So today I called the district attorneys office in Rockland county to complain about the Clarks county police in Rocklin stating that they will ID everyone going through the tribute on Friday the 20th just to get home which is a violation of any constitutional rights and the freedom to travel. OK the district attorneys office did not care again they did not care what I had to say about the violation and it should be noted that they are not for the people OK they are for the police and their agencies Rockland county district attorneys office does not support the people. They actually encourage the police to violate all rights and ID us just to get home because there’s a tribute. please understand that I support the police 100%, but I cannot support violation of the constitution. please understand tribute or no tribute. This is a clear violation of the peoples rights violates the constitution and people should not have to ID just to get home.

This attorney in the beginning sounds great and he’s very knowledgeable. But he is only interested in billing you as much as you can as he can. He is unprepared at meetings and does nothing to resolve your case. I have a very simple case and it’s cost me over $20,000 so far. No assets no houses no custody nothing and it’s still going on. I would highly recommend not even walking in the door

STAY AWAY! A foreclosure was entered against me although I'd received no notice from plaintiff at all. I told Lauterbach I wanted the default vacated and case dismissed. I asked him to contact the Court to let them know we were negotiating a retainer agreement. Long story short, he repeatedly presented a proposed retainer agreement which did not reflect the plan I thought we agreed on, he delayed contacting the Court, then literally hours before we were to show up in Court he sent me an email--at 7:30AM in the morning!--"I wish you luck," knowing the Judge consistently rules against anyone who shows up without an attorney, regardless of the case facts. Sure enough, I showed up to Court alone, and the Judge ruled against me (which is another lack-of-due-process/ethics problem, but that's another story). What would possess Lauterbach to behave in this manner is a complete mystery. He KNEW the harm he was causing. Not only unethical, but mentally twisted, in my view. Protect yourself!!! Pick someone else!

Ms Bilotta came highly recommended .... I am guessing that the person who recommended her to me did not use her as legal representation. During our initial meeting, Ms Bilotta promised the world to me - holding my ex-spouse accountable for their behavior during the course of our marriage, etc. fine and dandy....sign me up. When it came down to it, I felt that Ms Bilotta was working for ex - allowing them/ their representation to make irrational and unwarranted demands for discovery documents and testimonies that they themselves were unwilling to provide. Ms Bilotta encouraged me to provide such documentation even though irrelevant to the actual divorce. The only thing it provided was appeasement to my adversary and ring up a higher bill. Phone calls were left unreturned and emails left unanswered. I had been warning Ms Bilotta about my ex's irrational behavior, but it was not until our last court appearance that she actually paid attention to what I was saying and how to disarm the situation. To this day, I am still questioning whose best interest she was considering.

By far the most worst lawyer I have yet to come across. Very unprofessional and a big liar. Ms.Watkins needs her license to be revoked. I would rate her a -100 if possible. Do not hire her !

L'tanya is abrasive point blank.! I had instantly check her and tell her you can speak to your spouse any kind of way, but not me!! I retained her services for a landlord/tenant matter in July of 2022. The case was simple! I had the tenant served through a previous service. My plan were to negotiate a surrender of the property. I provided Ms. Watkins with all the collateral for the offer and she failed to even communicate with the tenant. She sent a letter all of two sentences introducing herself. I admit I ignored the red flag of her saying she performed landlord/tenant cases despite being a criminal defense attorney as her primary practice!

Had a very unfortunate experience with L'tanya Watkins. In my opinion, she is very rude and does not measure up to what I believed an attorney at law would be. Initially, I perceived her rudeness as candor and that she would aggressively take on my case. However, time proved otherwise. I found myself given incorrect legal advice, gathering all the evidence and consistently calling her to no avail. In the courtroom, she was far too lax with the defense and seemed to work for her convenience, not my best interest. She lied about promises she made to me when it was time to deliver them.

I would sincerely urge any parent who truly cares about their child NOT to use this attorney. My daughter has had Chris as an AFC for years and for years she expressed that she loves both of her parents and that there weren't any issues. However, in recent years, my ex has manipulated her and attempted to pit her against me. He coached her to make outrageous allegations. Chris formed an alliance with my ex, both encouraging my daughter to keep up the lies. He seemed to believe her wholeheartedly despite ZERO proof. It is so blatantly obvious that my daughter is nowhere near an abused child (actually spoiled), but Chris chooses to keep his blindfolds on.

It is time for Allan to retire. He was constantly confused during our sessions. He made copious notes during our sessions but later could not read his own writing. He math skills are poor and his knowledge is very outdated. he made outlandish statement which once we were using other attorneys turned out not to be true. We eventually were forced to use other attorneys to settle our case and both of those attorneys knew Allan and indicated he was way past his retirement age. All of the $$ we paid him was for nothing. Save you $$!

He is too old to still practice law. He seemed very knowledgable and competent during his sales pitch. In court he would forget details we had discussed 10 min prior on several occasions. In the end when time came for the final settlement he was "ill" and couldn't appear. He sent a young inexperienced lawyer to sit in for him. I ended up going back and forth with my ex's lawyer while she sat quietly. Dave is a nice guy but it' might be time to call it quits when you're almost 90 years old. Don't end up in a position where you can't afford another retainer.

I sat with Barry Weiss for close to six months he’s incompetent, hardly pays attention and even offered to negotiate with my ex wife if I paid him $10,000. Once payment was received under the table to would hand the money over to her and she would let me see my son. I wouldn’t recommend him to anyone.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
