Mr. Whitman defended my 22yrs. old son in a robbery assault case. My son's plea was not guilty. Mr. Whitman was on top of everything through out the three day jury trial. He did an excellence job of cross examinations of all witinesses with his mild-manner approach. He gave a brillant closing agruement . It was like watching an episode of "Law and Order". Because of the legal skills of this attorney the jury unanimous found my son not guilty. Mr. Whitman kept us throughly informed, is very trustworthy, responsive to all call and e-mails and obviously knowledgable regarding the law. I would recommend him without any reservation.

Robin was recommended to me by two attorney friends when I was going through my divorce. He was terrific -- easy to get in touch with, very willing to work with my schedule (I have three young children and a full-time job) and extremely knowledgeable. He doesn't come across as a "pitbull type," but he knows his stuff and was great at making sure I got what I wanted and needed to care for myself and my kids. I was extremely pleased with my settlement, and I feel like it was due to his guidance.

Rebecca is a wonderful and caring lawyer. I hired her to help me with my divorce, and I couldn't have been happier with my decision. She helped me every step of the way, and I couldn't have done it without her. Not only was she my lawyer she was my friend and I could tell her everything. I can't thank her enough for all her help.

Mr.Fanto helped me with a situation in Taylor. I did message him after that to ask for some advice. I worked for Taylor schools as a crossing guard for ten years never missed a day never no problems. I Loved my job and helping the children but for some reason even though my case was dismissed I still haven't gotten my job back. And I was wondering what advice he would have but never got a reply. When he was my lawyer in Taylor he was great so just felt comfortable asking for advice

I have worked with David for many years. He is extremely professional, ethical and knowledgeable of the law. He has always gotten the best possible results, and often under very difficult circumstances. The disciplinary action mentioned on this website was the result of irresponsible behavior by one of his former clients, not by David himself. In his fervent attempts to protect his client, David was unfortunately drawn into a personal dispute between the client and some of the client's irrational family members who unjustly blamed David for the client's irresponsible behavior. The disciplinary action noted here was completely unwarranted, and I would hire David any day without hesitation.

Mr Salyers is a very kind considerate lawyer I needed an attorney and he was there immediately. My son was going overseas in 1 day and we needed some legal assistance, the JAG attorney on base was not available and Mr Salyers offered his assistant, being a military man himself he understood the need for legal assistant in this situation. My son was deploying to Korea for a year. I could not ask for a more pleasant and understanding attorney in my time of need. I was already so upset with my son leaving and now this. Mr Salyers did not even know me or my son but took us in and did the paperwork that very day. Along with some very comforting words. I felt so much better after leaving his office, that's all I could do is thank God there are still special people like Mr Salyers around !

Attorney hired to design and implement complex business-contract transaction (corporate acquisition valued in excess of $100 Million Dollars). Project took 4 months and Mr. Kanter worked with one of the largest firms in the country representing the acquiring entity (we were the company being acquired). Transaction concluded flawlessly with both sides exceptionally pleased that all problems were worked out professionally, cost effectively and quickly.

Mr. Kostin has been our attorney for the last few years and worth every penny we paid him. He is honest and straight forward, always led us in the right direction. We fought a grueling custody case and his expertise won our case. He is a real human being, not a cold, unfeeling lawyer. I wish nothing but success for this gentleman.

She is a absolute powerhouse! When it comes to family court I would never recommend anyone else but Mary right here! It was a tough case I know my ex was good at lying so I was scared going into the process right away with that fact, there were so many unknowns but as soon as I had my consult I immediately felt at ease and knew she was the lawyer for my case. She is so helpful, it didn’t matter how many questions we had she had answers whenever we needed them and at whatever time in the divorce process. She was also very emotionally supportive and invested which made the process so much easier even at times that were so hard I wanted to rip my hair out. It was a great feeling to know and feel like I was 100 percent supported in this way and like she had my back no matter what, i felt it beyond more than just the fact I was one of many clients. She helped win the case and even at times I felt like nothing was going right she would put me at ease and made whatever I wanted to happen possible, with that being said she never just told me what I wanted to hear she was very straight forward and knowledgeable to where I always felt better after I would talk to her that things would be ok, and they always were. There really isn’t enough that could be said about these Mary, I would highly recommend her to anyone out there. She helped me in so many ways through this process and were so professional, knowledgeable, friendly and caring with my daughters best interest at heart which was just hands down amazing!

I was referred to Mark by Brian Dailey. He did a great job with my case getting 2/3 dropped and the other reduced. He met with the district attorney and the officer who was at the scene and came back with a very amicable deal. I would recommend Mark and the firm to anyone. I just noticed he's listed here as real estate attorney but he handled my traffic issue better than could be expected and saved a bunch of money even after there fee.

I have also been on the defendant side of the table with Richard involved. He still is the same way. He knows the law, But will fight for you to get the best deal. A Very calm but forceful Attouny. Stacie and Lana are so very professional and caring. They helped us through probate court and they helped ease a lot of frustrations and worry as we were also mourning the passing of our loved one. They did almost everything long distance and did it without any complications. They really care about their clients and they're very personable and I felt so comfortable with them. Choosing our attorneys was a huge first step and scary too but anytime we had questions or concerns they were right there guiding us through the process and comforting us. We very highly recommended Escamilia and Salisbury. These ladies made this last year go a lot smoother than I had anticipated and as happy as I am that probate is finally over, I will miss them. Their kindness, generosity and their support. Thank you again Stacie and Lana!!!!

Racine took my case when nobody else would. All the other lawyers said there wouldnt be enough money in it to be worth their time. I know she had other cases and also did some pro bono work, but when it came time for her attention to my case and trial, she was so focused. The jury heard and understood everything she had, and even thgough I didn't have medical bills or broken bones or anything, they came back in my favor because the cops treated me wrong. She believed in me, and so did the jury. The case took three years, but she never gave up on me.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
