He lost my case. Not so sure if it was intentional or it's just that he's not good enough. It's a waste of money if you ask me. Maybe it was the way that the system was set up... His ex-partner is the same.

doesn’t bring justice to POC being harassed by white women even when there is evidence and multiple confessions from the respondent. tried to defend the respondent and represent her for free then sided and abused discretion by failing to submit all evidence and tried to claim cyberstalking wasn’t in the minnesota statute when it indeed is under technology means. this person should NOT be an attorney let alone be on a bench of minnesota’s judicial branch! she took an oath to know the laws and the fact she doesn’t know what technology is is disgusting. and she is bias and abused discretion DO NOT expect ANY justice if you’re a person of color

Victoria put my child in danger. Victoria downplayed the abuse my child endured & ignored the death threats towards my child. She stated she worked a lot of hours on my case to charge a ton, yet never itemized her work. It never seemed as if she was very prepared when it came to court. I moved to another lawyer who proved abuse against the statues of MN and helped to protect my child. It is unfortunate that Victoria doesn't seem to understand abuse and the impacts that come with it. I hope she finds more training on the matter or sends abuse cases to attorneys who do. I wish she was transparent about not understanding abuse and did not take on my case.

She talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk. She can't afford to pay needed experts, has very poor judgment, and most importantly does an extremely poor job in a courtroom. Unorganized, unprofessional (wears housedresses to court rather than blazer/skirt), ridiculously frightened of judge/jury/defense...every aspect imaginable. Talks a good game while in the confines of her office; fails on so many levels. Don't let what happened to me happen to you. Looks elsewhere.

I intially met with Karen in September 2014 to discuss my medical concerns and the way they are being handled. Karen spent over 2 hours with my wife and I and took detailed notes and asked detailed questions. She advised the process in how her staff would need to look at all documentation and to create a timeline and also to find any missing pieces that could have been the result of the failure to treat my medical problem. Karen is compassionate, fair and upfront on how she will handle the case. I would highly recommend Karen and her team

This attorney represented me. After she received her portion of the settlement (suit of Dr.) I contacted her numerous times to update her about my worsening medical condition and each time she said there was nothing she could do. I contacted her almost every year and same answer. After losing my house, kids, career and income because of worsening medical status she then claimed statute of limitations was up for a suit against the hospital and there was nothing she could do. If she did not want to help me then she needed to pass the case to another attorney before the statute of limitations ran out. Then she denied that I called her. Then said she had destroyed my file, She refused to meet with me until I insisted on meeting. I asked her to have a copy of my file and then she claimed she needed a copy. This attorney did not pay attention to timeline and should have advocated for her client or advised another attorney in her place if she was unable to handle things. Because of this attorney I have had insurmoutable louses. She took her original settlement and wanted nothing more to do with me.

Don't waste your money to this attorney. I paid him $3,500 cash for my case. I have to do my own homework and find out things by myself. Everytime I asked him questions about my case, he tried to avoid and say something else like he was rushing to do other things. When I actually asked him what to say and not to say during court, he told me that he can not gave me any suggestion or idea. He cannot gave me the answer and was told that I will have to find my own answer. At the end, I lost my case due to not having enough evidence to prove my innocent. I don't recommend this laywer.

I paid him to defend me. Never once contact ed me, wanted to sit down and planned a defense. Only showed up in court and argue d so stupid ly. He probably thought my $500 was nothing. He even blamed me for not letting him know about how i was going to defend myself. I was like what? That's your job not mine. Don't waste your money ... you yourself might even do better by your self. Lucas couldn't pronounced certain words properly and that made it even harder for us because biased Rosso wouldn't understand what he was asking the defense. He was basically shut out in the court room because he was not prepared to argue my case. He was looking pretty stupid. Pathetic that a lawyer would be so I'll prepared like that. I believe he never had the intention to defend me .. he thought it was so simple that he was going to swing it in court to lose or to win. I do not recommend this lawyer. He was not knowledge ful or showed interest in me. I think he had no intention of defending me which is a violation of his license.

I engaged Ms. Spangler to represent me in an estate resolution dispute which is now come to a conclusion. Although she appears to have a good working knowledge of relevant legal work processes I did not feel she was an advocate for my position. I needed to do research into my case and found important information after Ms. Spangler accepted opposing counsel information seemingly without doing her own research. In addition as part of reviewing drafts of court documents I found that many needed to be corrected for typos or incorrect information, for example misspelling my name. I felt that my case was not a priority for Ms. Spangler. I will not be engaging her again, and knowing what I now know, would not have engaged her originally.

Evon Spangler is an attorney that pushes her own agenda, not the best interest of her client. She will not listen to you and your needs, and tries to fit every situation or problem into her preset mold. She is difficult to work with. She was hired by my firm for a simple contract issue, and she completely dropped the ball. She talks too much in a weird, fast paced way, and with a false air of authority. She gets her mind set on a certain path, and she refuses to change course or adapt to the needs of her client. She also tries ridiculous intimidation tactics in the hopes of scaring you into using her for other legal services. Look elsewhere!! The Twin Cities is littered with skilled business lawyers, and she is not one of them. Beware, as if you do hire Evon, she will seem confident and will make you feel comfortable at the start, however, do not be fooled, as it false security, and her charges are astronomical.

Mr. Frazier represented on behalf of the school board. He presented himself professionally several months before he assumed my case from the licensing board. Until the point he took over, I had not submitted anything to refute the case that had been filed against me which, largely as a whole, was distorted. I sought to present a truthful depiction of what happened, but I was advised by Mr. Frazier not to do so as it would offer no increased chance of keeping my license. There were half a dozen emails and several phone calls between the two of us. In my final phone call to him, I referenced an email that was sent to me by the other party (which I had previously referenced twice through email). Mr. Frazier was unaware of any emails being sent to me from the other party. This was not insignificant as the content invalidated key accusations from the other party. Despite me sharing these details several times, Mr. Frazier was intent on not submitting anything on my behalf--apparently unaware they existed. Disappointed with Mr. Frazier's attempt to inquire the full and true story, I hired a private attorney specializing in this area and, appropriately, took the approach contrary to Mr. Frazier's advice. While I hold no ill-will towards Mr. Frazier, I must seriously question his integrity of representing his clients; it seemed in hindsight that he was only representing the board. Following his advice would have almost certainly resulted in the loss of my license. I'm very glad I switched to another attorney.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
