As his client in three different cases, Mr. Corrigan listened carefully to my concerns, in one case a probate issue, in the others, potential real estate investments. In every meeting, Mr. Corrigan's competence was clearly evident, as was his consideration of all my concerns. In every case, he went beyond my and my family's expectations in providing me (us) with straightforward guidance. Being as objective as possible, I simply cannot speak highly enough of Mr. Corrigan's empathetic, expert guidance.

In 2010 I ran into a mess with my landlord who I attempted to take to small claims. I never recieved a letter notifying me of the setting and ended up with a judgement against me. I called Allen and he saw me within minutes. Although I was prepared, I was not familiar with court procedures and rules. He took my case even though the chances of winning were slim to none. Landlord/tenant cases are difficult. Never the less, we settled and I got everything I lost and then some. Now Allen represents me in family court. I would never hire another attorney ever again. He has repeatedly proven his knowlege and skills. I have never been dissapointed with his performance, feedback, or communications. Even though you may not get everything you want (at no fault of your defense) you can rest assured he will make darn sure your not pushed around, mistreated, and left confused. I know attorneys can not gaurantee an outcome but as a client I can assure you Mr. Allen Cazier is not in business to make a buck or two, he's dedicated to his clients and making sure justice is served. Do yourself a favor, stop stressing, quit wasting money and call Allen. You will only be dissapointed if you don't. Take it from me, I am not a person who writes reviews... ever! I only wish the best for every one and Mr. Allen Cazier is simply the BEST.

I would like to thank you. You are a great lawyer and attorney, and the staff at your office are awesome. I have hired other attorneys in the past to help me with my case but no one stood up for me and rocked like you did. When I walked out of the court room in the past I felt like I lost. My ex she won again and again and again. Bertha ended that and instead of playing defense at court Bertha was on the offense the whole time, and the Judge saw right through my ex’s lies finally.

I myself am an experienced criminal defense/personal injury lawyer that encountered a real estate issue in my personal life. Even though I myself have litigated cases for clients involving real estate and construction law, I knew I needed top notch attorneys representing me. Sherry Barnash of the Coquat Lawfirm prevailed for me. I never realized how daunting it is to pick an attorney since I always did any legal work myself. Ms. Barnash and Justin Coquat met with me in their office at 281 Near Evans Road. They attentively listened to my case and laid out a very skillful plan. I was up against a huge real estate company and was able to win 100%. The win was done efficiently without me or my wife going through a nasty lawsuit. This is a big deal for me because for insurance purposes it is frowned upon if an attorney is personally ever a party to a lawsuit. Sherry meticulously reviewed the very 1-sided contract that I signed and devised a plan to assist me in not only address my concerns with that company, but also to get them to agree to cancel the contract. I believe this would not have been possible without her expertise. She was very responsive to emails and phone calls. This was extremely comforting to know she cared about my case. She prevailed and because of her hard work I received all my money back that I had invested in this real estate project. I am forever indebted to her and I will not only refer her business but also call her if I am ever in a similar situation. Thank you Sherry!

I went to see Ms Dumont for a consultation. Ms. Dumont, WILL NOT LEAD YOU ASTRAY. She seemingly knows the employment law and is honest enough to tell you when there are no laws to protect you. Yes, there is a charge of $100, but well worth it for the knowledge and definitive answers she provides. SHE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE AN "AMBULANCE CHASER" and that is not what I was seeking. I appreciate her patience with hearing my challenges faced on my jobsite, she was able to decode and blatantly advise me that TEXAS has NO employment law to protect American workers who are clearly demeaned and cursed out very disrespectfully on the jobsite, while working 17 hours continuously and have your superior charge you irate and specific threats of bodily harm. Thank you Ms Dumont for your time and patience. God Bless Kala Dumont and Thank you. Ms Dumont .... She heard me, understood, was empathetic and yet at the same time informed me there are NO laws to protect an EMPLOYEE on the jobsite. I think she hated telling me the laws more than I cared to hear them. She does not let you walk out without feeling that she understood and she was there to help me understand the TEXAS Employment laws. She gives no false context and is a sharp individual well versed in Texas laws and in doing the right thing!

After working with another law firm to handle my divorce I was really worried about trying to go back in amend my child support agreement. The previous law firm I worked with nickled and dimed every cent they could from me and left me feeling hesitant to contact them for fear of an outrageous bill for the week. Jennifer was a plesant surprise and has supported my case and handled all of my questions without making me feel like a stopwatch is ticking. My case was handled quickly and efficiently and she lived up to my every expectation. Every call and email was returned same day. I highly recommend this lawyer and would contact her in the future if the need came up.

She steered me through a Trust after my father’s death. It was fraught with anger, unreasonableness and inexperience. She handled it so perfectly, with so much grace and professionalism, that the unreasonable beneficiary was almost nonexistent to me. She knew precisely how to handle the trust issues and made me feel safe and secure at all times. She handled everything with such perfection that now she will be updating our wills. If you aren’t using Ashley Ressmann Gray, you are not using the best in town.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
