By the grace of God another law firm referred me to Shewmaker and Lewis. Due to my unique custody issue, this other law firm told me that Steve Shewmaker would be THE attorney I needed.
When Steve and I did meet, I could tell this was finally a man who had empathy and acted with a sense of urgency. Steve and Tuscan Fairfield went above and beyond with their resources for months to help with this very difficult situation. There was constant communication throughout every stage of the process.

Jeremy Abernathy was referred to me by another attorney and I could not be happier with the outcome of my custody case. My case was a bit difficult and throughout the whole process, I always felt as if my sons livelihood and best interests came first. He fought tooth and nail for us and stuck to his guns both in and out of the courtroom. He is going to do what's best for you, your children, and your case to make sure you get the best possible outcome-and will do it in the most professional manner. He showed his expertise and at times if I was a bit difficult, he brought me back down, reassured me, and even prayed for me which I greatly appreciated. He explained everything to me and made sure I understood properly. He showed up to court very well-prepared, organized, well-spoken and professional but will also go toe to toe with aggressive opposing counsel or opposing parties if needed, and it made me feel as if he was really looking out for my son and I and fighting for what's right. There were times, even after-hours and weekends, when I needed guidance on how to approach situations with the opposing party and he was very responsive and didn't make me feel like I was a bother. He's very rational, fair and won't let you fail in the courtroom for having your own personal expectations that may be unrealistic. He made me feel heard and that he cared. Based on personal observation, he is also very well respected by his peers as well as the judge that we had. I would recommend Jeremy to anyone going through a legitimation and custody case. Chris was amazing!! I had a year long divorce proceeding she was very persistent and accommodating. She was very compassionate and caring. Anytime I needed her she was in contact with me with a matter of mins to the next day at the latest. We were awarded everything I was asking for as well as primary custody of my children. Balean and Kristy kept me sane during the hardest year of my life and I am forever grateful.
I was too nervous to reach out to a divorce lawyer even though it was well past time, so a friend of mine who is a lawyer in another area talked me into it and recommended these two personally. I can't say enough good things so I'll try and break it down into the things that are/were important to me in a divorce.
They are NOT pushy. I was so nervous the first call, I did not want to get a divorce. I even (politely) told them I hope we don't ever need to talk again. They were extremely supportive. Not one single time did either of them push me towards a divorce. They answered all my questions honestly and thoughtfully and I never felt rushed.
On the flip side of that, they are also very cognizant that their time is expensive. So for me, it is very hard to find a lawyer who is constantly aware of running up your tab, but personable enough to trust them and not feel like just another check in the spreadsheet. On top of that, I have ADHD so I can get off on a tangent with the best of them. Both Kristy and Balean we're very good at redirecting me into the areas that mattered and pushing me though the areas that didn't without letting me get hung up on them.
They are extremely prompt (during business hours, I cant speak to otherwise because I don't expect people to work 24/7), I don't think I ever waited a full day for a reply. You WILL feel like a priority. Which frankly with how being a lawyer works, is pretty remarkable.
They know their stuff. I don't know a better way to put that. And if they don't know, they make it a priority to find out. I had a few odd snafus with property issues and a few (lets say less than reasonable) demands from my now ex, and if I had a question they tracked it down if they weren't already sure.
They are generally fun and calming presences. Mediation went for a full day, so Balean was trapped in a room with me for probably 12 straight hours. And if you aren't aware (i certainly wasn't), mediation is very much hurry up and wait. When we had the mediator, it was 100% business. When she was in the other room, we walked through everything we needed to discuss, got advice, and then were able to relax and recharge a bit before the next turn. As you can imagine, its an emotional time. I went from needing to pace the hallways angry to bouncing off the walls bored to everything in between and not once did Balean get even slightly irritated with me. They are VERY aware that you're going though something and that while we need to be efficient there also needs to be room for you to be a person with feelings and needs.
So if you don't read all of that, the important bits are they are going to make you a priority and you'll feel like it, they will not run up your bill for no reason and will be honest when they think something may do so, they give you grace to be going though something hard, while also getting you though it in a prompt and efficient and competent manner. I absolutely would not even consider another legal team if these guys are available. I can't speak highly enough of this firm.

After seeing this woman on TikTok I would not hire her. She is obviously bias, sexist and uses social media to spread propaganda about women. Considering not all “clients” tell the truth, it is irresponsible to spread information not confirmed in a court of law. I would rather the lawyer I hire spend her time on the case at hand not on TikTok. Be wary of this woman.

Family law is messy, emotional and the stakes are high. My divorce was fairly atypical. Steven and I were living in different time zones and there were many unique issues and difficulties to be addressed. Prior to hiring Steven, I interviewed a few recommended lawyers and most gave me a prognosis of a three to five year divorce. Thanks to Steven’s intelligence, efficiency, effectiveness and pragmatic approach I was divorced with excellent results and settlement in less than four months. He has changed my whole outlook on lawyers. Steven is a man that listens without prejudice or judgments. He is a superb attorney that offers sound advice with his client’s best interest in mind, and does not loose sight of what is at stake. He provided productive, timely reviews of preliminary drafts ensuring that my case was handled in a sensitive, appropriate manner and he seemed to always make the best choice as to when to be flexible and when to be firm. I truly felt cared for as a client and as a person. He was there not only to support me through the process but also to create competent connections and advice long after the divorce was final. Steve represents hall of fame athletes, but he never treated my case as less important than those of his famous clients. He is knowledgeable and strategic -- right away, he assessed the facts of my case, he worked with me to develop a case strategy, and then he executed upon it with precision and efficiency. While not inexpensive, Steve's fees were reasonable for the high quality and meaningful work that was performed. In addition to legal skill, I really like Steve. He's tough, but also a good person. He truly listened to me, was sensitive to my concerns, I always felt comfortable discussing personal matters with him, and I never doubted for one minute that he wasn't fully committed to and capable of reaching the best possible outcome for me (which he did).

I had this firm on retainer for the last 6 or so years for a child custody matter as i live out of state at first they were great but since 2021 they started raising there rates and billing thousands of dollars with no communication with me when there was nothing going on in my case then when I dispute the charges it takes 6 months for the attorney to call me about it had a discussion about how to end the case and the fraudulent billing and was told she was going to fix the problem received a email a few days later that they were removing themselves from my case and refused to talk further just continued to send billing statements worse lawfirm if you have a case that isn't quick and easy
Beware anyone who has them or is looking at hiring them in the savannah area be prepared to be ripped off
Ps To owner maybe pay attention to your lawfirm and less about your podcasts and seminars
Im sure I'll get some bs auto response from owner just know I had too finish my case myself and did a better job with better outcome then with them representing me and didn't cost me thousands of dollars magic

I wish I could give 0 stars. I recently had a frustrating experience with Vayman & Teitelbaum, P.C. Despite a very cordial introduction call, the consultation meeting with the attorney was repeatedly rescheduled and I was ultimately left hanging. The lack of communication, follow up, and professionalism was disappointing.
While I understand that law firms can be busy, it is unacceptable to lead prospective clients on with hopes of representation then never giving him/her the chance to even get a consultation. It was suggested to me, by this firm via text, to seek representation elsewhere without any explanation other than "[they] have a lot going on."
I know that some firms may shy away from clients who have legal plans that cover costs of legal fees as they probably do not make as much off of those cases; however, I would urge this firm to be more transparent about their hesitancy AND/OR remove themselves from the legal plan's list of attorneys to avoid having to disappoint people in already frustrating situations.

This law firm is the worst she represented my child father. An helped him avoid taking responsibility for our child. Never showed up to a court date and came up with excuses on why they couldn’t attend. And then claim he never lived in the District which got my case dismissed. Which was not true My child is 7 years and I still don’t have child support as a woman this was heartbreaking.

Suddenly in need of a divorce lawyer after over 25 years of marriage is not a position I ever wanted to find myself in. Luckily I found David. I was not at all sure what my expectations should be heading in to the divorce but he explained to me what he considered to be a fair and equitable result and despite some unexpected obstacles he was able to deliver that result. From my first conversation with Sara about my divorce, she explained each step of the process clearly in easy to understand terms. Each time I was asked for something, she would explain why she needed it, and what she was doing with that information.
