As a person who prides himself on the ability to string together words, I must admit, I am at a loss for words as it relates to being adequately capable of describing the level of service that was afforded me by the law firm of Horwitz, Horwitz and Associates, Ltd.

Mark seemed knowledge and compassionate when first hired. Once I cut the check - all of that was down the drain. Took MONTHS to get any return phone calls or emails. Extremely disappointing and made a very emotional and difficult process much worse for all involved.

Mark did a great job getting my divorce finalized in under 4 months.
It was important to be final in 2018 and Mark got it done.
My now ex wife of 10 years and I agreed to use one attorney and that was Mark. He represented me and she was the Pro se... it only worked because Mark was great at explaining the details in a direct but calm and unbiased way. In other words She had to feel comfortable and she did.

When I was going through my divorce a friend recommended David Del Re to me! She said he was the best, and he truly is THE BEST! If I could I would rate 10+ stars. Mr.Kenan Obaid is a great criminal defense attorney. We weren't sure at first because we didn't know what to do. When I first spoke with him he sounded very confident and promising which helped reduce and relieve the stress. I waited years to write this, divorced finalized Oct 2022. Michael Perez was a terrible lawyer from the first meeting. He did not council me on making the decision to divorce, he did not go over the process. He said he would do the job and he took the check. Over the next year of divorce Michael Perez repeatedly failed to appear for court, repeatedly failed to respond to requests by the opposing party or by the court, and repeatedly failed to respond to me in a timely fashion. He had a 'justifiable mitigation' every single time. The reviews on his site are fake, fakers or people who are too foolish and trusting to see who Michael Perez is, like I was when I hired him. I still receive letters to this day of him demanding more money, after being paid for the job, a job he did not do. If you read this, you were warned.

I have used and seen multiple lawyers practice over the years, but the only one I would recommend is Derek Haake. From the most basic questions about the legal system to the most complex, he was able to answer my questions and give me valuable advice. More importantly, he takes as much time as he needs to in order to explain things, make sure his clients understand their options, and are as comfortable as possible before moving forward. The first time I chose Derek as an attorney; he spent hours walking me through my options and the pros and cons of each choice. When we finally settled on a strategy, Derek was fully committed to doing everything possible to secure the best outcome for me as quickly as possible. He resolved my issue faster than I expected and kept me updated with everything he did, why he did it, and answered any questioned I had. Derek earned my trust and I have used his services again and again. The most important thing to me when picking someone for any service is character. As cliché as it sounds Derek became a lawyer to help. He will fight for what is right not for what’s easy. He cares about his clients and will put his heart into everything he takes on. I liked that Derek was always approachable and made himself available. He maintained his professionalism, never made me feel like I was bothering him, and made sure I didn’t feel isolated. The last issue Derek handled for me was very personal and very sensitive. He was easy to talk and careful to tread lightly when he had to ask personal questions. He told me he needed to know “the good, the bad, and the ugly” to provide the best representation possible. That is usually hard for me, but Derek made it as comfortable as possible and protected my privacy completely. His ability to blend compassion, sensitivity, discretion, and caring with his knowledge of the legal system is a unique talent and a valuable asset. There is no issue that I wouldn’t trust Derek to handle. The legal system can be a scary and confusing thing to face. With Derek as the attorney, you know you’re not facing it alone and have an advocate that will fight for you, protect you, and stand beside you.

Working with this attorney has been an absolute nightmare.
I spoke with her a few weeks after my divorce was finalized. My best friend had recently gone through a divorce & told me to make sure a qualified and competent attorney handled the QDROs portion of my divorce, as hers took an unreasonable amount of time. Emily was recommended by my divorce attorney. I spoke with her a few weeks after my divorce & stated to her my friend’s experience. She assured me my friend’s experience would not be the way she treated me & the process would be smooth & she had good relationships with the plan administrators where my money was invested.
Fast forward to November. I emailed Emily, as I had heard nothing from her in almost 4 months. 25 days later she responded to me. She said she would get back to me the following week. Guess what? Not a word.
1/2/20 I asked her for an update. I received no response. Getting fed up Emily was ignoring me, as well as my financial planner stating this was nonsense, I put her in charge of contacting Emily. She called multiple times and received a lot of dodging by Emily’s secretary. I then let my attorney know what was going on. 1/17/20 — the paralegal finally seems to get things moving.
2/3/20 we were told this would be wrapped up in a few weeks. Today is 3/14. That day has come and gone. Nothing has happened.
Also 3/13 I received a bill from my own attorney for $810. All the billing had to do with my attorney chasing down Emily Carrara and figuring out what was going on. I’m on a fixed income and do not have $810 just laying around for someone to chase this woman down. My own attorney stated he was disappointed in her actions.
The portion of the QDRO I was to receive as cash that was owed to me by my ex husband has probably gone down 20-30% due to the stock market tumble. I am a social worker and that money was to go toward a bachelors of nursing degree I am pursuing, to help purchase a new home so I can get my son into the high school he wishes to attend with his friends & to pay for my kids’ college. I do not know now if the money will be there to make these goals happen. Had this been finalized months ago, I would not be in this predicament & would not have lost a large portion of my life savings.
I am not a person who likes to leave negative reviews. I also always give people the benefit of the doubt. Given these circumstances I would NEVER use this attorney for any reason. She is incompetent & she will not respond to you. Please stay away from Emily Carrara.
