Amita Peltz was the perfect choice to handle my will and other related legal documents. She was thorough and very helpful with my various questions. I have also used Sarah Bowman for real estate closings. She has always been the one that dug deep for areas that many closing attorneys might have missed or bypassed. Worley & Peltz are my go-to attorneys. You owe it to yourself for them to be yours as well.

I have been a client of Worley & Peltz for several years and I am always extremely satisfied with their expertise. Amita drew up my last will and I know that she gave me great advice when I didn't even know what I wanted to do. She is so very patient and understanding. Jason has worked with me on commercial real estate and that has been a wonderful experience, as well.

I had my will and trust redone in 2021 with Chris Craig. This experience was adequate. But when I wanted to make some fairly basic changes (changing beneficiaries) to the will/trust this year in 2024, Chris wanted to charge me more than the initial set up of my will and trust (thousands of dollars to make edits to the will and trust that would have taken me an hour if only it was legal for me to edit the documents in Word). When I questioned such exorbitant charges for such simple revisions he fired me as a client. Now I'm stuck with a will/trust that does not reflect my wishes. I'm shopping for a new attorney who I can trust not to extort me for simple changes.

Unfortunately I did not get to meet Chris…I was to have a meeting via zoom with an elderly friend that was in dire need of a Will. We were to meet Chris to discuss our needs. However, the form I had been emailed was asking for intense info that would have taken me several days to obtain. To paraphrase, I obviously was not refunded 250.00 but didn’t get to have consultation either. Most definitely was not impressed with Paralegal…very defensive attitude!

Over the past 10 months Mike Greer and the wonderful supportive staff at his office have been such a blessing. After my auto accident, Mike took the time to speak with me on several occasions to listen and understood my situation. He was promptly responsive when I had questions or needed additional guidance. He and his staff dealt with all the insurance details and kept me informed. As a result, we were able to reach a settlement that is such a blessing. I highly recommend Mike Greer to anyone needing attorney services.

I met with Wiley Westall to update my Will. He was really very nice and took his time going through all of the specific details. A week later I met with him again to finalize. I was very impressed with his work. We went over the entire Will and he took the time to go over and explain each and every paragraph. Something the last attorney who updated, didn’t bother to do. We also went over the Healthcare Power of Attorney and discussed at length each and every line. Again, never had that from others. I just wish that I had found him a few years ago! I highly recommend Wiley. Great, compassionate, intelligent, fair minded guy.

This law office is completely unequipped to handle modern employment law cases. The attorney was shockingly uneducated on clear-cut workplace retaliation, ADA violations, HIPAA privacy breaches, and discrimination law. Instead of recognizing textbook legal violations, he was dismissive, condescending, and gaslighting—forcing me to explain basic legal concepts, only to victim shame me for staying in a job where I was financially and medically trapped. Rather than advocating for employee rights, he made me justify my own case, despite having prepared over 500 pages of documentation and proof of clear violations, retaliation, and systemic discrimination—questioning clear ADA noncompliance and disability discrimination. I even had to explicitly explain how multiple diagnoses and conditions are legally protected, and he still failed to recognize obvious retaliation. He clearly does not understand modern workplace environments or employment law beyond the most basic level. On top of that, I was financially and physically displaced due to a Hurricane Helene, another concept that didn’t warrant even the slightest bit of compassion or understanding from him. I came in for a consultation prepared to pay $400 for solid legal advice but ended up wasting my time repeating myself, trying to explain the nature of modern remote work environments, cloud computing, and corporate tech consulting. He should have paid me for educating him on these concepts—even though I doubt he remembered anything that was discussed after I left the room. If you are looking for a lawyer who is compassionate, understands nuance, and is actually familiar with employment law from this century, look elsewhere. You should not have to repeat yourself multiple times, be further gaslit, or feel more exhausted after a legal consultation than you did before it. The lack of competence extends beyond legal matters. If you expect a law office that at least knows how to update their own Google business listing, provide clear office directions, or even put up a sign so clients can find them, you’ll be disappointed there too. If they can’t even manage basic business operations, how can they be trusted with a complex legal case? Do not waste your time.

Attorney Doug Edward’s has been such a blessing! He’s thorough, honest, understanding, and he truly has your best interest in mind! A lot of attorneys are in it for the money but with Doug he actually cares about the outcome and the long term impacts on one’s life! He will explore every avenue making sure the best route is being taken but most importantly he sees and acknowledges the humanness of his clients! He will meet you where you are and once a common goal is established he will make sure it’s met! Doug is truly a top tier attorney! He goes 10 toes for his clients and as long as you’re open and honest with him he’ll go to bat for you! He will forever be my go to for legal counsel! Lord forbid I ever need it but I know that if I do I’m In good hands! He’s literally the Allstate of attorneys! 10/10 highly recommended!!

Nice person. However, fails to respond to emails, calls to the hired office service are frequently unanswered, fails to advise of any updates in case. (Appears to lack appropriate office support staff). Due to multiple informational mistakes, it has been necessary to preview her work prior to documents being forwarded. According to the contract I signed with her, I have never received even one invoice as promised. I do not feel confident given her disorganization, high fees, or her lack of accomplishment/interest with my case. I regret hiring her and do not recommend this attorney.

I retained the services of Jim Siemens for my divorce and was elated when I discovered his associate Ana M. Prendergast specializes in Geriatric Law and Estate Planning. Geriatric Attorneys are inordinately difficult to find. Ana eased the exhaustion and frustration I was experiencing in being the Healthcare and Durable POA for an overwhelming, elderly parent. Ana improved the quality of my life and my elderly parent’s life by synthesizing empathy, critical thinking and uncanny listening skills with efficiency, resulting in both short and long-term actionable results. Ana M. Prendergast is also my Estate Attorney and conducts this with expediency. Often during divorce we are unable to focus on “next steps” and Ana helped me realize the importance of estate planning, especially as a single mother. I referred her to other friends who were equally satisfied with her gift in channeling family needs into well-conceived, solid estate planning. A quantitative assessment of 5 stars does not do Ana justice; numerically rating her professional and personal qualities is impossible for me because she exceeded and continues to exceed my expectations. Without reservation, I recommend Ana M. Prendergast and The Siemen’s Family Law Group for any family law related legal needs you may have. They are unquestionably the best family law practice in Asheville. Caroline Asheville, North Carolina

The last three years of my life have been the worst I've ever experienced. My mom died of cancer, a month later my wife left me and my brother was murdered all within under a year. I fell in a dark deep depression which I almost didn't make it out of and at the time of my depression my house got foreclosed on. I got a letter in the mail saying I needed a lawyer to try to get back some of the funds for the house. I reached out to Mr. Bailey for guidance. He stepped out of his comfort zone, which is criminal defense to help me get my life back. He kept great communication and helped me understand the process. Even during one of the worst hurricanes we've ever seen here in our mountains he kept communication with me while having no electricity, water or cell service at his residence. Anytime I met with him at his office I felt like family and I felt like the help I was getting was extremely sincere. It's scary out there And it's hard to give your trust but I trusted him like I've known him for 20 years. Mr. Bailey helped me get my life back on track. Which in turn will help me spend more valuable time with my children, One of the most important things you can never get back and for that I am forever grateful!! In closing I want to let everybody know that I highly recommend them and their help in just about anything you're dealing with in life. God bless and God speed🤘 WNC Strong💪

The team generally responded quickly to emails. I incurred late payment penalties (one month for one account, two months for the other) due to not being provided accurate payment projections despite providing all information to the firm in February. Ultimately, the filing felt unnecessarily stressful and rushed. Consultation with other firms to review those filings revealed errors and omissions which will require filing amended returns.

We had a trust prepared in 2010 by a law firm in Virginia. When we recently moved to North Carolina, we knew we needed to update our trust to conform with North Carolina law. The trust that was originally prepared for us contained a great deal of boiler plate trust language and was nearly 100 pages. While it achieved our basic requirements, it was confusing with some language that didn't really apply to us or fit our circumstances. After reviewing our trust and listening to how we wanted our estate handled, BJ suggested doing a restatement of trust rather than simply amending our existing trust, which would have made our original trust even more confusing. We took BJs advice and he produced a restatement of trust that achieved all of our goals and requirements and did that in a document that was clear and concise; with all of this accomplished in a document one third the length of our original trust. We are extremely pleased with the BJ's diligence and professionalism. He listened and understood what we wanted and our trust reflects that. We strong recommend retaining BJ for your estate planning. We are confident you will be as pleased as we are.

We were referred to the law firm by my MBA law professor. We did not know BJ at all, but I will say he was excellent. Everyone should have a state specific will prepared. BJ Killgore is the attorney you need to get this done.

Mr Kilgore made the whole process less confusing, explained each topic thoroughly and helped me understand my choices. Having never been in any sort of trouble in my life, I found myself suffering severe anxiety and devastation over a DWI. Andy is so compassionate, very professional, and highly effective. His office staff is excellent and as kind as he is. All of my calls were responded to quickly and questions answered thoroughly. I am very grateful to have had them through this painful and confusing process.

What began with high expectations based on referral by another attorney resulted in disappointment in virtually all areas of our relationship ... from communication to professional judgment in the appeal process. Admittedly, our case was extremely complicated but we believe we lost our appeal due in large part to the failures of Mr. Banzhoff to properly identify errors that had occurred. Though based on his other reviews I wonder if perhaps our experience was an exception, I am unfortunately unable to recommend him to others in need of appellate services.

Andy killed it. Met with him regarding a business matter that may have led to what would be criminal conduct if I did not have a consultation with Mr. Banzhoff. I was saved not only the trouble of entering what was a questionable practice, but spared the possibility of many more legal bills in the future, had it been deemed illegal. Whilst I'm sure he would a fine job defending me, putting my file away before and criminal possibility was the best option. As others have said - very forthcoming guy, and will not mince words. Exactly what you want out of someone you can pay for advice. There are 2 people in your life that are not "friends" that should always have your back. Your doctor and your attorney. Mr. Banzhoff is, I strongly believe, someone you can trust to have your back when the rubber meets the road.

Attorney Ile Adaramola served as my Ancillary Estate Attorney and it was truly a pleasure working with her -- She delivered what she promised and exceeded my expectations! I live out of state and was very concerned about engaging an out-of-state lawyer, especially since I did not have a personal referral. I found Attorney Ile online and I’m very pleased with my selection – she completed my estate work in record time! She was very transparent regarding her fees and shared the fees break-down with me prior to retaining her. During our initial consultation, she educated me on the process and timeline. And when I hired her, she executed as advised. She is very efficient and handled my estate excellently, and I highly recommend her and her service!

We are an investment group in NC and hired Ms. Adaramola to find us distressed properties to purchase. Ms. Adaramola, along with Ms. Lisa Roberts-Allen, found us a number of properties for significantly below market value. We couldn’t buy them fast enough. After evicting the previous owners, who claimed the foreclosure was fraudulent ( Ms Roberts-Allen showed that they were legal foreclosures because she notarized all of them). We made so much profit off the sales of the properties that are tax liability due to enormous capital gains almost made us have to sell our 4 Wake boats. Do not hire this attorney unless you want a high tax bill.

The firm was hired to review and revise as necessary my husband's will and my will. I also wanted advice and information on my existing Testamentary Trust, as Trustee. As I am getting older I wanted to understand more completely what my will would set in motion at my death and how my trust could be terminated at my death. We now have new updated wills and mine includes instructions regarding my trust. I am comfortable that my wishes will be followed. Thank you, Ile, it was a pleasure working with you! If you want your questions answered promptly and completely in a relaxing atmosphere this is the lawyer's office for you.

What a disgusting human this man is. First NEVER hire an attorney that does EVERY type of law Criminal, Civil and Family. They call this kind of attorney a "Bill Mill" He likes to support abusive men against women and goes for the jugualar even in very sensitive situations. He deliberately misgenders trans people including children. He is chauvinist and deliberately uses womens former married names even after his clients have "reliquished" them, and after legal name changes have been made.Honestly I wish I could put on gloves in a ring with this little man, and show him what abuse looks like. 😎

If you are looking for a family law attorney I couldn't recommend anyone more than Michael Drye. He is very knowledgeable, trustworthy, and shows an amazing amount of empathy for an already emotionally charged situation. He helped me navigate through my divorce legally, but was so patient with me as I sorted through the emotions that inevitably come up in that sort of case. He knows the legal system and gave me sound advice as we went through the divorce process. I would highly recommend Michael Drye!

I had heard about the excellent reputation of this firm and contacted Holly Fairbairn to make an inquiry. The firm offers a complimentary 15-minute consultation and attorney Holly Fairbairn called me back. In the time that we spoke, it became highly evident to me that she is an excellent listener with expertise in her area of specialization. The practice of law is extremely complex and when problems arise, people need not only someone with experience who is highly knowledgeable but also someone who will put passion into a case. I would highly recommend her.

Holly is amazing! Holly and Heather go beyond the call of duty. The Judge told me they turned in over 1000 pages on behalf. Good luck finding another attorney that tries as hard as they do. She is extremely nice and gave me helpful information on matters to help me with my other problems that I have. Wish I could give more stars. If you want a team that will fight for you this is the group to pick. Will recommend to anyone. Thank you very much for everything!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
