I have worked with Charla for the last several years on a Settlement Agreement, Settlement Modification, and a few annoying odds and ends. She has always gotten me the results I was looking for and created a great situation for my family.

I wrote the 1st review. Since that time, my settlement agreement has seen a lot of activity. It was and is a huge waste of money and time. I was persuaded by Ms. Strawser to trade assets for 'final decision making authority on my children". Final decision means nothing unless, I have primary custody. I can't imagine Ms. Strawser didn't know that. Towards the end of her representation of me, Ms. Strawser was going through some personal issues and it effected her behavior, her decisions and ultimately, my case. and my children. I contacted the managing partner of her firm who alerted Ms. Strawser of my concerns. Ms. Strawser was unmoved. As well, Ms. Strawser told me to wait to call the police on a molestation incident that occurred during the course of our divorce. That was horrific advice and still affects my daughter's custody issue. Since that time, Ms. Strawser has made every attempt to malign me to anyone who would listen. While Ms. Strawser's behavior was unprofessional and cause of grave concern, the repercussions of her advice are still being felt and paid for today. I wouldn't recommend Ms. Strawser, 2 1/2 years post divorce. I paid well into six figures and am still paying to try to have the worthless Settlement Agreement. . .enforced. Her advice was not accurate and has in fact, been harmful. Her gossiping about her clients is most unprofessional. I suggest you keep looking. . .

Charla has been a blessing. She is calm, smart, strategically 2 steps ahead and is fair. After hiring the "best divorce lawyer" in Atlanta. . .who was a nightmare, Charla, stepped in and took over my case seamlessly. I would and have recommended her to my friends. She is well respected by her peers and judges, intelligent, articulate and easy to get along with. . .even through times of intense emotions. She is a great lawyer, a strong advocate, adviser, a tough negotiator and is trustworthy.

Josh and his team are great. They always answer my questions quickly. With other attorneys I would wait weeks for a reply. Michael was always very quick at addressing my questions and needs. Whenever I met with Josh he always made me feel better and had a plan. He knows what he is doing. Every other attorney that I talked to had high opinions of him as well.

Still an ongoing case. This poor mom has spent 12k with Mason. Not one court hearing. Not one change or any progress has been made in over three months. What makes this even worse is that the county referred her to him. Please pray for this family.

Josh represented me for almost three years in a custody case which was very complex, difficult, nuanced, and spanned two different counties two hours apart. He never flinched or backed down and was a consummate professional whose expertise was overwhelmingly evident. He always helped me maintain my sanity during the really rough parts of the case and fought for me in such a way that showed he truly did care about my well being, my child's well being, and the outcome of the case. Observing his courtroom prowess was to watch a master perform his craft which time and again, hearing after hearing, provided the steady reassurance that I was in good hands. I knew that we was committed and would see me through to the very end. His assistants Carley and Ina were always on the spot with all the crucial behind the scenes work and were diligently responsive to my concerns and needs. They are a great team and they led me to victory in this case! I truly cannot say enough good about this firm or recommend them highly enough. Thank you!

It became evident from the outset that this lawyer's primary concern was money, not the well-being of their clients. Throughout the entire process, I felt like I was just another source of income rather than a person in need of assistance. Not only was the communication lacking, but it seemed that every decision made was based on what would bring in the most profit for the lawyer, rather than what was best for me as the client. There was a distinct lack of empathy and understanding of my situation, and it was clear that their only motivation was to maximize their fees. The young girl that runs the front desk is very sweet but extremely inexperienced. If you’re a firm representing high conflict cases , you need someone at the front just as knowledgeable and ORGANIZED. In court, their lackluster performance was evident. It was apparent that they had not put in the effort to adequately represent me, and it felt like they were more interested in rushing through the proceedings to move on to the next paying client. Their lack of dedication and genuine interest in my case was truly disheartening. I strongly advise anyone in need of legal assistance to steer clear of this firm. Their focus on financial gain over the well-being of their clients is unacceptable and reflects a severe lack of professional ethics.

She will take your money then have the audacity to come after you seven months later since her clientele is poor, making up fake deductions, requesting for you to pay her more. After she failed to represent you. I sat on my computer for two hours, uploading pictures of my child, and she didn’t use one. The other party provided pictures since she failed to provide all the documentation I provided I had the judge a Fulton in County viewing my Instagram story days after the hearing due to her negligence. I honestly don’t see how she has not been sued for malpractice. Her husband is a judge in cobb county and uses her husbands title to gain clientele. An attorney’s duty is to use such skill, prudence, and diligence as lawyers of ordinary skill and capacity commonly possess and exercise in the performance of tasks which they undertake…. An attorney is not bound to extraordinary diligence. He / She is bound to reasonable skill and diligence, and the skill has reference to the character of the business he undertakes to do. She threw my case together the day before my hearing also told me I was gonna lose custody the day before aka “preparing me” failed to have the knowledge of certain things she should have she willingly allow me to walk into court knowing I was going to lose custody of my child to gain some money: the loss was the result of this lawyer’s action or inaction. I do not recommend using her as a lawyer ,if you go to search for Google reviews, nothing comes up except for this platform with only three reviews. This whole law firm is extremely narcissistic. Her assistant was extremely rude as well. They act like they’re sh*t doesn’t stink and don’t know what they’re doing.. but are quick to tell you what you want to hear to get your money. I’m convinced majority of these reviews are fake. The binder documentation she had was a bunch of nonsense of repeat copies She failed to use any of the documentation I provided that would help my case I should’ve represented myself

Katie K Leonard represented me when my pilot- husband abandoned our family. She is exceptional on every level. She does not waste your money, is a straight shooter, and she will fight for your rights if you have been mistreated. I frequently say that her closing arguments on my case should have been recorded to use as teaching material in law schools. Compared to my ex-husband's attorney, she hit it out of the ballpark. She was prepared, detailed, specific, and extremely tough. She didn't waste time with irrelevant questions and she clearly "knew her stuff." I was ignorant of the whole process and a total basket case when my husband left my daughter and me. She prepped me well for what would take place in the courtroom, and she tolerated my meltdowns with ease and grace during the time leading up to the court date. I cannot say enough about her and her firm. They are wonderful in every way.

Frank and his team lied to me on more than one occasion. He was hard to get in touch with and would not return calls. I was told by him and his team I did not have to worry about a deposition. They told me the day before my deposition that I had to be there. No preparation. He and his team lied to my mother as well. Frank charged me thousands of dollars and did nothing to defend me in court, even though I spent hours gathering information that they requested for our court appearance. Frank will tell you what you want to hear and let you burn at the stake. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MAN!!!!

After going thru a rather costly divorce where my ex-wife was sticking me with monthly payments of nearly $3,500 / mo and not making any progress with two other attorney's. I was stuck with payments which where determined prior to the economic down fall. Attorney Frank Hamilton and his team (which where very hands on and accessible); worked on my case and within a couple of months where able to reduce the payments to $1,600/mo. The monthly payments could of been less if one of the previous attorneys had advised me properly against signing a document. The fees where reasonable and whenever I fell behind due to circumstances; Attorney Frank Hamilton was there to defend me and keep me out of trouble......the attention and service was unparalleled by any other firm. I've recommended his firm to others and they've come back with the same results.

Would not hire this lawyer again for even defense of a parking ticket. Hired this lawyer approximately March 2014 and was told that my two year limitation of filing was in November 2015. Lawyer used up the time. He advised me by phone on 31 of October 2015, with follow up letter on November 6, 2015 that the malpractice case was not worth pursuing (risk reward); remaining filing time was basically used up and I did not have sufficient time to pursue other legal help in my case.

Money hungry law firm. Our initial consultation was a waste of money. We were quoted an initial deposit and escrow fee which barely lasted a couple weeks. The emails from the firm were asking for more money with very little information. The home check they said we wouldn’t need cost us $250 because the judge said otherwise. They sent my husband to a fingerprinting facility that couldn’t even do that right. They failed and their staff couldn’t even figure it out. Waste of money and time spent trying to get that sorted. They couldn’t even show up to our court date on time. The after adoption instructions were basically figure it out yourself. We of course had to pay for that lack of information. I would never recommend them to my worst enemy. Don’t waste your time or money on them. It only stresses you out and ruins the experience.

Only reason I’m giving two stars instead of one is because of how friendly and helpful the paralegal that works here is. I sent my girlfriend to a consultation here in order to gain custody through a divorce and after explaining the case work to him instead of helping her started asking her questions that made her feel like he was attacking her mental health. She stood up and walked out after he told her to go home and take her medicine. Needless to say, we will not be paying the 200$ consultation fee he asks for just to have an appointment set up to be insulted.

I usually do not write reviews, but in this case, it is important to make others aware. This review is based on my direct experience with Ms McGham. I contacted her office seeking legal advice regarding visitations ( the other party doesn't let me see my daughter). I paid the fees, and my appointment was scheduled for 2 pm. I arrived 5 minutes earlier, but the front desk said she was on a phone call. After 30 minutes, I was able to see her. She did not review the form before sending it to me; this form had information on my initial case and the parties (minors) involved. She listened to me and instructed me what to do ( roughly 30 min), and after doing so, I had to contact her again to let her know the outcome of her instructions, and based on that, she would tell me the best route. She couldn't tell me anything else, and there were no prices either. I contacted her 3 times via phone and left a voicemail. Also, I sent her several emails, but she never returned any of my calls or emails. Spoke with front desk and she assured me my emails been printed and they are on her desk. She contacted me back almost 3 weeks later via email. And here is what I sincerely think (again, this is me, as a human and desperate mother who hasn't seen her kid in almost a year. If you come to a lawyer and explain what's happening, express this feeling of hopelessness and need as a mother to see her kids. Of course, I am willing to hire her services, but the first impression is a lack of communication (again, 3 weeks to give me an answer). Do you think this person takes her job seriously? If you come to a lawyer (who should be passionate about what she does) and that person doesn't respond promptly, clearly, that person doesn't want to help. Why should I hire you?

I hired him after my husband had a three year affair. He was recommended from an acquaintance. I was young, naive, and very vulnerable. He would yell at me, talk down to me, and even told me to shut up in front KC my soon to be ex and his lawyer. There were so many more things I could have gotten if I would have known what to ask for. But he was supposed to be my protector… not the case!

After a social worker friend referred me, I retained Howard Gold for my divorce and custody dispute. He was rude, made sexist and suggestive comments, came to court late (and charged me for the extra time since we were bumped to the back of the log) and charged me to give me information he’d already told me about. I later found out from two different women that they had similar experiences to mine. Think before you hairs this man!

I will be recommending Howard to any friends/family that are looking for a family law attorney. He helped me through a very difficult and confusing case and came out with a positive, fair outcome. He is professional and also understands the psychology behind family law. His paralegal, Matt, was so kind and understanding. He's incredibly knowledgeable, intelligent, and attentive. They make a great team, and I felt confident being represented by Howard. I went from being upset and confused to empowered and confident about my case because of Howard and Matt. If you want an experienced attorney with not only the best legal relationships, but a paralegal that is absolutely the top of his field, hire Howard.

My ex took my Son to Illinois on an order written by a Commissioner in Bakersfield. She wanted a $50 consult fee. I paid $25 in cash, and wrote a check for the other $25. After getting paid and putting out her cigarette, she told me, "I can't help you, take it up in Illinois." That was twenty years ago, without a visitation order, I HAVEN'T SEEN HIM SINCE. I PUT A STOP PAYMENT ON THE CHECK. JUSTICE?

Considering hiring this attorney , but her prices are doubled compared to a few other local offices…so do some research beforehand. Her personality was great and I found some helpfulness in the advice I was given. After my consult I spoke with a friend who hired her as her attorney to gain insight on what it’ll be like working with her. she said lots things would always pop up because of personal events happening in Cynthias life. Which caused delay with her case. She also mentioned her office manager just wasn’t the best to work with and always made her feel stupid for asking about her case or having any questions at all. She ended up hiring someone different.. I will mention.. I didn’t like how her office manager spoke with me when I scheduled my consult either. So extremely rude with snide comments. When I called back to see how I could pay, I was greeted with a different office staff who seemed more polite and helpful to my concerns for payment! I spoke with this lady for about 10 minutes. If I remember correctly her name was Marlene! If you call this attorneys office just make sure to speak with her! Extremely helpful!! Thought I’d leave a more recent review since I struggled to find one. Still debating hiring Cynthia. Will leave an updated review when I have decided.

After researching companies that were successful in cases against HOA's I hired this firm 5 years ago. I asked if they could win and was told yes. February 2023 we had to agree to a settlement. In that 5 years we changed lawyers 5 times. I would call to find out what was happening and was always told that they were waiting on the HOA attorney and that's just the way this worked. I ended up paying this attorney more than if I had just paid the HOA fine. There is no real update from them, unless you call their monthly bill an update. The last attorney assigned did manage to get a settlement worked out. We took it because I was not going to drag this out another 5 years and 5 different attorneys.

This is a poor start. After speaking with the staff and an attorney with the John Miller and Associates Law Firm... I paid the non-refundable fee, agreed to the initial date and time set by the staff and called 1 hour before the appointed time to confirm the appointment. After the appointed time and 15 min before the close of business, I called the office and was informed that the attorney was not going to make the meeting. Summary: the attorney did not display the expected professionalism and courtesy to take the time to call to me, and provide an apology and reschedule the meeting. This is definitely a teachable moment for John Miller and his Associates...provide timely information to the clients and be more considerate of our time. Thank you Keith Wright

My encounter - My divorcing spouse wanted to cherry-pick among our 'same-blood' children during our divorce. Angie's judge-recommendation was to award 'division' of our children, between homes, instead of awarding them to stay together, between homes. --Is that looking out for our children's best interests? really?... I unfortunately discovered later I was not the only one she did this to during her practice of law. Ask yourself, who separates young brothers and sisters of the same bloodline? --Angie does I've found, and does it regularly. Caution -check her records.

Angela Woodall is without a doubt the worse lawyer I have ever encountered. Her office looks like it just came out of a cardboard box, She claimed to be an expert on family law but when we went to mediation the opposing counsel schooled her like she was a pre-law undergrad. Every-time she needed a document for my case she asked me to print it because her printer was small and too expensive to use. After it became evident that the divorce was not going to be as simple as she promised she withdrew from the case without notice. If she is your lawyer dismiss her immediately before you get screwed over as well. I am posting this anonymously as I have a pending complaint against her with the GA Bar.

I hired Ms. Woodall in 2017, I told her that I needed an attorney that would have my best interest during my divorce. In my opinion What I got was an attorney who was not knowledgeable about the law and constantly asking for money, though we never made it to court. I continuously asked her what my case status was and have you talked to the other attorney. In my opinion it seemed I would almost have to force her to contact my wife's lawyer. It is my opinion that she was never aggressive, she would say I just need another payment to take us to the end of the case but there was never an end. After almost a year of seemingly no results. I asked her to please remove herself from the case. I filed for a hearing myself and hired another attorney. Surprise, surprise I was divorced in a month. From this new attorney I learned that I didn't have to pay the whole mortgage on a house I didn't live in and that my ex wife should have paid at least half. My new attorney asked why I never got an emergency hearing? She said a judge would have made her pay because she had no vested interests to do so. In my opinion that would have been nice to know from Ms. Woodall. I wound up paying the entire mortgage for a year. Then the new lawyer asked me why I was giving my wife 35% of a house she did not buy, never paid mortgage in, and her name was not on the deed. My new attorney explained that she could have gotten that percentage much lower. In my opinion that would have also been nice to know from Ms. Woodall. Instead Ms. Woodall worked a 65% to 35% split. I never write reviews but I am making a special exception for Ms. Woodall. There are thousands of good attorneys in the Atlanta to Dallas GA area, in my opinion she is not one of them. Save your self some time and money by always check reviews when hiring an attorney. In my opinion run from any attorney with low rating on Avvo and other such sites.

I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the incredible legal support provided by Kathy Portnoy and her team. Strategic Brilliance: From the outset, it was evident that Kathy approached my case with a strategic mindset. She crafted a well-thought-out plan that not only addressed immediate concerns but also looked ahead to long-term resolutions. Kindness and Compassion: My case was emotionally draining, but Kathy navigated the complexities with unwavering kindness. Her compassion made the legal process more humane and bearable during what was an incredibly challenging time for my family. Fair and Just: Kathy's commitment to fairness was apparent in every aspect of her work. Strength in Advocacy: My case demanded strength and resilience, and Kathy exemplified both. Her tenacity and ability to stand up for my rights were instrumental in achieving a favorable outcome. Legal Brilliance: It's not every day you come across someone as brilliant in their field as Kathy Portnoy. Her legal acumen was apparent in every interaction, providing me with confidence and reassurance that I was in the hands of an expert. Unwavering Ethics: Kathy upheld the highest standards throughout. Best in the Southeast (and Beyond!): While it might sound like an exaggeration, I firmly believe that Kathy Portnoy is the best not just in the Southeast but possibly in the entire country. In sum, Kathy Portnoy and her team did more than represent me – she saved my life and brought sanity back to my family. If you find yourself in need of an attorney who combines strategic brilliance, compassion, fairness, strength, and unwavering ethics, look no further. I wholeheartedly recommend her services; she is, without a doubt, the best in the business. I am forever grateful.

I was referred to Kathy Portnoy by the best defense attorney in the country! I quickly realized she is his gold standard equivalent in the family law arena. Kathy took my call one night ..spent hours listening to my circumstances ..and did not run! Instead she relished the challenge. Kathy untangled exhaustive legal mishaps that predated her representation. She transformed my protracted, muddy custody case into a clear blueprint for success. Undeterred, patient, and creative! Kathy did what only the best attorneys can do for their most anxious clients. She managed a potent legal approach ..while also managing me! I am so grateful for this resolution. Thank you Attorney Kathy Portnoy!!!

Waste of money for an unprofessional attorney. She gets an attitude with you if she actually has to speak with you about anything and accomplishes nothing. She was nice at first, until she got the money and then she changed. Don’t waste your money. Pick another attorney. Maybe one that will care about your case instead of simply getting paid.

Total lack of followup and communication for weeks at a time. Would not recommend to anyone unless you like paying someone to waste your time and money. It was such a bad experience I'm curious of the validity of some of the other reviews here.

I am compelled to preface this review, as it lends high credibility to Paige Jennings. I am definitely a senior citizen. Over the last 50 years I have been married 3 times, and divorced 3 times. I have had three different divorce attorneys, Paige being my most recent. My first divorce was highly emotionally charged and contested. That attorney thought it would be great for me to take the case before a jury ( lots more money for him). Obviously, I was not very happy with his perspective. My second divorce was not contested and I got a bargain basement fee on a rough draft insisting that I retain ownership of a 1989 Ford station wagon that belonged to neither me or my wife. Paige Jennings represented me with my most current divorce. My experiences in the past confirms that she is a saint and down to earth hero. This review is based on multiple divorce experiences with attorneys. Paige is at the top of the list! Paige Norwood Jennings can be incredibly compassionate, she understands you, but will quickly boil a situation down to the sometimes hard to take honest truth. She will give you down to earth advice and support. You feel like you have gained a good friend. She is aggressive, when she asks you to make a decision, she wants it "NOW", does not favor " LET ME THINK ABOUT IT FOR A WHILE". Her approach has a definite advantage to it. Things happen fast. Paige works for you behind the scenes. She knows that you are much more capable of gathering and analysing the background information regarding your case than she could ever be. Her job is to use what you give her to your best advantage. And she's very good at putting it all together for a great defense. On the routine questions, she may appear to be hard to get ahold of. But rest assured, when you really need to talk, she's there 24/7. I believed in her, she never let me down. Amazing! I took a highly contested divorce to her. She mediated an uncontested divorce beyond my most hopeful expectations. All in just 8 weeks! Retain her services, you won't be sorry.

During my entire case I did all the foot work and I brought him countless evidence and he presented none worth my fight. He asked me for character witnesses I gave him 4 he supeona them but said know need to call on them. Bottom line I lost custody of my son not because I was unfit but because I was represented poorly. He is hard of hearing so during the trail as I was telling him of errors from my now ex husband he couldn't hear me so I had to write as fast as I could. When the ruling was passed down he didn't offer to appeal on my behalf he attached a note saying he agreed with the judge. So in the end a child I have cared for on my own for 2 years without any child support what so ever has been taken away and I now am ordered to pay child support all because of a temporary order that the child's doctor went against when the child fell ill, he never supeona the doctor. I wouldn't recommend him if you love your children because you will loose them in the end.

Mr. Riddle is the best adoption attorney in Savannah. He worked with my husband and I when we adopted our daughter. He is very knowledgeable and made sure we had all our bases covered. I would say without a doubt that he is one of the most compassionate attorneys in Savannah and I give him my highest recommendation. Anyone who is looking to adopt, whether it be here in the U.S., internationally, or even if they are working with a surrogate, should use Mr. Riddle. He is an excellent attorney and my husband and I believe he is the only choice for adoption in Savannah.

David was very informative and kept me "in the loop". Going through a custody battle can be rough and David was very understanding. I would also like to say that he is a " down to earth" type of person meaning someone that you can talk to about your case and be very comfortable with. He is very " up front " with everything! David Shippert comes HIGHLY recommended from my point of view.

My husband and I hired Kerry for a custody issue with my stepchildren. She heard everything we had to say and talked over what we needed to do on our end. She was able to get us full custody with a visitation schedule for the kids bio mom. Because of Kerry we were able to provide a safe environment and gain a beautiful co-parent relationship. We would not have this relationship if not for Kerry. Custody battles are hard and we had lots of questions all of which Kerry answered quickly and efficiently. She handled our case as if it were her own children. We appreciate her kindness and wisdom beyond words! I will always refer Kerry to anyone needing custody services! We are highly satisfied!

Kerry has been a God sent to our family. She helps us obtain joint custody a couple of years ago of our son and since has continued to be there for us everytime a problem occurs. We recently needed her again and again she came to our aide and helped us fight. We will never stop being greatful for her. She is a fantastic Attorney and the three times we've needed her in the past 4 years she's won our case everytime! There aren't many attorneys that you will find that will work harder and she believes in fathers too and equality in a mother and fathers parenting time and abilities and that's a wonderful quality.

Very disappointed with the results that I got with this attorney. I used him for my divorce and child custody. Never held true to the things he told me. The main problem is that he is a part of the "good ol' boys" in Thomaston and only interested in "MONEY", not taking care of his clients. Spent a great deal of useless time and money dealing with Mr. Irvin which is something that I will never do again. He was highly reccommended to me before I hired him so I was totally surprised that he wasnt as great a lawyer as some had portrayed him to be. If you want a good attorney that cares more about you and your case than he does your money then DO NOT HIRE MARK M. IRVIN!!!

Ms. Schnur picked up my child support modification case at virtually the last minute after my former attorney had a unavoidable issue which prevented him from being in court. Ms. Schnur was very personable, attentive, and helpful out of court, and very professional and knowledgeable in court. The result of my case was exactly what I had hoped for (child support remained the same). I could not have asked for better representation.

Lesia seemed interested in the divorce case when I hired her and that interest lasted only a few months. I am aware that she had some difficulty with the husband's stalling antics since he would not sign anything. But let me make it very clear that she was disappeared and while we may have access to her text messages she has not returned our messages or phone calls. She left with the case up in the air. So very unprofessional and was a tremendous letdown for us as we had already paid her to file the paperwork. I feel that once she discovered how difficult the husband was going to be, it would have been most professional of her to let us know that she wanted off the case.

Jonathan Tuggle was my lawyer five years ago. At the time, unbeknownst to me, he was having an affair with his paralegal Elizabeth Rapp and was distracted. Elizabeth convinced him to drop my case, which he did and shortly thereafter I appeared in court unrepresented and lost my case and my children. A month later I received a message from Jonathan saying he was never upset with me (and hinted that he wanted more). I started to do some research online and found that he has had several cases against him for unprofessionalism ie. showing up late to court because of his alcoholism. Jonathan Tuggle and his firm need a lesson in ethics.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with this attorney. Despite promising to have my contract ready within 48 hours, she failed to deliver. Personal circumstances aside, she should not have taken on my case if she couldn't handle it. I feel scammed out of my money. Communication was another major issue—she rarely answered calls and frequently promised to "look into the matter and call back," but those follow-ups never materialized. Despite assuring me of a refund, I never received one. I strongly urge caution when considering her for any legal services, free consultations, or professional hire. If you've had a similar experience, consider reporting the issue to the State Bar to seek proper resolution. On a side note, I hate reporting a negative review on a Spellman grad, but professionalism and honesty trump everything. She should be removed from her oath of helping people.

I did not hire this attorney, but my wife did. I am not an attorney, I do not even do reviews like that. I watch a lot of Law and Order, Dateline, 20/20, a big murder mystery buff. I never seen a professional so unprepared in my life. To add insult to injury, I personally made sure my wife sent pictures of an incident that took place to Mrs. Rowe's office. We get to court and she does not even have the evidence THAT WE PROVIDED!!! While we were in court it was like she did not even know why we were there. We asked for clarification on charges that we received from the office and no one could explain why there was a lack of communication on billing WHEN NOTHING HAD BEEN ACCOMPLISHED. She guaranteed a win and we continued to lose on a simple matter with tons of evidence in my wife's favor. She still got paid though. If you would like to throw away your case, by all means please hire Mrs. Rowe.

Contrary to the two reviews I have read on this site Mrs. Forwood has been there in every step of my case. I believe she has the knowledge and compassion that is required in such legal cases as my own. Mrs. Forwood is a constant guardian in my definition and a great lawyer, and I would recommend her to anybody I know that needs such representation. Her tenacity and presence in court is unparalleled by anyone's standards and believes in the right thing for the case. Even if it is not in favor of what "the client wants" it will be the right thing to do. This I trust, and am willing to say it with confidence and conviction. In a nutshell, I am more than pleased with the services rendered thus far in an ongoing case and am pleased to have been referred to Mrs. Forwood by a very well known practice in the athens area.

I was not happy with my experience with Ms. Forwood. I increasingly felt less confident that she was a strong advocate, efficient, and effective. Her lack of knowledge is apparent, and she drags on her case in order to increase the cost of her services. I felt that she presented options for me that were detrimental. Additionally, I thought she treated the paralegal poorly, talked behind the paralegal's back. She doesn't realize that she is a fool, and appeared that way in front of the judge and the opposing council. Choosing her was an embarrassment. She is simply a failure at her work.

I retained The Law Office of Julie C. Moore, LLC for an automobile accident I was involved in. During the year-process, there were several issues and concerns that I have. At no point did I ever meet with Ms. Moore. All of my phone communication and in-person communication was with the paralegal, from the initial consultation through me receiving my payout. At the consultation, I was told that the firm’s fee was 30% and at the time that I received my payout the fee miraculously changed to 33%. The firm initiated a claim with my insurance company to receive additional funds but did not inform me of their intentions to do so. I was notified by my insurance company and then I received a call from the paralegal informing me that they had already submitted a claim. The communication with the paralegal was horrible and I had to constantly call her to check on the status of my claim, with very little follow-up. The paralegal initially told me that she would assist with the diminished value on my vehicle but never followed up and I had to take care of that myself. I would never recommend Ms. Moore or her firm. I feel that they were deceptive and their level of service was below average. I also feel that they were only in it for the check they received and not my best interests. Additionally, I signed over a check that the firm received from the insurance received that was in my name. The paralegal presented the check to me backwards and I was instructed to sign the check without seeing it. I had to turn the check around to actually see what I was signing and for what amount. I was then instructed to sign a document indicating that they would withhold monies for any bills that I was still liable for, when I had already instructed them to pay all of my bills first prior to giving me my payout.

So I was referred to this lawyer by my company’s legal benefits plan to handle two cases that I have ongoing. For one of the cases (lets call it case A), only the initial consultation was covered under the legal plan, and for the other case (lets call it Case B), the legal plan (I was told) covered the whole thing. So I had the free consultation with the lawyer concerning case A, and paid him $1500 up front to handle that particular case, and signed a contract for that case and that case only. That was the first, and last time I ever spoke to him. Shortly thereafter, I was made aware of case B, which (I was told by Mario’s associates) was a completely separate case, that it could not be incorporated into the first (even though the people involved were similar), and that I would have to find a way to pay for it separately. So after some research on the Hyatt legal site, it appeared that Case B was actually covered by my benefits, so I generated a case number and provided it to Mario’s associates, who then informed me that the case could be covered under hyatt legal and to send them the documentation that I had on the case. Then, for the next 4 weeks, I only got one call from the associates, who had called to tell me of a rescheduled court date they never informed me had been scheduled. I ended up hiring a new attorney and asking for a summary of work performed against my retainer, and he rolls both cases into the case where I paid the retainer, and made rediculously high withdrawls for non-legal items (charged $290 to read emails!?!?!?), but he also charged me for items AFTER he had been terminated. This man is a monster, the worst kind of human being. I can only pray that they will bar him from ever practicing law again.

What a Child Custody Lawyer Can Do for You

A child custody lawyer specializes in helping parents navigate legal matters related to the custody and care of their children, particularly in the context of divorce, separation, or other family disputes. These lawyers assist with determining custody arrangements, drafting parenting plans, and advocating for your rights in court. They also help resolve disputes over physical custody (where the child lives), legal custody (who makes decisions for the child), visitation rights, and modifications to existing custody orders.

Whether you're going through a divorce or need to change an existing custody arrangement, a child custody lawyer can help you understand your rights and protect your child's best interests throughout the legal process.

When Should I Hire a Child Custody Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a child custody lawyer in several situations, especially when disputes arise or complex legal issues affect your parental rights. Some common reasons to hire a child custody lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: If you're going through a divorce or separation and need to establish custody and visitation arrangements, a lawyer can help ensure the custody order reflects your child's best interests.
  • Disputed custody cases: If you and the other parent cannot agree on custody or visitation terms, a lawyer can advocate for your rights in court and help you develop a strong case.
  • Modification of custody orders: If you need to change an existing custody arrangement due to changes in circumstances (e.g., relocation, changes in the child’s needs), a lawyer can help file a modification request.
  • Parental alienation: If the other parent is interfering with your relationship with your child, a lawyer can help address these issues through legal action.
  • Domestic violence or abuse: If there is a history of domestic violence or abuse, a lawyer can help protect you and your child by requesting restraining orders and advocating for appropriate custody arrangements.
  • Grandparent or third-party custody: If you are a grandparent or another relative seeking custody or visitation rights, a lawyer can guide you through the legal process.
  • Paternity disputes: In cases where paternity is in question, a lawyer can assist with establishing or challenging paternity, which may affect custody and visitation rights.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help protect your parental rights and ensure that the custody arrangement is in your child's best interests.

What Does a Child Custody Lawyer Do?

A child custody lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help parents resolve custody disputes and secure favorable custody arrangements for their children. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing custody petitions: Helping you file the necessary paperwork to request custody or visitation rights and ensuring all legal procedures are followed.
  • Negotiating custody agreements: Assisting in negotiating custody and visitation arrangements, often working toward a mutually beneficial parenting plan without going to court.
  • Representing you in court: If you and the other parent cannot agree on custody terms, representing you in court by presenting evidence and making legal arguments to support your case.
  • Drafting parenting plans: Helping you draft a comprehensive parenting plan that outlines the schedule for physical custody, decision-making responsibilities, and visitation.
  • Handling child support issues: Assisting with related issues such as child support, ensuring that financial obligations are properly calculated and enforced.
  • Modifying custody orders: Helping you request a modification from the court if you need to change an existing custody arrangement due to significant life changes.
  • Mediating custody disputes: Acting as a mediator to help both parents reach an agreement on custody and visitation without the need for litigation.

How Are Child Custody Lawyers Paid?

Child custody lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case, the time involved, and the nature of the legal work. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Most child custody lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer's experience and location. The total cost depends on the time spent preparing documents, negotiating, and representing you in court.
  • Flat fee: For simple custody matters or uncontested custody agreements, some lawyers may offer a flat fee for specific services, such as drafting a parenting plan or filing a custody petition.
  • Retainer: Many lawyers require an upfront retainer fee, which is billed against as the lawyer works on your case. The amount varies based on the expected complexity and duration of the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some lawyers may offer reduced fees or pro bono (free) services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in cases involving domestic violence or other serious issues.

It’s important to discuss fees and payment arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will be charged and what services are included.

Top Questions to Ask a Child Custody Lawyer

Before hiring a child custody lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Some key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with child custody cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, especially if your case involves complex issues like domestic violence, relocation, or paternity disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees for certain services, or requires a retainer, and ask for an estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case, including potential challenges and expected outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline from filing the petition to reaching an agreement or going to trial.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Ensure you know who will be managing your case and representing you in court.
  6. Can we pursue mediation or alternative dispute resolution?
Ask whether the lawyer recommends mediation or other forms of dispute resolution to avoid a lengthy court battle.

How to Check the Credibility of a Child Custody Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable child custody lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for family law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in family law and child custody cases.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge the lawyer’s professionalism and success in child custody matters.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on custody cases.
  • Check for certifications: Look for lawyers who are board-certified in family law or have memberships in organizations like the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) or local family law sections.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a child custody lawyer, come prepared with relevant documents and information:

  • Court orders or existing custody agreements: Bring copies of any existing custody or visitation orders for the lawyer to review.
  • Communication with the other parent: Provide copies of emails, texts, or letters regarding custody, visitation, or disputes.
  • List of your child’s needs: Prepare a list of your child’s specific needs, such as medical care, education, and extracurricular activities.
  • Timeline of the case: Outline key events related to your custody case, including changes in living situations or parental involvement.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the custody process, legal fees, and the lawyer’s strategy for your case.

By being well-prepared, you can help the lawyer assess your situation effectively and receive the best possible advice for protecting your rights and your child’s well-being.
