We retained Mr. Lacher for a real estate transaction in New York State. He was referred by the large real estate office that was working on our transaction, and is supremely knowledgeable regarding real estate, particularly in Westchester County, NY. Mr. Lacher has years of experience, and enjoys sharing it. We did not feel he was a "clock watcher", as he gave thorough, well - experienced advice in detail, and answered questions thoroughly. He was responsive via email, text message, and telephone calls, returning calls on weekends, while he was on vacation, and well past business hours (upon my request) at times in need. He was emotionally supportive too, sharing personal experiences, and other niceties that provided life perspective; something which we did not know we needed, but welcomed once received! Finally, his flat fee was slightly more than other real estate attorneys, but only by 20%, but if we were to calculate his actual billable time, we would have had to pay around double his rate. If there was one critique I would give to Mr. Lacher, is to avoid jumping to conclusions. There was a minor incident when he did, but the limitations that I presented were not my own; they were from a financial institution, so it was not me being a difficult client...at least not that time. All in all, he apologized, and we moved on to other work together, and hopefully many more future and successful transactions. I recommend Mr. Lacher.

Ms. Kreisberg has handled 2 residential purchases for us. Both were incredible in terms of what she was able to accomplish in the deals, structures and economic advantages. Unlike the other two reviews posted I can’t agree. She’s tough aggressive and puts the client first. Have known her since 1979 and if you’re looking for a dam good Attorney would recommend her highly.

I was referred to Carol by the realtor I was working with. When I first met Carol she explained how she had many years of experience in real estate and continued by saying if we worked together she would help to make the process painless. I was trying to get my very first home so, naturally I had many questions. I did not retain Carol and did not sign any documents for her to represent me. Carol was extremely RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. The purpose of this feedback is to prevent someone else from having the same horrible experience that I did. Carol insisted that I signed a contract without first reviewing it. This was a significant purchase, possibly the biggest purchase I I would of made in my life. So I insisted on reviewing on understanding the contract and each time she refused. On our last phone conversation I explained to her that I will not sign any documents without first reviewing and she got frustrated and HUNG UP the phone on me. When I called my realtor to inform her of Carol's behavior and how I felt she needed to apologize, my realtor said " does a doctor apologize for killing a patient". At that point I felt like neither of them was looking out for my best interest and could not work with people that I did not trust. Carol then sent me a bill for $1400 dollars for services that she did not render. Needless to say I ended up not getting the house and will need to start the entire process once again.

Carol Kriesberg is absolutely unprofessional. She was unresponsive, constantly rude. Didn't follow up with proper paper work which held up the closing of the house. She was very argumentative when asked questions. She made the purchase of the house a very upsetting and complicated process. She didn't follow up with the closing documents on the house 3 months after the house purchase. We had to acquire another attorney to work with her to try and get appropriate documents even after she was already paid in full.

Uses his knowledge of the Law to Abuse and Harass Innocent people. Very unprofessional, Corrupt, and when he doesn't get his way he resorts to Cursing, name calling and outright Harassment, even in the Court in front of the Judge and nothing is done about his conduct. File falsified complaint against Tenant to have them Held in Contempt because he could not find a legitimate reason to have them Evicted. Retaliates when he does not accomplish Invalid Eviction attempts. Has very questionable relationship with seven Judges and is able to have them give Rulings in his favor, despite irrefutable evidence being provided that he is a professional habitual prevaricator. He should have his license revoked and imprisoned for Violating the Rights of people and operating outside of the Law. He represents a Company that removed the Fire Escapes from a building this year that housed over 200 families.

I had spoken to Mr. Metrick on the phone regarding a consult for a trust that I felt was not being properly administered by the trust attorney appointed to handle my trust. Initially, when I spoke to Mr. Metrick over the telephone to set up an appointment, he was very gracious. However, when I arrived at his office, his demeanor was totally out of line. He made a comment about where I had seated myself at the conference table. He paced the room opposite where I was seated and finally, after he sat down to my left, he leaned across, looked me in the eye, and asked "are you some kind of nut?" You can imagine my surprise. He skimmed through the papers I had brought him (the trust and my parents' wills), all the while muttering to himself and to me in a most ungracious tone. I finally decided to leave and upon my exit, he again was most ungracious. I can only surmise that possibly he had received a telephone call from the trust attorney with whom I was at odds with in her handling of the trust (since I had e-mailed her 2 days before my appointment with Mr. Metrick to say that I was going to see him) and Mr. Metrick had spoken to her and had taken the trust attorney at her word regarding my complaint with her. Whatever the situation be, I would NEVER RECOMMEND MR. METRICK OR HIS FIRM TO ANYONE!! '

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
