would be in full effect I didn't have the knowledge in due time to represent self. She put a 20,000 lien on me and put something into the system so I could not find any other counsel due to conflict of interest even out of town lawyers wanted to help me but couldn't violate whatever she had put in. When I had went to court against the other party I showed up alone unable to proceed because I didn't have a lawyer. My case was thrown out and the 1 million she promised me by Christmas was no longer. My pain and suffering wasn't enough from the accident or losing my father, house, kids, job, unable to do daily activities owning almost 100,000 in medical bills now having a 20,000 lien on me from her, not able to proceed with my case or being compensated for what I was owed. All because I stood up for my Constitutional Rights that she[ without a doubt violated] I ask that you think twice before hiring her or the firm behind her. We hire someone out of good faith in what they tell us not ever thinking this will be the devastating outcome. Look into who your hiring and who they say they are and who they actually are and they match. By the universal law every cause has an effect it has changed me for the better inside on the material I have nothing. I will stand true to my character always because of this. Lesson learned. Everything has a consequence so my wish is to help others avoid this if possible. Thank you! Sovereign

As a lawyer she did what was needed in the past, however her recent ability to do so is questionable. Her sharp, blunt and indignant reactions have been taken as such. Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
