I worked with Ryan on a personal injury case after getting in a car accident and was 100% satisfied. Ryan was incredibly thorough, investigating all components of the case including recently changed local laws that were pertinent to the case, as well as exploring multiple long shot strategies for recovering as much in damages as possible. Though my case was not worth a huge amount of money, I felt that Ryan dedicated a significant amount of time and attention to it and treated mine as well as he might have another case worth many times more. Most importantly, Ryan is upstanding and operates in a highly ethical and moral manner. As a complete novice to the legal system, I always felt confident that he would ultimately work in my interest and defer to my needs, even if it might result in him getting paid less. In discussing fees and why I should work with him, he was very transparent and I felt that he was giving me the full picture of his work and explaining his value without trying to sell me on something or take advantage of my ignorance about the process. We reached a conclusion that I feel very happy with and though the case has closed, I know he would also be fully willing to help should anything related arise in the future. Working with Ryan gave me full confidence and peace of mind during a stressful time. He is efficient, ethical, transparent, thorough, a good communicator, as well as personable and easy to get along with. I always felt like he was my advocate and had my best interests at heart, had confidence in the qualify of his work, and I highly recommend his legal services.

Cassandra was incredible to work with, I can't state that enough. Being in a position where I needed to hire counsel to represent me was extremely difficult. I wasn't sure if I actually had a case, if my case would even be worth pursuing, and was honestly overwhelmed and drained. I was originally referred to Sue Huhta at Outten & Golden. I spoke with Sue, but her price was a bit high and she referred me to Cassandra. I was a little hesitant but after just one call I was already relieved. Cassandra walked me through the entire process, and explained in detail what my case would look like and continued to ask me how I wanted to proceed throughout the entire process. She negotiated and wrote on my behalf, and was always patient, fair, and objective with what she advised. During the process it's hard not to be completely overwhelmed and feel hopeless but Cassandra made the process much smoother as she took control and handled the suit on my behalf. Cassandra not only got me a much higher settlement then I had expected but she also put in the work so that I didn't have to. She made an incredibly frustrating process significantly better, and I'm grateful to have had Cassandra represent me in this process. I can't give a higher recommendation for an attorney.

40 years ago we were housemates and he was as fine a human being as you'd ever want to me. Bright, good-natured, generous and reliable. He was wise beyond his years. Those qualities were so imbedded in him, it seems very likely that this holds true today.

About 100 armed government agents descended on our several locations early one morning with search warrants in hand. They later claimed to have found enough to shut down the company and put the officers in jail. Over the course of the next year, Mike was there for us whenever needed in phone conferences and in person. He stayed in very close contact with the government and was able to head-off many undesirable outcomes during the year. For us, this was among Mike's most valuable assets-knowing who to contact on the government side and making the most of those contacts. He got our side fully prepared for various court appearances and was almost solely responsible for a much more favorable outcome than anyone had predicted. We have dealt with other law firms, and in our opinion Mike is and his team are at the very top of their profession. Mike has absolutely cracked the code on how to get the very best possible deal that could ever be obtained from the government, so the company's officers still have their freedom and the company is still in business. Mike has an incredible breadth and depth of experience on both sides of the law and uses it to its full extent to get the best outcome for his client.

Mr. Spies provided outstanding legal counsel. Having never required legal representation before, I did not know what to expect, and given the seemingly limitless scope of the investigation, we had to be prepared for anything. Mr. Spies spent a significant amount of time with me, going over evidence and other materials, and represented me very well during my testimony. I felt exceptionally fortunate to have such a committed and profressional advocate as Mr. Spies and was grateful that he was able to serve as my attorney.

Mr Riley is charming, bright, driven, determined, and insightful. I worked with him for five years at an international energy company based in Virginia. He is never late for a meeting. A great co-council for any major deal because he has amazing listening skills. We worked with many outside lawyers on our very large transactions. The transaction size was several hundred million dollars. It is challenging to move large deals ahead due to the many complications that will surface along the way. We did not have deals fall apart. I would advise anyone considering hiring him to rely on his impeccible judgement. I would be thrilled to hire him or work with him again.

Peter Grenier, I have used over a dozen different attorney's over the past 20 years and finally I found the best! This man is to be feared! Peter slaughtered my last opponent who unrightfully attempted to sue me. I just called him again today over another pending issue and I can't wait to see him in action. I almost feel bad for any one who goes up against him, but I'll get over it when I'm counting my money!

I am very happy that I hired Andrew Hysell of LawtonCates to represent me in the sales of my gas stations and convenience stores. My stores were family-owned for three generations and a great deal was at stake—both personal and financial. Selling gas stations and convenience stores is highly complex, involving a variety of legal, regulatory and commercial factors. Andrew and his firm had the capacity to address each one. During such a complex sales process, there is a steady stream of challenges that can threaten the deal if not properly resolved. Andrew represented my interests effectively while simultaneously finding opportunities for building consensus to keep us moving forward. Based on my experience with LawtonCates, I highly recommend Andrew’s representation for complex business transactions.

We're widely industry respected and IPLL has been with us since the beginning. They have handled a significant portion of our complex biotechnology and mechanical related patent matters. They are also attending to all of our trademarks as well. The work quality and attention we have received is of the highest caliber, and it was important for our VC funding & reputation. I would definitely recommend (highly) their managing partner Cameron Tousi and his entire IP teams to my professional colleagues and friends!

If you are looking for an Attorney that has your best interest at all times during your case. Look no further because Mr. Cammarata is who you want leading you through the craziness court cases can be. He has the experience of arguing before the Supreme Court to handling smaller cases like a pedestrian being hit by a taxi cab. Is involved with his community volunteering and organizing blood drives, & was one of the first Attorney's who became concerned with youth athletics and concussions giving a caring voice to his own community. When I think about what I had to go through with my accident, I feel so very lucky and fortunate that Mr. Cammarata took on my case. I can't thank him enough.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
