In the toughest court in the land, Manhattan Divorce court, where the majority of lawyers play couples against each other, using children as pawns. Seth stepped in and put our kids mental well being first and expedited a speedy end to an extremely emotionally painful case. Thank you Seth M. Kaufman.

Brian works for the Legal Aid Society. He would be who is appointed by the court when you find yourself up on criminal charges. I have had the pleasure of dealing with Brian and he is truly amazing. I cannot say enough nice things about him. He helped my brother during a difficult time and was always available to answer questions. If you ever find yourself in a jam then Brian will go above and beyond to help you. He is an amazing lawyer and the fact that he works for Legal Aid should tell you something about him. A selfless and inspiring person. He is the best of the best.

Jacob was amazing. He helped us during the sale of our home and he kept us informed, gave us an estimate of our closing costs in the beginning of the transaction and it was spot on once we closed. I could not have asked for anything better. I will recommend to everyone I know that is in the market to buy or sell their home.

Rare is the attorney with Matt Kazansky's intelligence, compassion, legal knowledge and courtroom acumen. He handled a recent motion by my husband's ex-wife for an upward modification of child support. Matt beat back the motion and my husband won hands-down in the form of a complete dismissal of the case. In fact, my husband didn't even have to testify because Matt shrewdly saw how thin the evidence was and knew he didn't need to jeopardize my husband's testimony to win the case. Matt prepared thoroughly for the court date. He interviewed both me and my husband multiple times, took copious notes and reviewed reams of court documents. But his bills were low. Matthew met with us in person and held several phone conferences. He returned calls very promptly, and he is available by e-mail, cell phone and office phone. Matt is also a very caring person. And he's social in just the right ways. He works the courtroom and he knows the judges and magistrates; he has a very easygoing style but has a shark's temperament. It's a perfect combination. And, most important, he knows the law like the back of his hand. Matrimonial law is his specialty, but he has handled all sorts of other matters for us, including labor cases. In the child support matter, Matt researched case law prodigiously, and he used his findings to great effect in the courtroom. He was such a pro through and through. I can't recommend Matt highly enough. He is going to rise through the ranks quickly. So grab him while you can -- when he's young, eager, and filled with verve for his profession (and while his fees are still so reasonable). Matt is a winner and he will do a winning job any client he represents!

I was refused counsel despite repeated requests for my lawyer. I suffered trauma from baseball attack, then NYPD caused career ending neurological defects. Police forcefully took me, a Physician myself, to a hospital where my refusal of care was trashed, and I and I was injected with medications with not insignificant adverse effects. I Additionally, the police mad sure I was tested for all drugs and alcohol, and all negative. I was exposed to several X-ray based diagnostic procedures. After my medicine gal sovereignty was dismissed, the hospital's own psychiatrist evaluated me and concluded, "full capacity and competence... Okay to go home. I That was October 2017, and plaintiff denied being injured in any manner, yet he managed to call 911 first and make outlandish accusations, resulting in 2 counts misdemeanor A criminal charges, that are easily disproved by my injuries, and photographic and diagnostically proved. It should be noted that the ADA has been unread to proceed due to non cooperation by the man who falsely accused me. Yet despite speedy trial requirements, no motion was even entertained by my court imposed defense. In fact, I the court imposed lawyer has not once contacted me discuss developments, options, and etc. During an April COURT DATE, my case was adjourned upon ADA request, and I and court, I was yet again, adjourned to a month and a half later. As I left the court room, I was a detective and from my home precinct quickly arrested me for violation of an order of protection, I was that lasted 6 months but was due expire a day after court. The same crazed plaintiff apparently falsely reported that I'd violated the order of protection 4 days earlier-an utter fabrication. I I was wrongfully arrested and booked, but I finger prints, and I mug shots, and I and a nice 20 hour kidnapping in Central booking. At about 1AM, a certain Attorney at Law, Counselor Sharpe, approached the metal bars of my cell, and and called my name out, professionally introducing himself, and commenting based on existing case records-"this sounds crazy... what is this fool (plaintiff), trying to achieve? And why is this case not already dismissed. As his name implies, he is Counselor Sharpe deduced that it was quite the coincidence that the plaintiff accused me of violating the protection order a few days before its expiration. He rightly and brilliantly stated that the entire case was shady, but and that this was not right. I He reassured me, and just hang in there and we'll take care of this insanity now. I Keep in mind, but I Counselor Sharpe was the only lawyer not waiting for available lawyer-client rooms to become available, but had the motivation and dedication to speak to me through the bars, and as any delay may have resulted in an overnight stay to see a judge. Maybe 20 minutes later, I was brought before the judge. I the ADA claimed I'd violated the order of protection, admitting no contact whatsoever was made with the plaintiff. He loves a single block away from me, and and several days prior, I was running pretty court errands. Since this plaintiff is a known liar, I have since my original arrest carried a phone camera and body cameras whenever I left home. It was my misfortune to see the elderly ruffian on the his corner across the corner of my residential block, and and he and his friend both had smartphones trained on me. I jogged home, as required, while recording the pursuer. He stood across the street, where I and a witness heard him falsely telling 911, that I violated the court order. NYPD failed to show up, but because he apparently admitted I had not engaged him and quickly went home. Several days later, I was again wrongfully arrested. Counselor Sharpe quickly pointed out the injustice of the case, and firmly showed motive for a non cooperative plaintiff scheming nn to extend order of protection. The I was released without bail ROR!

Antony is very knowledgeable and capable. His work is exemplary, and with my case, he is working under extreme pressure and pressing deadlines that are not his fault, and has shown that he is able and capable under very difficult and trying circumstances. Through it all, he has always been polite, and willing to do the best very best under difficult working conditions that were not his fault. In my particular case, he is working as a contract attorney for Arkady Bukh & Associates PLLC. He took my case over from another Bukh contract attorney who knew my case inside and out, and Antony was given a limited amount of time in getting up to speed and working on discovery issues and demands. He rose to meet this responsibility very admirably. I am very satisfied with his work and determination. I think he is getting well-rounded experience in all aspects of law, including procedural and ethical areas, in the contractual work done for Arkady Bukh, and I think that will serve him well in the future. I wish I had the opportunity to have hired him directly to handle my case. He personally cares about work he does. He is well deserving of the five star rating.

Mr. John Emefieh has serviced my family for over 2 decades. He has won several sticky court cases for me. As I am writing this review (08/13/14 -- 9:45 am), he is in court (Downtown Brooklyn) fighting my battle. Because he is brainy, passionate, realistic, and spritual. I am confident that he will bring me the best result. My Lawyer, Jhon Emefieh, is not greedy for money. His priority is to win the case in order to bring solace and joy to his clients. That is why I personally regard him as my "psychotherapist". He is patient and compasionate with all of his clients. Often when I sit in his office waiting my turn, I overhear other clients praising him. One said ounce " I swear by him". Then I said to myself: I know for myself are good Mr. Emefieh is for I had previous lawyers that I will never go back too. I strongly feel that you should approve him. Mr. Emefieh will remain my #1 lawyer, and I will continue to refer him to everybody. Sincerely!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
