This firm represented my former partner in a custody case. They repeatedly made basic errors - miscalculating support numbers and simply not understanding the application of law. Their errors significantly added to the conflict between myself and my former partner. I wished she would have had better representation - it would have saved everyone a great deal of heartache.

I am writing to express my gratitude and to commend Mike Goecke and Hunter Daley. They were both professional, compassionate, generous and more than competent. Mr. Goecke did an excellent job presenting our case in court; he was clear, confident and on point. He thought both deeply and creatively about the issues in our case. The depth of Mr. Daley’s knowledge and research was impressive. They worked very well as a team, and brought complementary skills to the problem. They both inspired confidence and gave us thoughtful advice for our legal decisions. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing legal assistance.

My recent experience working with Mr Hunter Daley and Mr Michael Goecke at The Lerch, Early, & Brewer Law Firm was excellent. Never having hired lawyers before, I didn’t know what to expect. From day one Mr Goecke and Mr Daley were very helpful. I got answers, I heard of numerous options, and I left with a feeling of scope; long and short term options were available. Arguments for my side of the case evolved as time went on and I found that very interesting. It’s not what I had expected, but it made perfect sense. In the court room, Daley and Goecke were a great team. I was impressed by how they both thought on their feet. In addition, obviously, they had to have a vast knowledge of the law, but they could express our side of the argument well enough that I could understand it (without a law degree). At the end of the case, after the Judge ruled in our favor, even he commended these lawyers for their understanding of the law and for the depth and clarity of their arguments.

Sara was amazing to work with. She always took the high road, and effectively navigated negotiations as easily as she represented in court. She was sensitive, an active listener, gave helpful advice, and was able to deal with emotions constructively. I contacted Jeremy Rachlin after learning an attorney had swindled my elderly mother shortly before her death and violated a dozen other laws. Unbeknownst to me, the attorney was a friend of Mr. Rachlin. Client Intake Sheets other details preceded a 180 degree change in demeanor and sudden doubt in the facts of my case, upon Mr. Rachlin's learning the name of the attorney. One understands if Mr. Rachlin did not want to sue a friend. To then reference my case as “threatening a colleague” and the stress the unlikelihood of finding representation against said attorney, lacked judgement. Apparent obstructive actions to prevent representation/protect his friend, seem to be ongoing. Recently, another firm admitted they were aware Jeremy Rachlin knew the attorney in question and had declined my case. Though squarely in their specialization, w/o consult & acknowledgement they had not reviewed case or documentation, they then stated they would not take my case. I had not spoken to Mr. Rachlin in over a year nor mentioned his name to anyone at the firm.

This office does not communicate with their clients. I had to call them to find out about what is going on with the case. There are far better options out there in the DMV area.

We met Joe in 2010 when we were facing a very difficult situation between our partners that resulted in a buyout. Things had to be handled in a very quick and controlled manner. Joe listened very carefully to our situation and quickly understood our needs and desires. He organized a plan and executed the terms and agreements for a buyout with all the safe guards imaginable. He took a very scary situation for us and made it smooth and easy! Since then our practice has grown exponentially and Joe has been an adviser to us for many matters and he has helped us with compliance, contracts, practice purchases as well as many other services. We can reach him when we need him. He remembers details, and he is always clear, fair and friendly. He has truly become a friend to us, not just a lawyer.

I had a good experience with Dan and his firm. He helped me with visitation issues. As a family law practitioner in Florida, I understand that family law cases can be costly. Dan worked diligently on my case. Unfortunately, my son's mother was extremely unreasonable and refused to agree with our reasonable requests, which forced us to go to a very expensive trial. In the end, Dan and I obtained the agreement at trial that we had been requesting all along, i.e., we won on all issues. I am happy with the outcome. I am still consistently paying my monthly bill to the firm, but they have not pressured me. My biggest advice to anyone seeking to hire their firm is make sure you can afford it. The firm was probably a bit outside my price range, but in the end they got the job done and I have a good schedule with my son. You can't put price tag on your relationship with your child.

I retained this firm with high expectations. I was assigned to this attorney and he seemed more interested in running up his billable hours than anything else. Despite my repeated instructions to him to curtail his billable time, he wound up charging me over $120,000 for a divorce; far more than twice the amount that opposing counsel charged the other party. I would not recommend him or this firm.

I hired the law firm of Mr. Ghosal. He was handling my case. There was an important issue with time. He went on vacation the following week and did not give my documents to another attorney to deal with. He later had an unsupported opinion (no references to the documents etc. given to him in the case, just wide vague statements) issued to me and was ready to charge me for the time spent for "investigating the case." When I asked for reasons for the opinion, I was not given one. Then I asked to contact a senior attorney in the firm who could review the opinion I was given. That did not happen; instead my agreement was canceled and my retainer was returned. I can support all that I have stated with documents including emails, if necessary.

I used Mr. Woll for my divorce proceedings and was extremely dissatisfied. If you need an attorney with effective negotiation skills, a clear strategy, and the ability to handle your case efficiently, he is NOT the right choice. He failed to achieve the results I sought and, at the time of the trial, admitted he wasn't prepared. Therefore, he convinced me to sign a settlement agreement I didn't want, assuring me it would protect me. Six months later, I had to hire another lawyer and spend an additional $6K on further legal action. While his rates are low, the service reflects the price. He is a good person but not a good divorce attorney.

During mediation, this lawyer was very focused on a "successful" outcome, which is good. However, she did not pay attention to details of the case, and her method of reaching resolution was to berate and sometimes bully me as a client, so that would concede things I was not comfortable with. While I am glad the situation is closed, I feel that the lawyer's approach was neither collaborative nor positive. Also, her rate is very expensive, given that she was not fully engaged in the process.

No matter which side you are on you will be much better off hiring a different lawyer...and I mean any different lawyer. I am not a petty person and have actually never filed an on-line review, but the actions Mr. Binstock definitely demand that people notice. An adult family member with a history of mental disorders and a criminal background hired Paley, Rothman and was essentially robbed right out in the open. It wasn't bad enough that Mr. Binstock double & triple-billed her, but was so brazen as to even give her the bill showing her how she double & triple-billed her. He scheduled several unnecessary hearings in an attempt to pad his bill. He often used extremely unprofessional language in his documents including an unbelievable amount of typos and misspellings. Even reprimands from the judge and having his client lose the majority of the estate in legal penalties did not stop him from getting rich off a client that was in over her head. I could go on and on but hopefully you get the point. We have filed motions with the bar against Mr. Binstock and the firm, but so far have had no progress getting our families money back yet. Mr. Binstock is well past retirement age so it looks like his is just trying to pad his pockets for retirement. Again, while it may appear that I am being dramatic the truth is I haven't even scratched the surface. Do yourself and your family a favor and stay away...you have been warned.

We hired this lawyer to manage my mother's estate and ensure our interests as the heirs. From the beginning he overpromised and under delivered. He will go on and on about how much he knows about everything, he loves to talk, is a big name dropper, and yet when it came to managing the various affairs that came up in the process of handling the estate, we found him extremely difficult to work with, and could do things in a timely and efficient manner without creating a huge headache for everyone. There were several inconsistencies between what he said and what he did. He struggled with the basics which is surprising for someone who has been doing this for so long. For example he was unable to retrieve a $200 security deposit from the apartment building my mother was living in, not because there were damages, but rather because “no one from the apartment building management would call him back”. This sort of thing happened time and time again as he could not retrieve a phone record from the phone company, he did not know how to get tax information on our house that is publicly accessible online, etc. He also inexplicably insisted on hiring his own people for home repairs. These people charged significantly more than the contractors we wanted to hire for the same work that was to be paid for by the estate. Why hire more expensive contractors when the people we wanted to hire were people who were licensed, had done work for us in the past, and were charging less to the estate? We believe he was getting a significant kick back that was offsetting what he was losing from dipping into the estate funds. Especially since he was pushing to do repairs on things that were unnecessary, would drive up the cost, and not covered by the insurance company’s assessment of damages. He also was in charge of getting the homeowner’s insurance company to come up from their initial repair payout. He did get them to pay more but he claimed it was the maximum they were willing to pay. After one phone call to our own contractor, our contractor got the insurance company to pay out even more. The amount of effort we used to convince the lawyer to not use his contractors, and that we wanted to use our own contractors caused needless delays and headaches. We had to set up a meeting in the lawyer’s office just to get him to call off his contractors! It seemed that he was working against us instead of for us?! By his own admission, he can be a real “prick” and we exclusively saw that side of him following our initial meeting with him where he was on his best behavior. He also created several unnecessary delays by claiming he did not use email and that everything had to be done by phone conversation (where there is no record of communication) and/or snail mail where things are needlessly delayed. Halfway through the entire process, he magically started communicating by email once we had a realtor of our choosing involved in the process for selling of the house. Beware…he will try to get you to use his brother who is a realtor. Imagine the conflict of interest! We hired our own realtor who was able to keep the lawyer in check on several occasions. But the sale of the home was also majorly botched. The lawyer failed to address our rent back contingency in reviewing the final sale of home contract. This is a blunder of epic proportions. Because he missed this, the occupants were forced to move 2 months before they were ready and were only informed of this by the buyer's agent, not the lawyer who has tasked for reviewing the contract and whose signature was on the contract as representing the best interests of the estate. Even after we confronted him on this, he refused to admit is negligence. We felt his ego and difficulty in working with our realtor really set us back and made the entire process much more difficult than it had to be. Believe half of what you see and none of what he says. My recommendation, stay away or you will learn the hard way.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
