I am a fairly well known and prominent trial litigator in the Central Pennsylvania area. From every now and then even a litigator needs an attorney. In my humble opinion having litigated against a great many in this general area, the choice for me and to meet my needs was simple...John B Zonarich. His candor, his ready availability and his zealous representation of me and my most important matter was everything that I wanted and desired. If you are a prospective new client actively looking for a well established and great attorney who can easily recognize, set goals and try to achieve them all while keeping an eye on the bottom line, look no further. Take this fellow litigator's advice and call him. You ill be happy that you did.

I retained Mr. Brenner on the advice of another attorney when it became apparent that I was likely to face a frivolous lawsuit from an ex. This was my first experience with civil law, and among my first experiences with retaining an attorney in general. That said, I did not know what to expect, and I was frustrated and scared. Tom did a great job of walking me through the process and letting me vent when necessary. The process makes a glacier look fast! Tom was always available when I needed him and did a great job of explaining things in a way that I understood. Perhaps most importantly, he listened to me, endeavored to understand the uniqueness (perceived or real) of my situation, and then explained my options in a way I could understand, and then let/made me decide on the course of action I thought was best for me prior to making any major moves. Tom knows the system, the players and the process. My general take on the situation was that I wanted to fight since it was my money and my reputation that needed defending. That said, I guess the result is that my perception was that we didn’t fight as hard as possible. However, that MAY be more emotion than reality on my part as the case is now settled in a manner that ultimately was acceptable to me. Once I swallowed that settling may be the best option, I have to say that Tom did an excellent job in those proceedings. INFO I FEEL I NEED TO INCLUDE: No matter who you choose to hire, I strongly recommend that you do your homework and make use of free initial consults to ensure that whoever you choose is a good fit for you. I was shocked by my whole situation, had far too much faith in the system, and did not make good use of these initial consults. If you are hiring an attorney to represent you in Pennsylvania, I recommend that you check here as well: https://www.padisciplinaryboard.org/for-the-public/find-attorney. It is unlikely that you will find an attorney with a history of founded ethical violations since this is a case of attorneys policing their own (something they just don’t do), but I encourage you to check anyway. Lastly, set realistic expectations. It isn’t like on TV—rest assured that attorneys are not going to call out their own. It is a cult, and non-attorneys are on the outside looking in—even though your life and livelihood may depend on it.

attorney Monica baturin was a genuinely concerned, compassionate attorney. She was professional and prompt in returning my phone calls and also accommodated my work schedule in setting up office appointments to discuss my case. She was also very knowledgeable about custody and support matters and also other general family and juvenile issues. Her fees were reasonable also.

Joseph Quinones was not retained by me but was very formal and held professional conduct in directing me to the right type of help and advice. I appreciate his time and concern and would recommend him to anyone based what I seen him provide as legal resource and free consultation to someone he hasn’t yet retained. I’d imagine he would be a great lawyer for anyone he retained.

Attorney Dixon was the consummate professional. I had two cases with Attorney Dixon, a workers compensation case and an injury case. I have been a blue collar worker for over 30 years. I was treated unfairly after some on the job injury issues and Attorney Dixon helped me get my medical bills and workers compensation benefits set straight. He was up front with me and kept his promises from the beginning unlike another lawyer I had in the past. Attorney Dixon understands working people. He has years of experience and he knows the kind of issues that confront me and my fellow workers. From my first meeting to my last meeting with him, he explained the law in clear and simple terms and was very patient. He communicated with me throughout the whole case and always sent me relevant documents and letters. I always knew where my case stood. I was being treated unfairly at work after my injuries and I needed an Attorney I could trust. I trusted Attorney Dixon and it was the best decision I could have made for me and my family. I highly recommend Attorney Dixon to anyone.

Did everything he said he would from the day he came to my house while I was incapable of walking, to personally getting back to me whenever I wanted to talk with him and not the legal aid(which she can damn near answer everything for you but not give you legal advice “legally” & she won’t bend rules which is very nice to see this firm is all about confidentiality and ethics). Thank you Mr. Barone, & Miss. Tonya for everything & fortunately I’m all healed up & blessed to be back in action without you two this wouldn’t be possible!

Deputy Attorney General Andrew M. Rongaus is a top notch drug prosecutor. He has handled numerous high profile drug trafficking prosecutions including Mexician drug cartels and biker gangs in the greater Philadelphia area. He and the Attorney General's Office handled a large scale drug trafficking case that helped put the brakes on the open air drug market in my Port Richmond Neighborhood near Our Lady of Port Richmond Parish. He is a no nonsense law and order prosecutor that really cares!

My journey through family law started in November of 95 and eventually I got full physical and legal custody in 2000. It was a long hard journey. Started out with another lawyer did not get anywhere until a friend recommended Deb. She understood the approach we needed to take. It was not fast but was effective. Men had little chance in 95, I guess being a loving caring parent was not something men were considered. I loved my two sons more than life, I would have never put them through that mess if it didn't needed to be done. Deb respected me, guided me and eventually I was granted full legal and physical custody. This could not have happened with out the kind, caring, focused , knowledgable Debra Denison Cantor. My boys are grown now I got them to go to school something that was not happening and both have become productive citizens. Deb gave me the opportunity to save them. She was an angel sent from above.

Carolyn was the prosecutor for some charges I was tried for. I ended up signing a plea agreement and I must say that Carolyn went above and beyond working out the plea. She genuinely seemed to care about both the criminal and the victim in this situation and had a very complete understanding of the facts. It was very refreshing to know that there are prosecutors in this country who truly take time to understand all circumstances of a case. She has a great future!

I had been engaged in high conflict custody divorce case for about 5 years. I am a father. Darren won my case. His mind is sharp, he is concentrated and knowledgeable. On court days he actually does not eat and looks completely occupied by the case. In a case where emotions and passions run high, it is very important for a lawyer to separate what’s important from what’s not. He almost ignores certain emotional factoids which seem important to you in the moment. Calms you down. Then he pounces on other points that are important. He’s a brilliant attorney who knows who he is working with. Chemistry between attorney and the client is very important and he finds it. The firm is very busy, and it’s palpable. Make no mistake about it. Still, some of Darren’s replies by email are almost immediate. He cares not just about the client but about the child.

The entire case took longer then I expected, but then I didn't realize all the red tape involved. Overall Dan was patient with me and explained everything in a way that I could understand. In the end all went great and I would recommend him to anyone.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
