I have had an excellent experience with CCL and Ms. Choi in the matter of a complicated easement / title situation. The office staff was super responsive, appointments were scheduled quickly and in collaboration with my schedule/availability, and the meetings I had with Ms. Choi were focused, organized, and super productive. I felt that Ms. Choi was prepared for the meetings, understood what I was dealing with, and discussed with me multiple options and potential outcomes regarding this legal matter, which is going to end up in Court. I could not have asked for a better attorney for my situation (and I have consulted with others prior to CCL) and I very much look forward to my ongoing work with CCL and Ms. Choi. I recommend CCL and Ms. Choi wholeheartedly!

I arranged a meeting with her to discuss immigration matters and seek professional validation of the process I had completed on my own. Unfortunately, during our reunion, she seemed more focused on protecting herself than genuinely assisting me. However, when I attended my USCIS appointment today, everything was in order, and the concerns she raised did not materialize. It was a stressful experience unnecessarily.

I did not have a good experience with the law firm. My main issues is that Boyoon Choi would repeatedly interrupt me and cut me off before I could finish speaking and there were some mannerisms like scoffing (in a subtle but noticeable way) that came off as pretty condescending and I received a general negative feeling from the tone of voice she used with me. She was also 6 minutes late to our Zoom meeting but cut our 30 minute meeting short nonetheless so we really only had 24 minutes together. I'm sure she would probably bill the time for 30 minutes to my MetLife benefits and not the 24 minutes that I actually got. The way I see it, if a client does not have the correct understanding then inform them in a respectful way. Trying to be subtle with mannerisms like quietly scoffing or responding with a negative tone, one that felt a bit indignant towards me feels less like you're working with someone that's trying to advocate for you and more like you're talking to someone that's trying to take out whatever stress she may be having towards you. It seems that no wonder her staff seems to sound a bit on edge over the phone as I can imagine what it can be like to be subjected to that over time. She also knew that my home is in Snohomish County but told me that she can't help with the eviction process in that area, but took my money through my MetLife benefit anyway. That's pretty messed up. Lastly, I also felt it was problematic to be told that she did not know the RCW that covered why a 90 day notice to vacate due to sale is not enforceable unless it is specifically mentioned in the lease agreement. When I requested clarification for her to specify how is this the case, she could only tell me it's part of the general landlord tenant rights that a lease agreement has to specify that an early termination can take place due to sale and that this language would not be specifically mentioned due to it being covered under the general umbrella of tenant rights. However, RCW 59.18.650 clearly states it's permissible for a landlord to end a lease agreement early with cause for the purpose of selling a home. Boyoon Choi should really be careful with giving advice that she clearly does not know the basis for. It is concerning when you ask for the RCW that she does not know it, and scoffs at you while mentioning it's part of the general rights for a tenant. Anyways, here is what I was told by another source about the permissibility of ending a lease early to sell the home: In Washington State, typically, if a landlord provides a 90-day notice to vacate for the purpose of selling the property, this is generally considered lawful. In Washington State, the enforceability of a 90-day notice to vacate due to the sale of a property typically does not require a specific clause in the lease agreement stating that sale of the home entails the tenant moving out. The standard process allows landlords to issue such a notice as part of the rights to dispose of their property, assuming other legal and procedural requirements are met (e.g., proper notice period and service). Lastly, she was also incorrect about my MetLife legal benefit. She said I don't have benefits for litigation as part of my benefit but in my MetLife portal it clearly states: "This service covers the Participant as a landlord for matters involving leases, security deposits and disputes with a residential tenant. The service includes attorney services for the eviction of a tenant up to and including trial."

I went and met Mr. Anderson for a free 30 min consultation regarding professional negligence, he had no problem spending quite a bit more time discussing the details 2+ hours he spoke with me. I left feeling appreciative and optimistic, he kept my paperwork to look over the holiday week, just to familiarize himself with my case. Awsome rite? Wrong..... after 6 months of numerous emails and voice messages, I finally caught him by phone to make a follow up appt. He offered no explanation for the non-communication, and that appt he set never happend. Now its been another 6 months (over a year now total) Ive called and emailed repeatedly with no response. Last week I called from a private number and he answered ...scheduled a time for me to come meet him to get my documents. The morning before we were scheduled to meet I spoke with him again and he asked to reschedule, saying he was having breakfast with colleague of his who was interested about my case the next morning and wanted to have the paperwork to show him. Well .... I guess after so long of not hearing a word from him I shouldnt have agreed to reschedule, needless to say I didnt hear back from him and he surely hasnt responded to emails or calls. He seemed genuinely interested in my situation I really didnt expect this type of conduct- Im obviously mad...

A woman blew through a yield sign and totaled my car. I had a concussion and my right tibia was dislocated top and bottom and the knee cap was jammed up and into the bone. Excruciating injury that incapacitated me for seven months before finding someone who correctly diagnosed and re-set the bone. My entire life world imploded because I couldn't put any weight on it, or walk... I would wake up screaming when I flexed my knees in my sleep. I went through all my savings just trying to pay bills while being unable to work.. When the time came for a settlement I was told to suck it up buttercup, because " nothing is ever going to compensate you for all that pain and suffering". When the time came to settle the case, once I paid myself back for all the financial losses directly related to the accident I got less than five hundred dollars; I was advised to settle due to my "financial distress" which I was only in because I had been injured! All I was asking for was something fair, and I did not get it. My feeling was that he was in collusion with the other party's insurance company. Ironically I liked him personally, I just would not hire him again. Without an attorney I would have received nothing, with him it wasn't much better. And I'm sorry to say this. For five thousand dollars I expected more.

We were referred to Ms Redinger by a friend who had already used her services and was satisfied. We hired her to set up wills and estate planning. Things started quite well, but then she abruptly dropped us as clients when we asked a basic question she had difficulty answering. We're not confident in an attorney who is unable to provide clear answers about something (in this case a Trust) they're supposedly very familiar with. And we're put off by an attorney who quits when the first snag comes up.

I spoke to Denise Redinger on the phone on a Friday afternoon about getting help with real estate-related paperwork that had to be completed before I could sell my house. She said she could help and told me she could prepare the forms over that weekend. I paid for the service then in good faith. Two weeks passed, and I hadn't received the forms in the mail or heard from her (although I did receive an invoice for the charges to my credit card). I called her office twice after that to request status and was told both times that she wasn't available but that she would be given the messages. She never returned my calls. The third time I called, I was told that Denise had said to this person that if I called, to tell me that she would have the forms done that day. I said that since she told me she would have them completed by a certain date and hadn’t, and I hadn't heard from her, I couldn't really believe what she said, and I requested a refund. When I received a copy of the refund transaction from one of her employees via email (who had copied her on the email), I replied and relayed my disappointment. Denise replied and claimed there had been a series of misunderstandings (I don't know what they were; she didn't say), then lied and said that when I called the third time, I was actually told that the paperwork was done but that I said I didn't want it. She also claimed she would email me the forms for free and never did. Instead, she mailed them, and they were incomplete. I had to wait three weeks to find out that the service I'd paid for wasn't performed, thus delaying a real estate transaction I needed to complete. This lawyer also lied and didn't think it was necessary to explain why she had given me a completion date but failed to meet it.

Things that are important to ones soul sometimes require legal representation and this can be problematic because law and the representation of the law do not always have the finesse, heart and honest purpose that are required to resolve difficult and familial issues, so I feel particularly blessed to have found such a capable and professional legal representative.

Mr. Kerruish has represented me in multiple, occasional matters over more than a decade and has facilitated resolution of matters in collaboration with counsel in other states. His analysis is sharp, his arguments are well-formed and well-put, and in court he has presented on my behalf--and prevailed--with clarity and simplicity. He is my first call on legal matters (and doesn't hesitate to refer to others if more experiences in a particular situation) and is recommended without reservation.

I have hired David Kerruish on several occasions and so have been his client, and have also been his co-counsel on several cases since the late 1990s. He is first choice when I am hiring a lawyer because he is not only experienced in several areas of law, he is reliable, ethical, and quite effective in achieving the results we want. I refer David to people often, without hesitation. He is one of the best lawyers in town.

David is without a doubt one of the worst attorneys I have ever encountered. He is painfully inept at legal argumentation and analysis. He failed to draft motions that would have expedited an informal resolution of the matter, which is what I wanted to achieve. Rather than try to facilitate an informal resolution, David sought to bill me for work that would only be necessary if the matter went to trial.

This woman fits the stereotypical selfish, angry attorney. The worse she can make a situation by increasing conflict and misadvising, the more money she makes. She consistently told me I would get 80% of assets and far more in alimony that it turns out was reasonable. It's a 50/50 state. What was she doing? No wonder my ex didn't settle without a fight. I didn't see at the time what she was doing or realize that her advice was leading this way, but there's no doubt at all that it did. She helped me feed off the anger and conflict as though I was winning something... She instigated my ex's attorney into fights over things that seem more about Ms. Colberg's sick enjoyment or getting more money for me to pay her with than anything. She nearly bankrupted me and almost cost me my house. In the end, I not only lost every penny of what would have been my settlement to HER (over 100k), but had to take out loans to cover leftover costs. She's the only person who won while I and my children are left starting over from less than zero. The whole time she promised I would get attorney fees. In the end I did, covering less than 5%. I understand that in a divorce you may wish to destroy your ex or take the stance that "if I can't have it, nobody can." Please don't. If you do want to lose everything, call Ms. Colberg. She'll be glad to take all the money off your hands where you, your ex and your children don't have to worry about it.

Laura handled my case in King County and I was grateful for her expertise and beneficial advice. She walked me through all of the intricacies and challenges with compassion and the aggressive attitude I lacked as I was going though medical challenges. Since finding hidden assets is critical to a fair settlement, she advised on ways to ensure discovery. She kept me informed during service of papers so I could be away from home during that volatile time. Sensitive to my fears and concerns, she arranged a mediation that was not face-to-face conducted by a knowledgeable and experienced mediator who would not allow the bulldozer approach my ex was taking. Because of her close attention to detail, I received an additional 25% in settlement money that I didn't even think was possible. She would answer every email I sent her, and had her assistant do many things to keep my costs down. I appreciated her attention to my budget concerns. I consider Laura worth every penny I paid her and more!

He lacks the capacity to represent you adequately. I would rate him poorly if given the chance. He consistently disregards input and shuts down communication. My case suffered greatly under his handling. He appears unprepared and fails to grasp the essential facts, often succumbing to emotional manipulation by opposing counsel. His personal emotions clouded his judgment during my proceedings, leading to disastrous outcomes. His ego takes precedence over the client's best interests. He initiates unnecessary legal actions without consulting you and charges for them. He fails to go through the documentation with you before filing and assumes the client will accept it without discussion. His credibility is questionable as he frequently resorts to dishonesty. His team mirrors his incompetence, displaying a similar lack of responsiveness and attentiveness. Despite his overestimation of his abilities, he falls short in competence. There's much more to say, but I'll refrain. His incompetence resulted in significant financial losses for me and he consistently deflects blame onto others and refuses to take responsibility for his actions.

There are so many daunting tasks involved in a personal injury claim but Andrew and Debra render their support and guidance in every single step I should take. Andrew and Debra provides a lot of transparency in terms of the case progress, and are responsive all the time. Andrew also step up to fight for our rights disregard the monetary amount, and the case was settled in a surprisingly short period of time. I would definitely recommend Andrew and his team to anyone who are in need.

I was blessed to have had Scott represent me during my L&I claim, while he was at another firm. There are NO words to express how much I miss him. The L&I system is very broken. Someone like me is not treated well by self-insured employers third party administrators. (it's a long story). However, when communicating with Scott, he ALWAYS made me feel like I was cared for, that I mattered, and he believed in me. The comfort he gave me throughout the time I was blessed to have been working with him, goes unmatched. I was someone that felt defeated. I was beyond depressed to the point of not wanting to not be on this earth anymore and truly in a state of confusion/struggle. But, the moment Scott would get on the phone with me, it was clear he cared. I felt it! Scott was a great listener. And was great at helping me understand what to expect. Which eased my mind. Feeling as if you are being heard is vital and Scott ALWAYS made me feel that. I MISS HIM SO MUCH. SOOOO, MUCH! My case has gone downhill since he left. I feel like I have no one truly advocating for me anymore. Scott if you are reading this.... THANK YOU for the time you gave me. There truly are no words to express my gratitude for how you made me feel. You gave me strength when I felt beyond drained. You gave me hope when I felt the system was just swishing me like a bug. You made me feel HEARD and that is priceless. Be well and know you are MISSED!

Karen and her staff were not only amazing with the expert legal support, but they were emotionally supportive as well, which is huge when your life feels like it has fallen apart after a serious accident. I'm hoping I don't need her for the same type of legal help in the future, but if I do, she is the first one I would call. I think one of the things that separates Ms. Koehler from many other attorneys is that she truly cares about her clients. She felt more like a friend than an attorney, and I have kept in touch with her for the past three years since my case went to trial. Karen's amazing assistant, Anne, also worked hard to get my medical bills reduced quite dramatically, from $45,000 to less than $30,000. Great lawyer, great team, awesome people!

You know that she genuinely care about you. She followed thru on what she told us, about her qualifications as a lawyer. It's hard for me to trust anyone but she gained my trust. Ryan Carson reviewed an employment contract for my wife and me. He did so promptly, professionally and thoroughly. I was impressed by the balance he struck between a rigorous fine-toothed-comb approach and a global "what does this mean" assessment. He explained technical matters in clear language for our lay ears.

I had a business matter I needed help with. Janelle was prompt, professional, but also very caring. She exceeded my expectations when it came to communication, empathy, and results. Janelle will be my “go to lawyer “for any legal matters I may have in the future.

When I hired Ms. Bailey, I wasn't sure what to expect. I never had to work with an attorney before. She got everything resolved quickly and better results than I expected. I would recommend her for anyone who needs a lawyer.

Edward (Ed) Moore was referred to me by an attorney I had been working with. He thought Ed Moore could and would do a great job for my malpractice case. After speaking with Ed from across the state on the phone, I had much respect for him due to his professional mannerism; he listened and understood my case, my frustration and my pain. I then drove to the other side of the state to meet him. (Distance was not an issue working with Ed, he made it easy by email and phone). Ed was very thorough in understanding my case. Ed asked and heard everything that was important, not only to me but for the case itself. Ed was very clear on his communication, detailed in his tactic. I never had to second guess or ask for clarification, as I had never gone through this type of legal battle before and Ed made it so easy and clear for me. Ed was a great negotiator and led me by the hand to a great successful outcome. I would use Ed again in a heart beat and would refer him to anyone in need of a great attorney in the Seattle and surrounding areas.

I have used Doug for numerous life issues from personal injury, business and estate issues. I have also sent Doug other clients who where friends of mine and they too are satisfied with his work and results. I have known Doug for more than 25 years and I never hesitate to pick up the phone and ask him questions even if I have not spoken to him in 3 years. He ask about my family, he ask how is the career going etc. Then we get to business. I enjoy his questions asking process and a good sense of humor along the way. I strongly recommend Doug as attorney who also has become a friend I can trust when trust s the main thing you are asking for in a time of need.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
