In 2016, my father was incarcerated. His case was very difficult so we hired an attorney (I will not say his name) from a different firm. This attorney did not show up to my father’s hearing after he repeatedly said he was. Instead, he sent Victoria Edwards to represent my father in court. I was very thankful for her presence; however, I was afraid that she would possibly bail out on us as well. She proved me wrong. Ms. Edwards and I began to communicate and talk about my father’s case. We met in several different occasions. Coming from a family whose first language is Spanish, Ms. Edwards was very patient with me having to translate to my mother what she was explaining to me since my mother did not know English. She answered every question and kept in contact with us with. She never treated us bad, always with respect. You can tell that she really wanted to help. Because our first attorney was not in the country during this event, Ms. Edwards took that extra step to organize my father’s paperwork. She even asked us for extra paperwork just to be safe. She would say “Anything you have that you think that may benefit your dad, I want it.” Because my father’s case was very complicated we had to switch to another attorney who was specialized in appeals meaning that Ms. Edwards was no longer our lawyer. Aside from her profession, she is a very nice woman. You can tell that she is passionate and enjoys helping people. I’m thankful my family does not need her any more, but what I do know is that if I ever encounter myself in another situation relating to immigration, she is the first one I will call. Thank You again Victoria for everything! (-:

I got approval for E-2 through him. Then I went back to my country to see my family. Applied for E2 visa over there, but they denied. However, Mr Choi, battled to embassy. Battle end up with denied. However, Mr Choi filled Advisory Opinion with Department of State and awarded with in a month. I dont think this is usual. He has great knowledge of immigration law, so professional and most importantly he has a big heart. This is all I can say about Kenneth Choi. Thank you

Immigration attorney Marta Victoria Canossa and everyone at Ortega, Canossa and Associates, PLC helped when I most needed help. I fled my native country after being a victim of domestic violence. With their help, I was able to see my application for political asylum approved. I was able to legalize myself and legally bring my four children to reside with me. I have told my story because I believe it is important that other women in my situation also seek help and not be afraid. Here, in the United States, there are many protections and opportunities, but it is important to work with a good attorney. I am eternally grateful for everything they did for and I will continue to recommend them.

Attorney O'Hara is an amazing attorney! He took the time to answer all my questions and clarify any doubts I had. He explained to me my case & informed me of how the process would be, so I wouldn't be fearful. He is very knowledgeable. Attorney O'Hara helped me with obtaining all my documents from USCIS to view my file, before submitting an application on my behalf to immigration. He gave me the confidence I needed to go through with this stressful situation and I received great news, all thanks to attorney O'Hara. I highly recommend attorney O'Hara he is very professional and dedicated to helping clients with their cases.

He knows exactly what he is doing without doubts and for this kind of situations you need someone who knows exactly what they are doing. I especially appreciate his responsiveness in our times of panic, his excellent writing skills, his knowledge of the system, and total professionalism. We very highly recommend. Now she give a job working for her even thought the I never been working as insistent and pay me and she has lot patient teaching me things how things work out. She could hiring some else better with experience but she is a awesome human person whom I never meet before, she has a God heart. She is the person whom is been walking in the way with me, feeling, crying and understood person with me. I could bet my life for her because she did for me. And I know the anyone who wants help from her she is always there, no matter what can happen. Now the I'm working for her I realized how she sacrificed her personal life and health for her clients. She goes beyond then be just be an Attorney and she is more then that. I see how she gives people life back, like me and my family. I know none can't do, what she is been done.

There are too many attorneys in this world but not enough good ones. After contacting and consulting with more than different 10 attorneys, I hired Esmeralda to represent my mother's removal proceeding case. Not only was she extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and trustworthy, she is not a typical stuck-up attorney that only chase you after your $$. I found her fees very reasonable and she was always willing to help you in any way she can. I wished she was bit more responsive but I guess being a good attorney as she is makes her very busy. I am very thankful that there are attorneys like her practicing law in the world.

If you notice when you read Mr. Lall review he is getting 5 stars and he deserves it. My wife and I have a very serious problem where we hired an Attorney that screwed up our filing with USCIS. USCIS was asking me to prove that my kids mom and I were not legally married. My wife has been in USA for 3 years now with this delay in getting her Green Card. We first went to Law office of Michael Gurfinkel. He first charged us a $300 consultation fee and then asked us for $14,000 to help us finish our process. Next we did our research on trying to find an Attorney that we felt have the intelligence, professional experience and wont charge us an arm and a leg. We found Mr. Lall. No consultation fee and only charged us $1000. Within 3 weeks we had our Green Card. I would recommend Law Office of Sumeet Lall to the world. Its like looking for a babysitter that you can trust with your only child, or looking for an auto mechanic that will not cheat you to repair your car. Good luck to all.

When I met Shant I was impressed first with his professionalism, second how caring he was, third with his knowledge. I have met a lot of lawyers in my life but to find that one lawyer that you can trust and put your situation in their hands is kind of hard. I always trust my intuition and the vibe I get from lawyers and I felt pretty positive when I was done with my meeting with Mr. Jaburian. Later on I hired Mr. Jaburian for my immigration case which was a very hard one and was very scared about the outcome. The whole time Mr. Jaburian made me feel calm and always repeated that everything will be fine and I should trust him. The day came and I was so happy, extremely excited to find out about the results and if it wasnt for Mr. Jaburan I don't know if my case would have went through. Thank you so much Shant for your great profesionalism, your knowledge, your caring heart and for being human after all. I will defienetly recommend him to a lot of people and I will for sure work with him too again. God Bless

I sponsored a Mexican national under the 245(i) which started our 8 year journey through the CA and US immigration gauntlet. Ana did exactly as she promised, even driving out to San Bernardino from West LA for the interview! Her fees are very reasonable, she has payment plans, speaks fluent Spanish and she doesn't give up when the going gets tough.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
