When I first contacted Attorney Howlette, I was at one of my lowest points. I tearfully told him it was probably too late to do anything with case. In the kindest way possible, Attorney Howlette reassured me that it was “never too late” and that he knew how to handle my case. A great weight was lifted off of me that day. Ever since, Attorney Howlette and his colleagues have shown up with their A game. We are still battling my case in court but I am confident in Attorney Howlette’s abilities. I am beyond grateful to Attorney Howlette and his team on my side.

We are absolutely thrilled with the Howlette Law Firm and the incredibly detailed, meticulous case they’ve built for us. It’s given us renewed faith in the justice system—reminding us that justice isn’t an entitlement for a select few but a right for all of us. The team’s dedication to our case, coupled with their exceptional level of client engagement, has been beyond impressive. Jordan Howlette, in particular, stands out as a shining example of what a true ‘super attorney’ should be. As a fellow veteran, I have to give him a special shout-out and say, ‘Keep doing what you’re doing!’ The commitment and respect he shows to his clients are truly inspiring, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

From the very beginning, Attorney Jordan Howlette has been approachable and incredibly easy to work with. He listens carefully, without any hint of impatience, and it’s clear he genuinely wants to understand the full scope of the issue. His attentiveness is rare, and it makes a huge difference. Jordan is also extremely resourceful--he always seems to know where to turn or what approach to try next. As a veteran, he truly understands the importance of service, which in his case goes beyond simply providing legal advice. He recognizes that service means putting others first, ensuring that they feel supported, respected, and valued throughout the process. I don’t feel like just a client or a number with Jordan; I feel like I have a real advocate in my corner, genuinely committed to fighting for the best possible outcome for me. If you’re looking for an attorney who’s more than just a professional but also an ally, I highly recommend him.

I contacted Ms. Bernabei during a very stressful time, to try to get some idea of my options after22 my job was eliminated during the height of the COVID epidemic. The top-notch firm staff got back to me very quickly for an interview, and then arranged to set up an hour-long meeting. Ms. Bernabei gave me terrific guidance on the information I should gather to help them assess my situation, then in an hour, I was walked through in a very realistic manner the process going forward. I would recommend Ms. Bernabei and her firm 100 percent!

I was exceptionally pleased with Lynne as my attorney. As a single mother who had just relocated across the country, my case was very stressful emotionally and financially. Her guidance, compassion, and attentiveness was extremely helpful. I was pleased with the outcome of the case and felt that she gave me great guidance and support throughout the entire process. I highly recommend her to anyone that has an employment, sexual harassment or discrimination case in the DC area.

Eric and his team through the use of his legal acumen and the use of Ai and other technology achieve for me a result that was fair and balanced. He listened intently to my needs and concerns throughout the legal process and structured a settlement which allowed me to avoid lengthy and expensive litigation. He also structured the settlement in such a way as to ensure no future litigation and appeals could take place. I am beyond happy and grateful to Eric Siegel and his team of crack lawyers. He worked long hours and tirelessly to achieve a successful settlement. He was available 24/7 as he advertises and has intimate knowledge of the legal system and how to achieve the best result fairly and quickly. He took over the case midstream which is even more difficult and was able to grasp the legal implications and minute detials of the case within days of taking over. He came highly recommended by my company’s counsel and I could not be happier for this recommendation. He is everything and more as a barrister. He get small details and leaves no issue unturned or to chance for the other side to contest. I was particularly impressed when he was able to settle the case when all winds would indicate that it could not be settled and litigation in court was the only option. He took over one failed settlement discussion and achieved a fair and balanced settlement within days. As a client I am proud to say he is the finest attorney I have ever had the pleasure of working with and would happily recommend him to any person in need of legal representation from the most assertive and hardworking attorney in the metropolitan Washington area or any area for that matter.

One of the most honest and caring attorneys I have dealt with. I randomly choose Eric after so much disappointment from a previous attorney. He was able to somewhat turn my employment situation around. While the final outcome was not what I anticipated, my final settlement was able to at lease recover attorney fees. If you are in search of a knowledgeable attorney who not only cares about your legal issues, but takes time to ask and care about your personal life, I highly recommend Mr. Eric siegel.

I suspect many are like me and when you're looking for an attorney (not related to routine business/personal matters), it's about one of the worst times in your life. There is so much uncertainty, anxiety and you want the BEST attorney to represent you. Someone that is going aggressively and steadfastly look out for your interests at every juncture, provide sage guidance and prod you when you need it and almost needless to say, be absolutely competent in their field. Eric Siegel delivered all that in spades. He worked tirelessly to move the case along to a final resolution (settlement). His attention to detail, his follow through, his confidant drive to win is exemplary. My case involved a construction contract dispute that was just about to bankrupt me. Our family has worked with business attorneys in the past and while they were fine, I wanted someone of a different caliber. I spent an ungodly amount of time doing online research. I suspect many of us may find our attorneys this way when we're in dire straights. I hope my efforts will save you some time. My advice is close your browser, contact Mr. Siegel's office, you won't find anyone better. Lastly, I was almost not going to contact him, because AVVO states only 5% of his practice is dedicated to construction. However his reviews were so good I made the outreach and good thing that I did. That 5% means nothing - he is so knowledgeable about the construction industry, contract law, homeowner's right, etc. It's as if 100% of his practice is dedicated to this arena. Hiring Mr. Siegel was one of the best decisions I could have made in this case and I would absolutely recommend him to anyone that requires an attorney.

Ms. Axmith is a lawyer who most definitely stands out. I called her office to leave a message at 10 pm and was surprised to find she picked up the phone because she was working late on a case. She gave me some initial advice that put me at ease, and didn't charge any consultation fees. My initial impression of her is that she is a very experienced and no-nonsense lawyer who would go to bat for you if you were being threatened or intimidated. I really liked her from the get go because I felt she was on my side without judging me or making me feel small. I walked away feeling empowered and less befuddled. I would definitely recommend calling her if you are in a bind and she will help you or steer you in the right direction. All the best to you, your clients and your endeavors Ms. Axmith.

Attorney Brendan Klaproth ...As good as it gets! Amazing Attorney. Courageous. Credible. Competitive. Conqueror. Compassionate. 1. He took my case after other attorney's told me they wouldn't know how to get it done. 2. He was always straight with me and other attorneys gave him great references. 3. 1st he thinks. He strategizes. He fights. He wins!!! He won my case! 4. He has positive energy and a sense of command that put me at ease. *5. My favorite - He listened, heard/felt my pain, advised me, kept me informed, and reminded me that trusting was okay; there are some people who'd keep my best interests at heart. Fact: No amount of money can erase pain; but, the walk through your tough days can be eased when you have the right support in your corner. I am grateful Attorney Brendan Klaproth handled my case. Brendan's work on my smallish (5 - 10k) claim against my condominium association was professional and competent. His rate of $300/hour was fair and he was conservative in his billing time. First and foremost, I would like to thank you for all the help you have given me during these past months with the sale of the house and my TOPA rights. I couldn’t have done it all without your consistent effort to make sure I was not taken advantage of because of my TOPA rights. I really appreciate all you did, especially your attentiveness for both us. You were always available when I needed you no matter if you were out of town. You always make it seems as if you were only a phone call or an email away. You continuously made sure I was taken care of even if it was just an email to let me know you are on the case. You are a very good lawyer and don't ever give up that attentiveness you give to your customers. On a scale from 1-10, I give you an 11. I would recommend you to anyone that needs the assistant of a lawyer. You were there even if it was just to listen to me ranting and raving about the unscrupulous nature of the way other people was handling thing.

I met Lorenzo Cellini in August 2007 and was very impressed with the "can do" attitude from a young, hard-driving attorney. Lorenzo is a very detailed and personable attorney who appears to love his job. I feel he welcomes a challenge. During the entire process of my case, Lorenzo kept me informed about every event and would spend countless hours with me in order to get the facts. I was very impressed with Lorenzo during one of our mediation sessions when he refused to allow the opposing counsel an opportunity to take advantage of me. Lorenzo had all the supporting facts in every statement he made. He is a warrior. I must say that having the right attorney is what made the difference in my case. I would highly recommend Lorenzo to anyone who needs a professional, dedicated attorney; one who does not mind being in the trenches and fighting with you. I would not hesitate to seek his assistance again should a similar situation arise.

In 2015, I was asked by my medical school to leave the M.D. program citing my academic under-performance. At that time, I had serious family obligations, due to which I could not fully dedicate my time at the school. I could not take time off of school either because my 'green card' application was still pending-- anything that would jeopardize my immigration status in the US would possibly affect my green card approval. Despite my numerous attempts, I had not been able to get an appointment with a physician at the medical school's student clinic. Later, I found out that the months of delay in referral to a psychiatrist was because of clerical incompetence at the clinic, who was later fired of the job. In February 2015, I was diagnosed with moderately severe depression and moderate anxiety and put on medication by a physician's assistant (PA), after I my plea to see any medical profession at the clinic. Soon after, I was able to see an actual psychiatrist due to urgent referral of the PA. The psychiatrist, after evaluating my situations, wrote a 4-page long letter to the medical school for a 'medical leave of absence'. The school took another 2 months, sending my case from committee to committee, to finally dismissing me from the school sticking to the academic under-performance reason. They made these decisions without letting me testify in person, even though I was allowed to do so before the official MLOA was submitted. This is when I was able to get a hold of Karen Bower. Under her consultation, I requested my educational records from the university, including all the communication among individuals at the medical school, relating to the decision of dismissal. It was discovered that the committees believed that I made up stories to make a case, and that they did not believe the complex situation I was under because of family and immigration issues. It was under Karen's guidance that I finally put a complaint under the Office of Civil Rights at the Department of Education. Since, I am still pursuing to go to a medical school, I did not want to take it to the courts, and wanted to get it over with, I ended up signing a resolution agreement that changed my 'dismissal' to 'withdrawal' but would prevent me from applying to the same medical school again. This was the best resolution given the circumstances I was in, and I thank Karen for pushing me to make it happen. On a personal level, I want to thank you, Karen, for being there for me, when it seemed like the whole world was against me.

Ms. Bower reviewed my situation and clearly explained the options and how we should proceed during every stage of my case. She kept me informed and updated on a regular basis and she was able to get me back in school when it seemed that not only would I have to transfer but that I was going to lose credits in the process. Thanks to her guidance and advocacy, my college career is back on track.

I am extremely satisfied with the quality of legal service provided by Murad Khan. Murad is a great attorney but in addition, he is an really nice guy who really cares about his clients. He offered insightful solutions to my business and legal problems. I found him to be pragmatic, honest and someone with highly-developed interpersonal skills (which really helped during intense negotiations). Murad helped my business tactfully mediate a major dispute and successfully negotiate and execute the resulting contracts. In fact, my company had spent 8 months negotiating this deal and it was at risk of imploding. Luckily, Murad and his team were there to help advocate for us and bring us to a successful and fair resolution. I would definitely recommend Murad and his firm.

We had a very successful outcome for our legal case that allowed us to stabilize our family's life after a brain injury. Yet it was the process of the case that was as important to us, because we had so much to manage medically, emotionally, and mentally, during this challenging time. Chris Nace and his excellent team didn't involve us unless they needed our attention, allowing us to place our focus where it was required, in our healing. Also, they spent time answering our questions, no matter how trivial, since we had never used a lawyer except in the creation of our wills. We felt prepared for the case, and informed of our options, but yet not burdened by too much information. We were given adequate preparation for the next steps, but we were not overwhelmed by a multitude of responsibilities. As part of their client care, we were able to help protect our children and other family members from the rigors of an adversarial environment, and to go on with our lives instead of being involved in legal matters. Frankly, it was Nace's straight talk that brought us to Chris and his father Barry, and it was their compassionate response and awareness of our situation that kept us optimistic through the inevitable ups and downs of this long, convoluted process. I would recommend Chris Nace without hesitation, as he has the kind of doggedness and integrity that you want on your side, and because this organization has the expertise and experience that makes a level playing field out of the surprises and biases of the legal system.

I have had the pleasure of working with Mr. Fein in a 1983 civil suit. His legal abilities are exemplary. He is unlike most lawyers. He actually wants to hear from his clients. Communication is essential for a successful litigation. He does not stifle that. He realizes that the client knows more about what happened than he does. Too many lawyers feel they know everything. You will not find a better lawyer to represent you.

What can I say? I was involved in a crash over a year and a half ago, it turned out that I had some pretty severe back issues as a result of that. I immediately contacted Simeone & Miller, within 2 days I was in their office meeting with them. I was extremely nervous, didn't know how this would all turn out, knowing what medical bills are these days, Mike and Kiara (paralegal) kept me calm and educated throughout the entire process. There were some tough conversations and things that I didn't want to hear. The one thing Mike kept telling me was this all takes time. Well he was right, I can't say enough great things about this firm. I feel like we just ended a personal relationship with the conclusion of the case. I hope I never need to call them again other than to say hi. However, if I do I know once again I will be in great hands.

I met Craig as apart of Bosson Legal Group... so this isn't as much a review for him ONLY as much as at is for the entire team: (I couldn't find the entire group on AVOO) :( At the start, my case truly felt insurmountable. I had never dealt with needing an attorney for racial discrimination in the workplace before and had no idea where to begin. Not to mention, I had only heard horror stories from others who'd had to hire an attorney for various reasons. People warned me that with my case in particular, the entire process would take FOREVER and that I would more than likely deal with a "lying thief of an attorney" because "they [were] all the same" anyway. I am BEYOND pleased to say that this was NOT AT ALL the case dealing with Craig and Bosson Legal Group. From the very beginning, Craig made me feel nothing but safe and taken care of. He listened to my story in full; Never once rushing me, belittling me or hurrying me. He even offered numerous, sincere apologies for what I had been through. I couldn't believe that I was receiving such authentic and genuine empathy from a LAWYER. What's more, is that he worked with where I was financially and allowed me to pay him in "good faith" when I couldn't afford it. As my case progressed, I was passed from Craig to Tim but not in a way that even once made me feel discarded. Craig made sure he let me know that he remained accessible to me and Tim was just as WONDERFUL. It seemed that as soon as I would get antsy, before even having the chance to bring it up to Tim, he would read my mind, reach out and say, "Hey haven't forgotten you. We're still fighting for you!" And that's exactly what he and his entire team did. My case was resolved abnormally fast, which I believe is because I was in such excellent hands. The only thing I would've like to see a little different was that: I often wonder sometimes if I should've fought a little further/a little harder for more compensation that I deserved. But during some conversations, I wasn't confident that we could win if I chose to go further which is slightly disheartening. But to be fair, that doesn't necessarily mean it's reflective of Tim's abilities. It could just be that it truly wasn't going to benefit me to keep going forward. I only had one other slight concern with how my ending balance made a little bit of a jump that I wasn't anticipating. But, Tim did send me a breakdown explaining this later. Trust me when I say... You simply will not be in better hands with anyone else than you would be if you were with Craig Welkener and Bosson Legal Group. I mean that sincerely. They are the dream team. I can't thank you ENOUGH, guys.

I contacted Lescht & Associates in March 2010, when I was told by my employer that he was taking away a multimillion dollar client. that I brought to the company. I am a commission only sales person and after working to secure this client for months without being paid, I asked for a committment in writing from my employer. After receiving the committment and several orders from this client the company terminated me. The first thing Mr. Lescht did was send a letter to the company.stating I had retained his services. He did this the same week I met him. I was impressed by how fast Mr. Lescht responded to my case. Mr. Lescht filed suit in PG County and constantly kept me informed of the status of the case. A court date was set and Mr. Lescht worked with me so I would be prepared to testify. Bottom line Mr Lescht WON the case and I will receive all the commissions due me. Mr. Lescht is an excellent Trial Lawyer, He is calm, cool, and collected. He is very methodical and he stays on point. After the trial, several people commented on how professional my attorney was and how he was able to make his point with very few words.

I cannot imagine a better individual representing me than Alan Lescht. During a long, and at times frustrating, process Alan provided excellent guidance, and answered every question I had with a clear and helpful answer. Whenever I called or emailed Alan got back to me quickly, and kept me informed of all dealings with the opposing side. In all of my dealings with the office everyone was friendly, helpful and supportive. In the end my complaint was resolved very satisfactorily and a level of closure was achieved that will help me move on. I am very satisfied with choice in lawyer I made, and I would recommend Alan to anyone facing similar issues.

What a Civil Rights Lawyer Can Do for You

A civil rights lawyer focuses on protecting individuals whose constitutional rights have been violated by government authorities, employers, or private organizations. These lawyers specialize in cases involving discrimination, police misconduct, freedom of speech, and other fundamental rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws, such as the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Fair Housing Act.

Whether you've been discriminated against due to race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics, or you believe your civil rights have been violated by a government entity, a civil rights lawyer can help you seek justice, hold wrongdoers accountable, and secure compensation for any harm you've suffered.

When Should I Hire a Civil Rights Lawyer?

You should hire a civil rights lawyer when your constitutional rights or other protected rights have been violated, and you need legal assistance to seek justice. Some key situations in which you may need a civil rights lawyer include:

  • Employment discrimination: If you have faced discrimination at work based on race, gender, age, religion, national origin, or disability, a civil rights lawyer can help you file claims under laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Police misconduct or brutality: If you were the victim of police brutality, unlawful arrest, racial profiling, or other forms of misconduct, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit for violations of your Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
  • Freedom of speech or assembly violations: If your First Amendment rights to free speech or peaceful assembly have been restricted by the government, a civil rights lawyer can represent you in challenging the violation.
  • Housing discrimination: If you’ve been denied housing or faced unfair treatment due to your race, ethnicity, gender, or disability, a lawyer can help you file a complaint under the Fair Housing Act.
  • Voter rights violations: If you believe your right to vote has been unfairly suppressed or you’ve faced discrimination in the voting process, a civil rights lawyer can help you fight for your rights.
  • Disability rights violations: If you’ve faced discrimination in accessing public spaces, employment, or services due to a disability, a lawyer can help enforce your rights under the ADA.
  • LGBTQ+ rights violations: If you've experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, or public services, a civil rights lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.

Hiring a lawyer early on can help you understand your legal options and build a strong case to protect your rights.

What Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Do?

A civil rights lawyer provides legal representation and advocacy to individuals whose rights have been violated. Their work can include:

  • Filing lawsuits: A civil rights lawyer can represent you in court by filing lawsuits against individuals, businesses, or government entities that violated your rights.
  • Advocating for policy changes: Civil rights lawyers often engage in advocacy work, pushing for reforms to laws and policies that infringe upon people's rights.
  • Representing clients in discrimination claims: These lawyers help clients file claims with federal or state agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, civil rights lawyers work to negotiate settlements for their clients before a case goes to trial, securing compensation for damages such as lost wages, emotional distress, or legal fees.
  • Defending freedom of expression: Lawyers may represent clients whose rights to free speech, assembly, or protest were violated by government restrictions or other actions.
  • Handling appeals: If your civil rights case has been decided but you wish to appeal the ruling, a civil rights lawyer can help you through the appeals process.

How Are Civil Rights Lawyers Paid?

Civil rights lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many civil rights lawyers work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win your case. Their fee is typically a percentage (usually 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that require extensive legal research or litigation, some lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some civil rights lawyers or organizations may work on a pro bono (free) basis or use a sliding fee scale for clients who cannot afford typical legal fees.
  • Flat fee: In specific cases, a lawyer may charge a flat fee for services like drafting legal documents or filing a complaint.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a civil rights lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal issue. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fee cases: For cases taken on a contingency basis, the lawyer’s fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Many civil rights lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For straightforward legal tasks, such as filing a complaint with a government agency or drafting legal documents, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Pro bono work: Some civil rights lawyers or nonprofit organizations provide free legal representation in certain cases involving important constitutional or civil rights issues.

Be sure to ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation to understand the financial commitment involved.

Top Questions to Ask a Civil Rights Lawyer

Before hiring a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with civil rights cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s employment discrimination, police misconduct, or First Amendment violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my case?
Ask the lawyer to provide an honest assessment of your case, including the strengths, weaknesses, and potential outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Inquire about the lawyer’s experience in cases with similar facts and legal issues.
  5. What is the timeline for resolving my case?
While exact timelines can vary, ask for an estimate of how long your case may take, from filing to resolution.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may work on parts of your case, so it’s important to know who will handle your legal matter directly.

How to Check the Credibility of a Civil Rights Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable civil rights lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific civil rights experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in civil rights law and have a history of handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience with civil rights cases.
  • Check for advocacy or nonprofit work: Lawyers involved with civil rights organizations, such as the ACLU or NAACP Legal Defense Fund, may have a strong reputation in the civil rights legal community.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A detailed account of the violation: Provide a written summary of the events, including dates, times, and any people involved in the violation of your rights.
  • Documentation and evidence: Bring any supporting documentation, such as emails, letters, photos, or video footage that may help prove the violation of your rights.
  • Records of complaints or reports: If you’ve filed complaints with a government agency or reported the violation, bring copies of those documents.
  • List of questions: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes of your case.
  • Information on damages or harm: Be prepared to discuss the harm you’ve suffered due to the violation, such as emotional distress, financial loss, or physical injury.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
