My experience being Esayas’s client so far has been one that’s put me at ease and confidence. He’s a good listener and provides many resources. Very dedicated to his work and will do everything to fulfill obligations and prepare his clients. I’ve felt comfortable about sharing my story while I seek his guidance with immigration. I believe he has the ability to build trust with clients that also made me feel encouraged and well prepared for my case (which was a success). Esayas is an advocate for his clients, not just in their cases, but also in the overall situation and reality that his clients are facing. He’s driven by purpose, hence takes all relevant information to speak for his clients truth. All the way, I felt super supported and he’s an effective communicator which made everything easy for me. Again, I thank him for his dedication and effective guidance.

Mr Donald Goldbloom is a very nice easy going attorney. He explains every thing he does in our case. If here is a problem like we had after 2 years of it being discharged he there for us and helped us through it. Can't say enough good things about Donald Gold bloom and his wonderful staff. What I liked most was the down to earth feeling you get at his office and those that work with him and us.

Settling a real estate transaction during the COVID-19 pandemic when all parties were in different states! Marc Sliffman couldn’t have been more professional or efficient. Coordinated all the bits and pieces like the pro that he is—and did it with such thoughtfulness and kindness. I so appreciate this level of service.

Mr. Shore was awesome. In a discrimination claim from an unhappy rental prospect, Tony guided me in handling the issue adroitly and with delicacy. The HUD inspector was satisfied that I had done nothing wrong nor inappropriate. The claim was dismissed. Mr. Shore also aided me in preparing arguments against fines levied on me by an HOA. The fines were ultimately dismissed. I would strongly recommend Mr. Shore to anyone with real estate issues.

First and foremost, if you’re looking for someone who truly has your best interest at heart and who will keep your integrity in tact, while fighting some of the hardest things in your life, he’s who you need. He is honest, very straightforward, extremely forthcoming, has excellent communication, works all hours to ensure your legal needs are met, and truly puts 100% of his effort into ensuring you’re prepared for what’s to come. He has no problem answering tough questions, or asking them. He has a very kind demeanor for his clients, but is very intimidating to the other party. I could not appreciate him more than I do. If you’re looking for excellent legal advice and a phenomenal attorney, contact Mr. Keenan. (Client for 4 years)

Andrew did a great job for my case. He got a very good outcome for me despite a somewhat uncooperative prosecutor. He was very good at translating the legal quagmire into an understandable discussion. He was also sympathetic my particular situation, and amenable to my expectations. We were able to get the prosecutor to drop the charges by agreeing to a set of unobtrusive probation requirements. Everything went more smoothly than I was anticipating.

After having 2 attorney's that left me high and dry, I contacted Scott Goldschein regarding a restructuring of my current mortgage. My husband was out of work for 3 years and thank God I still had my job. Scott and Lede were my God send. They stuck with me through thick and thin. My property was going to foreclose at least twice. If you haven't gone through something like this you have no idea the amount of stress it puts on a family, especially with children. They kept me going and also gave me advice to look at other alternatives if this restructuring of the mortgage did not pan out. I am truly grateful to them for both my house and my sanity. Thank you Scott and Lede.

We recently arranged, with our normal financial institution, a line of credit using our home to secure it. Closing was done at the Kirsh Law offices in Northeast, MD (Mr. Peter Kirsh, esq.). The office also performed the title search on our property. His staff kept us informed frequently with the current status as the closing date drew near. On the date and time of the closing, we were warmly greeted by the staff in the office and offered refreshments while we waited. The closing meeting was handled personally by Mr. Peter Kirsh. From the first moment of the meeting, Mr. Kirsh was friendly, respectful, and amenable to answering questions we had. The meeting did not proceed until Mr. Kirsh was assured that our questions and comments had been addressed and that we understood the information he provided. It was clear that Mr. Kirsh was quite knowledgeable in his area of law (real estate). The paperwork was in order and the one error (double entry) was easily mitigated on the spot. Mr. Kirsh offered several solutions and explained the ramifications of each. At the end of the meeting, we expressed a time constraint problem for us. Mr. Kirsh was able to resolve the issue by working directly with our financial institution. In all the years of our arranging mortgages and loans, Mr. Kirsh was, far and away, the most professional, personable, respectful, and knowledgeable attorney we have ever worked with. We were very impressed by his staff and himself, appearance of the offices, and the preparation for our meeting. Without doubt, we will definitely seek the services of his office as needs arise. Likewise, we encourage others to seek out his expertise and skills in real estate law. You will extremely pleased.

I worked with Marshall Long over a decade on a variety of legal, financial, and real estate projects. He was absolutely beyond reproach and a dedicated professional who never let me down. Mr DeMeo has the utmost reputation. He was attentive to our needs and was there at every turn. When we thought we had lost our home for good, Mr DeMeo stepped in and took the case without a second thought, even though, at the time, the situation seemed hopeless. We ended up in court fighting a huge bank and Mr DeMeo won our case. He is extremely thorough and knows the law inside and out...if he doesn't know an answer immediately, he seeks out the information quickly and decissively. He is punctual and is always respectful and soft spoken. If you need an attorney , I would highly recommend Mr DeMeo.

Attorney Rosemary Keffler is confident and self assured and, yet, has an easy mannerism that makes communicating with her effective and pleasant. She is able to break down even the most complex legal matters into everyday language for lay persons (her clients). As one of her clients, she has never turned me away (even when I have a minor question); and, from the first time we met, she has treated me as though I was her most important client and that we had known each other for 20 years. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a "real" attorney with ethics and integrity.

Susan helped us with a commercial property deal. She explained every step and why each step had to be done. She helped us when we were dealing with the bank and the paperwork for the financing. She made sure that all the due diligence was preformed and all issues were resolved. She helped us review the phase one to make sure that we didn't get stuck with a environmental problem later down the road.

I'm surprised there are no reviews on this lawyer! He was a pleasure to do business with, very thorough, which I can appreciate. I tend to ask a lot of questions and he was patient in answering every last one. His retainer fee was very reasonable and he had the desired outcome within four days of receiving pay!! So glad I went with him, of all the attorney's I spoke with, he stuck out. He shared a game plan and discussed worst case scenarios and possible outcomes should he encounter them, thankfully just a scenario.

I have known Rick Sissman for many years but only last year did I have need of his services as my attorney. His work was outstanding in every respect and his efforts on our behalf were amazing! After much frustration and many false starts attemprting to represent myself, Rick took over the collection and managed handily to collect our large four figure and long outstanding debt with little or no hassle to me or my office. In every measure Rick Sissman is the go to lawyer in suburban DC/Maryland for recovery of large unpaid commercial debt. Trust me, Rick is the man!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
