We came to Scott with a multinational financial litigation defense matter. Scott's team was successful. All the other lawyers we interviewed, stated we should settle the matter for in excess of $25,000,000. In the end, the matter was resolved by Scott for less than $5,000,000. Our public stockholders were amazed, as was I. We will continue to use Scott and his team as our trusted lawyers, in this crazy world of litigation.

Lee Ackerman handled our case when there was an action made against the trust. He was responsive and communicative with all parties. Mr. Ackerman was helpful in strategy and knowledge regarding trust cases and we thoroughly appreciated every bit of it. Using his services was no mistgake - in fact, it was the best thing we did!

Let me start off by saying that Jonathan is an INCREDIBLE lawyer. He really does his due diligence in helping and staying on top of your case. Quiet, highly intelligent, and very organized are a few key attributes he has. So, I hired another lawyer in the beginning of my case but I wasn’t happy with his work so I decided to fire him. I went ahead and hired Jonathan and team. The whole process is very traumatic so it is very wise to hire someone who is understanding and knows what they are doing. He answered my questions whether it be by email or telephone. Get this, he would answer my questions with specific information like dates or names quickly off the top of his head. I don’t know about you but that is unreal in my eyes. Just shows how involved he is with case. Maybe because my memory was faulty, I felt I was in great hands. His patience towards me spoke volumes of how he can handle his “cool” under pressure considering I am not the easiest person to work with. I admit it. He did very well, I am very impressed. I want to add that I care for what he does that I once stopped going to a therapist I was seeing (private insurance during case) because she had bad mouthed what lawyers do (negatively, in her mind). Not all lawyers are bad, there a few good ones out there just like Jonathan. I vouch for him 100% The convenience and services his office offers are (the following may change as I was a client who wanted to know EVERYTHING about my case): -some doctor appointments were set in office with follow up reminders sent via mail/USPS. -letters with filing dates were mailed with copies -anything submitted on my behalf was always confirmed with letters in the mail for my records. -readily available for meetings whether it is in person or by phone. -he took the time to listen about how my appointments went after each meeting. I liked this since everything was fresh in my mind and I would hope he can pick up a few things to help my case. -work with private banks for emergency loans (paid against your settlement, if you qualify). -after they took my case, I was referred to the “better” doctors in network. I wasn’t happy with most doctors I dealt with but you have to work with what you’ve got (no fault to my lawyers, I might add). Just remember, DOCTORs work for YOU. -doctor offices were close to public transportation which is important if one doesn’t have a vehicle. -on hearing days, Jonathan arrived early and fully prepared. Very important! This has been an arduous journey navigating the Workers' Comp world however I am glad to have had Jonathan and team behind me to hold my hand and work through this together. I also recommend for those entering WC to get thorough reports from doctors, list and address your concerns with doctors, journal your doctor visits (include names of people who assisted you), keep an updated calendar, keep call logs, ask for copies of everything you sign, be completely honest, and trust your lawyer. It will be a tough road ahead but I can assure you there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel. I am grateful to have had Jonathan represent me, I feel forever indebted to him. Thank you, Jonathan! L.D.

Jonathan represented me for a multi-years long construction owner versus GC lawsuit, as well as provided regular counseling on everyday business matters throughout that time. He respects the relationship between attorney and client, and has an internal policy that he does not charge for phone calls with clients. His team was just as impressive. Highly recommend.

We have worked with Citron & Deutsch for over 10 years. Of all firms in Los Angeles they really get what it is like to be an entrepreneur. They have helped me form many companies, gather investment in three companies, and sell two companies. Rick was a key part in our strategy, brining other people to the team, and helping me protect my personal estate in this process. Best Part: They believe in simplicity. They keep agreements and transactions as simple as possible with covering key parts. This keeps cost low and close rates high.

Lorena is truly an amazing person to work with. She’s very kind and extremely professional attorney that will fight for you with confidence. I loved that she’s straight forward and doesn’t leave you second guessing or unsure. This was my first actual experience working with an attorney and was left with little to no questions since Lorena seriously explained everything thoroughly and handled my whole case as if she was going above and beyond. I had a great experience although it was a rough situation at first, she fought for me the whole way. I HIGHLY recommend working with her!!

I can't express my gratitude enough to Karen for helping our family through a tough situation with our complicated REAL ESTATE case. Since the very beginning, Karen has been open with us in any matter relating to the case, always kept us in the loop on everything she was doing. I have only kind words and nice things to say about her. Karen is very caring and honest. She is a straight shooter, and well balanced. Although Karen is very practical, she has no problem getting aggressive with the opposing client. Karen is highly recommend her for all REAL ESTATE matters.

I emailed Atty. Santiago and he responded after sometime. I wanted him to replace my WC lawyer but unfortunately he refused to take the case because he said my current lawyer has been handling my case for a long time but he gave me some important advice. Last July 23, I went to my WC MSC and the dependant's (CIty of Burbank) didn't show up. I was asked by Luis Monroy (my lawyer's representative) to sign some documents on the assurance that he won't submit them to court unless I tell him to do so. Also he promised to send me copies of the two doctors' evaluation and he never did. Now I have I very strong feeling that he submitted the documents to court without my approval.

Michael Swartz briefly represented me in a matter involving possible securities fraud/breach of fiduciary duty. He was enormously impressive. He quickly and completely sized up a complex financial picture; his assessment was spot-on and his recommendations superb. I knew I was in the best of hands. Swartz has an extraordinary mind and he exudes competence and confidence. He was friendly and very accessible, but realistic and brisk. His approach was at once supremely thoughtful and pragmatic.

I have used Michael for over 10 years, mainly for Entertainment Law, but also for personal issues as well. He's always been on top of the situation, needs no prompting from me - quite the opposite; he's kept on me to make sure the key points are handled on time. He's very hardworking and more reasonably priced than most, considering his experience. Good legal counsel is often tough to find, and can vary according to expertise - Michael has also referred me to others when he knows something is outside his level of knowledge. Recommended.

I hired Jane to represent me when I received an NTA for an issue I had with my Green Card. I was notified that I had utilized a fraudulent I-94 to obtain my Green Card and was asked to appear in court to testify my case. My family and I were nervous going into this, we weren't sure what to expect, how to prepare, and what the outcome would be. Jane and her team walked us through the entire process and shared their expertise on cases like this. They assured me they would be with me through the entirety of the case and made sure I was given all the necessary information to be able to come out of the case successfully. Jane has a lot of knowledge and expertise in immigration law and proposed utilizing a lesser known waiver (247A1H) for my case. This strategy proved to be successful and the IJ approved of my waiver and granted me legal status back to the States. Fast forward a few months after the court case, and I have successfully obtained my US citizenship. After all these years of confusion and frustration with my status, Jane and her team were able to clear up my case in one swing and now I write this today as a citizen and a success story. I want to thank Jane and her team again for their patience during this turbulent time of my life and walking me through every step of the way. I'd highly recommend their services for anyone needing immigration law assistance.

My wife and I got hit with overpayment judgement from SSI because my wife had a 401k which apparently counts as resource (although the value of it once distributed was well under 3k). Anyways, we were freaking out because we got hit with 10k each charge. Yolanda not only got it squared away but got us a backpay for the months this fiasco was going on and we were not getting SSI. Absolutely grateful!!!

Many lawyers initially feigned interest but then disappeared. Mr Betinol kept responding and providing solutions to my situation. Best of all, his office worked with me to provide affordable solutions. When legal situations branched outside unknown variables, his next response impressively reassured me stating he already had an appointment scheduled to resolve the discrepancy. In a time where most businesses are out for profit and themselves, I think Mr. Betinol deserves a Humanitarian Award. Very helpful, very friendly, and very professional.

This lovely lady is great. She will fit and make time to speak to you. Not only speak;however, give an ear to hear what you have to say. Just like any busy lady she may be tied up at the moment, and at the end she will pick up your call just to not ignore you! The thing about confidence people is that they do things over and over again. Michelle will show you more then her confidence, but able to compare past cases to show what will take place threw out time. Pick her mind, you and her will cover all areas of Frequent problems that is happening with out you even knowing. Give her less then 48 hours. You will get a call back. Even a call back to recommend another friend that works in the type of case you are up for. How can you not trust some one that is honest enough to decline and forward you to the right person like that? Best review is the short ones! HA

Lisa a hidden gem of a resource and a groundbreaking leader in her field of specialty. Her entire focus is on navigating the incredibly confusing and emotionally loaded waters of maternity leave & return to work post-baby in a way that empowers working parents and parents-to-be. She is able to specifically advise on a case-by-case basis as to what exactly is available under the law to each parent, male or female, who wants to take time to bond with a new child. More importantly, she is able to help clients with strategy on utilizing available benefits and still coming out ahead both personally and professionally. Anyone who has dealt with taking a leave from work will understand how delicate the situation can sometimes be, regardless of what benefits exist 'on paper'. In my opinion any consultation with Lisa is well worth her fees (which are incredibly reasonable) since it can truly reduce the stress involved with managing those affairs as well as greatly improve their outcome.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
