This attorney handled all landlord-tenant affairs for my building in Jersey City, Nj. He eventually assisted me in the sale of the property with great competency and dedication. He is well versed and knowledgeable in this area.

I can only speak for the outcome of our child custody case. In the early stages of our case, prior to hiring him, he told us there was the Tender Years Doctrine that he could use an an argument in our case. Having never heard of that, and going online to Google it, found out that has not been used in many years, because it was deemed to violate the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. When we questioned him on that, he backed away from it. It seemed as though he was attentive, and he spent time with us going over all our notes. But in the end, on the most important day in court, it was like he just wasn't 'there'. He didn't much object to anything from the other side, didn't challenge the important evidence, and overall left us to flounder. We cannot speak for other cases he handles, for which he may be perfectly fit. But in our personal experience with him on an important child custody case, we felt he was a poor choice for our situation.

Please don't make the same mistake I did. I rarely write online reviews, but I hope this helps someone out. He charged me double what he quoted me, was very lost when his one and only office personnel was out, showed absolutely no sense of urgency on time-sensitive matters, and definitely did not take into account what was in my best interest. Please find someone else!

Ms. Giusti handled my very complicated divorce. She was there for me every step of the way, keeping me informed and fighting for my rights. I would highly recommend using her. In fact I have referred friends to her and they have been highly satifsfied with her services. Equally important, the office staff was friendly and responsive as well. If Ms. Giusti was away in court or busy with another case, the office staff was very helpful. Very important to have the whole 'team' on your side !

I obtained Katherine after my divorce was final. Two years after the divorce my ex was asking for a reduced alimony amount. Katherine was extremely knowledgeable and I was impressed that she knew all the details of my divorce. His order was denied and two years later I was back in court for another reduction on the alimony. Katherine has great insight on what was being done to me. She was aggressive and pointed out the honesty of the case. Katherine is understanding and fights with her heart. Not once was I disappointed with her ability to represent me. In fact I am remarried and she was able to get me alimony for 10 years even though I remarried. If you are looking for an attorney with honesty, heart, and who will fight for your rights she is the one for you. Katherine is an attorney who truly cares!

Ms. Giusti, conceided to so much, she knew what little interest in my share of the home I was getting, she was looking only forward to a quick pay day. Ms. Giusti knew that her adversary was getting paid through an unlimited stream of cash, I don't know why Ms. Giusti did not excuse herself from the case. She promised me monies back on the retainer I gave her, she not only took the whole retainer but took more than twice that from the little interest in my home. The only monies that I would have left to live on after the divorce. Ms, Giusti advised me not to contest the divorce decree in front of the judge, because of the quick pay day. the final divorce has left me very unsure of my future I work two jobs, over 70 hours weekly, and still I have more monies going out then coming in to survive needing me to spend whatever small monies I received from my interest in the home the only monies I have to live on. Ms.Giusti never advised me that if I should miss any alimony payments that I would be taken away shackled and taken to jail. How can Ms. Giusti allow such a cold, heartless final divorce be filed??? if anyone is contemplating retaining Ms. Giusti,, all I have to say is BUYER BEWARE!!!!

Edelstein was my lawyer on a civil rights suit involving inequitable wages. He entered court papers late, handed my case off to lower level associates who were not long at the firm, and dragged out my case over 25 years! He was reprimanded by a State Supreme Court judge for handing in papers late and jeopardizing my case. The case was never brought to trial - I dropped it when I retired from the university. Right up until the case was dropped, Edelstein assured me of the merits of the case and the certainty of a favorable disposition. He was terrible! I should have filed an ethics complaint against him and may yet inquire if it's not too late.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of hiring Greg for my divorce case, and I cannot express how disappointed and frustrated I am with the services provided. From start to finish, the entire process was a nightmare, and I strongly advise anyone considering this attorney to look elsewhere. First and foremost, communication was abysmal. It seemed like getting a response from Greg was an impossible task. My emails and calls went unanswered for days, if not weeks, leaving me in the dark about crucial developments in my case. It felt as though I was an afterthought, and my concerns were constantly brushed aside. Furthermore, the lack of preparation and attention to detail was astounding. During court hearings, it became apparent that Greg was ill-prepared, stumbling through arguments and often appearing clueless about the specifics of my case. This not only reflected poorly on their professionalism but also left me feeling unprotected and vulnerable in a situation that already carried immense emotional weight. The billing practices were another major issue. Greg was quick to nickel-and-dime me for every minute of their time, even for tasks that should have been included in the overall service. The final bill was exorbitant, and I felt taken advantage of during an already financially challenging period. To add insult to injury, the final outcome of my divorce settlement was far from satisfactory. Greg failed to negotiate effectively on my behalf, resulting in an agreement that left me in a significantly worse position than I could have been with competent legal representation. In conclusion, my experience with Greg was nothing short of a disaster. If you value communication, competence, and a fair representation, I strongly urge you to seek alternative legal counsel. Save yourself the stress, frustration, and financial strain that comes with entrusting your divorce case to someone as inept and unprofessional Greg.

My divorce came to an end, in the worst way possible. Alyssa DeFuria, was the worst possible attorney anyone could have for a divorce. She had no understanding of the law or the courts . Alyssa tells you what she thinks you wish to hear, gets off the phone quickly . For filing an important divorce motion with the court, she put it together the night before it was due. Sent, with spelling mistakes and information that was not supposed to be included. I would never use her again or recommend her legal services.

My husband and I first met Alyssa in 2019 when we were served with a post marital judgment case from His ex wife. From the start Alyssa was precise, thorough, and up front. Now, nearly three and half years later with no end in sight, Alyssa continues to fight tirelessly to make our case. Her professionalism is unmatched. She knows the law and will not tell you what you want to hear, rather what the law dictates will happen. We will absolutely continue to utilize Alyssa and her services and will recommend her to anyone who asks.

Louis represented me in a dyfs matter and during the case he had hit each and every key point and completely impressed me with how well he maneuvered the legal system and my 2 adversaries. I am a recovering addict, and had many allegations thrown at me from my sons mother through dyfs and each one he clearly addressed and dismissed in court. At the end of the 3 month process for the 1st time I walked out of court with physical custody of my son thanks to Louis. Our family has great respect for this man.

Mr. Moglia never calls me back or returns my emails for my DYFS matter regarding my children. He has been my attorney for 4 months and i have yet to have an appointment with him. One judgement, by the court was not given to me by Mr. Moglia for several weeks. When I asked him why he didn't tell me, and I had to find out from my adversary in the matter, he simply said "I didn't have the time". Mr. Moglia has confused details of my case, saying one thing one day and then something entirely different 2 weeks later. He doesn't dedicate proper time and attention to my legal matter.

We hired and paid Gilgallon to amend the zoning on a property. As the other reviewers said, he was enthusiastic at the beginning, it was an easy-peasy job that he would have no problem completing with a short turn around. After months and months of not hearing back from him, he finally came back to us NOT with what we hired him to procure, but something entirely different that wouldn't help us at all. When confronted with this, his language completely changed and he became nasty and threatening. A horrible experience.

Due to his negligence (and arrogance) to properly close our new home, my family stayed in a hotel for 4 days. Had he done his job properly, for which he's licensed, we could have moved into our house on the proper closing date; instead of being dealt the inconvenience of staying in a hotel (paying for ourselves). Luckily, my wife did not go into labor in the hotel! One thing is true, I can never recommend his services. HORRIBLE. It's necessary to have understanding and sympathy towards people that make mistakes because they do not know better, however that maxim does not apply to this situation- he did know better.

I can not recommend Tom Lenney or the Lenney Law Firm after working with him on our first-time home buying process. He barely spoke with us after our initial contact. Our emails were neglected. He left for vacation during our home inspection negotiation and didn't even let us know he would be out of town. Our realtor ended up having to negotiate the entire deal on his behalf. Looking back, Tom didn't add any value to the process, only frustration.

Ms. Moreira has represented me in two cases. Both were Superior Court level indictable, criminal offenses. At my first arraignment Ms. Moreira made a point of stating (and I quote) "just to state for the record, your honor, my client does have previous charges... even in another state." As she said this she nodded to the honorable Steven Rubin for emphasis. I was expecting that she would then add a positive spin like "but that was over eleven years ago and my client has not received any other charges, has maintained full time employment, etc.." But no such thing would follow. I was speechless. I asked her what she was doing, she said "excuse me?" I said, "why don't you go stand over there." She asked "over where?" I said "at the prosecutors table." I was refused my right to recuse her and get a lawyer that more adequately represented my interests or at the very least, made any effort whatsoever to defend me. The second case had allowed me more time to prepare. At one point I was going to go to law school and have been a law librarian during a previous incarceration. I'm by no means ignorant of the law. I prepared a brief for her outlining the details of the case as well as the defense I wished to pursue. I cited appropriate case law with references. The case could have been handled and dismissed by any lawyer that actually tried to practice law. When I met with Ms. Moreira to discuss the case, it quickly became apparent that she had not even bothered to read it... I asked her what she thought and she said "I think you're guilty!" What does one do in such a situation? I'll tell you what happened in my case, I got sentenced to three years in prison. The only reason I didn't pursue the matter was due to the fact that I was already sentenced to a three year term that team concurrent. If that weren't the case I would have made every effort to have Ms. Moreira disbarred. It sickens me that there are people like her that pretend to practice law. Her position is a shameful disgrace to law and justice. How she can even look herself in the mirror and continue to "practice law" is beyond me. Yes, I am a convicted felon. I have broken the law and paid my dues to society as a result. But one thing I am not is a hypocrite. Neither am I a coward like Ms. Moreira lacking the backbone to uphold the oath to which she has sworn, to protect the rights of those she is assigned to defend. Honestly, if she is assigned to your case, get your affairs in order because you don't have anyone in your court. She is more interested in assisting the prosecution and not doing anything that might upset the judge.

Dishonest dealing by both Noelle and her father Robert. They were hired to do real estate closing and were considered for estate planning. Basic uncomplicated work required is chasing them for status. But an incident that happens on their property showed their disrepute. Their negligent care of their parking lot lead to damage to my vehicle which, after saying they would help resolve - decided to lie and dodge to avoid responsibility. Shameful.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
