Been handling my case since 1999, and have been able to get every medical expense, and most disability issues resolved. They have always gotten what was requested, and gave fair advice to myself. The only complaint that I would have is their time to get back to someone regarding their case. Occasionally this is delayed due to various reasons.

Ken Farrell was referred to me by the Erie County Bar Association - which provided confidence from the start. He and his team continued to earn that confidence throughout the whole process. In brief - Ken assisted in domesticating a Canadian divorce and ensuring that a subsequent QDRO agreement was appropriately developed and filed. I had worked with several other lawyers to conduct this work, but none were astute and diligent enough to work through the novel challenges presented. In contrast, Ken and his team worked through the process in a deliberate and efficient manner, through to a successful conclusion. I can't recommend them strongly enough. Thank you Ken and team!

My husband and I hired Cheryl to do a simple Power of Attorney for my husband and me. We met with her in early February 2021 and filled out all the paperwork. She told us that she needed to send a document to our son in Florida for his signature. She mailed the paperwork to him, but he kept calling me (for many weeks) saying that the paperwork never arrived. I tried calling Cheryl multiple times to try to find out what happened. She did not respond to any of my phone calls. It was very frustrating to leave messages on her machine and have her not respond when I knew that something was terribly wrong. She must not have a secretary or receptionist, so instead of speaking with a live person, I had to depend on the messages I left on her answering machine. She finally contacted me and told me that she sent the paperwork to the wrong address. She sent the paperwork out again and our son signed it and sent it back via "return-receipt requested" mail. After paying the extra postage for the paperwork to arrive quickly, Cheryl did nothing with it for quite some time, so I tried calling her again. Once again, she did not get back to me. The only message that she quickly responded to was the one I left on her machine that said that I wanted my money back and that I was going to hire another lawyer. It took over 6 months from the time we filled out the paperwork to finally getting the POA completed. To be fair, once she sent it to the court house, there was a delay in getting the paperwork processed, and that was not her fault. I don't know if the fee she charged was fair or not, but my daughter recently hired a lawyer to handle her and her husband's wills, Living Wills and Health Proxies. She was charge far less for all three documents for her and her husband than I was charged. Cheryl came highly recommended by our previous lawyer who retired. I was very disappointed with the way everything was handled for my husband and me. I would not recommend her due to her lack of follow up to her voicemail messages. It was very frustrating dealing with her when she was so non responsive to us.

He sounds like he is going to stutter when he begins to talk to the judge. He forgot to bring important documents to court. I was convicted of a a misdemeanor. He told me that they would explore all available options which could be a conditional discharge or even probation. When he spoke to the Judge the first thing out of his mouth was your honor if you are going to incarcerated my client.....I wish he would have been honest with me I would have hired a different lawyer.

Extremely rude, disrespectful, moody, and lazy attorney. Mr. Lupiani does the minimal amount of work needed for your case. Never got any of the information about my case from my previous attorney. Mr. Lupiani always wants you to go to him to sign documents and it always need to be signed asap. There is a thing called send it in the mail. He does not take notes when discussing details about the case. This became a problem because he would do things that I never said for him to do or proceed. And due to lack of his notes and communication, he would always say you told me to do that, when in fact the notes I took from the same conversation said the exact opposite. As paying client you should be represented with respect, honesty, loyalty, and to the highest ethical standards. He is more into his looks than doing his job for his clients.

Hired Freidman to handle estate of my sister. Paid $2000 upfront. It was during height of the pandemic but NEVER met him, always had Rachelle(his asst,) meet me. Gave me incorrect info on order of payments to creditors and others. Had to print out correct info and give to him. Never returns your phone calls. Makes phone appointments then stiffs and his office doesn't even call to cancel. Leaves you sitting by phone wasting your time. Believe we are finally finished with this process but I had chase down this guy to get things done or do them myself. Just picked this lawyer without knowing about him -total mistake- do you due diligence-just don't hire this guy. He was an associate at Gaughan Group when I hired him. After much frustration with unanswered phone calls Dennis Gaughan told me he fired him and I should try to find new lawyer. Freidmann then set up his own practice on Main Street in Hamburg. Felt I had to stick with him because he had my money. In conclusion, look at reviews or get referrals from friends. Just Don't hire this guy.

I would not recommend Dan. I told him police lied about everything and that I wanted police records regarding the arrest. He made no attempts to do so. Which means there was no point in telling him my version of events of what happened. Allowing the police to withhold evidence that could prove my innocence is just as criminal as the police committing perjury like they did. After we lost in court Dan had the nerve to tell me that he should had charged me more money in the beginning. He failed to file motions at the end which nearly ruined my chances of filing an appeal. Dan knew the police lied and did absolutly nothing about it. He never even questioned the lies in court. Seemed as though he was keeping it secret that the police lied and helped the police cover it up. Dan and the police irreparably destroy my life.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
