Adam Yang became a Judge in Ramsey County Court, and I had the unfortunate circumstance to have him preside over my divorce trial in family court. His order was terrible and the balance sheet riddled with errors and double accounting that resulted in me overpaying my ex by more than $100k! I’m still dealing with his mistakes through the legal system more than two years and one appeals court later. I believe he is incompetent and neglectful of the true evidence presented to him, and he certainly can’t do basic math. It has cost me tens of $1000s to correct his mistakes!

Hi my name is Malik flowers you represented me in my 5th degree Csc case in May of 2017 I was charged under statue 609.3451 and I understand that was a gross misdemeanor but what I am confused on is why I had to register for 10 years when my Co-defendant took the same plea and got probation and I also don't understand how I was required to register when the statue I was convicted under says nothing about registration.

The prior reviewer's comments are spot on in every way. From her unprofessional and combative manner to her unsubstantiated accussations to her lack of listening skills, she not only exacerbated the ill will between me and my ex but simultaneously damaged my poor children for whom she was supposedly advocating for as parenting consultant. She is downright rude, doesn't discern fact from fiction, can't recall her own decisions even though she authored them, and lacks follow through. She overly inserts herself into the case matters and creates issues instead of resolving them....why? Why not? From her perspective each set of co parents is viewed as a revenue stream. It isn't about helping two ex partners resolve issues relative to the children they are co parenting, it is about the money...

Mary Lauhead at times does not see the unintended consequences of her approach towards litigation. While she can be an ardent advocate for her client, she doesn't realize her combative manner alienates co-parents and eliminates any good will. She makes unsubstantiated accussations designed to character assassinate the opposite side. I have found her to be lacking in civility, always combative, and seeks to always have the last word. She is not a good listener and has ruined my relationship with my former spouse.

Paid nearly 10k to have her represent me. Only showed at 2 mediations. The second mediation was postponed but i was not informed of this so I wasted half a day trying to find out what was going on. Rarely answered her voicemails from me and would tell me she did not get them. That was several times. Did not even try to go after my wifes company or bring up active appreciation which I heard about from 3 other attorneys after she dropped me. But she was nice enough to offer my 401k up to compensate for my wifes marital debts. I would ask for any advice on how to get through this process and got no advice but was charged for every call or email i assume because what I spent seems brutally high for someone to only show up at 2 mediations for a few hours each time and at the end of the second mediation, i was told that I would be allowed to only keep my car I bought when I was 17 long before my marriage while my wife was allowed to hide her 1/3 of the family business she was given while we were together. I am convinced that she honestly did not care what happened to me at all for the last 4 months I was paying her. I understand that it's a divorce and not all roses but she did absolutely nothing for me. The things she was telling me to agree to in the second mediation were truly insulting and I was speechless. I did not agree to anything and the letter of withdrawal of councel was just as insulting when she told me how close i was to settling. If she had her way, i would have had nothing and unfortunately i am almost 10k poorer. Before the divorce... After talking to two other attorneys, i was told I could probably do a better job representing myself and i should just go to court because i was being offered nothing by my wifes attorney so i couldn't do any worse than that... Words cannot describe how disappointed I am in choosing her. Very poor service, but had the excuses at the ready and lied to my face to cover her own tail. I could go on and on with this... But i guess I can sum it up as without a doubt, the worst money I ever spent and I plan to continue to spread the word on how I feel about her.:-(

Warning: Pass on this one! Rohr is just another attorney (court actor) that doesn't represent her client's interests in the fraudulant system. She encourages clients to participate in junk reunification therapy which isn't a therapy. It's another part of the fraudulant system and racketeering. She helped the opposing side by not securing support and not doing needed duscovery. Her work product for $350 an hour is no better than a $180 hour attorney. She thinks very highly of her self (red flag) and isn't respectfully of her client's needs. She participates in the fraud of the system and didn't truly care about fighting for what was right for me. Know that the attorneys and judicial officers all belong to the same bar which is a conflict of interest. They work together .

I had the opportunity to work with Leigh on and off between 2019-2021 and while I think she is a lovely woman, she is not a good attorney. I found Leigh to lack proper time management skills (always rushing, impatient, last minute scrambling), poor listening skills (interrupting me, rushing to get her point across), and terrible follow thru (days could go by without a response to emails) followed up by loads of excuses. Leigh’s work on my case did not produce a single positive outcome. I cannot think of one instance where she provided me with good advice.

We were very disappointed in the quality of Kurtis representing us. We wrote 90% of our own petition, gather our own MPD reports for our case. He made several grammar errors in our petition and we had to proof read everything!!! Not a good experience at all. My stress was through the roof!! I had to defend myself on my own.

Hired for contract review, with agreement to notify me of charges beyond 2 hours. Provided only oral review, which was limited in its usefulness. Requested written language changes, which I did receive, but was charged additional amount without prior notice, as had been agreed. When I asked about these charges, she was nasty and unprofessional. Further, I had to hire another lawyer to review the contract and provide the suggested language changes that I still needed.

Mr. Nygaard was reasonably priced and seemed knowledgable and was very responsive in the beginning of my case. However, that didn't last. He does not answer or return calls or follow up on things, or he takes weeks to respond to inquiries regarding my case. He has done nothing on my case in 8 months and we are over a year into it. It's very frustrating not knowing the status of my case and want it resolved once and for all. I may have to hire another attorney to finish if he doesn't get back to me soon.

My name is Tony Nayenga and I’m writing you because I was involved in a slip and fall accident at Christ Tempe Apostolic Church in Roseville, Mn on 2/5/20 where I broke both of my legs, suffered a DVT/PE & 3 seizures because of the TBI at the fall. I did not call the police right afterwards to investigate but I called an ambulance later. The insurance company, Brotherhood Mutual waited 2&1/2 years later as Sylvia Zinn was their attorney took a sworn deposition and now they denied my claim on a technicality. I have no recourse as judge Patrick Diamond granted a motion to dismiss on their behalf. Subsequently I have many hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills with new medical ailments and no recourse or means to pay them. I need help.

Not aggressive, extremely high priced, not result oriented. Slow to no resolution. Nice guy, seems honest, but charged sky-high fees for doing very little. Bills by the hour and seemed to be a lot of unnecessary billing. Works at a large firm where I believe he is a partner so I am certain there is increased pressure by other partners to increase billing regardless of the outcome or if work is even necessary. Very dissapointed to say the least.

I do not feel the this man represented me with vigor. He seemed reluctant to engage the other side on my behalf. This allowed several small, but significant, errors to be perpetuated causing a negative mischaracterization. I feel things would have turned out better if my representation was more aggressive.

This is the most unprofessional Lawyer I have ever used. He has no basic manners, always tardy, scruffy looking and never on time. He has no secretary yet he never picks his calls when you call his cell phone. He also never returns calls. When you send him an email, he hardly responds and if at all he does, will respond after a week. The only thing that Bobby Sea is interested in is MONEY. He doesn't care about you or your case and has no regards whatsoever for his clients. The man is a complete JOKER. I still dont know how he passed Law school

They're hungry for your debt collection. They're angry while they talk to you. They call you non-stop and try flooding you with mails DEMANDING you to pay. They threaten you in your phone conversations and by letter mail. But when you try to send them an e-mail, they don't exist. When you call them, they don't know you. When you try to seek help with payment while living in this pandemic, they don't care. What a shady debt collection company. All you guys do is work from home and get paid while Americans are struggling to pay rent. I hope you guys bankrupt and get debt collected as well.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
