Be very careful when dealing with attorney! Do not enter into any agreements with him verbal or written unless you are 100%. You do not want to be sued. Search his past court cases. Do research! If he does your probate planning be 100% certain he files your will, DOUBLE CHECK! If you sign anything from him or deal with him court DOUBLE READ everything! You dont want to be victim to a play on words. Everyone just be careful and watch out, may victimize people, if he feels he can gain more money. Does not have a good repuation in the Nueces Courts. Never trust this guy and never let your guard down with such a caniving attorney. Gives attorneys a bad name. Its sad DISCLOSURE: All statements are made are based on personal experiences and are based on my own opinion. Not intended to persuade anyone from using listed attorney's services. Readers are advised to make their own decisions based on their own situations.

When I came to him with my case, which was a complete mess, he cleared everything that was in my case that was wrong. Different state had jurisdiction..ect. He helped me get my son back where he belongs. He made everything that went wrong, right, and for that my family and I are eternally grateful. He is a very caring, attentive, trustworthy lawyer and I recommend him to everyone I know!

Mr. Cooley was my divorce lawyer. After my first meeting with him, I felt very comfortable. I had been so stressed about it but he was great. The whole process was smooth and each step of the way he helped me understand what was happening and why. Divorce sucks. But it helped having someone on my side like Mr. Cooley. And his rate is super reasonable, too, so that didn't hurt.

He was appointed to me in court. I thought he was going to be a good lawyer when I met him. He briefly listened to me in court that day about my case and told me to bring everything I had as evidence to the next court date. When I did, he didn't even bother to look at anything, didn't really listen to what I had to say or discuss my case. I had texted and called him a LOT to inform him of problems to which he would interrupt me to say the judge wouldn't care about that or tell me that I basically had no rights to my daughter. VERY POOR is my rating for this jerk. Sadly, because of this county's greed and not caring about the children, your case will not be heard by anyone involved and because the judge used to be a CPS worker, she as well as everyone else involved in the case are all biased.

A neighbor of mine here in Far West Texas attempted to steal 2/3rds of my one acre parcel of land with what was proven to be a fraudulent claim of adverse possession. The neighbor is a retired county judge and his brother is also a lawyer; he had free legal services at his disposal. My neighbor is a long standing member of the good old boy network down here in Far West Texas; his track predatory track record not withstanding. Jodi took my case; she took on an ex county judge along with his brother’s law firm and beat them both handily. I retained possession of my property. The one acre parcel is all I have, and I am so thankful to have had Jodi and her team in my corner fighting for me every step of the way!

After 3 years of being classified disabled and not given work clearance by a group of 5 doctors, and having gone through all my savings paying bills, mortgage, insurance, taxes yet continually denied for Social Security Disability, and no money for a lawyer, my medical staff signed me up for legal assistance. A couple of days after, Jodi called me. Explained she’s ‘criminal defense’ but she wanted to help. We met at least weekly for about 2 months. From my memory, stories etc, she tracked down doctors, police officers, etc etc. she demanded that the Social Security Court hear my case. We got a court date 5 weeks ahead. We appeared before the judge with well over 3000 pages of evidence. She told the judge she was not a specialist in medical law but defense. After a hearing that lasted about 3 hours, she and I both thanked the Judge for his time, at which time he congratulated Jodi on a spectacular presentation and research in a ‘strange’ field. He adjourned advised we’d both be alerted after he reviews the evidence and makes a decision. About 2 weeks, we both received a judgement. She won for me! Got maximum allowed AND total reimbursement for back pay dating back over 3 years! Jodi, in my case, was prepared, had a stellar plan and saved. me from life on the street! I owe her my Everything! Thanks again Jodi! I love you!!!!!!

To be fair and honest, I would not recommend this lawyer to a friend, but to maybe somebody with a very small case. She was a waste of my time, ( I stayed in Houston, TX at the time), money, and effort. I traveled to her office from Houston, with faith, thinking that she had it all for this case. She talked about how she was going to do it all, plan, write memo's. The thing that I remember mostly is that she kept emailing me to "hang in there". Hang in where!! Are you working on and are going to take on this case or aren't you?! Don't waste my darn time! If she did not think that she could take on heavy case, such as a writ of habeas corpus (our case) then don't get us excited in the beginning having we think that you are going to be dedicated, don't take our money as a d*mn retainer, and don't keep sending emails stating that you are working on it and how I'm hanging in there! I DON'T WANNA HEAR IT! She took "her fees" out of the retainer that we paid her and told us that she had other cases and was too busy. WHAT!? She basically took on other cases and left ours, an innocent family, after having been fighting the stupid state of Texas for 28 years, and resigned. Was it money the reason?? Was it lack of knowledge for a writ of habeas? Or was it really fear? Was this case too heavy for you? She should have stated this crap way in the darn beginning! She then refunded my $$ to my parents when it was I who paid her from my bank card. Which kind of a lawyer is this and what kind of business is she running? She could have gotten sued for that alone! Do not waste my time, Lady!

Googled Mosser to find his address and ran into this. Let me preface by saying that if these reviews weigh at all heavily in your decision to hire anyone for anything, you are likely an impressionable, gullible imbecile. Meet people for yourself and come to your own conclusions. Having said that, I've worked with Mosser for about three years now- settled a few disputes, a couple business leases, filed a few trademarks, and successfully navigated a lengthy lawsuit. While not exactly conventional (but then again, what do I know), and certainly not cheap, Mosser is a beast. The man is smart, pragmatic and to the point. He has a knack for getting the other guy's attention quick and not having anybody waste time. I recall the man even had opposing attorneys come up to him like fanboys after what was supposed to be a two day deposition (we settled in 3 hours), asking for an autograph or a job or something - I kid you not. Happy to have Mosser in my corner - would've lost my business otherwise. I'll not enter a negotiation without him. If you value your business, I suggest you do the same. Now forget you ever read this and go make up your own mind.

Melissa was concerned about settling the case and avoiding litigation. The entire staff treated my file as a source of entertainment, and not as professionals. I paid this so called attorney $100.00 for what ended up being the worst experience with someone who is suppose to be on your side . This is what happened that day...November 25, 2013...My fifteen year old son and I arrived at Pamela A Walker's Law Office located in Granbury, Texas in hopes that she would help in a matter which concerned another county worker in which he had suddenly and abruptly thrown me and my son out of his office because I was trying to get him to explain "Teen Court" which my son had agreed to participate in as his punishment for smoking a cigar on school ground's with two others on the last day of school 2013, but only after being subtly coerced by several county officials days previously in a make shift county court. Upon arriving at Mrs. Walker's office, I came to observe her husband was her secretary. While sitting waiting for our appointment I over heard Mrs. Walker talking to a Judge from the county and worried that he may not like what she was wearing when she was to appear in court in front of him that evening. She seemed to be trying her best to appease the Judge. Soon Mrs. Walker came from behind the wall dividing us and ushered my son and I into her office. Immediately Mrs. Walker attempted to focus all her attention on my son and convince him to "do", as she put it, "Teen Court". When I tried to explain why I hired her she abruptly told me I was being "confrontational". Her eyes immediately went back to my son as she was trying her best to win his confidence by flattering him and telling him he looks like a good boy. Everything was about "looks" to this less than physically appealing homely late fifties possibly, woman. Every time I would try to say something she looked very sternly at me and again repeated that I was being "confrontational" . She even threatened to put me out of the room, which she finally accomplished after making my son start to cry, but assumed he was crying because of possible "abuse" at home?? At one point she asked my son if he was on medication, because of the way his eyes looked. My son and I immediately told her he had allergies and was recently diagnosed as being allergic to practically everything. Mrs. Walker informed my son that he would need to bring proof of his allergies to "Teen Court" so others wouldn't think he was on drugs and in order to prove his innocence to the court. What Mrs. Walker said right then and there was what I had suspected "Teen Court" was about all along. Teen Court is only to make matters worse for all those young innocent unsuspecting children that are slyly mislead when appearing before the county Justices in this town. As far as the man, (a former Sargent with the Granbury Police Dept, and whom misrepresented himself when he introduced himself to me and my son as "Investigator", days previously) in charge of signing unsuspecting children up for "Teen Court"...I realized he was the one who first labeled me "confrontational" because he had to come up with an excuse why he suddenly threw me and my son out of his office when we went to sign up and after I tried to prob him for answers about "Teen Court". I came to see that this attorney was working in cahoots with the former investigator/Sargent and officials, all in an attempt to entrap my son in "Teen Court" if was possible. Because obviously according to Mrs. Pamela Walker, the prosecuting teens can ask any questions they want about you, your friends, your family, your aunts, uncles step-dads, etc., about smoking, drugs, stealing...whatever they want. No wonder they were so excited to get my son and other unsuspecting young adults into their little county "Teen Court". According to an Ex Sheriff I dated ...the criminals are the ones running the county! He admitted he was mentally ill and that most cops are sick in the head! Well, to not make a long story short, My son changed his plea and is paying the $214.00 fine instead. Some advice...Stay clear of Hood County, Texas!

WORKED the system to get the judge to feel sorry for my mentally ill daughter and get her out on a PR BOND!! THEN just left her be, left her to be homeless and hungry with a mental illness that causes her to be paranoid, and think that everyone she randomly comes in contact with is out to get her!! Who does that? Who is so bent on winning that they just let a mentally unstable woman out in the streets with a paper jumpsuit and no shoes out in December?? I'm pretty sure that she sleeps perfectly at night while I, her mother, lay awake and worry that my daughter will be killed by someone, or kill herself (multiple attempts in the past) because she can't get away from the people in her head trying to kill her..... If you want a lawyer who is going to help you get away with a crime you committed, this is the one ... but if you want a lawyer who is going to do the ethical thing for her clients, RUN AWAY!! or like me you could have a child that is mentally unstable, with a very long criminal record just set free ...

Michelle Lanfear was referred to me by another attorney. My first impression was that she was aggressive and attentive. Nothing could have been further from the truth. She was never around for anything, highly impatient, and let my ex-wife's attorney run all over her. Her employee was extremely rude to me and threatened me on several occasions. Her associate attorneys were great. However, that was the only saving grace in my experience with that firm. Never again!

I was referred to Mr. Lamorgese to review a potential appeal of a high-conflict and voluminous child custody case. Before the initial consultation, Brad was able to reach out to the attorneys on file and review the case, so the actual time was spent very effectively, not reviewing the case but discussing the possible solutions. All the notes and suggestions received during the consultation were spot on, and of a great assistance. After we found that the cost of representation is out of my price range, Mr. Lamorgese went far and beyond referring me to more affordable yet still superb firms. I highly recommend Mr. Lamorgese as a knowledgeable professional with great attitude towards his clients.

I paid $250 to consult with this attorney. The zoom call lasted 15 minutes when I was assured the appointment would last for an hour. He was very dismissive and told me that I would have no success in my case after skimming my materials. I then asked if he may be able to send me similar cases he worked on that have been publicly posted ( most lawyers do so you can reference their work) and he said he would have to be retained to do this. I did not get a proper consult and he should have refunded the consult fee as it only lasted 15 minutes.

We sat down and went over my case and i was delighted when he started asking questions that i had been asking for a while, which my other defense attorney would not acknowledge or try to work with. This attorneys work gave me my life back. He was very aggressive in court and an overall very easy to talk to and understand..... What an Appeals Lawyer Can Do for You

An appeals lawyer specializes in representing clients in appellate courts, challenging or defending lower court decisions. If you believe that a legal error was made during your trial or that the court’s decision was unjust, an appeals lawyer can help you appeal the ruling to a higher court. They work to identify mistakes made during the trial, such as improper application of law, exclusion of key evidence, or jury misconduct. On the other hand, if you're defending a favorable judgment, an appeals lawyer can help protect the decision from being overturned.

Appeals lawyers don’t retry the case but instead focus on legal arguments and procedural issues to convince the appellate court to either overturn, modify, or uphold the lower court’s decision.

When Should I Hire an Appeals Lawyer?

Hiring an appeals lawyer is necessary when you are involved in a legal appeal, either as the appellant (the party appealing the case) or the appellee (the party defending the lower court’s ruling). Common situations in which you should hire an appeals lawyer include:

  • Appealing a conviction or ruling: If you’ve been convicted in a criminal case or lost a civil case and believe the decision was based on legal errors or improper procedures, an appeals lawyer can review the case and file an appeal on your behalf.
  • Challenging a sentence: In criminal cases, if you feel that the sentence is excessively harsh or not in line with legal standards, an appeals lawyer can work to reduce or modify the sentence.
  • Defending a lower court ruling: If the opposing party has filed an appeal to overturn a favorable ruling, an appeals lawyer can help defend the judgment and argue that the lower court’s decision should be upheld.
  • Complex legal issues: If your case involves complicated legal issues or interpretations of the law, an appeals lawyer can provide the necessary expertise to argue those points effectively before an appellate court.
  • Reviewing trial errors: Appeals lawyers can examine whether mistakes such as jury misconduct, improper exclusion or admission of evidence, or incorrect jury instructions occurred during the trial.

You should hire an appeals lawyer as soon as you decide to appeal or are informed that the other party is appealing the case, as appellate procedures are time-sensitive.

What Does an Appeals Lawyer Do?

An appeals lawyer provides specialized legal services to challenge or defend a lower court decision. Their role focuses on legal arguments, reviewing the trial record, and persuading the appellate court to either reverse or uphold the ruling. They can:

  • Review the trial record: Appeals lawyers meticulously review transcripts, evidence, and rulings from the original trial to identify any legal errors or procedural mistakes that could be grounds for appeal.
  • Prepare and file briefs: Appeals lawyers write legal briefs that present persuasive arguments to the appellate court. These briefs focus on the legal errors made during the trial and how they affected the outcome.
  • Present oral arguments: In many appeals, lawyers present oral arguments before a panel of judges, explaining why the lower court’s decision should be reversed or upheld based on legal principles.
  • Monitor case law developments: Appeals lawyers stay updated on changes in the law and precedents set by higher courts, which can be crucial in shaping the arguments they present during the appeal.
  • Provide legal advice on the likelihood of success: Appeals lawyers can offer a realistic assessment of your chances of winning the appeal based on the legal errors and evidence from the trial.

How Are Appeals Lawyers Paid?

Appeals lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the appeal and the amount of work required to prepare briefs and present arguments. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many appeals lawyers charge by the hour due to the significant amount of research, writing, and preparation involved in appeals. Hourly rates can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For some straightforward appeals, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the work necessary to complete the appeal.
  • Retainer fee: In complex or high-stakes appeals, a lawyer may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers the initial stages of the appeal. The lawyer then bills against this retainer for ongoing work.

It's important to discuss fees and costs upfront with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does an Appeals Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an appeals lawyer varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the amount of work involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Straightforward appeals: For simpler appeals, such as those involving minor legal errors, fees can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Complex appeals: Appeals that involve complicated legal issues, multiple grounds for appeal, or high-stakes outcomes can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 or more, especially if the case requires extensive legal research, brief writing, and oral arguments.
  • Hourly rates: Many appeals lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $200 to $600 per hour, with higher rates often associated with more experienced attorneys or particularly challenging cases.

Before proceeding with your appeal, it’s crucial to ask for a clear estimate of the costs involved so you can budget appropriately.

Top Questions to Ask an Appeals Lawyer

Before hiring an appeals lawyer, it’s essential to ask questions to ensure they are well-suited for your case and that you understand the appeals process. Important questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with appeals?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience handling appellate cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., criminal, civil, family, etc.).
  2. How do you charge for appeals?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a retainer, and request an estimate of the total costs for handling your appeal.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my appeal?
A good appeals lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and the chances of winning the appeal.
  4. How long will the appeal process take?
Ask for an estimate of how long the appeal process might take, from filing the initial briefs to a final decision by the appellate court.
  5. Will you personally handle my appeal?
In larger law firms, junior attorneys or legal assistants may handle some of the research or drafting. Clarify who will be responsible for preparing and arguing your case.
  6. What is your approach to handling appeals?
Some lawyers may be more inclined to focus on procedural issues, while others emphasize broader legal arguments. Make sure the lawyer’s approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of an Appeals Lawyer

To ensure that you’re hiring a reputable appeals lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for appellate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in appellate law and have successfully handled appeals similar to yours.
  • Check client reviews and testimonials: Look for client feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s track record and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their expertise and success in handling appeals.
  • Look for recognition in appellate law: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL) or awards and recognition in appellate law can indicate a lawyer’s expertise in this specialized area.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an appeals lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Trial transcripts and court records: The lawyer will need a complete record of the original trial, including transcripts, motions, exhibits, and the final judgment or order.
  • Legal briefs from the trial: If any briefs or motions were filed during the trial, bring copies so the appeals lawyer can review the legal arguments that were presented.
  • Written decision or verdict: Bring the court’s written ruling, verdict, or decision so the lawyer can identify any potential errors or issues to raise on appeal.
  • Questions about the appeal process: Write down any questions you have about the appeal’s timeline, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • List of potential legal errors: If you believe specific mistakes were made during the trial (e.g., improper evidence, legal misinterpretations), provide a list of those issues.

Being well-prepared for your consultation allows the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide the best guidance on how to proceed with your appeal.
