A cesspool of legal malpractice. I watched several parents go through agonizing ordeals despite ORPC being aware (and failing to intervene). Lots of embedded institutional bias, particularly towards Hispanic clients. In my opinion, ORPC needs a leadership change and more judicial scrutiny.

I was trying to get in contact with then for 4 weeks regarding my lawyer and I only got a response after leaving nasty voice-mail on their general mailbox. Once I got in contact with them they fairly quickly reached out to my lawyer and he became response after that so I do appreciate that. But then after I needed to speak with them again I've called 5 times and I'm still awaiting a call back. It's very frustrating.

Got nothing but negative advice and outlooks from other attorneys I had called. I had given up when Mr. Gulinson called me back and encouraged me to come in. He was encouraging, supportive, professional and great at his job. His Paralegal Jenni is above superb! She is a therapist, a paralegal, a cheerleader and a true friend when you feel alone! Great attorney, great staff! I feel blessed to have been led to their firm.

Bryan and his team were awesome!! Even with not being able to go to their office in person I was still treated like I was valued. After the initial consultation I was convinced I needed to hire Bryan and his team. Everyone on his team played their role wonderfully. I never had any trouble getting emails answered or appointments made. Not sure how many clients they have but I felt like I was their only one because of how much attention I received. Bryan is a down to earth lawyer who i genuinely enjoyed talking to. With his instructions my case went smoothly and the outcome was better than I had hoped. He was upfront with all of my options and not just out to make money. Thanks Bryan!!

DO NOT HIRE THIS FIRM!!!! I hired Kate and Bryan for an employment case. Upon our first meeting Kate made it very clear she believed in open and prompt communication. She told me I had a great case. I advised I would give our meeting some thought and let her know about retaining her. A few days later I get an non egagement letter pressuring me about hiring the firm. I was worried and decided to hire her to represent me, despite her ignoring my e-mails/questions days prior. She takes my thousands of dollars and then it becomes harder to get in contact with her! It takes three weeks to schedule a simple phone meeting. Anytime I had questions, I had to wait over a week to speak to her. They overcharged me by over a $1,000 and it took a week to get my issue resolved. I sought her advice about litigation and she agreed it was a good course of action. And that she would move forward with a plan of action. Three weeks later she hadn't done anything with my case or answered my e-mails. Then out-of-the blue I get an email stating she has terminated me as a client because she is too busy to handle my case?! STAY AWAY FROM THIS SO CALLED "LAWFIRM" they will waste your time and under deliver.

Mr. Wasley was unprofessional when I first spoke to him in 2019. This is regarding the custody case. Between the father of my child and I. I expressed to Mr. Wasley. What if? The other party was lying. Mr. Wasley. stated he has a " B.S meter". That's what first. Was kind of odd. To me, the choice of words he was using. When I spoke. to Mr. Wasley in 2021. He told me if I needed to talk to him again to reach out to him for another phone call, he never answered me back. He's a lazy investigator. He said the state is not paying him no money at all, so I feel like he did a lazy job on the investigation!

Mr. Wasley was great in the beginning. Scheduled everything came out my home right away for my DR case with my kids ( for drug and alcohol abuse as well as physically abusing on their dads side) my kids-and then everything changed. I still to this day can not get ahold of Mr. Wasley. It’s been a month in half sense court in July of 2022. He never showed up for court. Never finished the final report or submitted it to the court. And I still cannot get my retainer back for services not rendered. I have sent emails, texts, and voicemails to get no reply. I was court ordered to use him thru the Jefferson county court. I have used two previous CFIs and have never had to this happen before.

I read other reviews mentioning negative experiences with Ted, particularly noting his rudeness and self-importance during introductory conversations. Initially, I didn't think this was enough to judge him by, but my experience confirmed their sentiments. During our introductory call, I was appalled by Ted's attitude and disrespect towards other attorneys. He dominated the conversation, leaving me no opportunity to speak. Instead of discussing my case, he insisted on "telling me" how things would be, which felt overbearing and dismissive. Ted's approach was self-gratifying and belittling, showing no humility or understanding that clients are paying for his service. It's astonishing to encounter an attorney who lacks basic respect and empathy for his clients. Ted's behavior is unacceptable for someone in a service-oriented profession.

I have no experience with this attorney, other than the consultation. He may be great in court, but his social skills on the phone were subpar. He did not listen well, rushing to get it over with and often interrupting stating that I was off topic or jumping around, when I was not. He did not listen to facts that I had hoped to share then left me with an over-simplified conclusion. He was also quite unmodest about his credentials, stating that he was perhaps the most experienced attorney on the site and that all of his reviews were positive. I can't state this for certain, but I question the validity of the reviews, which are nearly all 5 stars. One reason I question this is that he quoted me $300 per hour with a $5000 retainer, which differs from the posted $250 and $2500 retainer posted on the site.

Ted was invaluable with helping me through my divorce. My ex is a bully, manipulative, narcissistic and very difficult to deal with. Mediation was completely out of the question, although I really believed it possible at one point. If you are going into a contentious divorce with kids and/or assets, Ted is the man to have in your corner. He was aggressive when necessary, totally on top of the deadlines, the legalities and very responsive when I had yet another problem from my husband. His billing was transparent and easy to understand. One suggestion I would make with any legal situation, listen to your attorney, don't kid yourself about anything, be truthful and be very cooperative when it comes to the courts. I can't say enough good things about Ted. And I am thankfully divorced. I had to go trial because my ex husband just refused to work with me on any level. He refused to leave the house and took every opportunity to make the divorce harder on our kids, more expensive and time consuming. When you are putting the next 10+ years in the hands of a judge who has to put the needs your kids first and foremost, and it costing a fortune, it is worth it to have Ted Shih as your lawyer.

Nancy Holten, it's working with the DA to get convictions on innocent people. That she know is innocent. She don't do no work she don't return calls she can't give you a direct answer when you ask her a question!about your case. She tells you that she got to go back and look at the paperwork never gets back with you to clarify what she found after you tell her. She just a very nonchalant person as a lawyer. You tell her the same thing over and over and over again and then she tell you oh I don't remember that I have to go back and look at the paperwork.

I am currently being represented by Nancy Holton. My case has been set for trial in a few months. She has met with me one time in 15 months and she never returns my phone calls. She has pressured me to take a deal that was put on the table before I even plead "Guilty or Not Guilty." She has filed one motion on my behalf because I requested to see my discovery and that was 11 months after she became my court appointed attorney. I have still not seen the discovery. The one time that we met she told me that it was way too many pages to buy but she will go through it and take out the pages I don't need. I can pick it up that same day from the front desk. I still have not seen it. It never made it to the front desk or in to my hands. The charge that I am facing a is a felony but I have been offered a misdemeanor charge if I take the deal and the prosecutor has offered me no jail time. I am moving forward with this because I am not guilty and my attorney has no idea where we are in the case each time were in court. I have to remind her of what had happened in the last court hearing. There are extenuating circumstances where the police involved violated at least 3 constitutional rights and my attorney is playing dumb. I am set for trial and nothing towards my case has been gone over and at this point I am not sure what to do.

If I could give a 0 rating I would this man should have retired 10 years ago all he does is talk to you like you're a friend and he gives you advice but never actually helps you with your court case. He sat in on a mediation with me and talked to my sister the entire time about her living in New York and then turned around and tried to charge me thousands of dollars for it. I ended up having to complete my entire case alone with the courts. He should be disbarred if you ask me and he should give his services away for free.

Like the two other reviewers I too had a horrible experience with Jill Dorancy! Anyone who is dealing with narcissistic abuse and divorcing their spouse to protect themselves and most importantly their children will only find legal abuse of Jill’s authority under the color of law. I filed C.R.C.P 97 Motion for a change of Judge to the attention of Second Judicial Chief Judge. As a Black woman myself, I’m the least bit surprised Jill was/is only a “Black face” or what Malcolm X said best “House Negro” with the City and County of Denver. Know your Due Process & Constitutional Rights & Federal Keeping Families Safe Act (Kaydens Law) and most importantly 42 U.S.C. § 1983 if/when going before this actor. ZERO star rating and displeasure that most care less to read beyond Blue Book/ voting for judges and Colorado being a State without public judicial accountability. Sadly you get a lot of culprits like Jill who campaign off of RACE and “being 1 out of 8 Black women judges in Colorado”; when Justice was/is to be “blind” and a Judge’s duty is to fairly interpret /apply the LAW…. She certainly took a lot of tips practicing oil law….

As a judge with going on 5 years of family court, after years fighting for Oil & Gas companies while also being on their committees, you'd think she may learn a thing or two about domestic abusers and how they function in court. Or not, but maybe that's what a background in O&G can do to you. I went through almost the same experience as the last reviewer, and felt like she failed to recognize the abuse in the relationship despite police documents (i.e. "hearsay") and a criminal conviction. She allowed my abuser to perjure himself and use abusive litigation tactics to tear me down to the core, while I was already dealing with severe domestic assault trauma. This experience contributed to the PTSD I was already dealing with. This judge seemed biased against me from the very beginning and perpetuated the perjury that my now ex-husband concocted for 9 months longer than necessary, only to allow him to withdraw, for no reason, his perjury/lie less than 2 weeks before our full-day divorce trial (mind you, I got assaulted by my ex on my wedding night 9 months before). Not only that, he was let off early by the Court that convicted him, unbeknownst to me, and Judge Dorancy wouldn't even give me the Permanent Protection Order I needed (after 3 attempts to service him) - which I should have had still thhrough the criminal courts, had the system not let him off early without notifying the victim and getting their input. This "law-abiding" judge does not factor into accounts of abuse, substance abuse, sexual abuse (I was unknowingly exposed to Hep B for 8 years), psychological abuse or other contributing factors/conditions, point blank. In other words, she lacks trauma awareness. For her to be in this court of law is an injustice to all victims of domestic violence and narcissist abuse. She just doesn't see it or is predisposed to it. Although she is black (which I applaud because we need more diversity in this area), she doesn't seem to consider mental health conditions, often caused by the abuser, in her judicial functioning and decision-making. I felt discriminated by her for my mental conditions that I don't even have a choice in the matter. That my ex also contributed to significantly. To put it lightly, I felt discriminated against from the very start while they ignored common civil procedures that I knew nothing in my trauma/continued-trauma state and used my mental health against me when I asked for additional help. From my experience, she is unqualified to make decisions in the best interests of the people and not her pockets, own interests/views, or the behind-the-scenes games we know get played especially when there are high dollars are at stake. History runs deep. If I had this judge, I would ask for another (which I did, and was denied). You are in your own best interest. Judge Dorancy seems very biased towards a lot of things including lawyers she claims to have never worked with although the relationship seems very "chummy" whose motions are accepted in short order (while mine are denied or delayed). If you can change judges on your divorce matters, they never said it didn't hurt to try. TL/DR: Hire a powerful attorney with this judge and don't try to self-represent. She does not have your best interests at heart and barely cares to hear your story and apply compassion while maintaining her judicial obligations. You need someone else to challenge her back; she does not respect pro-se litigation.

Jill was my judge for my court case. She was put on my case for god knows why. I am finally a single mother of two and I’m trying to get full custody of my kids. I’m also still trying to get away from my abusive narcissistic ex husband and get my kids somewhere safe. I had proof of everything my ex was doing to me and my kids and I had proof from all the 6 years I was with him plus stuff that happened after I was able to divorce him. I was doing all of this on my own and I was trying so hard to show Jill how he is as a person. Jill did not listen to me one bit. I even had witnesses to testify and she didn’t believe anyone. My ex had nothing, just his words. In my last case before she closed my case without telling me, when I was testifying she kept rubbing her eyes and the bridge of her nose, she was swaying side to side in her chair and basically acting like I was annoying and she didn’t want to hear what I had to say. She probably thought I was just an angry ex wife trying to get back at my ex husband for hurting me. That’s not the case. When my ex testified she sat up straight and listened to what he had to say. All he kept saying was “I love my kids” “I take them out and we have fun.” I had police reports that I bought to show the judge that I had to call the cops on him multiple times. I had proof that he followed me from my job to a near by park after I left him because he was so jealous and thought I was doing things I shouldn’t be. I had to call some co workers and the cops just because I didn’t feel safe, and Jill still didn’t do anything and I did not get full custody of my kids. Jill is a horrible judge. She is being biased toward me. She is the reason my kids will still have to live through this trauma. I’m still going to fight for custody but Jill doesn’t deserve to be on the family law bench also since all she knows is oil.

Foley & Lardner, who falsely pride themselves on diversity and inclusion, recently targeted one of their ONLY female, Arab-Muslim associates in the firm nationwide . F&L unlawfully terminated Georgetown Law graduate, Jinan Chehade, before her official first day of employment, this taking place after heavily interrogating her for her support of the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, framing her advocacy for Palestine as supporting terrorism. It is clear that this firm deliberately supports Islamophobia and discriminates against its Muslim associates and clients, while not taking any disciplinary action against its associates who openly express their hatred for Muslims.

He prepared the trust to our satisfaction and we had one update in 2012 when we were told that Joel and his Law Partner(Peter Scott) were parting ways. We were given the choice of which partner we wanted to continue to use. We elected to stay with Joel since we felt comfortable with him. We felt that this would be very important after someone passes and he was young enough that our kids could relate to him and be comforable around him if my spouse and I passed together. Since the Law Partnership breakup Joel has not returned phone calls or emails. I have sent emails through AVVO as well. The annual payment notice has not been sent to me even with me leaving messages that I still wanted the plan and was willing to pay. I would hate to see how Joel would responded when my children would need him most. My father was a lawyer and one that worked for the good of his clients but I guess that is "old school."

I hired Matt Wolf, Jennifer Schlatter and Bailey Pompea, all with Allen Vellone Wolf Law Firm to represent me in a civil case. Leading up to trial, they recommended that I file additional charges on top of my original claim because, they said, the defendants responses in discovery proved their guilt, in writing, on these additional charges. The legal work to prepare multiple claims resulted in attorneys fees exceeding $80,000 just to get to mandated pretrial mediation. At mediation, all three lawyers at Allen Vellone had no argument prepared to defend my case. My attorneys did not understand, and could not defend, my original complaint. They offered no argument at all to support the additional complaints that they had recommended. The defendant's attorneys destroyed Allen Vellone in all arguments. The mediator ruled that I had no case on ANY of my claims. To have any chance of winning if I proceeded to trial, I needed to hire new attorneys. Since I could not afford to start over with new attorneys, I was forced to drop my claims. All of them! But it gets worse: At mediation, all three attorneys provided me with an estimate of my net legal costs through mediation for the entire team. I requested this so that I would be prepared to negotiate a settlement, if necessary. When I dropped my case after mediation, Allen Vellone billed me TWICE AS MUCH for mediation as they had verbally quoted. When I disputed the inflated amount, Allen Vellone said that they did not remember giving me an estimate. They still charged me an extra $10,000 to add to my losses, and to pad their pockets. Wolf's, Schlatter's and Pompea's actions clearly show that they were not interested in giving me quality representation. All they cared about was running up their fees. First by adding claims that were subsequently thrown out. Secondly by jacking up their fees when my engagement with them was ending. Instead of paying $50,000 to win a potential settlement of $200,000... with Wolf, Schlatter and Pompea, I paid $80,000 to lose and and win NOTHING!

Don't expect any communication unless you initiate it yourself. He rarely responded to calls or messages. Showed up to the wrong courthouse almost causing a failure to appear. Really did nothing for us except took our money.

I did most of the work. I gathered all the evidence. Then he didn't pay my hospital or ambulance bill. I started getting collection calls for those bills. It was understood from the very beginning that he would pay ALL bills related to my accident. After threatening him with a law suit, he paid off those bills.

He was awful. He failed to do what his job was. Wouldn't answer calls emails and missed court hearings and had excuses out the rear. He made promises to do things that he failed to do. This was a horrible experience with him on my case. You pay him and he'll be ontop of it for a few days and then falls off completely. It's sad he practices law like this. He's suppose to be fighting for people and he just brushes them off. It's very sad! Don't use this lawyer.

Our first 12:30pm meeting with Mr Musselman he showed up 45 minutes late with no excuse. He seemed disorganized, unrested, and un apologetic. He pulled it together at the initial meeting so we wrote him a check. Then he ghosted us for the next 33 days with the odd text message at 4am and a message we needed to get a lot of paperwork ready in the next 3 hours. 3 hours??? He disappeared for 33 days. Do not hire this guy.

James Freemyer, contract signed on contingency with intent to go to trial. A few months later he accepted policy limit offer without consulting me. I’ve had surgery on my neck, permanent disability and out of work. This attorney settled my case without my permission for 100,000 with 200,000 in doctors bills. The remaining of the 100,000 is 38,000 has a lien on it from Mr. Freemyer for attorney fees and costs. I was a passenger in a car with my minor child at the time. And James E. Freemyer in bad faith was the leading team player of the attorney against my son and I. Now I’m facing him in court about his attorney fees witch after refusing signature on release he withdrew from counsel before filing any discovery or any filings other than complaint witch included C.R.S 10-3-1115 and 1116, Is bad faith law in Colorado against insurance companies, this also needs to be implemented into attorneys acting in bad faith. Please stay away from James E. Freemyer in all manners!

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.

  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
