To sum up my personal experience with Steve: I was wrongfully accused of abusing my daughter by my ex and thanks to these committed individuals, I was not only exonerated of these false allegations but Steven went above and beyond to clear my name by finding crucial facts and fighting hard for me in and outside of court. I would recommend this office to any father (or mother) struggling in Family court and fighting for the TRUTH. Make no mistake, this office provides exceptional work and does not settle for anything less than average, every penny spent is worth their quality work.

Our family lives in the Mainland, and we were in a desperate need for legal support in Hawaii when I approached Steve. During the initial consulting stages, we met several times or so to brainstorm and exchange information; I tried my best to be as thorough as possible without letting feelings come into play but in a post divorce case with my child involved, my emotions tended to come out at times. Ms. Lee was able to instinctively discern important information from the drama as we collaborated our approach to the case. She was compassionate toward the matter but when important elements of the case were needed to be brought to my attention, she did not hastily beat-around-the-bush or sugar coat it; instead, in a straight forward manner she informed me about what was at stake and the various options, if any, that could have been taken. After the initial meeting stages, she recommended that we meet with the opposing party in a pre-court settlement effort. I was definitely not in my element in that meeting, but which client really is? Ms. Lee's demeanor before and during the meeting put me at ease so I was able to think clearly. Both parties were able to settle a fair amount of issues in this meeting so the next thing was to await the court date. The court date arrived quickly and before I knew it, we were preparing to enter the courtroom. The outcome of the case achieved the end that was in my daughter's best interest. Ms. Lee had more than just knowledge of the law field, she had the ability to put this knowledge into effective action which demonstrated her wisdom of the profession.

Just to start of Jason Burks was not the first lawyer that I looked into to defend me there were several others. One of those lawyers being Mr. Tipon also on Avvo with a better review for whatever reason but he was going to charge me a minimum of 2500 without trial and with trial 7000 grand to defend me which seemed extremely steep for a disorderly. The reason I am bringing that up is because when I sat down with Mr. Burks he didn't try to beat around the bush and he said my case was extremely easy to deal with only charging me a thousand right away and another 500 for trail. So after a couple more sit downs with other lawyer I went with him the following week. Mr. Burks was extremely knowledgeable extremely attentive keeping me informed at all times. The night before my trail Mr. Burks called me, mind you it was a Sunday night, but he called to tell me that he had talked to the prosecutor and convinced him to drop the case. So in conclusion Mr. Burks got rid of all charges before even going to court only costing me a grand and if that doesn't make you employ him I don't know what will! Just fyi I'm in the military

I recently had surgery and was out of work for two months, so money was really tight. Then the bills started coming and coming, and I was really stuck and didn't know what to do. My friend had told me about this lawyer that she had seen years before when she was having a hard time with her bills. So we talked about it and I was desperate, so I made an appointment to see him. he was really nice and genuine. He gave me a few options that I could do. And he helped me through this process. It took a lot of pressure off my shoulders, and I really mean "A LOT". I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat, I couldn't think, I mean I was just so stressed ! Although it was determined after Mr. Sakoda and I communicated by email that I would need Family Law representation for my legal situation, Mr. Sakoda was extremely helpful in offering me advice regarding a Family Trust, very quick to respond during our dialog and a compassionate person.

Mr. Richard Sakoda is a very hardworking individual that has one goal in mine, and that goal is keeping his clients satisfied going above and beyond the scope of work requirements to ensure all areas of your problems are satisfied. He discusses all relevant factors about your case, gives you alternatives, and provides advice in making the best decision to your case.
In our family experience, we have gone through three -(3) Lawyers, but we were not satisfied with their work we requested. We needed a legalized Will written to assure others won't have the ability to take away assets and properties that the deceased will leave to the appointed person/caretaker. But each Laywer we went to and paid to write the Will, were not exactly how we explained to them and therefore the Will needed to be rewritten. Instead of having the same Lawyer to redo the Will, we seek another Lawyer. A friend recommended Mr. Richard Sakoda. We met with him, asked questions and he were straight-forward with his answers. We told him our situation and what we wanted done. He immediately commenced working on the issue that we wanted fixed of which previous Lawyers we went to did not do unless we paid additional fee. Mr. Sakoda accomplished the Will the way we exactly wanted it to be done and completed it in a timely manner. We are now releived that no one; especially other family members, will not be able to intrude and be disruptive in making every effort to take-away or be a part owner of properties and assets that the deceased leave behind to the appointed person.
Mr. Sakoda is a good listener with unique combination of intuitive and analytical abilities. I highly recommend Mr. Sakoda to any person seeking assistance in writting a legalized Will as he is a professional and one of the best Lawyers that provides satisfaction guarantee to his clients.

I would highly recommend Mr. Pagliarini as being extremely trustworthy, knowledgeable, informative and efficient. I have recommended him to all of my friends and family for over 20 years and will continue to do so. He treats you like a person and not a number. A few years ago, I was rear ended in a motor vehicle accident which hurt my neck, shoulders and back. Unfortunately, my insurance company was the same as the driver that hit me. The company almost immediately sent in my records for an "independent" medical review and promptly denied any further medical treatment. I was in a lot of pain and was not able to fully function in my work duties and still needed medical treatment. I was so relieved that Mr. Pagliarini was able to assist me with my case. Arbitrator Marr just completed an grievance arbitration here in Oregon State. I would not hesitate to recommend him to arbitrate any legal matter. He is exceptionally intelligent, articulate, and runs an arbitration hearing like l learned judge. In my opinion, he reflects arbitral independence, integrity, and impartiality. He is a very good listener. Irrespecitve of how he rules, you will know that you recieved a fair hearing.

When it rains, it pours, and it was “storming” in my life when I called Doi & Luke Island Lawyers. I was seeking a female attorney by referral but found that she no longer worked there. Emily, who received my call, warmly suggested that I speak with Kendal Luke, who patiently listened as I explained my situation and showed real concern.
It wasn’t until I shopped around and spoke with more than a half a dozen other attorneys, that I realized how fortunate I was to have found Kendal Luke on my first attempt. Every other attorney I spoke with after him I found to be abrupt, condescending and wary of answering too many questions during that first complimentary call. Kendal Luke, on the other hand, treated me more like a friend rather than a number, and was open to discussing any question I had. I felt at ease with him. He certainly stood out like a gem among the rocks. So, when it was time for me to hire an attorney, he was my obvious choice. But would he be a good attorney? Time would tell.
Throughout the proceedings, which took more than a year, there were many highs and lows and even times of frustration, such as that which occurs even between the best of friends. Yet, through it all, Kendal Luke and his staff stuck by me and always treated me with value and respect. He never pressured me to compromise on my values, even when I began to waver. I also appreciated that he didn’t nickel-and-dime me, as is so common with attorneys, but was always reasonable when accounting his fees. Most importantly, during the critical moments of the case, it would be his capacity for compassion that was key to representing me well. This is what drew me to selecting him, and I really feel that I couldn’t have selected a better attorney.
Now that my case has finally come to a close, I look back and am so thankful for having the team of Doi & Luke on my side. Kendal Luke and his staff often went above and beyond in various ways, so that I always felt as though I was among friends. “Island Lawyers” is a fitting name for this firm as they truly reflect the down-to-earth warmth that characterizes our islands.

I retained Kevin as my lawyer for a divorce with 2 children, property, and a military pension. Kevin was excellent. My ex-wife hired a more expensive lawyer, but Kevin took care of everything. He is meticulous, and knows the law. For example, the other attorney had his paralegals type up the income and expense statements. In my case, Kevin sat down with me and personally reviewed my expenses and assets and filled out the form. Therefore, when the other attorney sent over the paperwork, he was able to find numerous errors in their computations. H was able to get me the best result for my situation. I am very happy with the result. He is level headed and always had my best interest at heart. I highly recommend Kevin. You can trust him and he will be truthful and honest with you.

Very seldom does a person get to deal with a professional who deserves more than 5 stars! Thankfully we were able to find such a person in the sad period after our good friend died in Honolulu, HI.
We needed an estate and probate attorney to discuss and handle the distribution of the estate. We contacted Samuel Suen by email on a Sunday. He responded within a few hours and we set up a conference call for the following morning. Mr. Suen answered all our questions clearly in both a friendly and professional manner.
At the end of an hour-long discussion, for which there was no charge, I asked how we would pay his very reasonable hourly rate. Much to our surprise, he said we shouldn't hire him because there was no need to probate this particular will.
His honesty and forthrightness was amazing! We tried to figure out some reason to hire him but to no avail. Ultimately we wished him a very fond farewell.
Based on our experience, if you need an estate or probate attorney, you can't do better than Samuel Seun.

I contacted Mr. Parsons about a medical malpractice matter and doing so was invaluable. Initially, I left a message and not only did he personally call me back promptly, but he then walked me through all of the legal issues that would arise under the circumstances. His counsel in that just that single call made it clear that I was dealing with a consummate professional. I cannot imagine going to any other attorney for a malpractice case.

Lynne Jenkins McGivern is an amazing attorney and person. Her professionalism, knowledge, and hard work was a constant comfort to me during my very difficult divorce. My divorce was bonkers complicated with jurisdiction issues, restraining orders in other states, my spouse seizing marital assets, etc. When ever I told her something she grasped the severity of the situation and was quick to formulate a plan.
As a side note, over the year we worked together, she remembered everyone's name (my husband, his girlfriend, my kids, my mother etc) even though she had not met them. My husband's attorneys would mistype the children's names or ages, I hated that. Lynne never made such mistakes.
Also, while Lynne is no more expensive than the other good divorce attorneys in HI, I never felt over-billed. My divorce was expensive, but whenever I saw her bills, I felt they were justified and a very fair representation of the hard work she did.
If you are thinking about a divorce or getting divorce, Lynne is the person you want. She is a pleasure to work with and having her on "my side" was the one bright spot of my miserable divorce!!

Lynne was able to secure physical and legal custody for my children. She really fights for her clients. I was in an abusive situation and didn't know how to explain the harm I wanted my children protected from. Lynne immediately got the children child support, even though their dad was trying to get a continuance and prolong not paying. She fought for the children to have supervised visits for the entire TRO, which they did. She had a judge's ruling reconsidered and changed and did what was best for my kids till the end. Also, upon reviewing bills from other firms, Lynne and Anita definitely undercharge. Other firms here overcharge, or charge you for not working and try to blame other attorneys, its horrible. Lynne isnt like that at all. She honest, shes very strategic, and shes a fighter. I have been in her office as she works and she works quickly, writes eloquently, and was able to perceive my thoughts and concerns for my children while utilizing the law. Hire her.

I had a really complicated divorce. My wife was not cooperating/communicating. Her attorney was trying to make me look like a bad father. Our assets were partially shared with other family members. I started with someone who had a good reputation in the industry, but honestly, he seemed to have too many other cases and did not seem to want to understand the details of my Case, or be proactive.
During the course of our divorce, I did my own research, and interviewed about 3 other attorneys, all of whom came highly recommended. This is what makes Lynne different: She asked appropriate questions regarding the history and analyzed the data I had compiled. She maintained good communication and was empathic. She did not unnecessarily turf work to her employees, which meant she took the time to really dig into the details of my case. She responded to phone calls and emails very promptly. She is very accessible.
Something I did not expect, was she never mentioned how busy other cases made her and ALWAYS took the time to follow up on my issues. It was as if I was her only client. I felt like I was getting VIP treatment.
The way my case was going before I met Lynne, I think I was at least 18 months away from divorce. Lynne took the time to understand my position and speak with the other attorney to get a better understanding of their position. Lynne drafted a proposal which became a settlement and we were divorced in 4 months. I am very thankful for this because of the high conflict nature of our case, without Lynne, it would have been MUCH longer.
I regret not starting with Lynne, but she picked up my case midstream and worked to settle very quickly.

Our attorney helped us a lot and guided us when we were going through bankruptcy. Whenever the lender gave us the hard time, we call him up and tell him the situation. He would then make a phone a call to the lender or advice us what to do. Thru experience, we made so much phone calls and make complaints but didn't do anything until our Attorney will do the phone call. Yap! to make my story short, It's better to have an attorney to represent you. Having to file for bankruptcy was something I had never imagined having to do, ever. But when life throws you curveballs in succession, being homeless as a single father of two children is not an option. The feeling of failure was overwhelming and I needed a professional to get me through the legal process.
Van Shima was professional and caring throughout the entire process. I was able to easily contact him whenever I had any questions, and his office is conveniently located in downtown Honolulu. I never felt rushed or pressured by him, and always felt he treated me as a person and not just a number. Great with follow ups, and always available to clarify anything.
