I have been using Elder Law of East Tennessee for over 10 years and would (and have) recommend them many times. They have always provided excellent assistance and information with legal, financial and other elder care issues. I started with estate planning for my mother, and for several years they helped with navigating financial and care benefits. In addition to their legal assistance, their team includes a valuable Care Coordinator. Then as next of kin, I was unexpectedly needing to care for an elderly cousin’s estate who died and left a mostly invalid
mother in a nursing home. Complicating the situation, all her ID's, health cards, SSA, etc., had been stolen with her son’s wallet. ELET was able to assist in establishing a POA for her and estate related documents from nothing, so we could care for my aunt in her final months while handling her affairs and estate. They were always knowledgeable and friendly, aiding in various forms with four elderly relatives and their deaths. We could not navigate these challenging processes without them walking us through each phase that was unfamiliar to us. Our family highly recommends this team for estate planning prior to needing it.

My husband and I were in the middle of a difficult child custody case. We had two previous attorneys yet our proceedings were not moving forward. The contrast between the lawyer who represented my ex-wife and Sam, who represented me, was dramatic: her lawyer's idea of advocacy was to be confrontational (luring my ex to also become confrontational). She went after everything, no matter how small. She made empty threats. She did not question her clients claims and did not damp her unreasonable expectations. Why should she, she got paid either way. Sam, on the other hand, was firm but willing to negotiate and find solutions. He has a lot of experience, treated me and the opposing team with courtesy and respect, he took into consideration how a judge might rule, he did his research, he sought solutions, and developed a big picture plan which he executed, in consultation with me, in record time.
In the end my ex has a huge legal bill, and did not get more than what she deserved, and if she did, it was in consideration for our son.
The conclusions to be drawn are obvious. However, if you still have doubts concerning what type of lawyer you want, I would strongly, and without reservations, recommend you discuss your case with Sam before you decide.

Sam and his amazing staff assisted my husband and I in a custody modification of children from my previous marriage. Ultimately the modification ended in my husband being able to legally adopt my kids. Sam and the staff were always available to answer any questions that we had. They also always responded to emails. I started the modification journey with a different attorney that made us feel like we weren't getting heard and we constantly felt ignored. But switching to English Law Firm was the best decision we ever made. I highly recommend them to anyone that is needing assistance with divorce or child custody.

Although most of us never desire to need a lawyer, from time to time in our lives, it becomes necessary. Over the last year, I've needed a lawyer for two different situations that I faced in my life. Luke handled both cases for me. He is extremely competent and professional and also kept me up-to-date on any developments in my cases. He responds to emails and phone calls promptly. Recently, he needed to contact me during my work hours to expedite the conclusion of my case. Because I leave my cell phone in my purse on silent while I'm working, I did not hear his phone calls or see his email message. He called my company to reach me, and then was able to bring my case to an immediate conclusion as a result. I highly recommend Luke Durham.

Previous reviews speak volumes of this man's skills and concern for cases he upholds. He has turned a bleak and dreary, nearly irredeemable case into a hopeful, salvageable one.
Without going into too many details, I had to change attorneys and dump their mess onto Luke's shoulders. He had very little time to make adjustments and to absorb the case. This did not deter mister Durham. He took it upon himself to visit places handfuls of hundreds of miles away (out of state) so that he could 'paint a picture' and get the information he needed.
He did the work you would expect a phenomenal attorney to do. No stone was left unturned, no possibilities or options had gone unconsidered. He did his absolute best, and hardest work for me. My best interests were - and still are - in his heart. This is why he is my attorney, and why he should also be yours.

My divorce experience was a long, painful nightmare using two different attorneys. While I recognized the need for extra time due to the pandemic and court closures, my first attorney failed to respond to any type of communication. Phone calls were useless and it took me 5 email attempts to get even one response. My second attorney was more responsive to my communication, however, slow to make any moves. We ended up in court in front of a judge which was a stressful and unnecessary ending to an already irritating process. I swear my divorce could've been completed in 30 days had I have had a supportive team behind me.
Fast forward to the need to relocate out of state (like across the country out of state) with my two children and I knew I needed to find better representation. Someone who was truly prepared to fight for me as I knew it wouldn't be easy. John was recommended to me in the middle of my divorce by several people, but at that point it was too late in the case. I knew that he would be the person to turn to when it came time for this next fight because of the successful outcomes of the recommending parties.
John did not disappoint. His responses were prompt and full of useful information. He kept me informed of the process, deadlines and delays. He had a plan mapped out for me right away and made sure I understood what I needed to do in order to move the process along. He was familiar with the laws, gave me his expert opinion on what to do legally once I had moved out of state and helped me through a surprisingly quick and painless mediation process. I'm writing this after my cross country move that went off without a hitch truly thanks to John's expertise, professionalism and solid work ethic.
I would recommend him 1,000,000 times over to anyone who is looking for an attorney. I honestly don't think you can find anyone better.

If I had three words to describe John Haines, it would be professional, knowledgeable and blunt. Divorce is always a sticky situation, but John navigated it like it was child's play. He's been doing this for a long time and if you think the retainer is too much to pay, it isn't. He chews gum and shoots from the hip. This does not mean he's cocky. He's just confident and that's what you need in a lawyer. Just listen to him, do what he tells you to do and it will be all over before you know it. He really isn't one of these sleazeball lawyers who is looking to overbill for every e-mail or call. I saw my ex's financials and he got billed 3-5 times a month. I never got a bill until the very end. He's there if you need him, but check your problem at the door to make sure you really need him. Divorce is emotional. He's not Dr. Phil. He's there to get you out of the predicament you're in and if it goes to court, fight for you. I appreciated his demeanor and when you hire him, you will too.
The work was exceptional, the price was fair, the stories were hilarious and I'd give him and the boys in the office 5 stars any day of the week. Outstanding work!

I heard about Jed through a family friend who also used him as her divorce attorney. So I figured I would have a consultation with him. After our consultation, I was VERY satisfied and knew that I wanted to hire him. This was back in 2018. He required the retainer, which was expected, and used that retainer towards the expenses. He was very professional, listened to my needs, had my sons best interest in mind, and maintained his integrity throughout my entire case. Not only did he handle my divorce, custody, and parenting plan case, he also handled my personal injury case, got me the most that he could, and knowing full well that he would get his share, so he made sure after giving him what was owed, I still had more than enough to cover costs. I don’t like saying I have an attorney “in my back pocket”, but I enjoy having the relief of knowing I have an attorney or any legal matters. Jed comes HIGHLY recommended by me, and will be the only attorney I use.

Our son was charged with a DUI because he was asleep in a car after drinking. Terrifying to find out your child has been arrested. AZ met with us quickly, he set realistic expectations and helped us understand the legal consequences. He and his office kept us well informed and were always available by phone 7 days a week. He cost a lot of money but is worth every penny when your child’s future is on the line. I can’t recommend him highly enough!

The owner of apartments that border my property was negligent in maintaining his trees. The trees posed a danger to my property, including my house. Mr. McClanahan did his homework by having The University of Tennessee extension agent come to my property and assess the danger of the trees. Then, armed with the evidence, sent a letter to the owner of the apartments. I had been requesting that the trees be cut for over six months, but within one week of Mr. McClanahan's action the dangerous trees were cut and removed! Now my yard is safe and I am a fan of the excellent work of Matthew McClanahan!

The attorney manipulated his client by not disclosing cost on his end and cost for supervised visits at $400 an hour. Kids are back in an unsafe environment since attorney refused to go to court. Paid $13,000.00 and came away with nothing. My children are in danger and this attorney only cares about money and how many cases he can close in a 3 month period.

Robert and Alysha are great and accomplished what a lot of people told me was almost impossible. I sold a car a few years ago and the person never registered the car and had an accident while it was still registered under me. Almost a year later I find of that my license was revoked. I didn't have proof that I had sold the car. I had over ten thousand dollars in damages that i would have to pay before getting my license back. I hired Mr. Feuer for a unique case that ended up working out in the long run. It is very complicated but it short summary I was arrested and had my car towed while in jail my attorney sent the proper documents and check with appropriate dollar amount to KPD and TN Safety Dept. and when I finally got out I pursued my car and we were not able to locate or find a trail of it. So Mr. Feuer did his legal work and found that the officials handling the matter did not follow proper procedures and guidelines and found the responsible for my damages done. My life turned upside down 3+ years ago when the unexpected happened. Before I knew it I was talking about criminal defense and my name was attached to something I did not do. I would recommend this law firm to everyone that has issues dealing with debt or Financial disputes. I first became acquainted with Mayer and Newton about 7 years ago they were great then.
