Hands down the best firm I found! Their staff was friendly, helpful, reassuring, and willing to take the time to listen showing that they truly care about their clients. Mr. Thaxton himself proved to be skilled, knowledgeable, and compassionate in his work. If I could I would give them a 10 star rating.

Mrs. Grant is a professional with high standards, moral conduct, and a person of integrity. With every experience I had with her, whether verbal or written, I was thoroughly satisfied with the manner in which she shared information. I was amazed at Mrs. Grant’s ability to retain volumes of legal research which were used strategically, allowing me to receive the most favorable outcome possible in my case. I would not hesitate to enlist Mrs. Grant’s services in the future and would consider it an honor to have her represent me.

Bengtson has told me several times that his goals with clients are to treat us in such a way that we come back to him and refer people to him. He has delivered on that for me. He got a very crappy injury case of mine in a package deal from the attorney I'd originally hired to represent me in it several years ago. That one finally settled and had nothing in it for me. Low policy limits and ongoing pain from it because it was a side hit, I didn't know what I was doing and took forever to get treated. Total mess. Bengtson was nice about it, and I asked what to do if I got into another accident (really when, because I drive a lot). I got into another accident. This one had a semi that caused it. I called a couple of other lawyers to shop around, settled on him because I'd always been able to get questions answered by his paralegal. When I came in for the initial consultation he gave me a $3000 check from the case with no money it it. He'd promised to give me something out of it when it was being mediated, but basic arithmetic said I was getting zero so I hadn't bothered to check back. He DOES NOT use an answering service! So if someone picks up they actually work in the same office (there's a paralegal who works for another lawyer &/or a guy who works reception who pick up the phone occasionally) The semi truck case settled recently and that was a life changing check for me. (Partly because I'd wisely let all needy @$$h03$ exit my life without letting them know I was getting anything good out of the accident) But I haven't had to work since it showed up. And I bought my own place with it too. It was near the bottom of what Bengtson said my case could bring in, but it was plenty so I was fine with it. He indicated we could definitely go to court if I wanted, and I think that did have a somewhat higher likely payout for me.

My experience with the Pope and Howard law firm was excellent. At the initial consultation with Marc, I was very comfortable with his abilities and his demeanor toward my case. It was a breath of fresh air from what I expected from a personal injury attorney. He was genuinely interested in how my health was after my accident, and was encouraging throughout the process. He was very forthcoming with all aspects of my particular case and what we should expect throughout the timeline and procedures. I was very content to just let him handle every detail and was confident in his ability to negotiate all aspects of a settlement. In the end, the settlement was more than we originally expected and I am very pleased and thankful that I chose Marc to represent me after my accident. The service I received, the communication of information, and the attention to all of the details of the case was exceptional. Thank you for a job well done.!

I believe it was through his experience and deep knowledge of the law that he was able to bring my case to a favorable close in a timely manner. I highly recommend Edward Piasta and am grateful for his integrity, support and expertise.

We thought our case was stagnant or dead. Tyler heard the details and within minutes he came up with a lead that our initial attorneys fail to see. Among many other things. Tyler represented Jones and Walden in shining colors, with excellent communication and diligence every step of the way. Although the process was longer than hoped, Tyler followed through and we are more than happy with the end results. Thanks again Tyler. Much respect sir.

Rick is amazing! It's not only his skill and acument that's impressive...it's his ability to be politely persistent that produce results. During the life of the case, I've never felt I was without representation. The best thing about Rick is that he communicates. He tells you more than you want to know sooner than you'd want to know it. His character has been stellar. I've gained a friend in knowing him and I'd HIGHLY recommend him to anyone!

Based on a strong recommendation from another attorney, I engaged Hal to help me collect an outstanding debt. Because of issues with the debtor, the matter extended over 2 years and involved getting a judgment, a consent and garnishments. Mainly because of Hal, I was able to recover 100% of my outstanding debt. I found Hal to be very knowledgeable and competent. He worked very efficiently and was very reasonable in his time estimates and billings. He promptly returned calls, and his communication was succinct and clear. Overall, Hal did an outstanding job, and I would highly recommend him.

Attorney Bailey, as part of the team working for the Cobb County Attorney General, was counsel of record prosecuting the case in which I was a plaintiff, having been scammed on a fraudulent internet listing to sell a collector car. Monies were paid and no car was delivered. Attorney Bailey successfully prosecuted the criminals, securing full restitution. I am deeply grateful for Attorney Bailey's stunning achievement and have learned a great deal from this experience: Know whom you buy from --in person, and make certain there is a physical object: if a car, check title information and drive it before offering to purchase. And if you fall into this kind of criminal case, turn to a successful prosecutor. Thank you profoundly, Attorney Bailey, for a job well done.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
