Through out the last 10 years I have re-hired him twice and proved his excellent in knowing the law. He is a little slow at responding but is will worth it. Be patient he has a very busy schedule and is the only one in his office.

this attorney is not prepared.. he sits in the hearings and does not defend me in any way. Tells me to not say anything. yet he dont either. I give him information and he sweeps it under the rug so to speak. Not a good lawyer. All he cares about is money. not the client.

Please shut down the horrible animal testing beagles Ridglan Farms in Dane County. It has been years that exposure and violations this place has exhibitted, those poor animals are trapped in a life of hell. I will not travel out to your area because it is a disgrace. The district attorney is doing absolutely nothing!!!!! The Tax payers there in that county are very much against it. Better methods of research are out there. Your office never answers the phone so I am leaving this review It is 2024 now. Shut it down please!!!!!!.

Career criminal who assaulted my disabled sister, and prior to her, assaulted another disabled person, was released on bond by Free the 350. Although we were on a notification list, we "slipped through the cracks" and were NEVER notified. The victim's advocate replied "sorry". There was no accountability or explanation. We could not have direct contact with the DA (but the criminal could have direct access to his defender). We had to go through the victim's advocate on all communication. This system of injustice benefits the offender, not the victim. Next time, this villain will kill someone.

She was assigned to me through the court. She doe not have time for you, although she listens she can't be bothered to say what you want known and latches on to something you sort of wanted. She then tries to explain the way things work when she knows nothing about it putting you in a worse position. She will not do anything on her own and if you ask her to do it she will give an explanation as to why she won't.

Buyer beware of Gina Bosben. On first impression, Attorney Bosben seems competent and ready to help. She does make sure you understand the CPS process and the likelihood of success at any particular stage in the court process. Unfortunately, you will soon learn that she utilizes none of her legal skills to protect your rights, but rather, assists the State in expediating the process of having your rights violated and taken away. I told another social worker who my attorney was and the FIRST words out of her mouth were, "Get rid of her." I didn't have to ask what she knew about Gina Bosben? I am a product of her sad version of representation.

I second the other review wholeheartedly. The commissioner was completely unprepared to adjudicate my case, had not even read my filings, did not give me any time to speak, and strongly intimated how close he was with the plaintiff's council. An object lesson in appallingly bad judgeship.

This case was handled through the small claims court/Dane County. We did not lose the case, however, we believe our case did not receive the attention it deserved. As the hearing proceeded, it was quite apparent the attorney/commissioner did not take the time to review the material provided to the clerk of court prior to the hearing because he was not familiar with the content that was outlined thoroughly for the court. He probably would of had a better understanding of some of the complications of the case and the outcome may have been more appropriate.

This woman failed my children miserably. When she actually showed up to meetings on time, she was unkempt and full of cat fur. She ended up granting joint custody of young children to a known and proven abusive parent. She even ENCOURAGED the parent to ask for more custody time with the children than the parent even wanted. That's what killed me the most. It's an absolute shame what this lawyer did, and now my children continue to pay every single time they have forced custody time with this abusive parent. Please: find someone else to do this job because this woman is an incapable fool.

He was to be representing a family member. Had no problems meeting with us to discuss the case...even seemed reasonable with his fees and was willing to accept installmet plans. However after recieving the first 500 dollars (the total was 1500), he failed to follow thru on promises to visit his client who was incarcerated at the time. He failed to file for an appeal despite telling his client that he would send a copy of the paperwork to him. He would not respond in a timely fashion via phone and when texted he would give the song and dance that he was working in his client best intest. He is a very poor communicator and he would only contact us was to ask for more money.

Keenan is supposed to represent all citizens of the state of WI, and has a fiduciary responsibility to do so; that is his job, and what he was hired to do. He is involved in a matter where an irresponsible paralegal apparently also completely lacking the most basic common sense emailed copies of a citizen's personal check, including signature, name and address, account and routing nos., back to the individual, for no real or defensible reason, via unsecured email. The individual is currently the victim in an identity theft matter, which Keenan knew, and is thus attempting to have this egregious and inexcusable error corrected. For over a month, Keenan has not responded to multiple requests/contacts. When recently contacted, he confirmed he has done absolutely nothing to even begin to determine how to have the documents deleted from DOJ's server; his response when asked why was "I have other things to do." That is how little regard he has for his fiduciary responsibilities to the state citizens that pay his salary and whom he is supposed to represent. He doesn't deserve the office.

DO not count on being handled by a professional attorney ....does not return phone calls or emails until you wait & wait & wait.....and then you have to recall him or try emailing him again. His "billing" is non-existent = you pay the retainer ( ...we paid $500 less than he asked for in his letter-Thank God!) and not a bill or how he used your funds is received. Went on for over a year in a realtor misrepresentation dispute. Asked for the remainder of balance to be refunded since no billings ever sent to where our funds went, and the only results were his 2 basic letters sent and several of the replies from all parties involved. Do not count on Bart A., he comes across, as he takes lots of notes, that he "working" on your case, consulting others... AND to top it off, we meet him in 3 different open conference rooms in: -a bank in Monona -an office building near Monona -a different office building near East Towne First time stated he was moving into a new office at the time, yeah,,,,right. DO I feel like I was blindsided. A sad pill to swallow as he walks away with our $1,000 retainer.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
