I hired Mr. Mester to take on a negligence claim for my son. From the moment him and his associates (Maria and Colleen) took us on, we were treated probably better than family because Christian is extremely meticulous so I know he sacrificed a lot of his personal time to make sure every t and i was crossed and dotted. Honestly, there is no dollar amount to describe how thankful I am for every single one of them, their time, and their urgency to make sure my son's comfortability was prioritized. They will neverrrrr stop fighting for you. About a year after the case, Maria had sent not only gifts but a blanket that she handmade. That should explain how they work. It is personal to them. I was pregnant during part of the case and they made sure I was okay medically to perform certain tasks. They fought their behinds off for my family and because of that I didn't JUST hire them. Instead, these are the type of people who leave lasting impressions on your life. Because they made it personal to them, they are now personal to me. You just can't put a price on that kind of dedication.

I hired 2 attorneys prior to Bob that ruined things for me financially. Bob knew the law and was able to skillfully negotiate with the opposing attorney. He got exactly what I wanted out of my case, he did it quickly and saved me thousands. I highly recommend him.

Attorney Michael S. Woll represented me ably almost one year ago in a contract dispute with a landscaping contractor. Mr. Woll demonstrated an impressive degree of knowledge of contract law and of pertinent legal rules and procedures and he provided me with quality representation. My case was not large but Mike took it seriously; he mounted a winning defense of me which not only resulted in his winning the case in court but winning it with damages. I walked away not only having avoided being ripped off by the contractor but with an extra three thousand dollars in my pocket. From start to finish, I was impressed by Mike's knowledge, focus and professionalism and I appreciated the courtesy and respect with which he treated me as his client.

When I found myself facing a possible corrupt situation at work I was not sure what to do. After trying several law firms, Brain Markowitz was mentioned & I called him. He listened to my story, he asked me pertinent questions & he agreed to help. That was the beginning of years of hard work. Brian guided me through the long legal process with intelligence, humor & kindness. He always returned my calls promptly - day or night. He always made sure that I understood every part of the process. He graciously got to know a bit about me personally, noted my sense of humor & then usually ended every call with a laugh which always put me at ease. Brian was optimistic when I was ready to give up. He was patient no matter how many questions I had. He spoke with my wife about the potential troubles ahead & that helped our conversations at home about the project. I would recommend Brian to anyone that needs brilliant legal help. He understands how to successfully communicate about legal details. He thorougly prepared me for deposition & trial. Years after our settlement when we needed legal help again we called Brian for a referral & he helped us with that. My wife & I consider Brian to be our friend. We are happy to follow his career successes. We are eternally grateful to Brian & consider ourselves fortunate to know him. He restored our faith in the goodness of humanity.

He was the best - I am so grateful. I did not have a challenging case - it was a ridiculous nuisance complaint, but I had a lot of questions as this was new to me. He answered all completely and conscientiously let me know all the potential nuances which I could not have thought of to ask. Then there were a number of emails between us - more questions from me, asking about the many ways to present and phrase things. Again, his responses were both extremely informative and kind. And he was, always, extremely, timely and responsive - responses came in what seemed like immediately! I feel as though I got an education in the legal issues of my profession - now that is a great way to start out! He gave me factual information as well as was emotionally grounding and encouraging for me. I have run into such wonderful people as I have entered this healing and helping profession and Alan is one of them!

I had a horrible situation with a disbarred attorney who had represented me in some cases that had to be nonsuited. The attorney didn't tell me he'd been disbarred, he kept practicing. So, when I had the cases nonsuited by a new attorney, we were able to represent to the court that we had settled matters with all of our experts and consultants. Well that disbarred attorney lied to me about firing some medical experts, who later sued me and have tried to force me at great cost to violate a federal protective order through manipulating the arbitration process. A friend of mine knew of Eric and referred me. Eric has defended me, and my special needs daughter's trust, against this attack. Eric represented us in the Arbitration dispute and additional filings. It's been a stressful experience but during it all, Eric has been fair, professional, communicative, hard working, diligent, he was outstanding in arbitration - finding that these so called experts have lost their medical licenses in pretty much every state - and doing his best to give us fair and appropriate legal advice and representation. I have been so impressed with him, and with Offit Kurman. Eric is one of the best attorneys I've ever had to work with, and I've had to work with enough to tell anyone reading this post that he's one of the good guys and he's very good at what he does. I highly, highly recommend Eric Pelletier and the firm Offit Kurman. It's nice to finally be represented by an attorney with a sense of right and wrong who genuinely wants to defend someone who is a victim. I was very blessed to be referred to him.

My ex-employer and I have used Mr. Hobbs' services in my case since 2003. He has handled my H1B visa, my PERM process, at the end of which I got my Green Card and, finally, he has assisted me with travel permit. He is well informed, meticulous and willing to give every necessary explanation. He addressed the problems of my case and solved them. We did not hit any single snag in any of the processes he has assisted me with. I am very satisfied, will keep using his services (when needed) and have recommended him several times.

Cheryl went above and beyond to both represent my interests and negotiate a fair settlement. I had a complex case involving a chronically ill adult child and an ownership position in a business. She always made herself available and brought consistent insight, compassion and professionalism to her work. I believe she is a rare find--I never felt like a number despite the fact that she was handling many other cases simultaneously. Cheryl really cares about her clients and made a difficult process more bearable through her kindness and creativity. I would recommend her to anyone without reservation.

Gail is a consummate professional and ably represented me throughout my divorce. My case was complicated and drawn out and I felt that her counsel was always very pragmatic and her judgement of how things would play out was dead on. Her fees are reasonable and she is very easy to work with. I would highly recommend her.

My roomate and I were having trouble with a landlord that was constantly absent and neglecting the property we were living in. We experienced a number of issues including being left without heat, mice infestation, windows that didn't close, and improper front door security. Gabe helped us to understand what our rights were and walked us through every step of getting a city inspector to look at the property, filing to open and escrow account with the city, taking our landlord to court, and following up until all of the repairs were completed and we had closed our case with the courts. He made himself available to meet with us at our convenience, in person, on the phone, or via email. He kept all of our paperwork in order and made sure we got extra copies of everything for our records, and then on the days we were in court he showed up early and talked us through what was going to happen (and even picked us up a few times!) Once inside he was cool, collected, and professional, and made the whole process quick, painless, and informative. Overall a great experience. Hoping I won't have a reason to, but Gabe will be the first person I call if I need help again.

Highly recommend. Suzy was recommended to us by a well-regarded attorney in another state. She aided us in a probate case during Covid with an ancillary estate. She effectively outlined the probate costs and process during a video conference call. She outlined the specifics of trust/estate assets vs non-estate assets and the tax implications. She also managed costs by having some work managed by one of her colleagues. Based on our positive experience, we hired her firm again to draw up our own estate documents.

Elliot is very thorough with your present case, and checks in on past cases to help as fully as he can. He kept my interests at the front of the case rather than his own like so many others do. He knows the court system and what is best to do, based on his experience and your input. He keeps your input to himself unless you agree or decide it would help the case. You can relax when talking to him, he only wants what is best for your case. Very satisfied with Elliot as my defense.

Jeremy Henderson was recommended to me by a friend. I was a little uncertain at first about his ability to handle my case (a very complex situation that I had completely messed up by trying to handle it myself) because he hadn't been practicing very long, but he immediately proved his competency. What I needed was a peacemaker and Jeremy fit the bill perfectly. He worked very hard trying to resolve my situation without conflict and still stood his ground firmly without backing down. When it became obvious that my case was going to court, Mr. Henderson proved to be a warrior, as well. He was very thorough and kept me informed about everything. And, unlike most lawyers I have used in the past, he explained everything so that I could clearly understand. When a legal decision needed to be made, we made it together. He tried very hard to get to know me personally and understand what my objectives were and showed me ways I could help myself. I tried to handle my own case because I had been badly burned by so many attorneys in the past and I just didn't trust lawyers. But .I can honestly say that I completely trust Mr. Henderson. He has proven himself to be competent, honest and trustworthy. I will continue to use his services whenever I need a legal warrior. I highly recommend Jeremy Henderson.

DON'T HIRE ANYONE ELSE! Roanne has been my lawyer for the last 3 years and has been incredible! My divorce was uncontested and finalized within 6 months of filing however, because my ex was abusive, we have had a very messy custody battle complete with social services reviews, custody evaluations, protective orders, and criminal trials. Roanne has been there every step of the way. She is very easy to get into contact with, responds quickly, always returns phone calls within hours, no mater if the office is open or not. She goes through each detail of the case with a fine-toothed comb, collecting/requesting whatever necessary evidence is needed. She has been ahead of the game through my entire divorce/custody battle; filing motions and requests before my ex does and preventing them from blindsiding us. When we file, she has always thoroughly explained what may happen (how the ex's lawyer may respond/file) in response to the filings, and she has been right EVERY time. She is by far the most moral and ethical person I've ever met. When my ex hurt my children and was criminaly charged, she admitted to me that she was not equipped to handle the child abuse portion of the case and helped me to find a lawyer that could. She and the child abuse lawyer currently work together on our custudy case. I have the upmost respect for Roanne because of that. Instead of exploiting the opportunity to collect more money, she admitted she was ill-equipped for that portion (without being asked) and then went above and beyond in helping me find another lawyer to help. Due to her honesty, my children are now safe and doing well. She is extremely knowledgable in family law/custduy/divorce and always realistic. She gives me the facts and never inflates our chances of winning. Roanne will often tell me "Our chances are good, but anything can happen". She has repeatedly told me she'll never promise we'll win because of that. That being said, Roanne has moved mountains to ensure the safety of my children and continues to do so. I have recommended several friends who are in custody battles or are facing divorce to her. They are all equally pleased. Additionally, she is afforadble (I tell her she doesn't charge enough) and easy to work with on a payment plan. I can not speak highly enough of Roanne. She is genuinely a great lawyer, and a great person. Hire her.

Michael W. Moore is a very professional attorney. He had to deal with not one, but two simultaneous, criminal cases (cross charges). He also had to deal with a prosecuting attorney who was determined to go to trial. In addition, he had to deal with another defense attorney who was very loud (to put it nicely). Through all of these obstacles, he came through for us with flying colors. Shouting out, job well done to Mr. Moore! Thank you. I hope that I never find myself in need of Mr. Moore's services, however, if life throws me another curve ball, I would definitely call on Mr. Moore to represent me again. Thank you Mr. Moore!!!! :-)

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
