I hired Brandon Brown to defend me on an Animal Neglect charge. At our very first meeting I learned that Mr Brown is an honest and upfront person. He spoke with so much confidence. With his professionalism and how well he considered my concerns I knew he was the right person for my case and I was absolutely correct! I only appeared in court twice for this case and on the second round Mr Brown beat my case and charges were dismissed!!! I recommend Brandon Brown to anyone who’s looking to hire an attorney.

Attorney Brown was very courteous and thorough in response to my needs. He listened to my concerns and took special measures to address the specific needs related to my brother's case. He frequently asked if we had additional questions, taking time to answer our questions. He represented us in a highly professional manner, facilitating the best defense possible. Particularly, he communicated my brothers health needs to the court and followed through on our behalf to obtain appropriate considerations and care for him.

My experience/journey with Courtney Kelledes has been a pleasant and knowledgeable one. I contacted her for help with a years long ongoing situation which had been taken upon by other lawyers with no resolve. After explaining my situations and concerns she informed me that she would contact me after reviewing my info with her partners. I was contacted back shortly where she told me, while she could not make guarantees she and her partners did find merit in my cause, requests and ultimately my goal. From there Courtney laid out a precise step by step strategy with options for said steps. After that it was blast off as she went to work on my behave legally while thoroughly explaining steps, goals, expectations and timelines. She always kept an open ear to my concerns being that I had not had the best if not down right bad experience dealing with the various organizations in past attempts. Courtney always heard my voice and broke down said concerns with answers that I could understand as it applied to the law and my situation. She was always upfront as she pointed out the upside and possible downsides and always had a plan to address any and all possibilities. I appreciated Courtney’s patience with me as there were times due to the courts, law enforcement and past covid 19 fallout the results, while when realized were favorable, seemed to go beyond what would have been thought typical time wise which was frustrating but even then that’s when she showed her value and diligence as she never let department drag go without inquiry on my behalf. Courtney represented me and performed her duties as my lawyer as I always wanted from my initial attempts in the past but had not received from other lawyers before her. We ultimately achieved our goal with me gaining confidence that the legal system isn’t just one sided. Courtney Kelledes is a knowledgeable, down to earth, professional lawyer!

Robert was recommended to me by a friend, and my past experience with lawyers was not great, to say the least. I had always seen them (in injury circumstances) as someone who has the tools and vocabulary but essentially acts as a middle man that just takes most of what you are due. Not SO with Bob. After hiring, he was very upfront with me about the circumstances and scenarios that my motorcycle accident & claim would lead to, and he helped me every step of the way. By the grace of God, and his professional team we reached a result that was beyond satisfactory. He worked at a speed much faster than the state of California and was always one step ahead of everyone else. If you have need for a personal injury lawyer I can't recommend Bob enough. He's professional, timely, candid, and will work his hardest to make sure that you are fairly represented, and given your best chance when pitted against insurance companies and 3rd parties.

I have never engaged a lawyer for anything before, and was incredibly reluctant to do so. But on the advice of friends after several months of trying to get a resolution on my own proved frustrating and fruitless, I got in touch with Bob to help sort out medical bills from a bike/auto collision. Bob was thorough in his explanations, incredibly responsive and refreshingly realistic at every stage about possible outcomes. Thankfully, the situation was resolved in my favor - but even if it hadn't been, I would have been very pleased with Bob's professionalism and service.

I hired him for a difficult case and he has worked hard on the case. He keeps me updated, which is rarity with attorneys. He is highly energetic and wonderful at working the case that other attorneys lacked the knowledgeably to hit all the angles. (I did a lot of lawyer shopping for the right one.) I was very impressed and if needed will use him again.

Background: a life insurance company was holding up our lump sum payment because of some technicalities. Another lawyer thought that we may need to fight the insurance company in federal court, which would be expensive and time consuming. That's when we decided to meet with Elizabeth. Thanks to Elizabeth's experience (and the support of her talented team), they were able to get this matter settled in just two weeks! Based on her negotiations with the insurance company, we didn't have to A) settle the matter in federal court, and B) pay the insurance company's legal fees, which they were seeking. We were thrilled with the strategy, service and results provided by Elizabeth and her team. Thanks again!

I made the biggest mistake of my life one night and was pretty sure that I had destroyed my career and my life. I called Rob on the recommendation of a friend and he immediately talked me off the ledge, showing care and compassion that an idiot like me did not deserve.. Once the proceedings started, Rob was as effective as could be imagined with regard to handling the case but more importantly he kept me fully informed about what was going on. He not only knows the law, he knows people and he knows how judges think. He framed my case to the court in such a way that I ended up getting supervision when I deserved much worse. In the end, Rob saved my butt with his great skill, I was truly lucky to hire him as my attorney.

When the sellers where trying to keep my earnest money because the deal fell through, Attorney Favors, was dedicated, determined and successful at getting the money returned. Hiring an Attorney for any process you enter into is very important, but getting an Attorney who can explain the law In layman terms and advise you in the process is what I appreciate and admired most about Attorney Favors. Albukerk more than anything listens! He is the only lawyer to win a case of Medicaid or Medicare fraud in the Chicago area and also to win the release of a man falsely accused as a sexually violent person who had been jailed for 30 years. He gets in there right away and preserves evidence of your innocence. If you are guilty he has the experience and knows the prosecutors and judges and how to get you the lowest possible sentence on a plea bargain. The only negative is that he tends to be blunt about worse case scenarios - but I believe that is only a matter of informing you honestly of the fact that the courts do not necessarily follow the law and juries and judges do not necessarily go by the evidence. There is far too much politics and prejudice in the courts and in juries. He is about as good as you will get and his prices are moderate. My family has used him for a collections case, for criminal defense, and I have watched him help friends with divorce cases and police excessive force cases.

Daniel Lauber assisted two of my company's with zoning issues pertaining to 3 different CBRF's or group homes for the elderly / disabled. He attended council meetings, talked with city attorneys, met with city planners as well as the mayors. He also, assisted us with meetings with the neighbors. He is respected by the city attorneys and they listen to him closely. His credentials seem to put fear into city planners / attorneys, and he does get results. I would recommend him for any legal needs for I know he always does his research and is always well prepared for meetings / court. He will never let you down.

If you've ever tried to zone a halfway house (for any special population), you know that an act of Congress won't get it done. It takes an act of God. Mr. Lauber was invaluable to my zoning efforts to obtain a special use permit to operate a community corrections facility for convicted felons in Colorado. Since he remained in Chicago and all the communication was done via phone and email, the details of communication became even more important. I had a failed attempt (at another location) approximately 2 years earlier and was nervous that all my work on this project would end the same way. I contacted Mr. Lauber after reading about his expertise with halfway houses. He partnered with me in the exact manner that I needed. Based on feedback I received from my previous attempt, I knew that I had to actually do the zoning hearing presentation, not an attorney (I really think this varies based on local politics). Mr. Lauber worked with me to gather all the necessary research, conduct a neighborhood informational meeting, and plan and develop my presentation to the zoning board. Perhaps most importantly, he was an excellent cheerleader. When the going got tough, he was upbeat (but realistic) and eager to support my efforts and challenge me to get the next step done rather than get lost in anxiety. His knowledge of zoning law in general and his willingness to get up to speed on my local zoning laws was exceptional. He communicated directly with the planning dept when I ask him to and gave me advice on how to handle it when I wanted to deal with it personally. In other words, he let me drive the train. He was there to offer support and expertise as I needed. Thankfully, I listened to him. The process of informing everyone under the sun prior to the hearing was important. The zoning hearing was ugly but our presentation was impressive and really did not give the zoning board any option other than to vote in the affirmative. The zoning hearing lasted from 5 pm until 10:30 pm. The first person I called after the hearing was my wife. The second person was Daniel Lauber. With the combination of experience, knowledge and trustworthiness, you would be making a mistake to go with someone else.

Unfortunately, I found myself Indicted and charged with three federal felonies including bank fraud and money laundering. From the moment of my arrest over two years ago to the moment of my acquittal, Mr. Scott J. Frankel was clearly a gift from God. With patience, professional grace and decorum, sincere kindness and decency, Mr. Frankel shepherded me through the valley of death. His brilliant lawyering coupled with a keen perspicacity for the truth, was delivered to a jury in a fashion necessary to give me my life back. He did a great job listening to my situation and transforming it in his own words on paper, EXACTLY as I wanted. I couldn't be happier! You'll be in good hands with Seth.

In a pandemic-slowed case, Megan stayed positive and maintained good communication. The preparation and support for the deposition and the settlement conference were especially helpful. Despite delays and a strong defense from the company, we were able to reach a satisfactory settlement. I would definitely recommend Megan and her firm.

Jason represented me in a lengthy legal action where he had to represent me a few courts as we won each court battle. He acted very professionally at all times and kept me informed as he planned and executed a very successful strategy. Additionally, he explained legal matters clearly to me when I had no idea about legal issues. His understanding of Illinois law, and just as importantly, how the legal system works in Chicago was a great asset. I couldn't be more happy with his efforts on my behalf.

David represented us for my husbands serious work related injury. Ours was a very difficult case that stretched out over 8 long years with many twists and turns.Even though it took a long time through no fault of his own, he remained very dedicated to our case. He never gave up. With his extensive knowledge of the law and grit, David represented us so well that we received above and beyond what we originally asked for after our case was presented by him in court. Our case is now entered into the law books as law due his efforts. Both he and his staff worked very hard for us. They always answered questions, returned calls promptly and were very patient with us throughout the years. The whole firm could not have given us better service if they tried, we are so thankful for each and every one of them. We never really understood before all that an excellent lawyer goes through and does until we saw David in action on our case. He is truly an honest, compassionate and hard working man. He does not accept cases to make money but to make sure that justice is served. We feel we were both blessed and honored to have Mr. Kupets as our attorney and will forever be grateful to him. If the need arose we would not hesitate to have him represent us again. We highly recommend this very wonderful lawyer!

Ren is an experienced, skilled, and compassionate attorney. He sucessfully represented me in a very complex and lengthy case. Where he worked tireslly to obtain an acquittal in a case that another prominent local criminal attorney told me could not be won. Additionally, as an Army Veteran he was uniquely well equipped to understand, empathize with and advocate for Veterans and Wounded Warriors like me. As I struggled with losing rights I had personally fought to defend. Thanks for all your great work Ren!

Through Mr. Langone I was able to bring a class A misdemeanor down to a petty crime with only a fee for the court of ~$250 and 40 hours of community service. Everyone else who I know who has been to court for the same problem as i have has had to do at least a few sessions of driving school and has paid usually twice as much. He knew how to handle the case and through his expertise I was able to get over it with minimal difficulty. Highly recommended

Joel was the first attorney that believed in me and I felt comfortable talking to about my case. He did everything that was asked of him and that he promised he would be able to perform. He is a very good listener, which is why I hired him. (not always comfortable discussing problems with strangers) He works quickly and continued to communicate with me on the status of my case. I didn't need to call him for updates. Joel knew the laws that applies to my case. He fought hard for me in court and won my case. He is a top notch attorney and is reasonably priced. He cared about me as a human being not just as one of his clients.

.A number of years ago I found myself in the need of a lawyer. Having known Joel for many years he was the first I thought of calling. The police wanted me to come in, Joel picked up the phone, talked with the officer and came along with me. Joel cleared one of his typically busy days and met with me and the officer. Having Joel around was indeed a life saver in that I had no experience with situation like this. Joel conducts himself very professionally, knows his stuff and is confident in his abilities. Having Joel on your team adds someone who will work really hard on your concerns. For me a "huge" relief.

About seven years ago, during a difficult divorce, I began searching for a lawyer and reached out to Carri at Rincker Law. From the start, Carri stood out—our conversations were easy, and I never felt intimidated. She has a unique ability to make the legal process feel less overwhelming while maintaining a professional yet personable approach. What impressed me most was her clear and honest advice. Carri didn’t sugarcoat anything and was direct about what the law required, helping me manage my expectations and focus on what truly mattered. Even after my divorce was finalized, she remained accessible for other legal guidance, which was invaluable. I’ve already recommended Carri to friends and wouldn’t hesitate to do so again. Her expertise, combined with her down-to-earth demeanor, made a challenging situation much easier to navigate. If you’re looking for a knowledgeable lawyer who genuinely cares about her clients, I highly recommend Rincker Law.

What a Civil Rights Lawyer Can Do for You

A civil rights lawyer focuses on protecting individuals whose constitutional rights have been violated by government authorities, employers, or private organizations. These lawyers specialize in cases involving discrimination, police misconduct, freedom of speech, and other fundamental rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws, such as the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Fair Housing Act.

Whether you've been discriminated against due to race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics, or you believe your civil rights have been violated by a government entity, a civil rights lawyer can help you seek justice, hold wrongdoers accountable, and secure compensation for any harm you've suffered.

When Should I Hire a Civil Rights Lawyer?

You should hire a civil rights lawyer when your constitutional rights or other protected rights have been violated, and you need legal assistance to seek justice. Some key situations in which you may need a civil rights lawyer include:

  • Employment discrimination: If you have faced discrimination at work based on race, gender, age, religion, national origin, or disability, a civil rights lawyer can help you file claims under laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Police misconduct or brutality: If you were the victim of police brutality, unlawful arrest, racial profiling, or other forms of misconduct, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit for violations of your Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
  • Freedom of speech or assembly violations: If your First Amendment rights to free speech or peaceful assembly have been restricted by the government, a civil rights lawyer can represent you in challenging the violation.
  • Housing discrimination: If you’ve been denied housing or faced unfair treatment due to your race, ethnicity, gender, or disability, a lawyer can help you file a complaint under the Fair Housing Act.
  • Voter rights violations: If you believe your right to vote has been unfairly suppressed or you’ve faced discrimination in the voting process, a civil rights lawyer can help you fight for your rights.
  • Disability rights violations: If you’ve faced discrimination in accessing public spaces, employment, or services due to a disability, a lawyer can help enforce your rights under the ADA.
  • LGBTQ+ rights violations: If you've experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, or public services, a civil rights lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.

Hiring a lawyer early on can help you understand your legal options and build a strong case to protect your rights.

What Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Do?

A civil rights lawyer provides legal representation and advocacy to individuals whose rights have been violated. Their work can include:

  • Filing lawsuits: A civil rights lawyer can represent you in court by filing lawsuits against individuals, businesses, or government entities that violated your rights.
  • Advocating for policy changes: Civil rights lawyers often engage in advocacy work, pushing for reforms to laws and policies that infringe upon people's rights.
  • Representing clients in discrimination claims: These lawyers help clients file claims with federal or state agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, civil rights lawyers work to negotiate settlements for their clients before a case goes to trial, securing compensation for damages such as lost wages, emotional distress, or legal fees.
  • Defending freedom of expression: Lawyers may represent clients whose rights to free speech, assembly, or protest were violated by government restrictions or other actions.
  • Handling appeals: If your civil rights case has been decided but you wish to appeal the ruling, a civil rights lawyer can help you through the appeals process.

How Are Civil Rights Lawyers Paid?

Civil rights lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many civil rights lawyers work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win your case. Their fee is typically a percentage (usually 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that require extensive legal research or litigation, some lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some civil rights lawyers or organizations may work on a pro bono (free) basis or use a sliding fee scale for clients who cannot afford typical legal fees.
  • Flat fee: In specific cases, a lawyer may charge a flat fee for services like drafting legal documents or filing a complaint.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a civil rights lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal issue. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fee cases: For cases taken on a contingency basis, the lawyer’s fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Many civil rights lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For straightforward legal tasks, such as filing a complaint with a government agency or drafting legal documents, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Pro bono work: Some civil rights lawyers or nonprofit organizations provide free legal representation in certain cases involving important constitutional or civil rights issues.

Be sure to ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation to understand the financial commitment involved.

Top Questions to Ask a Civil Rights Lawyer

Before hiring a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with civil rights cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s employment discrimination, police misconduct, or First Amendment violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my case?
Ask the lawyer to provide an honest assessment of your case, including the strengths, weaknesses, and potential outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Inquire about the lawyer’s experience in cases with similar facts and legal issues.
  5. What is the timeline for resolving my case?
While exact timelines can vary, ask for an estimate of how long your case may take, from filing to resolution.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may work on parts of your case, so it’s important to know who will handle your legal matter directly.

How to Check the Credibility of a Civil Rights Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable civil rights lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific civil rights experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in civil rights law and have a history of handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience with civil rights cases.
  • Check for advocacy or nonprofit work: Lawyers involved with civil rights organizations, such as the ACLU or NAACP Legal Defense Fund, may have a strong reputation in the civil rights legal community.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A detailed account of the violation: Provide a written summary of the events, including dates, times, and any people involved in the violation of your rights.
  • Documentation and evidence: Bring any supporting documentation, such as emails, letters, photos, or video footage that may help prove the violation of your rights.
  • Records of complaints or reports: If you’ve filed complaints with a government agency or reported the violation, bring copies of those documents.
  • List of questions: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes of your case.
  • Information on damages or harm: Be prepared to discuss the harm you’ve suffered due to the violation, such as emotional distress, financial loss, or physical injury.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
