I hate using lawyers and think most are incompetent. However i found a great one in Mr. Ditlow. He helped me resolve a custody issue with my sons mother and was great to work with. He communicated well, was detailed, and was very knowledgeable. He returned every email and phone call i made to him in a very timely manner and actually explained things to me in a way that i could understand. Dear potential future client, I’ve been where you are at this very moment, looking at reviews and thinking or responding to a divorce. It can be a scary moment to face alone. So much can depend on these next few actions. So please take a moment to breath and read the following.
I was married for 15 years at the time the divorce was finalized. I was blindsided by my ex-wife's choice when I got the paperwork served to me. I was heartbroken and felt like a failure as a husband and more importantly as a father. I had three beautiful kids, an almost 20-year military career, a house/assets, and now a future that was in a limbo of some extreme altering from one person’s decision. It was overwhelming. So many thoughts and feelings flooded my mind and body. I knew I needed help, and quickly, so my response was to find the right people to help me through this process, which started with internet searches, reading testimonials, and making phone calls just like you, which lead me to Jad and Kara. If I can save you the wasted time please stop and call Marrison Family Law. I was quickly put in touched with Jad and Kara. Jad and Kara respond quickly and deliberately. They were able to guide and inform me of everything I needed to know and act upon to protect myself and my interests. Quickly the ex-spouse realized my legal team was head and shoulders better than her lawyer. She also realized that it was in her best interest to negotiate and play fairly otherwise she would be facing a very difficult time along with mounting legal fees and what Kara would coin the weight of a legal whale crushing down on her.

If you are getting divorced, you need an attorney, and arguably, even if you are well-acquainted with the legal arena. I started my divorce without one and soon realized that I needed one, which was one of the two best decisions I made. The second, and of equal weight, was hiring Joseph A. Ditlow (JAD) of Marrison Family Law.
If you don’t know what to look for in an attorney, the internet provides lists of standard characteristics that every good attorney should have. JAD has them all, but let me explain what sets him apart even further:
JAD won’t compromise his integrity or reputation for a client. He careful filtered the information I gave him to ensure I was being honest and thorough, giving him a clear understanding of the coming battle.
Divorces are charged with emotion. It’s easy for a client to think of an attorney as a counselor and lose track of time. Counselors are far less expensive than attorneys. Still, attorneys need a degree of history and relational information for context. JAD was mindful of the clock and my strained budget and masterfully helped me stay on track and task. More so, though, JAD captured the information he needed to understand me and my concerns.
My case took unexpected and somewhat shocking turns and dives that placed enormous and sometimes short-notice demands on assessing how to respond and proceed. JAD remained unshaken, professional, and hugely supportive. His confidence and encouragement was profoundly meaningful and beneficial to me, and his ability to shift gears with speed, accuracy, and clarity exceeded measurable value.
I was sometimes given information I didn’t like, or that I thought was wrong or found unfair. JAD understood and helped me face some facts with candor but grace, even when I responded with a lack of grace myself.
There was a lot of noise in my case, and because there is only so much time in the court room, we had to discern very carefully what really mattered. JAD focused on my desired outcomes while advising me on what was realistic, what should be our priorities, and what risks should be abandoned until we reached an agreement based on what I could live with. In my case, his method and approach was monumentally successful.
There were several things he did that were really the glue that held everything together: uncompromisingly ethical; researching; exhaustively exploring and/or pursuing preferred options with opposing counsel; having flexibility; making connections; really hearing me; checking in on me; being tirelessly attentive and responsive to my case, even after hours; educating me; coaching me on the value of timing and waiting; his own self-discipline; and especially, meeting me where I am based on my world view.
JAD and I were together on my case for a long time. Time can make or break any relationship because it provides the opportunity to really see what someone is made of. I am certain that my case is only quiet for the moment, and not really closed. Therefore, knowing what JAD is made of, we will be working together again, eventually.
I don’t know what JAD’s personal worldview is. He has never volunteered it, and I have never asked. What I do know is this: My worldview prompts me to thank God for him.

I knew Jeff was the right choice from the first conversation we had. Jeff is calm but sharp. He answered all my questions perfectly while providing the answer my ex's lawyer would provide as well. Mr. Redding did an outstanding job on my ex's neglect and abuse case resulting in me having 100% full custody and 100% decision making to my then 6 year old son and 5 year old daughter. He had the Guardian at Leitem apologizing in court.
A littler over a year later I hired Mr. Redding again for a contempt case with my same drugged out ex. The case ended with her losing her supervised visitation rights and the Judge still ordered the original court orders regarding my ex and what she has to do to earn time and rights back. 10/10 will hire again.

They used to be Cantafio and Hammond. Their employment lawyer Christine Breen took my case, when I was at my lowest, just let go after years of workplace bullying, and recently retaliated against for whistleblowing, and contemplating suing my employer. She promised to help, but then was MIA and refused to return calls. Yet she charged $2000 doing work no one asked her to do, as I already signed a severance agreement not to sue. She never wrote a demand letter. Never did anything substantial, except wrote 2 emails. I had to tell her to cease and desist charging me. I had to bring this case to the bar association. She immediately called, yelling, you agreed to pay this amount. We negotiated, and she reduced it by a few hundred. I should've gone to the bar association and got her disbarred. When you are at your most vulnerable, you cannot trust these people.

I hired Colleen for a divorce, and during the initial consultation I was told everything I wanted to hear in order for her to get my retainer, then it all went downhill from there. I do not think it is ethical for attorneys to make false promises to clients, and have no accountability for poor performance. Colleen was never on time for a single appointment we arranged, and it was clear that she took on more cases than she could handle to maximize her revenue, even as it diminished the quality of her legal work. I would go into hearings having no idea what was going on, as there was inadequate or no preparation at all. In the end, I was coerced into a settlement agreement I did not want to sign, with Colleen complaining beforehand about collecting more attorneys fees, and her not wanting to do a full day hearing. You'd honestly be better off representing yourself.

I paid Joel Fry to defend me against Connie Matthews on charges of domestic violence. Durango is a small town. Everyone knows everyone. Connie owned a business around the corner from Joel’s office.
I told Joel that Connie attacked me multiple times. That the third time she was attacking me I pushed her off. Police arrived and I was arrested.
Joel continued to tell me to plea guilty, because he said, “The Judge will send you to jail.”. I trusted him and did. It’s now on my record. I remember him saying, “You’re retired. This conviction will not affect you.”
It came to light that Connie, single and 60, knew Joel, single and 60 and they both pretended not to know one another.
From my experience Joel Fry is not honest.
So beware.

Looks like my review was unfairly taken down....guess this firm wants to keep my families experience hush hush. I TESTIFIED in court on behalf of my brother and the custody over my two nieces, we had two family meetings with Tyler plus I sent him a very long and lengthy email in November of 2023 that he never replied to yet charged my father $350 to read, which I don't believe he even read my email. So if this firm is trying to claim my review is not valid because I didn't hire Tyler myself they are incorrect!!! I was a part of this entire journey so for Google to take down my review after this firm reported it is not OK as I was involved with this case from beginning to end.- so here is my review again!!!! ZERO stars!!!! My father and brother hired Tyler Lambert to help my brother win his custody battle with his two young daughters. Tyler many times was very hard to get in touch with and would ignore phone calls over and over again. I kept telling my dad and brother that they needed to hire a new attorney because Tyler did not have my brothers best interest at heart. I wish they would've taken me a little more seriously however they felt they had invested so much money in him already that they stuck by him. Tyler showed no evidence in court to help my brother out... We submitted text messages, social media posts, conversations, photos of our family over the last 16 years with my brothers daughters, etc...Tyler used none of it in court. He had so much proof on my ex sister in law and how her attorney was blowing everything out of proportion plus evidence that could have made my brother's ex look really bad and prove she's a liar - but Tyler provided none of it and when they were claiming untrue statements about my brother he didn't object, not one time!!!! Tyler told all of us that were testifying on the stand that we needed to "be nice" and say "nice things" about my ex sister in law and that we should NOT provide any family photos as this judge doesn't like seeing family photos. Meanwhile the other side TRASHED my brother and they also showed a ton of photos - clearly Tyler's advice was the worst we could have taken. The end result were my nieces moving away with their mother to Illinois and pinning my brother as a bad father. He's an amazing father. He just has a bitter and scorned ex-wife that wanted to hurt him so badly that she used her own children for leverage. Do not hire Tyler if you are going through a custody battle with children... He does not care and will not show proof and documentation of what you give him to help your case out. He basically collected a paycheck and nothing more. Now my brother's daughters are in a fatherless environment because he failed to do his job properly. I WILL CONTINUE TO REPOST REVIEWS IF THIS ONE IS TAKEN DOWN - THIS EXPERIENCE WAS MY EXPERIENCE FIRSTHAND WITH TYLER!!!!!

James Cordes provided terrible advice. His drafting was sloppy and required extensive redrafting by opposing counsel, and he advised me to take a terrible deal. Because of James, I am taking home a fraction of my income. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize how bad it was until firing him and employing new counsel. He is a nice man, but a bad lawyer. I wish I had gotten a second opinion before it was too late.
