The initial consultation started with Marty Long being concerned about my well being. Bankruptcy is hard and extremely embarrassing. Marty outlined what would take place when filing Chapter 7 and never talked over my head. Marty, also did everything he said he would do in my case. Communication between client and attorney was quick and accurate. Marty sent me on my way with a future that will be debt free. Highly recommend.

I am an experienced lawyer, but no longer handle residential landlord/tenant litigation. When I needed help for a rental property I own, I knew I was not up to date on recent changes to Colorado landlord/tenant laws. Sal personally returned my call promptly and quickly drafted the necessary documents for me. It was a pleasure working with him.

Brad has helped us multiple times for over a decade, and we can’t say enough good things about him. At this point, we’re like family! Brad does not put up with games, he gets the job done and he is phenomenal at making sure everyone is taken care of. Such a caring guy really personal and personable more than any lawyer we’ve ever ever known. I Would not recommend another lawyer better then Brad and his team

Bonnie was the second attorney I had in my year long divorce and the first attorney I had was with a large firm very expensive, I changed to Bonnie after 5 months of getting nowhere with the large firm and had spent over 10K with them. I wish I would have found Bonnie sooner, she was very kind and thoughtful in my needs and didn't over charge me for reading an email or answering a simple question. Don't waste your money with a big firm thinking you're going to get better representation, you are just a number to them and if you're not a number in the seven figures you are pretty much erasable. With Bonnie it's not that way, she cares even after decades of working in the field she isn't complacent/jaded and shows compassion and understanding, but she is going to be upfront and honest with you and your situation. I hope I don't have to use her services again, but if I do she will be my First Choice! Bonnie, words can't do justice to how I appreciate how you have helped me through my ups and downs in this roller coaster of a divorce, I truly have so much respect for what you do, I'm sure it can be so hard dealing with everyone's emotions all the time and I can imagine it to be so difficult not to take it on personally. But you show great compassion and sincerity to help. My daughter and I thank you.

She was a horrible CFI. Yes, technically the review was in my favor (only because she knew she had no way of saying otherwise. I’m a good, stable mother), nonetheless she favored my ex husband, who abused me in every way. She gave him many opportunities such as outside opinions and text, email, and personal calls. I did not receive that same chance to talk and go over anything. She had to come to my house (3 hours away) and over charged me Meanwhile, my ex husband (her favorite) has been charged with felony crimes and DV (still pending). She should be forced to leave her CFI practice. She may be a good lawyer ( though I highly doubt it). If she had her way he would have custody of my kids. She doesn’t care about the facts and she doesn’t care about the kids or their wants and needs. She wants money. Nothing else.

I cannot speak to Ms. Shields as an attorney, but as a CFI I would never recommend her. After 8 years of constant litigation initiated by his ex, and 17 months of litigation that included Ms. Shields CFI investigation, my husband retained full custody and decision making authority for his children AND was awarded relocation by the court in December 2022. She is biased, unfair, and did not have an awareness of correct legal standard, which is concerning, as she is an attorney. She made a threat of filing a motion to try and force her uninformed opinion on my husband based solely on her communication with his ex; worked far outside the scope of her appointment and with no regard for the boundaries of her appointment; advised the opposing party on how to try and “win” her case; made false, erroneous, damaging and disparaging statements about me and my husband; and, baited my husband into saying negative things about his ex that she then used against him. My husband (and by extension I) have been involved in constant litigation with his ex for 8 years through the entirety of which he has retained primary custody and sole decision making for their children. Ms. Shields did not even consider that very basic fact during the investigation. But don’t take my word for it. Here are a few statements about Ms. Shields from the public court order (names of minor children, professionals and/or witnesses have been removed for privacy): • The CFI took issue with Father’s home even though no caseworker or other professional has found that his home is unsafe. • The CFI gave Mother 30 days’ notice for a home visit and Father 13 hours. • [Psychologist] felt compelled to clarify the CFI’s false reference to their conversation about stepmother’s appropriate communication that the CFI indicated was excessive. • In hindsight, the change of therapists was not only not endangering as alleged by the CFI but was clearly in the best interests of [the minor child]. • [Work Product Review Professional] noted that the CFI disregarded Father’s primary role for the last 6 years. • The CFI exceeded the scope of the order appointing her by opining about decision-making and recommending a change in the majority parent when the only motion pending was the relocation motion and a request to change Mother’s dinner visit. • The CFI did not notify Father that she intended to investigate a change in majority parent or decision-making. • The CFI also failed to maintain objectivity. • She inappropriately read the previous CFI report before completing her investigation. • A CFI report is supposed to be a “brief assessment that is nonintrusive, efficient and cost effective” (CJD 04-08) (the CFI report here fails to meet any of those criteria). • Neither the CFI nor the PRE considered the significance of Father’s primary role. • She did an interactional with Mother and the children but not with Father. • She demonstrated no awareness of the correct legal standard according to [the Work Product Review Professional]. • She gave advice to Mother on how to achieve primary parenting. • She did not make good faith efforts to reach [the Psychologist] or [the Family Therapist], one of Father’s collaterals. • She testified that Father said he hated Mother’s guts when it was she who suggested that both parties hate each other. • She spent more time reviewing Mother’s materials and with Mother than with Father.

I am so frustrated at this point. The only assets we have to liquidate are 3 firearms, and after 2 years we are still fighting to get our case closed. They have been doing nothing but just SITTING on our case. Their Trustee has been retired, but they still have him handling our case. I had called , and emailed them throughout the last year...... but It wasn't until I got an attorney of my own to file for divorce that they finally put anything into action! It most likely won't be another few months until they sell them and close our case, and I can finally begin rebuilding my life again! By then, it would be almost 3 years since we filed. And it's been a year since it was discharged! Such a waste of my time.

My experience with CFI Kimberly Utesch in Colorado was highly disappointing. From start to finish, it was evident that Ms. Utesch lacked the competence and dedication necessary for her role. Throughout the investigation process, she seemed to simply phone it in, displaying a lack of thoroughness and professionalism. She often had an auto-reply email set up which made getting a hold of her very difficult. She refused to review any videos or relevant evidence because would not allow me to send these items through Dropbox, as the files were too large for email. She conducted my "home visit" through Zoom. To make this even worse, when she called on Zoom to do the home visit she started to berate me and tell me that it was inappropriate that I had my child present for our interview. She seemingly forgot that this appointment was for the home visit that she had specifically asked me to have my child present. She then proceeded to turn her camera off and "watch us interact" for 30 minutes. One of the most concerning aspects of Ms. Utesch's performance was her failure to interview ANY of the family members who had submitted questionnaires...... on either side of the family. This negligence not only demonstrates a lack of diligence but also raises serious doubts about the validity and fairness of her findings. How can a comprehensive investigation be conducted without gathering input from all relevant parties? Furthermore, Ms. Utesch's overall competency was severely lacking. It was clear that she did not possess the necessary skills or knowledge to handle the complexities of the case. Her lack of attention to detail and apparent disinterest in the matter at hand only exacerbated the situation. To make things worse she then asked for more money at the end of her investigation. The ONLY thing my son's mother and I have ever agreed on is that Ms Utesch has no business being a CFI. Less than a year after her report was completed, our judge allowed us to have another investigation completed. This report had DRASTICALLY different findings. Her entire report was a waste of time and money. Overall, I would not recommend Ms. Utesch as a CFI based on my experience. Her subpar performance and lack of thoroughness do a disservice to the families relying on her expertise. I urge anyone seeking a competent and dedicated CFI to look elsewhere.

The worst experience ever. My wife and I went to get a deed transfer. As a customer we were very clear regarding how the deed needed it to be transfer and draft it. Even in the agreement letter the lawyer stated that he understood what was required of him. It was explained that the deed need to be transfer to my name and to remove my uncle's name of the title. The new deed need to show that my dad and myself will be the future owner of the property. After many phone calls the deed was finally sent to us, which it took over a month. The main reason was that the lawyer sent the document to the title company instead of myself. Trusting the professionalism of the lawyer because the language of a deed can be difficult to understand and as in the agreement was mentioned, the lawyer took out my dad name (which he was not SUPPOSED to do) and left me as the only owner. My wife and I found out that the deed was done wrong because we took to the county to record it and it show that myself is the only owner now. We contact the lawyer assistance to explain the situation which she understood the situation. The assistance informed my wife that she will contact the lawyer. When she called back the lawyer pretty much wash his hands.. putting the excused that it has been a while and if we need a new deed, we needed to repay the $350 . Even though that in the agreement that I singed was stated that the deed needed to change to my father and myself. I recommend you to contact other lawyer that actually pays attention to what you are needing. I will never come back again

Bruce represented me in a very challenging divorce and custody battle that my ex dragged out for several years. He proved himself to be a very capable and ethical lawyer who always gave me great advice on our way to a positive outcome to my case. Bruce takes the time to explain the legal basis of each step and decision along the way, and encouraged me to be fully involved in the process - reading the relevant law citations and reviewing all correspondence. I would highly recommend him to anyone going through a similar situation - you will not find a better person to have in your corner.

Impeccable ethics make him an outstanding attorney who is capable, meticulous, and diligent. He is a straight-talker who will not tell you what you want to hear, but what you need to know. I highly recommend Eric, and feel fortunate to have him on our team. Thanks Eric!

Christelle Beck represented me for a child custody and child support case. She was phenomenal and the opposing counsel didnt stand a chance. She was organized, prepared and ready for the fight. I went from barely seeing my children and having to pay child support to getting nearly full custody, and receiving child support. She also obtain back child support and parenting time that was stolen from me by the other parent. Ms. Beck is amazing and I offer my fully confident recommendation of her.

I too had Christelle Beck represent me in my child support case. This woman is a complete idiot. She dragged my case on for years, alleviating me of $70,000. This was a simple child support case that a later attorney settled for me for under 10k when she resigned from my case. The judge called her to her bench without microphones on and when she walked back she started packing up her papers and stuffed them in her briefcase and hustled out of the courtroom. I seriously question the “Super Lawyers” panel for giving her this title of Super Lawyer” she is a fraud... she is weak... she is only there to take her clients money. If you hire her, this will happen to you as well. I speak from experience as she ruined me financially. These reviews on here about how great she is, are fake. This woman is a complete joke. I watched her lunch get eaten for her by opposing counsel. She got embarrassed over and over. It was sad to watch as she was confused and lost in the process. Do not hire this incompetent excuse for a lawyer.

Hiring Randy was a complete waste of time, like flushing money down the drain. It was a simple case about my government 401k and retirement. After 8 months of 1 hearing and continuous status hearings I fired randy and hired another attorney. During my 1 hour consultation the new attorney did more in 1 hour then Randy did in 8 months. The next status meeting an agreement was reached and settled. Randy had even forgotten that during the first hearing the judge rewarded me with 8 months of back pay maintenance only because the opposing attorney had asked me a question. It had nothing to do with randy. On my last hearing with Randy he was yelling and belligerent with the judge. The judge scolded him and at that point I figured I was losing my case. on that hearing I had given Randy a check for 1,000.00 dollars two weeks later he was calling me asking me for the 1,000.00 dollar check. I told him I gave it to him, my wife checked our back account and he had cashed the check. I fired him shortly after that. After my new attorney notified him that he had been fired. He sent me a bill for another 1,600.00. That would have put me at or near10,000.00 for a simple court case. Please do not trust your money with him. He just care about himself.

Randy Onge is very rude, condescending and verbally abusive. I will not recommend working with him at all. He threatened I would go to jail because I wouldn't let him do what he wanted with my divorce case. He worked for the opposing counsel by not submitting my documents on time and tried to make me responsible for their attorney fees. Will be discussing with women advocate group and the Colorado Bar association because he needs to be stopped.

Upon the recommendation of our practice broker, in 2015 we retained  attorney Chuck Mastin (now located in Centennial , Colorado) to handle the sale of our  dental practice, which included an assignment of our existing lease to the buyer.  Mr. Mastin informed us that his associate, Jeff Bergstrom, would  be  negotiating this lease assignment with the buyer and landlord. While we  were satisfied with the  sales  negotiation and transaction, we cannot say the same of  our lease assignment.  We feel we were not correctly informed by Mr. Bergstrom about the extent of   our continuing  financial liability ( our practice broker had the same understanding  that we did with respect to the term of  our liability),  and that our interests were not adequately protected. The real estate professionals and attorneys we subsequently consulted in 2017,  all agreed with us. Instead of our  financial liability terminating at the conclusion of our five year lease (which was concern enough for us at the time of the sale,   and  this concern was  made very clear to Mr. Bergstrom),  we were informed by the landlord when our own lease ended in 2017,  that we remained responsible in the case of  financial default  by the buyer. This liability would continue indefinitely until a brand new lease  was signed (versus the far more likely option of simply extending the existing lease), which could be many years into  the future!  We immediately contacted Jeff Bergstrom, who was  disinterested in resolving this  precarious  financial situation  we were left in by his having assured us prior to the practice sale that these liability terms of the lease assignment were "absolutely the norm.”   We  therefore had to retain another attorney and spend eight months and over $2200  in legal fees   to negotiate with the landlord the appropriate release of  financial liability  that   was not  included  in the original  lease assignment. We asked Mastin Bergstrom, LLC,  to reimburse us for these  additional legal costs, which would not have arisen had  our interests been adequately protected at the time of the practice sale, but Mr. Bergstrom declined, after ignoring our first request for reimbursement. Needless to say, we are very dissatisfied  with  the quality of  Jeff Bergstrom's professional work.

Michael did not give us any real help on The QDRO process, basically took our money, never returned phone calls when we had questions about the process and directions. We had to use our divorce attorney to help us with the whole process. It was the worst decision to hire him for legal services!!!! I should have known better when he wanted all of the money up front! Took over 1 month to get it all done then again no help in the end.

It is such a shame to see a brand new mom being charged with a felony. She sleeps with her child on the first night home and instead of showing empathy, you charge her? Do you not think she is punishing herself every second for this accident? What is happening to this world? Anyone involved in this should really take a hard look at themselves. Shameful.

The district attorney refused to take a clear fraud case. A babysitter steals a check and writes herself a $1000 check forges a signature and the DA sees no clear case ??!?!!? That’s ridiculous. I’m no law expert but I think starting with forgery and larceny charges is a good place.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
