I was involved in a car accident and from the beginning I felt the at fault insurance company was going to be difficult to work with. I contacted Rainwater, Holt & Sexton & John made me feel that he had my best interest in mind at all times & helped guide me through the difficult process of my injury claim. His knowledge of auto accidents and available coverages helped make this often stressful process as easy as it could have been. I would, and have recommended John to my friends and family.

Mr. Watson is a highly regarded attorney who practices mediation and arbitration for construction-related cases. He is thorough, fair and exceptionally adept regarding soliciting honest communication from all parties during mediation and arbitration cases. In my case, Mr. Watson was able to cut through the noise, identify why my client felt he had been wronged, and get to the very heart of the issue which wasn't actually any of the "claims" my client had raised. He communicated effectively between the attorneys and principals, and helped us gain clarity over how to possibly settle our differences. With Alternative Dispute Resolution fast becoming a preferred avenue in which to settle issues that arise under construction contracts, I highly recommend Mr. Watson in your mediation or arbitration.

I have practiced law for almost 20 years and serve as in-house counsel for a Fortune 10 company. Mr. Jaynes has mediated three cases for my company in the last two years. I was very impressed with his ability to quickly grasp the complexities of the cases. In each session, Mr. Jaynes gained insight and understanding of each of the participant's positions and then carefully worked with each party to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of their respective positions. All three matters settled on amicable terms. Mr. Jaynes is a true professional but also friendly and disarming. This allows him to built genuine trust with the participants. I would recommend him as a mediator to any lawyer for any type of case.

Allen Bennett consulted me on my product line. He knows his trade well. He gave me excellent advise. I got my Trademark through him and I am doing my copying writing through him for my product line. Allen followed up with me and kept me up to date as to my status and pushed me to accomplish my goals. I was very pleased with Allen's service. I have given his number to associates who are also looking for a Patent Attorney. And I will use him again in the future.

Steve is as good as they get if you are a good client. He is reputable, and when I asked him to represent me he checked me out to make sure I was reputable. You can trust him not to take your money for representing you on a case you can't win, and that's a rare trait in attorneys. He won't take a case without merit, and that has earned the respect of the judges and other attorneys.

Virginia Atkinson and Cynthia A.K.A. "Cindy" (Not sure of her last name) are two of the absolute best lawyers in Arkansas. They are well known around town, which is how we ended up working with them. To say the least, we no longer have the problems that we were experiencing before. We had a sorry attorney before Virginia and Cindy. He was no good at all. You can say he was a complete waste of money. Virginia and Cindy, on top of their talent, are two very sweet women. They are down to earth and fun to be around. They both are very experienced.

I have heard lawyers say those that make C's in law school become lawyers, B's become judges, and A's become law professors. Meet a former Chair for Family Law for the American Bar Association and a Family Law instructor. The man is brilliant and while he is obviously one of the top legal minds available at any price, my wholehearted endorsement equally is based upon Mr. Coplin's personal attention. Family Law is one of the more emotionally stressful practices to enter, but Barry was consistently warm, professional and extremely knowledgeable in helping my wife deal with her issue. I personally appreciate what I believe was 'extra miles' Mr. Coplin walked for our case. I am a professor myself and have great respect for the best of the professors that taught me. In my personal opinion, no judge could fail to respect the record, experience and professionalism of Mr. Coplin. If you want the best of the best your choice is clear. Barry Coplin.

My husband and I retained Milton to represent my husband for a criminal immigration matter, and not a minute too soon. My husband was arrested and charged with a crime that potentially could have destroyed his life. At first we retained a local attorney and we were led to the slaughter by this unprepared and under qualified "professional". He was not qualified to deal with such a complex and crucial issue, although according to him, he was a superstar. In the eleventh hour we retained Milton, and kept him engaged after conviction to represent my husband in the appeals process. Milton seemed to have a better understanding of all the facts at our initial meeting than the first attorney had the entire time he had represented my husband, almost a full year at this point. I wish we had retained Milton at the very first sign of trouble, the outcome would have been vastly different. Milton is very responsive, he returns calls, he answers his own phone and he knows the law. He isn't hired to be his client's best friend and he makes no bones about it, but his demeanor is such that even when he delivers horrible news you know he is solid in your camp, not playing both sides of the isle, or rolling the dice with your life. Milton is well respected in the field and he very deserving of this respect. He spent countless hours preparing for our “hopeless” case and it paid off in the appeals process. Looking back on a horrible experience and learning from 20/20 hindsight, I believe retaining Milton first would have been the best form of defense. If we had to do it all over again, Milton would have been the only attorney we needed to know and the appeal wouldn’t have been necessary. An attorney firmly in your camp from the beginning, who is aware of his strengths and is confident in the delivery of your Defense is 99% of the battle. I recommend Milton with confidence for representation with your immigration or criminal legal matters, if he isn’t the right attorney he will not try to convince you that he is, and he will be honest and upfront with you sooner rather than later, or worse, the morning of the plea deal deadline on the eve of trial.

I had the amazing luck of finding a wonderful lawyer at one of the most difficult times of my life, and I wanted to write this review to hopefully help others who seek legal guidance. Joseph Dipietro is a remarkable lawyer. From the start, it is so evident that he is so confident in what he knows and what he can do, and he exudes that confidence. His confidence is very empowering and feels so natural, and you know you are in good hands and that feeling is priceless. When I met Mr. Pietro, I had completely lost hope. I have had a lawyer for more than a year and his services unfortunately did not bring a timely resolution, and at the time any resolution to my case seemeed impossible. There was almost noone I can seek guidance from, because my situation was very particular. Then finally I found Mr. Dipietro. During our first conversation with Mr. Dipietro, for the first time in more than a year I had hope, and it is the most important thing so you won't give up. He was very positive, professional, knowledgeable and detail oriented. He gathered all the information he required from me without me even thinking about what I need to convey to him. I am not good with details, and do not have any legal knowledge. Therefore, I needed to find someone I can depend on and trust completely. In addition, I am a foreigner and I do not always communicate very well since English is my second language, so I was particularly grateful for his patience, impeccable fact finding skills and communication abilities. Mr. Dipietro is also very responsive. He always responds to emails and phone calls within a day at the latest. This in itself gave me so much peace because I knew if I needed him I can reach him. He always provided very professional legal counsel, always to the point and always with the attitude of positivity. The consistency in his services allowed me to gauge my expectations and again created a peace of mind in such tough times. In addition to his legal knowledge, he is also very kind and generous. Finding a kind, generous and with a willingness to listen lawyer is an extremely rare opportunity, and I am extremely grateful to have found one. In addition to my wonderful experience with Mr. Dipietro during the development of my case: My case reached completion within a couple of months with a very positive outcome, even if it was a very complex case. But his 'to-the-point' and focused approach combined with his extraordinary legal knowledge brought a resolution to my case very fast. He changed my life. Because of him, finally I can live in peace knowing that justice pervailed and I can move forward with my life with hope for my future. Knowing and working with Mr. Dipietro was a gift that I will forever be grateful for.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
