Updated review. I cannot stress to anybody reading this enough: who you hire matters and you get what you pay for. Attorney’s have case after case slide across their desk. It’s a job at the end of the day to most. If Aaron Shapiro or the force that is Amanda Schaffer takes your case, TRUST THEM. Full disclosure: I am a nightmare client. On a scale from 1-10, I’m an 11 in terms of annoying. My son is my absolute world. I have been a “white pony” more times than you can imagine. Over-billed. None of it made sense. Those attorneys cared about a paycheck. Aaron and Amanda are not only EXCELLENT attorneys, they’re good people. They have a backbone. Their time is valuable. They’re not cheap. Know that. When your child, freedom, or immigration status is on the line — don’t put it in the hands of someone who treats you like a file. He had me sign the retainer, pay almost $7000 and disappeared. He did not show up in court saying I still had to sign a form. I never received said form and he stopped answering altogether. I cannot believe he would do this to families in need of help.

Dear Joseph Sullivan, I am truly disappointed in your representation in our Father's claim. It's been 14 years since your firm has had our Father's claim. Our father has been deceased for years. We ask for updates but you have refused to speak to us. It's been 2 years since we heard from you. Our Father may not be a priority to you but he is definitely a priority to us. I'm very disappointed we really expected more from your firm. 14 years to process a claim is unheard of. And we still waiting. This is truly disgraceful. To give some background, my case involved – international divorce, kidnapping and international child custody. My priority had been to keep the family together at all personal cost and abuse. The sheer risk of the collateral damage if I were to speak out and take a stand seemed unbearable to me in terms of breaking the family, the trauma and debilitating effect it would bring to my kids. I had been going thru domestic abuse (I am a male) and had almost given hope that from history and precedents known to me made me believe that if I sought legal help it would be only be one way.
With encouragement from family and friends when I eventually set out to seek legal counsel most attorneys seem to have an experimental take on the situation, it would be a learning exercise for them with me as a guinea pig. Some jumped up with a very high retainer promising to get my kids in an unbelievably quick time. They were simplifying the process for me, hiding the details and fine prints that I would have to deal with anyway.
My case took over two years and I know a lot better now. Mr. Morley was my legal guide and in ways served as a therapist. He helped me on a day to day operational level when my case became very intense and at the more strategic level when I had to travel outside US to countries which were not part of the Hague convention. Mr. Morley’s network helped me connect to the right people in different parts of the world who helped me fight the custody battle from within US and from outside.
From the very beginning of the case, he had an overall strategy that gave me the courage to stand up and keep going. I have interacted with many lawyers related to my situation now. There are times we need a specialist's consultation and times we need a good referral and sometimes we may need to park ourselves and the case in the ICU. Mr. Morley helped to provide for all of these situations and his support and guidance was invaluable – in fact it spoiled my expectations when dealing with other lawyers.
Before I obtained the custody order my spouse slipped to another state with the child. With Mr. Morley's help I was able to chase her address and track my child and put her on the prevent departure program. It took a little over two years for my affairs to settle and to be able to restart life but these tiny victories helped in a long way, making me keep going.
Today, I look forward to life with hope - my kids are with me, they all know his name and voice from the many hours I have spent with him, thanks again to Mr. Morley. If you are considering to hire him here are my points:

Timeliness: 5 Stars

Overall Cost: Reasonable, given you will have a single stop to get the right diagnosis and all your needs, verses putting your money at different places.

Jeremy has been my lawyer for over 2 1/2 years. I read a previous comment about him overbilling and not being prepared and felt compelled to comment. I had an extremely difficult and complex case (and no, I am not wealthy parent). Jeremy has always been very honest in his billing with me and forthcoming and he was actually very reasonable compared to other lawyers I had to hire who charged me twice as much. He put together a game plan for me in my family custody issues/planning and today I would not be raising my child in a healthy environment had it not been for his counsel (gosh I may not even have my child with me). He is extremely competent and professional and if you hire him, you will have a formidable team for the other side to reckon with. To me, investing in my family like this was priceless and I cannot recommend him enough. And he is not the cheapest lawyer because he is the best in the world (he is considered an expert by all the US courts) at what he does and I would definitely say he is the best in the US too for family law in this area, and you get what you pay for. If you follow his advice, you will probably win.

Mr. Morley is an incredibly knowledgeable and bright attorney. I used him as an expert in a family law case to prove that California custody orders were not enforceable in Japan and the Court relied on his testimony to deny the opposing party's move away request. His website his also a phenomenal resource that I continue to use to this day.

This review is not for the lawyer but for her Assistants my case started a year ago and it has complete STRESS with her Assistants you call and leave messages and they don't call you back to get anything done and when you do they rush you off the phone are always answered by a call center never by someone who works there. I wouldn't recommend this lawyer the stress is not worth itneither is the 2000 she charges to have to deal with does unprofessional Assistants.

I hired Daniel Perlman in June, 2014 for divorce/custody case, and at first he was helpful, although I should have suspected something was amiss when I wrote 90% of the affidavit myself. For the next 20 months, he went missing for 2-4 months at a time, completely ignoring my calls, texts, and emails. It did not matter how urgent the request—such as the most recent, wherein I needed a visitation change because the schedule my ex had insisted upon was so erratic and unstable that it made me unable to find childcare--he ignored my messages completely.
Earlier in the process, he would arrange a call or a meeting and not call or not show up. After months of completely abandoning the case, he would briefly surface on occasion and do something small such as send a short letter. However, the resurfacing was completely unpredictable and had no logic. He ignored urgent matters involving my child’s most basic well-being and occasionally responded to minor matters that required little time or work on his part.
After the first couple instances of what became a pattern, I requested that he draw up a document committing to a time frame and reasonable responsiveness—and simply doing his job, but he did not respond to this request. Nor did he respond to my requests for invoices, refunds, and the return of my documents.
This pattern of negligence has occurred 5-6 times over the past 20 months. At the moment, it has been 2 ½ months since he has responded to requests for specific actions such as writing a letter regarding my ex’s inappropriate references to the case in front of our child (a letter Mr. Perlman said he would write and then disappeared), my urgent request for specific changes to the visitation schedule so that I can find stable childcare, updating me on the case, and, of course, finally filing the custody motion.
For months and months I have begged him to file the custody motion that he originally said he would file in August, 2014. He ignored my requests despite the urgency--the fact that my child is suffering. He refused to respond to my requests for him to simply take this crucial and obvious fundamental step that needed to be taken 18 months ago. Now, his failure to do the most basic part of his job has resulted in the complete sabotage of my case because the amount of time that has passed will make it look to any judge as if there is no cause for a change in the informal custodial/visitation arrangement.
Further, Mr. Perlman is also aware that I suffer from a progressive neurological disease that is exacerbated by stress, and he has done little but make me literally sick from anxiety and helplessness regarding my child's well-being. I hired him in June, 2014; it is now March, 2016, and not one single step of progress has been made since the divorce papers were filed almost two years ago. He has still not filed the custody motion, and he has merely ignored my attempts to end the miserable arrangement by requesting bills and a refund of my retainer fee.
I am a single mother with a disability, and this is how Mr. Perlman has treated me, presumably working under the assumption that I am powerless to secure basic professional and humane treatment. I can document everything I have written here, and I want to do my part to warn other clients, especially women of modest means with children, to avoid this attorney at all costs.

Although at least three times the bank insisted that I remain liable, Kenny persisted, writing letters, speaking to banking executives, and understanding the stress this kind this situation could put one through. Karen was assigned as the attorney for the child in my case, and it was a nightmare. She is supposed to tell the judge what the children want, but she does not do this. I think she lies to the judge regarding what the children tell her to suit her own agenda, which is usually in favor of the wealthier parent. She will say the children are confused or not sure what they want even when the children are begging to see the other parent more. I think she is not representing the child’s best interests. She becomes more powerful than the other side’s attorney against you, and then she bills and bills and bills to leave you with no money to defend yourself. If she is assigned to your case, do whatever you can to object or have her removed. She is the worst thing that happened to my divorce case.

I have known Jeff for years, as he shared an office with my attorney. He always seemed to be advocating for people in bad spots. Over a week ago I asked my attorney for his contact information as I have an issue with a storage unit that is leased in my building. Today is Friday and when I called to tell them I needed his help he told me it would have to wait until Monday. I included him on a copy of an email exchange - he called me back and told me he needed to respond immediately. He took that initiative and I am looking forward to a positive outcome. Jeff McAdams is AN OK ATTORNEY who is personable, caring, and professional, and who will represent you in a satisfactory manner. This Ivy educated barrister is a one-man show who is professorial in personality and style, generally trustworthy, but more of a negotiator than a litigator. A big possible problem with Jeff, however is that he is notorious for NOT returning phone calls to clients in a timely manner, and quite frankly, hopelessly lost and/or forgetful in tracking his cases without his able assistant. BOTTOM LINE: CLIENT BEWARE: If you can put up with unanswered messages left at his office, not being informed of the progress of your case, and wondering when work is going to be finished, then stick with him, otherwise out of frustration you'd be wise to find an attorney or law firm that is better able to be more attentive to your legal needs.

I hired Robyn because my ex-wife puts up hurdles against me seeing our daughter and I went to court to enforce an agreement we made. The court case was initiated by me and Robyn was later hired by me to support my cause. She also initiated a case in Supreme Court for which she appeared unprepared. I then decided that her support was actually not helping my cases. I also have strong reservations about her knowledge of the law which is limited since she gave me wring advice in several instances, such as the deadline to perfect an appeal in Manhattan Appeals Court which she said was six months but in fact is nine months (not the only instance of obvious mistakes). Other issues were here representing me in court which went better for me without her.
