Very weak in dealing with opposing attorney. After months of calls, emails, a court trial for a municipal matter, we ended up back at the original stipulation/penalty. Cost us thousands in wasted money on a lawyer only to have to pay the original fine. She was weak in dealing with male attorneys and municipal staff. Disappointed.

To whom it may concern, Jason Martell is flippant, unsophisticated, and will not hesitate to attack you personally in a civil function. Do not trust him or his law firm to do their due diligence and fully investigate any one term or notion that could impact an all important family case. Also, be weary if you come from any other ethnicity or are not Caucasian because racial epitaphs and attacks from his perspective are forgivable with respect to the hospitality of children. He will draw emotional conclusions, exhibit gender bias, and conflate all issues in an attempt to confuse and overwhelm clients. If you state anything with any amount of fortitude, you will be attacked, debased, and accused of being too serious about essential matters. His overbearing and non-subjective personality does not fit within family law/custody oriented matters. Ask yourself, since this firm has such low reviews, why does the state appoint guardian ad litem representation from said firm to arbitrate on behalf of a child’s lifestyle/circumstances/placement. Be alarmed, you cannot trust that a person like this will respect the bounds of civility. If you are appointed a guardian ad litem from this firm, beware.

This attorney seemed knowledgeable and eager to help with my case. After retaining, he initially seemed to be somewhat productive in helping my case, however after a couple months, things began to not go in my favor, phone calls were not returned promptly, emails were not returned & I was billed for them anyway. A check payment was lost, and after a month passed, his assistant called for repayment. Overall this attorney did not seem to fight for my best interest. A few months after our pitiful agreement was signed, more problems began, so I reached out to him via email for advise. I NEVER received a response to that specific email, however I did receive a bill for it. I never paid the bill, but continued to receive it a couple more times. This attorney was a waste of retainer, time & do not recommend him to anyone.

At first he seemed extremely knowledgeable, eager to work with me and ready to help me get custody. After hired though I only heard from him about payments for my retainer. Which I had paid when stated I would but somehow they misplaced two checks. Once he got the full retainer he charged me for reading and responding to emails, but never actually responded. Then the final straw was he told me that my case was taken care of, and I didn't hear from him in four months. By then I was assigned a court date for contempt of court. Turns out the court date where he was suppose to take care of everything he cancelled. Once in contempt I went to get a public defender. After this he all of a sudden called me nonstop trying to be my public defender. Has some nerve on that one. I fired him and am now looking for an Atty to fix all this. This time I'm researching and reading reviews. I'm told that the mess he made of my very simple case is deplorable, and professionals I've talked to thus far can not believe how bad he treated me and my case.

BEWARE!!!! Amy Eddy is a high priced attorney, staff misspelled my name on initial filing of probate documents, Amy doesn't return my emails, phone calls, won't answer my questions but her staff keeps sending my brother invoices for high priced attorney fees. My brother's court documents expired and they have made no progress on closing my Dads estate but attorney Amy Eddy keeps sending my brother her high priced attorneys fees. I feel totally uncomfortable with Amy Eddy handling my Dad's estate. Went to court asked for her to be removed because she isn't helping my brother through the probate process just charging him fees. She won't remove herself because I think she just wants to collect her high priced fees and profit off my deceased Army Veteran father's estate. I will be filing a complaint against her law license with the WI State board of attorneys for attorney misconduct.

Uses this office for bankruptcy. 2 years and it's not final. I have showed up at every scheduled apt only to be asked what did I need?! Always told to come back and they would get to it. Had a court hearing scheduled on foreclosure - no one from the office showed up. It seems his wife runs the office and doesn't pass on information. Basically she took my money and hasnt done a thing. She told me not to tell my mortgage company we had an attorney. Extremely unprofessional. Doesn't return calls or emails. The judge at court stated she wants to know what Attorney Christian is doing and is going to demand and explanation from him regarding his handling of our case. Don't hire them for any reason

Be aware of the fact that just because a lawyer is appointed by the courts in a CHIPS case, the financial responsibility lies upon the individual. Atty. Christian has no interest in arguing any case as he gets paid either way. He was of no help whatsoever in my CHIPS case, argued with me that questions I had were "Not his job", would accept no emails at his office, habitually was uninformed as to dates and times of various meetings and hearings surrounding my case.

We wanted to use him as our estate lawyer and I drove all the way out of state to meet him and was told to reach out to him after I spoke with my other family members. I emailed, called and no response. He even went so fat as to disappear on my other attorney and held up our ability to receive our settlement. SO unprofessional. I hired Herb to handle my case. The experience was unfortunate. He wouldn't return phone calls. Though many messages were left, it sometimes took weeks. This made everything take so much longer than necessary; the case dragged on and on. Papers needing my signature came with my name misspelled. That was never corrected. For the final, legal, paperwork, I just crossed it out and rewrote it. He made me feel very insignificant . . . he was too busy to take my case seriously.

I've been working with Attorney Humke for about a year. In all this time, I've found him to be professional and great at putting forth my best interests. The way I wanted to handle my case was by fighting it standing up instead of getting down in the muck. Attorney Humke has done an outstanding job of being direct and clear, striking hard when necessary, but being cautious and not overplaying his hand. Also, he reminds me of Sam the Eagle. I recommend him highly.

My husband hired this attorney because he believed he had the reputation of his father, not the case. He was interested in us in the beginning but that changed during the process. He waited until the last moment to do things which he told us he was going to do the day we met with him, which we have in writing. This caused us to have to file for extensions which we feel we should not have been charged for since they were his mistakes. This happened more than once. He would not return calls, and made us feel as though we were not important clients. We asked for monthly statements, it took many months of asking before we received any. I would not recommend him .

Unfortunately there were high expectations and they were not met by Mr. Sharkey. Very professional, but limited knowledge and not very intuitive. Spent more time than needed discussing him personally and getting charged for it. The invoice contained redundant information/items. It was very detailed, however quite a few grey areas that said the same thing. Biggest disappointment was two-fold: First, had to explain situations 3 to 4 times before comprehension and while the expectation for Mr Sharkey was set on day 1 in terms of what was needed, he did not meet that expectation. And note,,,the expectation or what was asked of Mr Sharkey does not have any relation to the outcome of the issue. One other note: After releasing Mr Sharkey and notifying the other party being dealt with - their response was: "We understand" I think that speaks volumes. End result: Overcharged and disappointed.

I hired Mr. Skinner for the probate of my sister's estate. It was a very frustrating experience as I was told I had to spend a great deal of money on depositions and a handwriting expert only to never have the results entered into court because Mr.Skinner said I needed to settled, that was after he demanded another retainer or he would drop me as a client. I was left clueless and helpless because he said he got me to a settlement and would no longer need to represent me unless I now pay his new higher fee. There was still some unforseen situations that occured and I had no representation. For these reasons I would not recommend Mr. Skinner.

They don’t review and information given and the judge in branch 3 traffic court said that “ if the officer shows up and has a calibration sheet saying it’s in spec. Then the ticket stands as it is.” I understand the ticket and would pay the fee, but it’s my wife’s first ticket in 24 years of driving. I just want to keep it off her record, if possible. A friend recommended Nola as the best but she seems to have declined. From the first phone call I was told repeatedly consultation would be $395. Told this 2 times by Nola and 3 times by various office staff on phone and before and after consultation. Our first session ran over 1 hour as she asked questions sending me off into tangents rather than getting the story out. After 1 hour I asked about what I would have to pay for additional time. She told me "Don't worry about it," but later sent me a bill for an additional $395. She took notes but the typed summary she sent a few days later was full of factual errors. Moreover she refused to give me a straight answer when I questioned how she would proceed or what my chances of winning would be. Rather she made vague assurances that after I signed a contract with her she would reveal her plan. I grew increasingly suspicious of her professional capabilities and after careful consideration decided to look for someone else.

Paid 395.00 for initial consult. All she did was take notes, no advice. I provided significant typed documentation and she proceeded to take notes on a legal pad off of my documents while I sat there. Then she passed case on to associate who didn't review the file and couldn't read her notes so he had several pages of questions for me that were already addressed in detail. Associate drafted a letter to my opponent that was terribly incorrect and didn't reflect the facts and statements I provided in writing and verbally. Hours and hours of time wasted at hundreds of dollars an hour. Terrible customer service.

He will take more money from you than he gives you ( he took an estimated $26,000 from me in a 9 month time frame!) He is not available in emergency situation or weekends but he will charge you like he is. Don't lock your keys in your car or break down on the side of the road if its the weekend! He will cut off everything he thinks you don't need! Such things as a simple local newspaper subscription and cable! He will also treat you like you are a child, he will talk down to you and humiliate you! He does not return phone calls making you call him numerous times and he will charge you for every phone conversation, every check written, every bill mailed (if he pays your bills that is) and contact with him what so ever he will charge you and he will charge a VERY large amount, a lawyers fee even though he is technically not your lawyer but your trustee! He will give you a very hard time when you need money out of your trust to purchase an item you NEED, like a bed!! He will lie to you, he will say he mailed you a check but he really did not, his Secretary has actually busted him out on that one! What a Business Lawyer Can Do for You

A business lawyer provides critical legal guidance and support to entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses. Whether you are forming a new company, drafting contracts, or navigating complex regulations, a business attorney ensures you are legally protected and operating within the law. They can also help prevent legal disputes or represent you in negotiations, transactions, or lawsuits that arise during the course of business operations.

Business lawyers have expertise in areas such as business formation, contract law, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. They ensure that your business is compliant with relevant laws and help mitigate risks that could threaten your company's success.

When Should I Hire a Business Lawyer?

Hiring a business lawyer is essential at various stages of business development, including:

  • Forming a business: When deciding on the best structure for your company (LLC, corporation, partnership, etc.), a lawyer can guide you through the registration and compliance process.
  • Drafting contracts: If you need contracts for employees, partners, suppliers, or clients, a lawyer ensures these documents are legally sound and in your best interest.
  • Mergers, acquisitions, or dissolutions: If you are buying, selling, or dissolving a company, legal counsel is critical to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Compliance and regulatory issues: A lawyer can help navigate complex regulations, particularly in industries like healthcare, finance, or tech.
  • Resolving disputes: Whether it's contract disagreements, intellectual property infringement, or employment issues, a business lawyer helps mediate, negotiate, or litigate on your behalf.

What Does a Business Lawyer Do?

Business lawyers provide a wide range of services that cater to different legal needs of a business. They can:

How Are Business Lawyers Paid?

Business lawyers typically charge either by the hour or on a flat-fee basis, depending on the complexity of the work. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rates: The lawyer charges based on the time spent working on your case. Rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fees: For certain tasks, such as incorporating a business or drafting a standard contract, a lawyer may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer: Some businesses may hire a lawyer on retainer, paying a fixed amount each month to have ongoing access to legal services.

The payment structure is often discussed during an initial consultation so you can choose the one that best suits your business needs and budget.

How Much Does a Business Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a business lawyer depends on factors such as:

  • The complexity of the legal issue: More complex matters, like mergers or intellectual property disputes, typically cost more than routine tasks like contract drafting.
  • The lawyer's experience and location: More experienced lawyers or those in larger cities often charge higher fees.
  • The nature of the billing arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $150 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer's expertise. Flat fees are usually available for simpler matters like forming an LLC or drafting a standard contract.

It's essential to discuss fee structures upfront to avoid surprises.

How to Check the Credibility of a Business Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable business lawyer:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is in good standing and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for client reviews or testimonials: Online reviews, testimonials, or word of mouth from other business owners can provide insight into the lawyer's reliability and effectiveness.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should have satisfied clients who can vouch for their services.
  • Check professional memberships: Membership in respected legal organizations (such as the American Bar Association or a local business lawyer association) can signal credibility.
  • Review their website and professional profile: A well-established lawyer typically has a professional website showcasing their areas of expertise, credentials, and case success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a business lawyer, prepare the following:

  • A description of your business and its structure: This will help the lawyer understand your legal needs.
  • Any current contracts or agreements: If you're seeking contract advice, bring copies of existing contracts.
  • A list of legal issues or concerns: Be ready to discuss any potential legal challenges, such as regulatory compliance, disputes, or transactions.
  • Financial documents: If applicable, bring financial records related to the legal matter you're seeking help with.
  • Questions about fees and billing: Ensure you understand the lawyer’s payment structure and fees upfront.

By preparing these materials, you can ensure that your first meeting with a business lawyer is productive and informative.
