Gary is a board certified family lawyer with 45 years experience. He is very compassionate towards his clients and uses his vast experience to get the most for your case. Gary uses the law and the resources it provides to win your case. I would highly recommend Gary. He is not part of a huge law firm and he takes each case to heart and gets to know the person he is representing. He is willing to meet you after normal office hours when he is available. Gary is a great lawyer.

This lawyer charged me exhorbitant fees for his services, so much that even the judge who recently met with me was appalled. (I was too naive, never had a lawyer before and didn't know what normal charges should be. For all the money I gave him, he did absolutely nothing for me except pretend to care when I was upset. He says he's a "specialist" in marital affairs- yet you might be surprised as I was, that he claims he had to do research after almost each and every contact.(actually, you might only see that when you get the bill.) Also, he treated me as a child in the respect that after he told me something two times and I said "I understand, he tersely replied, "NO, you don't"- so he insisted on taking more time to tell me the same thing a THIRD time. Certainly I need to be a bit familiar with it as things come up along the way- but it is HIS JOB to know the laws !!! May I suggest you watch what he researches,(remember, he claims he's a "specialist!) and keep very, very, careful records of every call, every conversation, and all dates of contact with him, too. I had to eventually fire him and start my divorce over from scratch.

This law firm is terrible. They were hired for a case and never return phone calls. You can not get an update on the case but they keep billing even when nothing new has been filed. They can not keep track and itemize things they have done and do not genuinely care about the work they do. terrible experience

(Family Law regarding Parental Alienation and Contempt of Court). Rarely responded to emails on issues, Became passive 2 days before hearing and wanted to drop all issues on contempt of court. Feel as though there was no consideration, compassion or care shown regarding clear issues.

I consulted with Jennifer on my civil rights case against a city and police department. Her first question, "does your case involve excessive force?" My response was "any force used in an unlawful arrest is excessive!" Her tone quickly changes when she learns my case is not a multi-million dollar police brutality case. It is an open an shut case of police barging into my home and arresting me without warrant or probable cause. After three months of review and numerous emails and calls, sheand her colleagues at Maddux decide not to take my case because, "the value is likely minimal compared to the cost of litigation." Please read the firm's advertisements about pro bono work they've done and the caring and healing of the client. I spent 7 days in jail. I lost my job and can't get rehired because of a false felony arrest record. She also opines that my case won't overcome qualified immunity. I've done the research and given her the clearly established cases that overcame immunity. She just won't listen. It's all about the money and money only. Take your case to a better firm than this one.

I hired this attorney to begin a civil lawsuit case. Before I knew it, he had thrown a number of attorneys at me. I was in extreme distress and he took advantage of my situation. He overcharged tremendously, causing me great financial loss. I would definitely not recommend this man.

This defense attorney worked for Eckerd's Drug Store in 1996; she defended this White drug store whose manager called the police to arrest 19 year old Elizabeth Leiba, a student, because a theft-detectir went off on a package of batteries in her bookbag. This Drug Store had Miss Leiba falsely arrested because she was Black. I despise this attorney & Eckerd's Drug store & the anonymous manager. Black Lives Matter.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
