I met Laja on a pro se hearing for temporary orders on my divorce case. She was the second attorney that I had pro se and immediately I could tell she was far different from the man that had represented me the first time around. I retained her ASAP after that second hearing and I haven't had a regret about it since. Laja, while representing me and willing to do as I asked, was an amazing voice of reason in helping me make decisions on how to proceed with my case and laying out possible outcomes, as well as giving her professional opinion based on her experiences from past cases. She has a vast knowledge of Utah family law and in the end, the case worked out in my favor which is abnormal for the state I live in. She dealt swiftly with my ex through the whole thing, who was constantly dragging her feet and making things difficult. Laja went far and beyond her description when arranging meets and phone calls, as my schedule is a bit hectic, and she is quick to answer any questions via phone call, text or email without pause. Laja is an amazing attorney. My case would not have turned out as it had without her expertise and I am definitely keeping her information in case of any future issues with my case.

I hired Jacob to represent me in a family law case my ex-husband initiated. Living in Missouri and having to hire an attorney in Utah was a little stressful, but Jacob made the process go very smoothly. We had an initial consultation over the phone where we discussed the case, my thoughts and feelings, and what the next steps going forward would be if I hired Jacob. Jacob really listened to me, understood where I was coming from and the situation at hand, and was straightforward about how he thought the case would turn out. After hiring Jacob to represent me, we communicated pretty regularly through email, texts, and phone calls. Jacob was very conscious about his fees, and he did his best to keep costs as low as possible for me. I really appreciated this and didn't feel like he was cutting corners or slacking in any way to keep costs low. He kept me in the loop regarding the case throughout the entire process and he made sure to submit my answers and evidence to the court in a timely manner to make sure we were within deadlines.
When my court date finally arrived, Jacob and I had a brief phone conversation before our WebEx session to make sure we had everything covered and to discuss the argument Jacob would be making. Jacob stayed on track and argued every point we discussed. Though we didn't get the exact outcome we were hoping for, Jacob did a great job minimizing my loss and I was happy with the outcome we got.
Jacob did a great job representing me in this case. Should the need arise in the future, I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again. He listens to his clients and is always asking for input and direction. I consulted with Jacob when he was a fairly new attorney outside of family law. He struggled with advanced legal arguments (anything other than the usual "failure to state a claim" reply) and was not really able to form a cohesive structure in his writing. He lacks a logical mind that excellent attorneys have as the research and writing that we consulted with came back to that of a first year law student. I am rating him average, because there was nothing above-average in his work.

This case was a long, drawn out process but Alyssa and her team kept me up to date on what was going on. I had a deeply disappointing experience with Boyack Christiansen Legal Solutions during my divorce. From the very beginning, it felt like I had no one truly advocating for me. Despite the fact that there were no kids involved, and my ex had her own business — a business I helped build by putting her through college, paying her business taxes, and funding her overhead costs — she still walked away with all the proceeds from the house sale.
What’s worse, I had to do most of the negotiating myself. My lawyer seemed disinterested and unmotivated. I was the one who fought to reduce the alimony (indentured servitude) from 20 years to 10. Meanwhile, my ex had a legal team that was clearly fighting for her every step of the way. The imbalance was undeniable.
The situation only got worse. I was falsely accused of cheating — a blatant tactic used for leverage — and found myself surrounded by females who showed no interest in challenging those claims. I had no male representation, and it felt like my voice was ignored.
If you’re looking for a law firm that will fight for you, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. Boyack Christiansen Legal Solutions left me feeling isolated, unsupported, and ultimately worse off than I should have been. I would not recommend them to anyone in need of real advocacy.

I was in a hard spot with a firm that wasn't advocating for me and had already taken a huge chunk of my savings and equity from selling my marital home. I was heartbroken. I sent out a handful of new "contact us online" to different firms in Utah, and Jonathon Porter reached out to me almost instantly and we set up an in-person meeting.
Less than a month after retaining Porter Law I already feel I am in better hands. I see the holes that were left open by my previous firm, and where Porter Law is picking up the pieces. They have been more proactive than the large firm I signed with from May - September. I wish I would have started here and saved my heartache and pocketbook from the beginning. If you are in a similar position, looking for new representation I highly suggest speaking with Jonathon.
Even though my case is not complete, I truly look forward to working with Porter Law to until we are able to close this chapter.
12/26/2024 - UPDATE:
From October when I first met with Porter Law I asked if we could get this done by the holidays and today I open up my email to see my divorce is FINAL and everything has concluded. I am so grateful to Porter Law and their diligence and communication that they had with me. My case wasn't rocket science, but felt like so from the other party. Scott Help me through a very rough patch in my life. I needed to work through a marriage fraught with trials and challenges. He did not encourage me to hurry and get a divorce, rather he encouraged me to do several things to save the marriage. I followed his advice and in the end he did help me with the divorce process, but by the time we did that, I was well prepared for the end. I knew that everything possible had been tried, and having tried many, many solutions gave me insight into the situation that I otherwise would never have known. My ex-wife was married to me but she was in love with someone else. Had we filed for divorce right away, I would have ended up in a much worse situation. Having waited until the more complete story came out put me in a great position to keep the children with full custody. I get to stay in the family home and the money I earned goes to support the family not to support someone who is untrustworthy. During the time I was trying to put things back together, I found out about secret banking accounts, real estate, and other possessions that were part of her life but not mine. Scott helped me understand why she pushed so hard for some things (mostly financial.) She pushed hard for all of the things we owned together to be put into a family trust which for some reason didn't include me. She said that because we were married in reality I was a member of the trust. She wanted access to my bank account, but refused to allow me to even go into her bank with her. When it came time for the financial statements to be filed, I had the information needed to confront her about the assets that she had and had not declared.
Due to the lack of her disclosure it was clear that she was not telling the truth and therefore had no credibility with the judge. The judge looked much more favorably at the arguments we presented even though the truth of my position was not always pretty, it was the truth. I had given Scott all of the ugly details of the marriage, so there were no surprises for him during negotiations or when we got to court.

Absolutely horrible to work with! I wouldn't recommend her to anyone! Charged me $10,000 for a simple fill in the blank protective order document that was only supposed to take just a couple hours to fill out. She filed this document with false information despite me asking her to fix the mistakes. She was belittling and bullying to me throughout the couple weeks I tried to use her. It was so bad that I told her that I was thinking of using someone else for my divorce, and she got upset and dropped me for the protective order case which I had a hearing for just a couple weeks later. I had to quickly try to scramble to find a new lawyer and ultimately lost my protective order after having to spend even more money to try to get a new lawyer up to speed and to try to fix her many mistakes. Absolutely a nightmare of an experience! Do NOT use her!

If you're at the beginning of your divorce process you're probably a little scared and looking for someone who can give you advice and who you can trust. At first Emily seemed like she was exactly that and during my free consultation with her she came across as someone who would fight for me and protect me. I hired her thinking she was a high powered attorney that would get the job done, but in the end all she ended up being for me was a high priced attorney who cared more about getting paid than protecting my best interests. With only an 18 month marriage and a full pre-nup in place I should have had a slam dunk case, but Emily consistently dropped the ball and got caught off guard by my ex-wife's pro-bono freshman lawyer's antics and it cost me dearly. Emily's response to me everytime I'd get screwed was "well it could be worse" and she'd quote some other case she was working on that was a lot costlier. I never felt like she was in control or knew what she was doing, her communication was spotty, and she was constantly charging me to fix her blunders. Ultimately I felt like she didn't really care about me as a client and had more important things to worry about. With that said, I gave her a couple of stars because I guess she could have been worse.

Ron has been my attorney for a little over two years as I navigated a highly contentious divorce. I’ve also worked with his associate, Jennifer closely and often. They have been an absolute dream team. They have always looked out for the best interest of my kids and I and did everything in their power to get us through this process and into a better place so we can heal and move forward. They were always prepared, listened to my experiences and concerns, explained things well, and were often available quickly when situations would arise unexpectedly but needed attention. Ron is wonderful at balancing the line of keeping peace and avoiding conflict when possible, but being aggressive and an advocate when he needs to be.
