I had the dis honors of speaking with a Robin Sparks located at the Islandia office. That had to be rudest, most degrading conversation I have had with what is supposedly a professional lawyer that was recommended based on my current financial situation.I don’t know if this is for people in Lawyer jail or need to prove themselves before they can make actual funds. Possibly the only way a horrible lawyer can keep their license because I can not imagine This woman volunteered to help people with how bossy, pushy and demeaning she speaks as if your to slow and should comprehend the law and know what your doing. If you did you would not need them ☹️ no compassion or understanding for people who are disabled and struggling .I worked for a wonderful law firm for many years and I have never heard anyone at RGLZ speak to any one not the staff, nor clients as if they were dirt, below their shoes. It didn’t matter the background of the person. What matters is your interqrity, and that you try.No less a client in a bad way can be a millionaire tomorrow or know many well off people Robin lol this is sad for you..I hope your day got better or life and for me as I told you I’ll figure something else out as I did. Your apparently not to valued in your own profession.smh

Went to court with them and got a signed document by the NYS Supreme Court agreeing to a smaller settlement with monthly payments. Was told I'd get contacted by mail, email, or phone in regards how to pay. Never received a thing. After multiple calls, mind you never a call back, finally got a website and control number. Logged on to pay the amount was the original full amount. Called and got transferred a voicemail. Sent an email as well with the documents from court. If I do not hear back I will be submitting all the documentation to the FTC for negligent practices. You as a company CANNOT supercede the judgement of a supreme court that you agreed to. This seems like a scam to get people to purposefully not pay the agreed terms, so you can come after them again for more money. Update 7/31/24: I called again and spoke with a kind woman named Donna Green. She explained that the website will not reflect settlement amount, and that I only need to make my payments until the settlement amount is reached and not the full amount. I hope this bit of information is helpful for another person. Thank you for the explanation Donna Green.

At first they refused to work with me until I called a week later and got a different rep and she agreed to take the payment arrangement I can afford. You can't get a confirmation number if you pay by phone so I started making my payments every month on time online until this month I go to make a payment and the website is totally different. I inputted all the correct info to make a payment on my account and made the payment as well as took a snapshot. This was on the 5th of this month and today the 21st I received a letter stating I defaulted on my stipulation agreement and need to make my payment or there taking me to court. So on the letter I got today they have a totally different website but the website doesn't exist or it says website is not secure and tried from multiple devices. The phone number is totally different from the original paperwork they sent me as well as the website is completely different. I pull up the screenshot of my payment I made this month and oddly the account number doesn't match my account but all my info is correct. If a payment was missed then why would you wait until the end of the month to say something first of all and secondly they immediately threaten you. Technically I don't owe them a thing being they bought my debt from the original creditor and that was there choice to buy it. I didn't borrow from them so I don't owe them anything but to avoid court I decided to just pay it monthly until it's done. The reviews are horrible for this company. I called the original number to speak with someone and the greeting is now for another company. Something doesn't add up with this company and whoever is running this place needs to get it together

Don't pay these people. They make deals that you can pay this amount for a charge off that they bought for pennies. You had a contract with the original credit company not Forest and Garbage. They use illegal tactics to scare you. Just throw away any mail you receive from them cause it's junk mail. Use experion or another credit site and dispute all charge offs. You will get much further cause they have to prove you owe money which you did but not to these bozos. Also if they say they couldn't reach you it's a lie they even send out text messages trying to get a reply block them. Look up some youtube vids on this there's alot of info about the tactics they use.

This disgusting excuse of an "attorney for the child" is only in it for the money! He is sexist on top of it. He told my child to lie to me and keep secrets with him trying to get him to take the father's side. The father was abusive to me and yet those behaviors were never considered. I lost custody and am now paying child support and the first thing he did when trying to consult with him for concerns of my child's well being was my BALANCE! REQUEST A NEW ATTORNEY IF THIS ONE IS ASSIGNED TO YOUR CASE...especially women. He constantly made comments about women/moms in a negative manner. Gross!

Dominik Veraldi was assigned to be the AFC for my children. He consistently ignored the wishes of my children or reported to the court that my children wanted things that they never said to him. Both of my children consistently said this. He also repeatedly placed them in harms way by not following up on reports of abuse made by both of my children or abuse reports made by their Pediatrician to CPS. He would then turn around and call their father or his attorney the minute they were out if his office and tell him what they had stated he had done to them without their consent and despite them telling him that he would punish them severely for exposing the abuse. He did not care at all and refused to believe them despite MULTIPLE sources. Mr Veraldi would ask them very mundane questions about liking school and sports, then report to the court that they loved spending time with their dad and they enjoyed overnights, when their father was neglecting and abusing them. He was just to lazy to care or do his job. He was more busy making ballon animals or giving them candy at the visits than making sure they were safe. He was more concerned with the paycheck than doing his job. Run, don’t want out the door and definitely request a change before you take your child there one time.

Veraldi was appointed to represent my child for a custody case. I gave Veraldi countless pieces of evidence(which was brought out in trial and he caught her in 2 lies during cross) and he still recommended a 50/50 split. Judge ruled 100% in my favor and yet 5 appeals later, he STILL recommended a 50/50 split until Supreme Court granted it.

I contacted my attorney with billing concerns to be ignored. I was billed for items not needed, time that I find questionable. Expressed concerns in writing and by phone call. Ultimately was ignored since he knew I already discontinued his services he and his firm Bracken Margolin Besunder LLP in Islandia, NY over charged taking advantage of having a $5000 retainer. In 5 business days managed to charge $1800 returning only $3200, like taking candy from a baby. Claimed to spend time researching what he claimed he already knew. Took a month to return balance of retainer as if the firm needed the cash. Since retainer required I pay their bills no later than 20 days or incur late fees. He was handling this case incorrectly advising to settle a fraudulant ADA handicap case. Ultimately the exact same case, lawyer and plaintiff that filed 77 suits against property owners, I found an attorney successful to get case dismissed. Mr. Powell had no idea how to get this case dismissed. He knew how to bill for what wasn't needed and double bill for it too. I explained my concerns but he did not care, nor did a partner at his firm care at all as they both ignored my specific claims on their bill. I would not hire this attorney or their firm. He believes your money for slight amounts more is no big deal as long as he is the beneficiary being paid, his boss and firm partner (no need to name her here) was even more unreasonable. I would not spend the time to review him if this was not true. This is not personal he is an older gentleman, not much abilities and is not looking out for the client more than his bill.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
