Anthony helped out with a false arrest case as a public defender and got me off on the charges. I thought I he did a great job of taking care of me. He convinced me that not all judges are bad. I guess some other people review attorneys based on if they won or lost. My case was such that Anthony could not have cared, but he gave my case an impartial look and even though I deserved criticism he only gave me constructive feedback.

I was a client of this lawyer, through the public defense program in Eugene. I found him to be unresponsive to the facts of my case, and initially unwilling to consult me on even the most basic facts of my case. He did not note or consider any of the information I provided to him (verbally) in our meeting. If I could afford representation I would not have given him even a first chance to meet with me. I would have left after speaking with him for about four minutes max, if I even considered hiring him in the first place. That is the truth. My experience with him was that bad and I found him to be that unprofessional. I could tell immediately he was going to ignore everything I said to him. It is not my job to coerce legal representation provided by the public into doing some work on my behalf. This attorney had taken on a responsibility to members of the public including me, and he is thus responsible for ensuring the American right to counsel as he can best provide it. He is either incompetent, completely, or flagrantly disrespecting his duty ethically as a public defender. Each individual he is assigned is equally entitled to counsel, and these are people that are coming to him with no other recourse. You would think that reality would elicit concern, but that was not my impression. My impression was that my counsel felt I did not deserve him or deserve counsel at all. If Anthony Rosta doesn't like his responsibility to the public, or can't provide counsel (competently) to every one of his clients, I believe he should quit. As his client it is my right to come forward with all the information I have about my charges and my case. My attorney should be willing to think creatively and problem solve about the facts of the case, both the facts I present and the facts the city presents. A part of representation is investigating and gathering facts. If an attorney won't go forward without proof or evidence of some kind from his clients, he should notify his clients immediately of that. Instead of immediately doing this with me and saving me some time he played mind-games, perhaps believing I was doing so as well. I experienced him as being image-obsessed, as if our meetings were somehow about him or what he would believe as an intelligent and experienced person and attorney. Yet it was not about him, and it didn't seem like he could see that. I was very disappointed with his counsel, and not only did he speak to me like a small child, he employed psychologically aggressive gaslighting techniques. Perhaps this is his way of communicating a different subtext I did not understand, but its effect was not to communicate anything at all except an unwillingness to work or see things from the clients' perspective. When someone has been through something upsetting or traumatic, the use of aggressive or confrontational techniques that directly negate the clients stated version of events can distort the truth from the client, or the ability of the client to recall correct information, which is not what you want. It is stressful to be repeatedly contradicted and denied when in the presence of your supposed ally who is supposed to be helping you further your interests. I have already thought I recalled information that was not correct at least twice because of the disrespectful manner in which I was engaged by two separate attorneys with Rosta and Connelly. I hope it is not this bad everywhere but I suspect it is. Without legal counsel I do not know how I will be able to proceed.

Both my wife and I like Mr Palmer, very personable, straight forward, friendly. Not afraid to tell you all about his accolades and then some, but that's okay, you want to know the attorney you have is worth his salt. Some of the meeting times we had seemed redundant, like, didn't we already cover this? In some ways, I felt after we left the appointment, he set his tablet aside and forgot most of what we went over times past even though he took copious notes. Our case was simple, not heated and hateful, we knew what we wanted for outcome and actually got less than where we started. His interrogation of the ex spouse was pitiful. We had gone over some talking points that he either forgot or decided at the last minute not to use, of course once the case starts, you can't say a thing and if you try to pass him a note he pushes it away. His knowledge of courtroom procedures and family law is really very good, we just didn't like his style and the judge in our case evidently didn't either. For us, the missed outcome didn't hurt us but we could think of other cases where it could be crucial. We will not recommend against him because, like I said, he knew his stuff. Maybe just not a good day for us. If you're looking for a bulldog attorney, then you might want to consider someone else, if your looking for a gentleman attorney, then that description is more in line with his style and personality. You can't have them both.

Quoted me $150/hr to take my case. Sent me an Email saying he worked ~3 hours to review my case then charged me almost $1500 to tell me he was not going to take the case based on information I gave him the first day in the consultation! This lawyer will take your money without providing any services whatsoever! Take your money elsewhere, there are plenty of lawyers who are not out to steal your money. James A Palmer should be disbarred!

My case was never a priority and it cost me greatly. I was charged every time I spoke to him or his secretary even when they would call me. Half the time his secretary wasn't available and was over worked so she didn't have the motivation to have things processed.

His legal assistant will constantly call you which they charge when she does so. She would call almost daily if not several times in one day. Also Stacey will have you do the investigative things yet charge you. Just like we were to go though all the findings and note the discrepancies. Yet again we were charged. When questioned about billing told we were okay just showing where the money was going. When in fact we had a owing balance due. And their is no detail billing showing what was done. On several occasions things were to done and sent to the other attorney and had to get extensions as she had forgot to send it or to let us know about it. Did not do what said would be done. Don himself is very knowledgeable and straight to the point. But he really needs an assistant that knows what she is doing and can handle the documents she is responsible for and to have it done in a timely manner.

I came to Mr. Armstrong looking for a second opinion after some curious experiences with a different lawyer. He was a godsend. Far more helpful to me than the lawyer I had been paying. He is informed, honorable, smart, strong and reasonable in a crunch, and a good man. Working with him will spare you much unnecessary stress. Highly recommended!

Did an initial hour consult with Robert. He felt we had a negligence case and asked for all records to evaluate further. Once retrieved 3-4 weeks later, he asked for a regurgitated summary. I was shocked that he admitted he does not take notes. Bottom line, this guy is lazy and in the end, most likely not the best choice for representation.

I wrote his office, told them what happened in the ER, mentioned how I was misdiagnosed by the doctor (and this was after I specifically told the ER Doctor what the problem most likely was, and that I needed to be referred to a couple specialists), then I was threatened by the ER Doctor, who stated she would withhold the referrals I needed to fix my issue, unless I selected a primary care provider of their choosing, since I didn't have one yet. I didn't want to choose one, as I had just the day prior to being seen, finally received health insurance from my work, and was not sure if they would require me to select a primary care provider of the insurances choosing or not, since a lot of them do require in-network doctors only, which I told her and the administrator that was with her when they forced me to choose one or not get the referrals I required. His company stated while they were sorry it happened, his office was not going to represent me. Excerpt from his offices response: (This a direct cut and paste) "Your good fortune to have survived all you went through is why you do not have a case to pursue with our office. We see “almost died” cases regularly. They stem from traumatic events, bad medical attention and wrong diagnosis. But the patients, like yourself, survived and escaped significant injury caused by the substandard care. The damages are insufficient to merit a case. Glad you are doing much better. You have two yrs. to file a malpractice claim from the date of your poor care should you elect to pursue this matter further. It just won’t be with our firm . Thanks for your inquiry." So, correct me if I am wrong, but, his website specifically states they go after bad misdiagnosis and bad ER situations, which mine was, yet, his office won't touch this? Excerpt direct from his website, cut and pasted: We assist injured people with a wide range of medical malpractice cases, including: Birth injuries to a mother or child The wrongful death of a patient Errors in surgery and retained surgical instruments Radiology and anesthesia errors Emergency room mistakes (This one was relevant to my situation) Failure to diagnose illnesses or injuries (Also relevant) Seems that perhaps his office or he doesn't care about "hard to work" cases, just the ones they feel will be able to outfit their lifestyle with fast/easy money only. I don't recommend anyone to use his offices services, especially if they never help those that have been rooked by the system that his office claims they go after, and don't.

Pablo’s seems like he’s too busy so if you’re looking for fast service as a new client I would recommend looking elsewhere.

with held info and didn't forward personal info to her replacement as she left defenders office in Eugene . specific I am ADD and ADHD. she also had very important info. she never disclosed to me. my new attorney says I have no defense. I do have a very good defense just no one will listen to it. I also had been asking her over and over again what to do about a court date I missed which is clearly part of my criminal case. protective order which the plantiff is the victim in my harassment case still pending. problem was with that decision was I didn't get to present my side due to an error which I went to court on wrong day. I had just been appointed to clara and with in two days of missing that court date I left messages for her to contact me as I was informed to do by the courts. specifically to contact her as for the charge of harassment. I understand now that my time to appeal the stalking protective order has expired. the info. used against me in protective order and my criminal harassment case is the exact info. victim in uses in both the civil case and now the criminal case. clara did not even explain or discuss the issue of civil matter until it was to late to appeal. then she told me she was only hired to handle and didn't advise me in any manner or even refer me to any one.

Retained Douglas Haynes to represent me in my divorce. He was completely non-responsive. As the court date neared he did not take my calls or responde to voice mails or emails. I was not able to retain another attorney. I finally sent a certified letter requesting that he respond. I copied the court on that letter. He never contacted me. I went to the court date expecting to represent myself only to find him walking in and responding to the court as my case was called. I was shocked he was there but a little relieved that I had someone to represent me. It was then that I found out that he never informed me of a deposition that I was to attend. The court awarded my ex-wifes attorney a $1500 judgement against me for failing to appear. The judge also had me pay for the mediation ordered. Doug Haynes has cost me so much money from his lack of representation. I would recommend never seeking advice or service from him.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
