I cannot recommend this car accident lawyer firm enough! From the very beginning, they were incredibly attentive and truly customer-oriented. Their professionalism and dedication were evident at every step of the process. They maintained excellent communication throughout, always keeping me informed and answering all my questions promptly. What impressed me the most was how seamlessly they handled my case. They provided top-notch representation in court, and thanks to their expertise, my case was dismissed without any hassle or negative impact on my record. They made what could have been a stressful experience completely painless. If you’re looking for a legal team that genuinely cares about their clients and delivers outstanding results, this is the one. Thank you so much for everything!

Tracey Harkins is a fierce and compassionate defense attorney. She is incredibly bright and attentive. We hired her to navigate a family defense case. Finding yourselves in this unimaginably difficult legal battle requires representation that is confident, informed and diligent. Tracey is pragmatic and strong; but she always had time to listen and encourage us. She navigated us to a swift and definitive dismissal. We will always be so grateful to have worked with Tracey and her firm.

Words simply don’t do enough to express my genuine gratitude for Young and her Teams support in handling my husbands immigration case. We first connected with Young about a year ago to adjust my husband’s status as he overstayed his visa. I found Young through my legal insurance offered by my job with MetLife, Young acted quickly once we contacted her office and shared our love story and its legal challenges of immigration. Young became enthralled with our story and was confident that she could help us adjust my husband’s status, and assist with all applicable applications. Young is an expert Immigration Attorney! She is extremely efficient and knowledgeable, and helped us tremendously with all the immigration procedures. We had some interesting bumps along the way, not the fault of our wonderful attorney, but by USCIS itself. Young stood right beside us, literally and figuratively to ensure we understood all legal matters and future proceedings. It was an emotionally exhausting case since we had a surprising second interview, with too many complexities involved to understand, but Young and her team, along with their strategic thinking and bold advocacy helped us achieve a favorable outcome. In the height of political turmoil, this process was simply draining, and I mean real tears at times. Young instilled so much faith and reassurance in my husband and myself, we interviewed with confidence. Exceptional service and results is an understatement, I can go on and on, maybe even chapters! I’m beyond grateful, what a friend she has in me forever and beyond! Now we can travel, worry free and experience all the world has to offer together. Simply amazing, and highly recommend!

So glad I chose Corey to help me with my case. From the very first call during a nerve wracking time. He made me calm down and reassured me that he could help me out and that everything was going to be alright. He was is confident in his work and knows what he is doing. He even went out of his way to go to court to change my court date due to a trip to Bulgaria that was booked prior to my big mistake I made. He was able to get me out of this mess without having my three precious children taken from me. I will be forever grateful for that. Also after my case was closed he called to check in with me and to reassure me again that this would be off my record. Also that he is there for me if I ever need anything not just as a lawyer but also a friend, that truly made me feel good. Greatly appreciate his support and service. Would definitely recommend. Thank you again 🙏from Diana Dimitrova

Daniel Hernandez is one of the most arrogant people I have ever chatted with. In 2024 i was stupid enough to pay this guy a fee to bid a flat rate for my contested divorce. He took 2-4 weeks to actually bid his rate after i initially contacted his fantastic dream team. After the bidding was done I nicely explained that his final flat fee for the final court hearing needed to be defined in a more precise manner because his vague bid of $10,000 per day was totally unjustified because every trial judge has different amount of court time for their specific courtroom. I asked him to provide the rates for half days , 1/4 days etc. This was totally reasonable on my part because his original flat rate for months before the trial was monthly and much less. His entire concept of getting involved in the case was on a limited scope basis so he could milk clients for the final week of billing which on average when you do the math comes to $400 to $1000 per hour . He makes Ridiculous statements to cover his high rates such as there is three hours of research time for every actual one hour of court time. He sounds like an average car salesman at best and I could see right through his silly billing arrangement to milk clients totally and make him look cheap and reasonably costing. Daniel does not have that many years of experience and has not attended a prestigious law school to charge Steve type of ridiculous rates. The bare Milagro best a top divorce farm in Illinois and has staff are superior to him and they charge about 350 an hour to 400 an hour. His rates are completely unfair, and he has a very arrogant man for thinking that he is worth more or the same as a Bierman attorney. Also paying an attorney to cherry pick the case and toss out a flat rate is borderline unethical. I also don’t appreciate him wasting my time telling me that his office lady would give specific rates for the final trial. He also had other fixed rates mixed into his monthly and daily rates so it’s very difficult to compare his price action to anougher legal firm. But I have to hand it to him he is a robotic machine that probably has made himself Multibillionaire thru very little effort and low case volume. The part of his quotation where he doesn’t even agree to rep you for the final trial flat rate that was the final flat rate is borderline unethical. Most decent flat rate attorneys charge like $3000 to $5000 per day. Is $10,000 per day is totally ridiculous and he does not deserve this kind of money even if he went to Yale law school which he did not go to. I believe he went to John Marshall which is mostly at night school or school of that level. And the fact that he chooses to only handle divorce cases shows that this man has no work ethic whatsoever, and he’s basically milking himself a segment, where people are very ignorant, and he can take advantage of them. I get nauseous, thinking of his argumentation and sales court routine. He almost sounds like a pimp, trying to get the most money for his goods.

Not all lawyers are created equal. That being said, most lawyers I personally encountered only cared about dragging things out and making themselves richer at the expense of the people that they were representing. Mr. Arkady Reifman shines above the rest b/c he truly cares about his clients and goes above and beyond to make sure that not only things are done right, but in a timely manner. He is very available, returns your phone calls promptly and explains everything about the process in clear detail. I would highly recommend Mr. Reifman, not just for divorce matters, but also for any law matter that he practices. Bottom line - he is awesome!

I chose Tom as my USCCA (United States Concealed Carry Association) representative to ensure I’d have expert support as a firearm owner if needed. Years after our initial consultation and retainer payment, I encountered a situation that concerned me and could have potentially escalated into a more serious issue. Late on a Friday evening, I left him a voicemail, not expecting a response until the following week. To my surprise, he returned my call that same evening, addressing my concerns promptly and reassuring me that the issue was manageable. By Monday, as he predicted, the matter was resolved, and my worries proved to be unfounded. While I can’t delve into the details of the legal concern, what stood out was Tom’s expertise in evaluating the situation and his accurate assessment of its likely outcome. His professionalism and swift action gave me immense peace of mind during a stressful time. Now, one word of caution: as a client, I started receiving some really interesting articles from Tom's practice—on topics spanning all aspects of his practice. Most weren’t from Tom directly but from others in his firm. One day, my wife stormed in, furious, holding my phone like it was evidence in a courtroom. “Why,” she demanded, “are there emails about divorce in your inbox?” Now, we have a great relationship, so once I explained they were from Tom's firm, tied to his retainer, we both had a good laugh. But let me just say this: if your spouse happens to be the jealous type—especially one with a flair for dramatics—you might want to give them a heads-up. Otherwise, your next legal concern might involve trying to prove your spouse's attempt to stage a “mysterious accident.”

I had a case with them several years ago. This firm did OK work on my case. I could tell they are a high volume personal injury firm. They did adequate work on my case, and I was happy with what I walked away with. I regret not going back to them. Instead, I tried another firm (and instead left kind of a nasty, albeit truthful comment on their Google review board.).

I swear if I can give 0 stars I would, this firm has been handling my case since 2023, and I dun had 3 different lawyers while dealing with my case WHY??? I don’t know they don’t communicate with their clients AT ALL and I’ve been lied to multiple times about my offer status. I will not recommend this firm to anyone ESPECIALLY due to their lack of communication with their attorneys. I’m looking for a good law firm to go through I am willing to start my process over at this point it’ll be worth it. And I will comment a review via google and Facebook until I see some results 💯

After my dad passed away in April 2024, my mom and I filed for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) through the VA. Despite working with a VA liaison and following up for 10 months, we received no real updates—just that the claim was still pending. Then, my mom received a notice from the VA, which she mistakenly believed was a denial of the DIC claim. Unfortunately, even the local VA liaison misinterpreted it, causing a lot of confusion. Given that my dad’s passing was clearly linked to his disability, we realized we needed legal representation and turned to James Comerford. From our first conversation, James took the time to listen, understand our situation, and guide us through the process. Initially, we thought we needed to file a rebuttal, but after investigating, he discovered the VA had actually misinformed us—the claim was still being processed. He assured us he would follow up, and shortly after, he called with the great news: the claim had been approved. Not only did he get us answers, but he also knew exactly when my mom would receive her benefits, including back pay. When I asked James what we owed him, he refused payment—he was simply happy my mom received what she deserved. Even after I insisted, he suggested we make a donation to a charity instead, which we did. His generosity, professionalism, and genuine care for his clients truly set him apart. If you're looking for a knowledgeable, responsive, and compassionate attorney who will fight for you and keep you informed every step of the way, I highly recommend James Comerford. He’s not just a great lawyer—he’s a good person who truly cares -Gary Hahn

What a Civil Rights Lawyer Can Do for You

A civil rights lawyer focuses on protecting individuals whose constitutional rights have been violated by government authorities, employers, or private organizations. These lawyers specialize in cases involving discrimination, police misconduct, freedom of speech, and other fundamental rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws, such as the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Fair Housing Act.

Whether you've been discriminated against due to race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics, or you believe your civil rights have been violated by a government entity, a civil rights lawyer can help you seek justice, hold wrongdoers accountable, and secure compensation for any harm you've suffered.

When Should I Hire a Civil Rights Lawyer?

You should hire a civil rights lawyer when your constitutional rights or other protected rights have been violated, and you need legal assistance to seek justice. Some key situations in which you may need a civil rights lawyer include:

  • Employment discrimination: If you have faced discrimination at work based on race, gender, age, religion, national origin, or disability, a civil rights lawyer can help you file claims under laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Police misconduct or brutality: If you were the victim of police brutality, unlawful arrest, racial profiling, or other forms of misconduct, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit for violations of your Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
  • Freedom of speech or assembly violations: If your First Amendment rights to free speech or peaceful assembly have been restricted by the government, a civil rights lawyer can represent you in challenging the violation.
  • Housing discrimination: If you’ve been denied housing or faced unfair treatment due to your race, ethnicity, gender, or disability, a lawyer can help you file a complaint under the Fair Housing Act.
  • Voter rights violations: If you believe your right to vote has been unfairly suppressed or you’ve faced discrimination in the voting process, a civil rights lawyer can help you fight for your rights.
  • Disability rights violations: If you’ve faced discrimination in accessing public spaces, employment, or services due to a disability, a lawyer can help enforce your rights under the ADA.
  • LGBTQ+ rights violations: If you've experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, or public services, a civil rights lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.

Hiring a lawyer early on can help you understand your legal options and build a strong case to protect your rights.

What Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Do?

A civil rights lawyer provides legal representation and advocacy to individuals whose rights have been violated. Their work can include:

  • Filing lawsuits: A civil rights lawyer can represent you in court by filing lawsuits against individuals, businesses, or government entities that violated your rights.
  • Advocating for policy changes: Civil rights lawyers often engage in advocacy work, pushing for reforms to laws and policies that infringe upon people's rights.
  • Representing clients in discrimination claims: These lawyers help clients file claims with federal or state agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, civil rights lawyers work to negotiate settlements for their clients before a case goes to trial, securing compensation for damages such as lost wages, emotional distress, or legal fees.
  • Defending freedom of expression: Lawyers may represent clients whose rights to free speech, assembly, or protest were violated by government restrictions or other actions.
  • Handling appeals: If your civil rights case has been decided but you wish to appeal the ruling, a civil rights lawyer can help you through the appeals process.

How Are Civil Rights Lawyers Paid?

Civil rights lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many civil rights lawyers work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win your case. Their fee is typically a percentage (usually 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that require extensive legal research or litigation, some lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some civil rights lawyers or organizations may work on a pro bono (free) basis or use a sliding fee scale for clients who cannot afford typical legal fees.
  • Flat fee: In specific cases, a lawyer may charge a flat fee for services like drafting legal documents or filing a complaint.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a civil rights lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal issue. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fee cases: For cases taken on a contingency basis, the lawyer’s fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Many civil rights lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For straightforward legal tasks, such as filing a complaint with a government agency or drafting legal documents, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Pro bono work: Some civil rights lawyers or nonprofit organizations provide free legal representation in certain cases involving important constitutional or civil rights issues.

Be sure to ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation to understand the financial commitment involved.

Top Questions to Ask a Civil Rights Lawyer

Before hiring a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with civil rights cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s employment discrimination, police misconduct, or First Amendment violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my case?
Ask the lawyer to provide an honest assessment of your case, including the strengths, weaknesses, and potential outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Inquire about the lawyer’s experience in cases with similar facts and legal issues.
  5. What is the timeline for resolving my case?
While exact timelines can vary, ask for an estimate of how long your case may take, from filing to resolution.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may work on parts of your case, so it’s important to know who will handle your legal matter directly.

How to Check the Credibility of a Civil Rights Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable civil rights lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific civil rights experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in civil rights law and have a history of handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience with civil rights cases.
  • Check for advocacy or nonprofit work: Lawyers involved with civil rights organizations, such as the ACLU or NAACP Legal Defense Fund, may have a strong reputation in the civil rights legal community.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A detailed account of the violation: Provide a written summary of the events, including dates, times, and any people involved in the violation of your rights.
  • Documentation and evidence: Bring any supporting documentation, such as emails, letters, photos, or video footage that may help prove the violation of your rights.
  • Records of complaints or reports: If you’ve filed complaints with a government agency or reported the violation, bring copies of those documents.
  • List of questions: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes of your case.
  • Information on damages or harm: Be prepared to discuss the harm you’ve suffered due to the violation, such as emotional distress, financial loss, or physical injury.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
