You can learn from everybody who does their job well. What I learned from Rick was the importance for a litigator of getting out of the office and interviewing the witnesses and key players in a matter in places where they are comfortable and willing to talk.

As an attorney, Michael is low profile, down to earth, insightful, and most importantly, effective. I had met with other attorneys that presented a tough and flashy image and claimed to be the best in town, but I chose Michael because I trusted his integrity, capability and sincerity to do his best in representing me in my case. Michael ended up winning my case without any problems. .

I was charged with an extremely serious crime (2nd degree felony) which I had only a very hazy recollection of committing. When I was able to evaluate the severity of the charges I was facing, I was distraught and bewildered. I had called around town and spoken to several attorneys, among whom I felt varying degrees of comfort. James was working late at one of the offices I had called and kindly agreed to meet and discuss my case with me long after business hours were over. James was able to break down the case and draw parallels between other cases he had seen and what possible defense strategies would be. He was extremely candid about possible outcomes but also provided a very professional level of optimism which led to me choosing him and another attorney in the same office. Through diligence and hard work, James and my other attorney were able to achieve a “no-bill” with the grand jury, effectively dismissing my case. James is an outstanding attorney and achieved the best possible outcome while simultaneously supplying hope and a professional friendliness that was much needed during a stressful time. Upon receipt of the “no-bill”, James was also instrumental in having an item of great monetary and sentimental value that was interred as evidence returned to me. If you are facing criminal charges, I could not more highly recommend James. He was an extremely accessible source of support during the investigation of my case and an invaluable ally in the courtroom.

I had the good fortune to come across Mr. Roth in 1993 involving a child custody fight my wife had concerning her first child involving an interfering family and the state. My past experience with some attorneys had taught me to keep a close eye on both the opposing party and my own attorney. This was not the case with Mr. Roth. Not only did he keep us up to date but always initiated responses on our behalf always in line with our interests and the welfare of the child. I am proud and honored to have had Leonard M. Roth in our corner during our time of need. I highly recommend this skilled attorney.

It's VERY hard to go after an HOA. Shawn McKee represents HOA's & protects them. But, he can also go after them! His law firm has a far reach. He did a superb job in helping me sue my HOA Management company & it's Board Members! It was a success. He helped make a case with the downtown courthouse on Caroline St., and then about a year later the old bard was removed. Then, I was able to become a Board member myself! I then helped nominate all new board members & hired a different management company. Shawn turned an outdated/ shadily governed HOA into a modern/ fair-governed HOA. I interviewed about 5 of the best real estate HOA attorneys before picking him. If you need an HOA attorney or if you need an attorney to go after an HOA.. Its been my experience that SHAWN MCKEE stresses out the other side so much that they lose in court or give in to his terms outside of court.

Randy fought hard for my brother. In court, he looked like a father fighting for his own son. My family and I will always be eternally grateful to him. He kept us informed every step of the way and went above and beyond. He knows the law better than anyone in the state. Masterfully skilled legal expert in criminal appeals, he argued on paper (writ) and in court with such ease and confidence. He is well-prepared, detailed, respectful, and a strong advocate. Highly recommend this lawyer!

I've never been sued before by a boyfriend that buys gift. When I was served I was hysterical. Thanks to Mr. Dhanani he assured me that I had no worries. He kept me informed by email, text and phone. Most law firms you have to constantly phone them and leave messages. He handle my case promptly and of course I won. The professionalism of him, I highly recommend.

I would gladly refer Ivan to friends and family, not just because he was able to obtain a settlement for me. I was very impressed with his professionalism and how detailed he was with my case ie. what to expect and how he would go about meeting with the other party, and he informed me of possible the outcome favorable or not so favorable . Ivan made me feel comfortable, which was important to me as I have never had a personal injury case before.

Indrani was my immigration lawyer. She helped me get my green card thru employment (she helped me get an H-1B visa (work visa) first, then helped me change my status to permanent resident and get my green card). I studied and graduated in the US. I opted for an F-1 Optional Practical Training visa (OPT) that only granted me one year of work after graduating. I found a job and wanted to stay in the US, so in my search for an immigration lawyer, I was referred to Indrani by a friend. From the moment I first scheduled a consultation with her, she was very reassuring and knowledgeable about the entire process. She was very easy to work with, and always had an answer for any question or concerns. She explained in detail (and in an easy way to understand) how the process worked, what was required, how long or fast it would take, and all of the possible outcomes, and how to overcome it. She also worked with my employer and explained to them what they needed to do in order for me to get my green card. There were some complications towards the end due to my employer having a tough business year, but Indrani was able to review everything and put together a great strategy that worked for both my employer and myself to keep the process moving. She was always on top of my case, always checking up on me, and always looking up for mine and my employer's best interests. She was also always available any time I needed her, or at the very least, she would let me know in advance when she wasn't going to be available, but always had a backup or another fellow attorney available for me to contact in case I needed anything. Also, everyone in the office where she works, Graves & Graves, were very helpful and very friendly. I had a lot of simple questions that I am sure they get asked all the time everyday, but they were always treating me like I was the first person to ask them, and were very patient, calm, professional, reassuring, and polite. Even when I had to go to their office, everyone treated me like family, asked if I needed anything, and were always making sure I felt comfortable. Like the title, I could not have asked for a better lawyer. I definitely recommend her to anyone, she and her coworkers will work miracles for you!

Ms. Spector defended me in a case where the other party was asking for more than my insurance. She alwayys kept me informed of the case and what was happening and ended up winning the case 100% in my favor. I never was sued before and didn;t know what to expect but Ms. Spector explained everything in a way I could understand. She told me different options about how things could go and I felt like she really iunderstood the case not only as a lawyer but from my perspective and how it affected me and my business. There were a few times I could not get ahld of her on the phone when I wanted because she was in trial but she did call back even on weekends and at night and she gave me her cell phone sumber so I could call her whenever I had a question. Even though the insurance compamny is the one who paid her and she worked for I always felt like I was the most important person with the most inportant case when she was working with me

I have known Mr. Davis for nearly ten years now. We first met in private practice together at King & Spalding. Aside from Sammy being one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, he’s an even better lawyer who truly cares about the individuals and companies he represents. The bottom line is that Sammy won’t stop working until he’s figured out a solution satisfactory to you and in line with your business goals.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
