If I could give a lower review I would. They never answer the phone for you so you can make a payment and they won’t fix their payment portal so you can’t make a payment online. Don’t bother leaving a voicemail because they won’t call you back. Spoke to one representative and told them how difficult it is to get a payment placed and they said “We reserve our professionalism for our clients. Not the people who owe us money”. The money I owe them is from medical bills that were sent to them two months after my hospital visit even with making payments.

They will steal your money from your joint bank account, so they will take other people's money to pay for someone debit with no information sent to you prior to them doing it and when you call they will not answer or return calls. They are slimy attorneys that will do unethical things to get money

This company won't ever answer the phone and the voicemail hangs up on you. You can't even get ahold of somebody to resolve an issue. Garnishment has been paid but I can't move forward with my bank because they haven't signed off on their end. Don't know how these people look in the mirror everyday

Not recommended It took him a year and 9 months just to finalize a child support modification and he didn’t even draft the paperwork, one of the parties finally had to. He never sent one billing statement showing how the advance was used in 2 and 1/2 years. Even when one was requested. He bullies the parties into agreements under threat of losing parenting time. In a 2 1/2 year period not one formal recommendation was sent to the court. He doesn’t look out for the best interests of the child. He has caused trauma, physical and mental harm to a 4 year old child with his arbitrary decisions. He does not do his due diligence. He says he’ll “look into” an issue when in reality that means he’s not going to do anything. He also says the case management process is transparent- it’s not. He will have one-on-one phone calls with each party which is contrary to his statements. He is untrustworthy. His word means nothing. He will tell you one thing and do something different. It is far better to get an intelligent case manager verses this supposedly educated one. Every colleague I have ever talked to speaks about how big his ego is. Thankfully the parties and their attorneys were able to agree that Bud Dale be terminated as the case manager. He has no business practicing family law.

My girl was in bourbon county jail for a month, taken there by Cherokee county cop. From Cherokee county jail for failure to appear. I called amy Ross and let her know this so she could reschedule her court date after her release. The day she got released, my girlfriend called Amy Ross to ask about her court date Amy informed her it was Aug, 1st at one thirty. Then on July 31st in the morning , my girlfriend called Amy Ross again to make sure her court was Aug.1st at 1:30. And she confirmed once again, that her court was Aug 1st at 1:30. Around evening on July 31st, Cherokee county, came rolling in our driveway 4 cars deep with a warrant for my girlfriend for failure to appear. I call Amy Ross and she said I don't know why , and she will see if the judge will get her in tomorrow. With representation like that , who needs it.

Aline Pryor took my money and gave me nothing but more stress in return. She's friends with the other lawyers and she goes in and makes deals that are not in her clients best interest. Than when I started questioning her she quit my case right before we were scheduled to go to court. Waste of time and money. If you are looking for a lawyer to truly help than STAY AWAY FROM ALINE!!!

I would 100% agree with the other negative reviews. At the initial meeting, Aline and her assistant seemed very attentive and promising. However, the case became about the money than handling my case. Would agree that she was condescending and doesn't listen to her client who hired her. I also was tasked with putting together meaningless paperwork and providing background information. All of which was never used and it was clear she never read it. I did catch her in a lie about a discussing with the opposing attorney. When I questioned her I received a belittling email back. It's hard to switch lawyers when you have sunk $27K into the case. Save yourself time and money and look elsewhere. The experience with her was worse than than the reason I hired her. Worse decision...

I can't say enough great things about this attorney. She was always straightforward with me about my case and the potential outcomes. Mr. Ebert ran up attorney fees and avoided trial. I paid this attorney $26,000 and he sued me for another $8,000, refusing to take any responsibility for the insurmountable fees which he knew I could not afford. His work was repetitive, costly and unnecessary. I realized too late that while he presents himself as a divorce attorney, he charged me thousands of dollars to get legal advice from other attorneys and later learned that his reputation is to run up fees to settle right before trial. Beware.

Absolutely do not hire this attorney. He is only interested in money. I believe I read another review after he took on my case. My situation was very similar. He provided very little in terms of services but will bill you for any possible service he provides. You can find any lawyer that will provide similar services at a fraction of the cost. You should absolutely avoid this attorney. Fortunately I've only had to do with attorneys a few times, but he is especially arrogant and self-serving.

Me and my boyfriend was referred to him by another attorney for my boyfriend 's mother's estate and when my boyfriend started asking questions about fees and when fees are paid which is general questions people ask when hiring an attorney and if you are relaying information to other family members that are also paying for it. Mr. Karlin stated that he was nervous about handling the case in regards of payment and referred us to another law firm. Not sure if he is "a professional " or not. Most attorneys would of asked a question before jumping to conclusions as such.

Did well in court. Accomplished what we were after. Office staff is very rude. Had a misunderstanding with one of the office personnel and I tried to call and explain the situation. Again, talked to very rude and told if I read what they sent me I wouldn’t be asking questions. I asked if this is common practice to treat your customers like that, response was yes. Asked who her supervisor is, response of no one. Ok so how do I make a complaint to your office? You can write a letter. Just down right rude. This was a 6 minute conversation. 3 minutes later Tom calls to tell me if I’m an ass don’t call his office. Claims he listened to the conversation the receptionist and I just had. Also claimed to listen to our previous conversation 2 weeks ago. LYING!!!! How can you listen to a 6 minute conversation in 3. Do yourself a favor and go another route.

Instead of doing that, he pushed me to settle and told me I should give the petitioner everything they asked for because I was in the wrong. He continued to bill me after I fired him, far beyond the retainer I paid. I had a child custody case that he should have stood up for. Instead Pat was doing his best to prevent me from gaining custody. My ex is a alcoholic, when drinking she pulled my son out of my arms, then rolled her ankle on a sloped curb. Thus sending the child to the ground at the age of 3. She had been picking my son up from the sitter while intoxicated. My son is shuffled off to all kinds of people, and still I am denied visitation. I have had no contact with my son for over two months. And still Pat sides with the mother. Pat Blanchard is by far the worst attorney ever. My ex is a dancer. I think his opinion is swayed by her looks. My son has been hit in his leg by her boyfriend leaving a bruise on his leg. I am the one they are accusing of making false reports. This is the most painful experience I have ever felt in my life. My son has been on stage in a local strip club touching the pole n everything else in there at the age of 5. While I was at work. N still Pat will not stand up for what is right. I am looking at granting full custody to my ex because I can't deal with the emotions nor be incriminated for telling the truth. This situation is twisted. Pat if you read this you should be ashamed of who you are.

I’m going to be filing a formal complaint against Kristy Battershell and Melinda Baren, I called to ask a question when it comes to filing some papers, and which papers to file first. Immediately when the phone was answered Melinda had a very rude tone, did not seem eager to help me at all. She proceeded to cut me off multiple times and tell me she couldn’t help me and to just go online. Now I understand everything is online but I tried to file and she would not take it and couldn’t tell me why. I asked for someone higher up and she forwarded me to Kristy who had the same attitude and laughed at me and said “I was right next to her the whole time and it wasn’t rude”. I don’t believe when filing a complaint I should be laughed at by two lady’s who are clearly good acquaintances and will back eachother up when they are in the wrong.

I would not recommend her to anyone. When I called to schedule a consultation regarding a divorce, she refused to assist me, laughed, and abruptly ended the call while still laughing. This situation is already highly stressful, as it involves children and the sale of a home. My brother is currently using her services, and has not had any positive results from her either. Her snotty demeanor is unprofessional for someone who is supposed to be in the community to assist, and help make the transitions in life a little more manageable.

Do not hire her for any divorce matter. You are better representing yourself. She did nothing besides bill me large fee amounts for nothing she did. We had to do all the work for her. She rolled over and gave in to everything the other attorney wanted. She would never fight for anything. She didn't respond to messages left about the case. Once the case was over I lost more than what she ever said I would lose. She told me to file first to get the advantage with the custody parenting plan and residence. The only advantage was for her to fill her pockets with my cash. a lot of my cash. Then the ex got everything besides the large fees my lawyer took. Worst in lawyer the area!

Lawyer Kurt Kluin The third lawyer on the case was Chanute Lawyer Kurt Kluin. I paid him a cash retainer up front and paid his monthly statements. Mr. Kluin filed the first amended Petition/Complaint in the Case adding Chanute Attorney John as a defendant as the Executor of the Estate. While Chanute Attorney Kluin was helpful and seemed motivated early on in the Case, he quickly succumbed to pressure (real and/or imagined) from Chanute attorney John and told me, “I have to work with him (John) every day, and withdrew from the case telling the Court that I was unable to pay his legal fees. I was current on my bill when he withdrew. While I believe that Kurt Kluin is a reputable lawyer and decent person it counted for little in my case. As in many cases, local politics rule locally. Additionally - and again my older brother Ivan wrote a derogatory and threatening letter to Kurt Kluin as he did Ted telling Mr. Kluin that his practice would suffer if he continued to represent me. I would rate Mr. Kluin as a “C” as in Coward. The day we buried my Dad, my son Adam asked my brother Ivan why they would not let us see Grand Pa before he died. He told my son. “It’s Larry’s fault that you were not allowed to see your Grand Pa before he died, you see Larry has to pay for his bad conduct.” He then told me. “You and Dad have had it your way all of these years, now you are not going to have it your way any longer.”

The third lawyer that I hired for my Wilson County Kansas Fail v Fail District Court Case was Chanute Lawyer Kurt Kluin. As it turned out he was just another Lawyer, and not my Attorney. I paid him a cash retainer up front and paid his monthly statements. Mr. Kluin filed the first amended Petition/Complaint in the Case adding Chanute Lawyer John Rubow as a defendant as the Executor of the Estate. While Chanute Lawyer Kluin was helpful and seemed motivated early on in the Case, he quickly succumbed to pressure (real and/or imagined) from fellow Chanute Lawyer John Rubow and told me, “I have to work with him (John Rubow) every day, and withdrew from the case telling the Court that I was unable to pay his legal fees. I was current on my bill when he withdrew. While I believe that Kurt Kluin is somewhat a mildly reputable lawyer but also a decent person it counted for little in my case. As in many cases, home town local politics Trumps Justice. He made several other mistakes in my case and in my petition. Additionally my older brother Ivan Lee Fail wrote a derogatory and threatening letter to Lawyer Kurt Kluin as he did my Lawyer before him, Ted Knopp from Wichita. My brother who got over $1,000,000 out of the Case while I got Zero told lawyer Kluin that his practice would suffer if he continued to represent me. I would rate Kurt Kluin as a seemingly good person and perhaps an average competent and good attorney, although as it turned out not a good attorney for me. He quit in the middle of the case thereby contributing to the loss of my case and $650,000. The day we buried my Dad, my son Adam asked Ivan Lee why they would not let us see Grand Pa before he died. He told my son. “It’s Larry’s fault that you were not allowed to see your Grand Pa before he died, you see Larry has to pay for his bad conduct.” He then told me. “You and Dad had it your way all of these years, now you are not going to have it your way any longer.” You can Google Ivan Lee Fail, John Roy Fail and June Dedeke or go to Fail Family . net

Mr. Apt was the first lawyer that I hired in the case. He is located in Iola Kansas. The same day that I buried my father on December 23, 2005, I paid Mr. Apt several thousand dollars to represent me and file my case. Mr. Apt admitted a few months later that he was ill equipped to help me do anything in my case. I had talked him prior to my father’s death about helping me set aside the “No Contact Order” that my sister had filed against me preventing me from seeing my father and correcting the deed before he died. I had also requested that Mr. Apt file a Motion for an autopsy of my father’s body. I felt then and feel stronger now that the sudden death of my father under very suspicious circumstances had a foul smell of foul play. Mr. Apt was inept and unable to help me see my father, and file a motion for an autopsy. He told me that he had never filed a motion for an autopsy before. He did nothing but talk. He was slow and/or failed to respond to my repeated phone calls, letters and Emails. After an extended period of time with nothing filed in the case, no autopsy, and no answers Mr. Apt told me, “This case is way over my head.” He referred me to lawyer Ted Knopp in Wichita Kansas. He told me that lawyer Knopp was well experienced in this type of case and had written law on my type of case and would do a good job for me. I would rate attorney Chuck Apt as a “D” for dumb.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
