The county attorney's office is a joke! Disorganized, uncooperative, dishonest, unprofessional, and complete disregard for due process! Withholding evidence in cases, questionable practices in obtaining arrest warrants, etc. As a professional watching, this happen, it's unbelievable! This agency needs to be audited/investigated ASAP from the bottom to the top! No integrity.

Has no regard for basic human decency. Didn't return phone calls or e-mails in a timely manner. Let me wander about my case and didn't do a thing to help resolve my issue. Made idle threats with no basis when I promised complaints to the state against him. Stay away from this man for legal services, you will be sorry. 1-star rating is way too high for this guy.

He never returned phone calls or emails, let my case drag on for three years, then tried to do all the work on the day of the court hearing. Completely disorganized and unprofessional. We had three good witnesses that saw this thief rob my family, yet Thomas Anderson never even called them up as witnesses. So when the Defendants lied and said they did not take our stuff, there were no character witnesses to tell the Judge they were lying. Awful man and attorney.

I didn't read the reviews first. I was overwhelmed when I got his letter in the mail soliciting me and signed with him without investigation. When I went to his office for the first and only time, he was in flannel pajama pants (red flag). After signing that contract it all went downhill. He is unprofessional and will NOT talk to you and if he has to, he is irritated. His paralegal would contact me via text only and if you wanted to talk...good luck! He will add more stress to your already stressful situation and charges more than more reputable attorneys. Never forget you can fire attorneys, which is what I did with him and got good representation. My new attorney went over things Antonio NEVER did...PLEASE BEWARE!!!

Because Tony did not deem it necessary to be early (nor on time for that matter) for a simple protection order hearing, the judge made the decision to continue the PO, and now I can't even see my son nor be with him for his first birthday, all because his legal opinion thinks it's ok to be late to trial

I hired Antonio (Tony) Vandenbosch for my divorce/child custody case. During the consultation he seemed nice, professional, and i got the impression he would be the type of lawyer who would fight for his client. Unfortunately, it couldn't be further from the truth. He had very poor communication with me throughout the process. He does not respond to phone call or emails. In order to speak with him i had to contact his paralegal to schedule a call a week in advance. He was never available to talk on the spot. He was always with a client or in a meeting. I found this to be unacceptable for an attorney-client relationship. I did not receive a monthly itemized bill from him, which you're supposed to get if you have a good attorney. Yet, he had me making monthly payments and i had no idea what services i was being billed for. To top it off, the few times I spoke to him over the phone he was arrogant and condescending.d He was very rude and unprofessional. Please save your hard earned money and time and go to a lawyer who will work with you

Huge waste of time on a simple case! DO NOT HIRE THIS OFFICE! she has been reprimanded by the bar association in the past for wrongful handling of cases and got probation steer clear!

In the courtroom she stumbled and couldn’t come up with a strong question for the life of her. She kept asking g the judge about what exhibit what was. Embarrassing! I think there should be a way to get your money back. Reduculous

Richard Glidden is no longer serving as attorney for the settlement of our family estate. That was a decision made after suffering great frustration as a result of him being unavailable, unresponsive, and negligent in meeting filing deadlines. We made multiple contacts requesting meetings and any form of conversation. He would not respond. He has acted in a negligent and unprofessional manner and I would highly recommend that you do not hire him as your attorney.

We hired Richard Glidden to perform our estate planning. My father passed away without a Will so we had to go through Probate. Mr. Glidden was difficult to get a hold of, he didn't call back after multiple messages were left. During a time of confusion like this, it is important to hire someone who can answer questions and set your mind at ease. He did none of this. He has made the process even more difficult and has caused a lot of unnecessary stress on our family. I would highly recommend choosing a different lawyer in which to conduct business with.

A few weeks later, message left. A few weeks later, message left. NO RESPONSE WHAT SO EVER. Very rude considered we contacted him due to sensitive family materials.

She was very blunt and to the point, not a bad thing. But the tone of her voice (telephone consult due to virus) was not good. She had reviewed the papers I had dropped off, but said that there was no case and refused point blank. She also said there was no way case would go anywhere, even though new diagnoses and doctors notes indicated that medical issues very much impacted daily activities and would interfere with daily life. She didnt even want to get and review new doctors notes, or even help. I would not recommend her if you are going for SSDI/SSI, as it seems unless there is very little work to do, she will not help or take the case!!

Went to him for a simple name change. We talked about it, he wrote everything down, and the next work day I payed his office $350.00 for the change. Three weeks later I called up to see what had been done. He got back to me and told me he hadn't done anything yet because we had not talked about the price, even though we had and I had paid for it in full.

Jesse was referred by a family friend. Cordial, but not terribly knowledgeable on what is purportedly his area of expertise, taxes. I was forewarned to some extent when he used the verbiage "I've been told it may take a month and a half" for the IRS to respond to my delinquent returns. (10 months later, nothing) I subsequently retained Howard Kaplan, who resolved my issue with a 45 minute phone call and $300. In my opinion Jesse wasn't/ isn't malicious, he simply lacks the requisite subject knowledge to effectively provide counsel.

John Duggar is the most arrogant person I’ve ever met in my life. Displays a sense of contempt that is so off-putting I couldn’t even get through an initial visit. 1. We had heard good things about this firm, but overall our experience with Mr. Waite was very disappointing. 2. The firm was inconsistent on returning calls and emails. Other law firms we have worked with were more responsive and available, quicker to answer questions, and the fees were lower. There seemed to be a lack of attention to our case. One small examples is that Mr. Waite was an hour late to our mediation. No explanation was provided. 3. When we had questions about billing, Mr. Waite charged us for the time to discuss the bill which we understand is not the norm. A discount that was offered during this call was never applied and emails about it went unanswered. 4. Our lawyer had scheduled surgery on the same week of crucial depositions and did not inform us that he was not going to be available. Less than 48 hours prior to the depositions starting, an assistant informed us that another lawyer was coming. This replacement was unfamiliar with our case. It was extremely stressful and disappointing. We felt the depositions and ultimately our case were severely compromised. 5. After we approved of an initial settlement offer and indicated we wanted to take it, Mr. Waite said he wanted to rewrite the entire document. We said we did not want him to do that and asked again to please answer our (simple) questions which he did not. 6. Mr. Waite filed to be removed from our case during the final stages of our settlement agreement but never told us. He informed the opposing council and our co-plaintiff but did not inform us that he was stepping down as our lawyer. This was both unprofessional and discourteous and caused delays and more stress.

Hired Meagan for my divorce and while she wow’d me in the interview and had me convinced she would fight for my kids and I, what followed was anything but the level of service I anticipated receiving. She conducted the entire process via email (only showing up for me once in court) and was put off by questions and my need for additional information to ensure I understood everything. She made the negotiation process very confusing and was not consistent, making me question if I was loosing my mind. Even after thumbing through emails to screenshot her numbers and her words, it didn’t matter, she always had a rebuttal to justify things even though my gut knew they were off. She was pushy. She made me feel like another paycheck for her and not a person. She THREATENED on a few occasions to drop me if I didn’t agree to the terms presented to me and never even considered going to trial on my behalf. She also completely over charges for her services aka representation from behind the keyboard and will rob you blind of any monies you may stand to rightly receive. Her business practice of threatening her clients during such a difficult time in life is shameful. Do not recommend.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
