Called this attorneys office looking to have them do an owner financing contract for us. The lady that answered the phone was asking numerous questions that a lay person would not know unless you were well versed in the subject. I explained to her that's why we were calling for attorney assistance and this route was suggested by our realtor. She very much enjoyed talking down to me. I would not use this office from that interaction alone.

Sean McKee, Esq is everything you could want in a lawyer. He's professional, considerate, and he either answers or returns calls in a very timely manner. He understands that mistakes happen to everyone and if it involves anything to do with the law or courts he is your man.

Far and away THE WORST attorney in Bellingham. Not only was she rude and indignant, she could care less about you and your case. She’s only interested in money. And worse, here is an example of her extreme unprofessionalism: I followed each and every step she gave me for a Reply Declaration and even turned it in to her days before she asked for it back (in order for her to go over it and submit it to the courts for filing on my behalf) she not only did not file it, I had to learn about her NOT filing it by happenstance, and then when I confronted her about it asking why she didn’t file it and especially why she didn’t tell me that she didn’t file she claimed that she did it for “legal reasons.” That’s all she would tell me. DO NOT USE THIS ATTORNEY. You will regret it.

Kathryn Resnick was referred to me through the Senior Will Program with Law Advocates. I so appreciate her participation in this important service. The will she prepared was so comprehensive, included all the important details and her service, along with staff Sara, was just excellent. She was also very kind and welcoming, and appreciated the supportive way in which she and her staff conducted business. It's a relief to have a very good will in place and again, was so impressed with the quality of work and the professional and personal service she and her staff provides!

We found Kathryn and her staff extremely professional and committed to the highest standard of legal procedure. Kathryn has a profound knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations and how those domains apply to her client’s personal needs. She keeps herself and her staff updated with the ever changing strictures within the legal community. For us, she provided several services: an updating of our will, she’s helped provide clear understanding of our family trust, and she had a commitment to work with our financial advisers in order to give us greater confidence in our financial and legal concerns. Kathryn has an ability to put abstract and ambiguous legal jargon into basic layman’s terms. We were comfortable asking her questions and her answers were never returned in esoteric attorney type piffle. Through the years we have recommended her practice to several friends and they share our appreciation of her professionalism. We recommend her law practice with all enthusiasm. Coleen & Rob Cheesman

She is a competent attorney, but she told me so many times that she would do something that she never did. It was very frustrating, especially with the amount of money I was paying her. Examples are she would tell me she would get back to me within a couple days and she wouldn’t, she said she would look into many things for me which she never did. When going through a divorce you need an attorney who will do the things they say they are going to do when they say they are going to do them.

Had Bob represent me in a marriage dissolution proceedings. He demonstrated both compassion-at times- and ineptitude with a close focus on maximizing billing time. I discharged him after confronting him about not following the plan of service we worked on numerous times. His in-person explanation was related to some other personal considerations that precluded him from attending to my and my children's best intetests. I was appaled and the stress that resulted on my family was perfectly avoidable. Litigation fatigue precluded me from holding him accountable for his negligence. BOO on Bob, et al.

Robert and his team went above and beyond in our case. Their level of professionalism as well as proficiency far exceeded any other attorney I have worked with in the past - Full Stop. Robert himself listened with an empathic compassionate ear to our case. He then utilized his experience and expertise to guide us towards our intended result - while being cognizant of time and cost. I have the utmost respect for this firm - they are truly what exemplifies "integrity and diligence" a rarity within the legal profession. Noteworthy; the first attempt to resolve this case was not granted. Yet again, with compassion Robert calmly and clearly articulated our options for moving towards a resolution and our ultimate objective. Our decision going forward was not the easy route. Robert and his firm proceeded with tenacity in the direction we requested which was to represent us before the court. I believe Robert's concise skillful presence while litigating the case gave us the advantageous outcome we were seeking.

Do not go to TMAnderson for your legal problems. After paying a few thousand dollars for a representative in a case where I wasn’t able to make the court date, I was just met with stress and stupidity from the firm. After delaying my court date, I had randomly received a phone call alerting me that I have a mandatory court appearance the next morning, them being completely oblivious to the fact that I had already mentioned that I cannot make it due to living on the other side of the state. When I appeared via zoom call last minute, the judge on the case tore into Tom Dunn, my representative, for failing to provide any signed documents stating I approved of the zoom appearance, as well as failing to provide evidence of my completed traffic course of which I sent evidence to weeks in advance. After court, I wasn’t given any instruction to the process of paying the fines and was ignored by Elizabeth Fish and Tom Dunn when I sent countless emails asking about the payment process. Elizabeth Fish had a horrible attitude when she wasn’t ignoring my emails or phone calls, and I still haven’t heard anything from Tom Dunn. When requesting for some sort of reimbursement for their lack of effort, I was met with a email telling me that it wasn’t possible, and that basically my thousands of dollars had gone down the drain.

"A Nightmare of Inefficiency and Neglect: Avoid This Law Firm at All Costs" I recently had the unfortunate experience of engaging with Swanson Law Firm P.L.L.C., and I cannot express enough how disappointed I am with their abysmal communication and overall lackluster service. From start to finish, my interaction with this law firm was nothing short of a nightmare. The primary issue that plagued my entire engagement with Swanson Law Firm, was their complete disregard for effective communication. It seemed like getting a response from them was an insurmountable task. Emails went unanswered for days, and phone calls were met with endless voicemail loops. It felt as though my case was nothing more than an inconvenience to them. When I did manage to get through to someone, the lack of information provided was astonishing. It was as if the staff were intentionally vague and unhelpful. Basic queries about the progress of my case were met with generic responses that left me more confused than informed. It became evident that they were either unwilling or incapable of keeping their clients in the loop. The final straw was today when I called and was informed my attorney would not be back till next year!!

I called Robert as they carried my stuff out of the house. He took my case, put a stop to all of her lies, made her face reason, a miracle to say the least. My husband died May 11,2020,Had an open claim with Labor Industries Self-insured Claim.I have called my/this attorney unable to get through. Secretary says on a line, busy ect. Leave message to call me , never does. Received a letter from him January 10th that said they had received a portion of my husband's settlement. Said " Enclosed please find a check with the proceeds of that payment less full attorney fees plus $23 in miscellaneous. Nothing ENCLOSED ,NOTHING,I have called several times to talk with him..He is always with a client, and unable to speak with me according to the secretary. There was NO CHECK enclosed! That is the truth.I have not recieved anything. I try to call about the missing check. I have NO money, been waiting for help since my husband died. To recieve a letter from my attorney, that says enclosed please find a check with the proceeds...and NOTHING there, was very disheartening. No words to explain what I am going through. . Depending on and attorney that doesn't reach out to his client even after leaving a message. Letter stated self-injured employer has paid $30,7771.41 and I has the widow, have not recieved a dime...At this point in time I would probably think twice if asked about my attorney. The least he could do is return my calls, let me know what is going on...PAY THE GRIEVING WIDOW, SOME OF THE MONEY. I am appalled at his actions... I have not a clue what is going on, never hear from him ....Never takes my calls, has not answered my letters, did not pay me anything from my decease husbands proceeds he received..My letter said enclosed please find a check....Again NOTHING ENCLOSED...I HAVE RECIEVED NOTHING... To the point cannot pay house payment, taxes, nothing. Thank-you for letting me vent. The least he could do is accept my phone calls and explain...I don't care if it is shared public......Maybe that office will respond, or he will. please make it open to public

She took this case on from another attorney that was filled in October 2014 when she became ill. She took on the case she later stated she didn't even want to take this case on because she has had bad experiences with taking this attorneys cases before. How is that my problem? She took money and commited to the case. . It was a child support modification which then turned into a contempt of court case as well. She did not represent me effectively. She made statements to my Ex husband and didn't follow threw with what she said she was going to do. Hence my Ex husband was stringing her along. 9 months later she has gotten nothing accomplished and withdrew from my case. I felt and feel abandoned and unprotected by this attorney. She didn't come close to adequate representation. It was an awful experience and has caused more harm then good. She constantly spoke with my Ex husband. Having me write my own proposal to him. This just made him more agitated. She promised me just the week before due to high volume of cases that she was going to focus on this case more. Then she started telling me I should try to modify support with DSHS. What did I hire you for? Plus she kept changing directions and lost my W2 .... It took her 4 months to get my Ex husband's W2 in which she only got one year. Your supposed to get two. It was just awful and I'm so upset and she just made things worse. I'm devastated and this has caused a huge back lash on my Son who is a child of 17. And my self and my family. She not only didn't help me she totally dropped the ball. In her withdrawal her reasoning was false and did not make sense. My Ex thinks it's great! With this attorney who took the case over and now almost 2 years from when it was filled...It had gone on 9months with her...She accomplished nothing but more emotional pain to my self and my child It was the worst experience I have had with a lawyer. She bailed out right in She middle of my case..I asked her repeadly to go to court and file a contempt order against my X husband for unpaid child support. She refused but wanted to keep corresponding with my Ex husband dragging it out. I cannot express how disappointed I am.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
