Stephanie represented me in my condominium closing (I was an out-of-state landlord). From my first interaction with Stephanie to my last, she understood my position and concerns, provided me with excellent legal counsel, and worked with me to bring my transaction to a timely and successful closure, despite a pretty strong pull back from the buyers after the inspection. As the title says, I could not have asked for better representation, and I highly recommend her services without reservation.

Stephanie has supported me as a trusted provider and highly capable attorney in multiple capacities for nearly 15 years now. Although I value her knowledge of securities law, intellectual property law, and contracts law, it is the speed, efficiency and efficacy of the work she has performed that has been so very valuable. Strongly recommend Stephanie on many levels, one of the VERY best.

I changed lawyers when I decided to go with Stephanie Perini-Hegarty. After seeing how well she explained things when I attended a conference that she spoke at, I felt I needed to have the CEO of my company meet her. I thought that it would be a hardsell to get him to change from having his attorney who was already in place and use Stephanie . However, I thought that it would be worth the try given that she has a natural act for making things that are complicated, simple for clients to understand, as opposed to how confused I felt when the previous attorney explained things and that is if the previous attorney was available. My CEO and my entire U.S. team met with Stephainie and I have to say that it was her competence along with her patience and fairness in compensation that grounded our decision to hire her for our international company. Now , we have used her for quite some time, and she has never changed in her availability and professionalism. I wish her the best of health and hope that she stays with us for the long term.

Attorney Itzkowitz represented me in a federal suit I filed against some major American corporations after I was raped on the grounds of an American owned hotel in the Cayman Islands 20 years ago. The case was poised to be a truly landmark case on many levels. At the zenith hour to the trial, it was settled out of court for a sum that helped me regain my life and belief in justice. I was literally homeless and had become disabled by my physical and psychic injuries. Although receiving no interest from the American press (except for a superb article in Layers Weekly) the settlement Mark facilitated made some global headlines. An article even appeared in newspapers in Japan. Mark Itzkowitz is a "super-lawyer" of Super Lawyers. His insight and brilliance regarding the international laws which impacted my case was astounding. Mark has also helped me in smaller family type matters since then. I have 100% confidence in Mark Itzkowitz's integrity and ability. 5 stars is not high enough praise.

Paul is absolutely the best at what he does. What makes him the best? He cares about your case, about you, and about your family. Every time I have called he always answers and if he doesn’t he calls me back the same day. He will keep you informed and fight for you. I would highly suggest appointing Paul as your lawyer

Attorney Paul Moraski is THE BEST criminal defense lawyer! When my son was falsely accused of a crime that he didnt commit and all the cards were stacked against him, we felt defeated. We called multiple lawyers and had multiple consultations and each lawyer agreed to take his case but they all wanted him to plead guilty. This would have meant my son pleading guilty for something he didn't do, having a permanent conviction record, possible jail time, license suspension, fines, and court fees. I understand that this was the fastest, easiest, and least costly way out but this would have had a huge negative effect on my sons life and his career. He would not being able to work in his profession and run his current business. He worked so hard to get where he is by going to college, his internships and now owning and running his own business. This entire ordeal was a devastating blow to my family and we were so blessed and grateful that we found Paul! ( He asked us to call him Paul during our first meeting) We knew from the first consultation that we needed to hire him! He was the first lawyer out of many that believed in my son and believed we had a strong case and didn't want him to just plead guilty. This entire thing was foreign territory for us. Paul was very knowledgeable through the entire process, he explained things to us in detail and kept my family in the loop the entire way during my sons case. We couldnt afford to retain a lawyer, but Paul worked with us on payment plans! Paul was very professional in and outside of court and is also a very sharp dresser! I would recommend Paul to anyone looking for a great defense lawyer!

Working with Joe Simons was the best decision I made for my Federal case in California. A process that took over 3 years from start to finish Joe walked me through each process. Constantly working with the prosecutor to get me a better deal all the way down to Probation. Joe is up front and honest with you from the beginning on what to expect and that made each moment easier to handle. Even flying out to California multiple times I knew I was in good hands. Joe was always there to answer any questions and even after sentencing he is still helping with technical aspects of probation. I 100% recommend Joe Simons and his Law firm. They will have your back throughout the whole process.

From the first phone call, we knew that not only would Tere guide us smoothly along the process, but she truly cared about helping our daughter get the services she needed. Tere communicates with both families and other professionals effectively and in a very timely manner, and she uses her negotiating skills to allow the parties to reach agreement in the best interest of the student. I recently faced a daunting array of charges, including Assault & Battery on a Family/Household Member, Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, and Improper Storage of a Firearm. With mandatory minimum incarceration looming, my freedom hung in the balance. Attorney Estes proved to be an invaluable ally during this challenging time. Through his skillful negotiation with the prosecutor, he orchestrated a plea arrangement that resulted in the dismissal of a majority of the charges. Remarkably, he secured a Continuance Without a Finding (CWOF) for the most serious offense, effectively avoiding the mandatory jail time that seemed inevitable. The resulting disposition was probation for one year, a far cry from the harsher alternatives I was initially facing. I cannot overemphasize the significance of having Attorney Estes as your defense lawyer when your freedom is on the line. His expertise, strategic approach, and unwavering dedication make him the advocate you want in your corner.

Steven worked with me diligently during a horrible divorce and custody battle. Not only did he work closely with my other attorney, but he also showed something very few attorney's do, compassion. He was so dedicated to making sure my family and the best outcome was what we got. He was able to truly, with my other attorney, my voice to be heard in court and went above and beyond to communicate and meet with me, even if it was out of the way for him. I have never had such a pleasant experience with Attorney Ballard in my corner with my other counsel and it was great to see someone truly care about justice and what it right vs wrong. I cannot thank him enough for his efforts and highly recommend him to anyone who needs someone that will fight for you and what matters most. He also has a great blog that is worth reading that gives you a great insight to just what kind of attorney he is and that is also what put my mind at ease when going in to trial during my divorce.

My life would be drastically different had I not employed the compassionate, understanding, effective, pragmatic, good humored, wise and tough advocacy services of Steven Ballard. Against the odds of a slowly changing court system that has traditionally favored only mothers as able and willing caregivers Steven blazed a trail that will afford my children the good fortune of being with their father a fair equitable and exact 50% of their lives. From hopeless despair through humble and triumphant success Steven was there every step of the way providing whatever I needed legally and emotionally while staying true and focused on the big picture with integrity. I called today to hopefully have a question answered and left a message on voicemail. Well, you know how that usually goes... 3 weeks later and you get a reply from an impatient person. Well nothing could have been further from the truth here. Attorney Smith got back to me less than an hour later, heand I discussed the issue that I was concerned about, he answered my questions, and informed me in more detail about what was going on. Couldn't speak more highly of the conversation that we had and if I ever needed to hire someone I would absolutely consider him based on the nature of my case. Thank you again sir for your help!

A tenant, who is a lawyer, kept delaying returning the inventory at the end of her lease and then sued me for triple damages when the deadline for returning the security deposit was exceeded. Chaisson-Aronoff analysed the papers and advised me to settle because the expense to me to fight the suit would exceed the fine. Thereby she saved me money that she would otherwise have been paid. I was outraged by the behavior of the tenant and ready to go to the mat, but Chaisson-Aronoff calmed me down, explaining that then even if I won the case, the lawyer tenant would have gotten the better of me. I am grateful to have saved the money and be spared the emotional turmoil fighting the case would have caused me.

As a retired senior corporate executive from a public company, I brought extremely high expectations. Paul was honest and realistic initially, presenting a well-defined picture of reasonable expectations and risk exposure. Coupled with his wise counsel, this allowed me to make informed decisions resulting in the best resolution possible avoiding any unnecessary expenses. He was very responsive and always available with a unique sense of empathy and compassion as well as extremely competent in suggesting decisions that balanced personal, financial and professional implications. I would highly recommend him for both simple and challenging legal needs.

Paul Klehm represented me and did a fantastic job. He was always willing to work with my busy schedule to make sure I had proper representation. The office is very organized, always on top of next steps, and able to walk me through what I should be expecting. I was very pleased with the outcome and would recommend Paul to anyone looking for a lawyer!

I was extremely happy with Attorney Kyziridis. She represented me in a simple issue that my ex-husband made overly complicated. She handled him politely yet firmly and was not willing to compromise on my desired outcome or be distracted by my ex's insane demands.

I contracted Mrs. Cummings for some advice on employment law. Even though she didn't have expertise in the specific area of employment law I needed help with, she produced a thorough, concise, and well-researched memo that far exceeded the results I've gotten from other boutique employment lawyers and is better than 95% of the work product I've received from white-shoe firms I've worked with in the past (that charge $800/hr or more!). Highly recommended

Google Review for Caleb Kaufman and His Firm I cannot thank Caleb Kaufman and his firm enough for the incredible support and honorable representation they provided me. Caleb went above and beyond to ensure that I can continue living a productive and civil life, and for that, I am forever grateful. His dedication and unwavering commitment to my case have not only changed my trajectory for the better but have also inspired me to keep striving to be the person I know I can be—someone my family, friends, and I can be proud of. Caleb, the energy and effort you’ve invested in my life cannot be repaid, but I promise to honor it by living up to the standard you’ve set and the trust you’ve shown. Thank you for everything you’ve done to help me through this chapter. Your impact will be felt for a lifetime. RR

I can't begin to describe how grateful I am to Andrew Brodie and his team of lawyers for the quality, responsiveness, and compassion of their service. A little context - I was hit by a car in a biking incident in downtown Boston. It was traumatizing and crippling, and after a few weeks of recovery, I realized there were a number of logistical issues I had to face. To be honest, I had a fundamental suspicion of lawyers and their motives, but I knew I needed expert help. Luckily in my search, I stumbled upon Jason & Fischer's website and read their profiles. Immediately, my initial suspicions started waning as I read about Jason & Fischer and their team of attorneys. This is a group that specializes not only in personal injury cases but specifically in bike-related incidents. As dedicated bikers themselves, they pride themselves in advocating for all bikers and the issues they have to face. I immediately called their offices and left a message on a Saturday. To my amazement, I received a call back less than an hour after I submitted my inquiry. They scheduled a meeting with me for that Monday. When I arrived at the office, Andrew Brodie greeted me, heard my story, and immediately did everything he could to help me. Given the nature of my case, I wasn't an ideal candidate for a settlement. At that point, Andrew and his team could have easily asked me to leave. Instead, Andrew insisted that he would be happy to represent and help me file important paperwork for me FOR FREE. For the next hour, Andrew helped explain my insurance options and helped me file every and all necessary documents to ensure that my medical bills would be covered. At the end of that extremely helpful and productive hour where Andrew helped protect me from over $5k in medical charges, grateful but still somewhat skeptical, I asked Andrew candidly, "what's the catch? How do I pay you for your help?" I'll never forget how Andrew replied, he said, "I don't just practice law to make money. I practice because I'm passionate about helping people." Overwhelmed with emotion, I almost broke out in tears. Andrew's genuine kindness and compassion helped turn a terrible situation into a manageable one. He's continued helping me through this process, and hasn't charged me a dime. Andrew and the team of lawyers at Jason & Fischer know that good business isn't just about making money at every turn. It's about building relationship and trust. They certainly built tremendous trust with me, and in the event that I (or any of my friends) ever need help / representation, the first place I will refer them to is Jason & Fischer.

Larry helped me with a lot of issues I was having on my website both technical and legal and resolved many problems I was having on it. I run a small cosmetic surgery theme website. He's conversant in matters of intellectual property, legal threats (from doctors who members of my board relay poor outcomes) and even things having to do with technical issues of the website. I was having some problems with people pilfering my intellectual property and not giving me attribution. He solved the problem.

Kent has been an invaluable legal advisor to my start-up business over the past year, particularly in the areas of privacy and vendor disputes. Privacy is a huge concern for any e-commerce based business such as ours and Kent is on the leading edge of this evolving area. His knowledge and understanding of privacy law is outstanding. But equally important, Kent has a unique skill of identifying practical solutions that keep the company protected and make excellent business sense. A second area where Kent has made large contributions to our company is in the area of vendor disputes. Like many companies, our success depends on effective working partnerships with dozens of vendors and consultants. Despite doing ones best to select the best and most honest partners, there are are always situations where vendors do not live up to their end of the bargain or try to change the rules previously agreed to in a contract. Kent's help in such situations has been absolutely invaluable. In fact, Kent's advice and actions have enabled us to squash all such issues before significant impact or cost to the business. Finally, in addition to providing invaluable legal council, Kent has a great business intelligence and has provided excellent input into related areas of business strategy. He is also an absolute pleasure to work with. All in all, the best lawyer I have worked with in my few years as an entrepreneur and few decades as an executive in corporate America!

I have been Alex's client since February 2014. Starting off as my court appointed lawyer, when I picked more cases, though I could not afford a new lawyer, I had called Alex and let him know my situation. He ended up making it to my new charges case hearing and picked up my new case so I would not have to get another court appointed lawyer. He is a excellent attorney and has an all around great personality. He will do his absolute best to understand you and your case. He is a respected man in the field, and will do everything possible to win your case! I highly recommended him.

What a Civil Rights Lawyer Can Do for You

A civil rights lawyer focuses on protecting individuals whose constitutional rights have been violated by government authorities, employers, or private organizations. These lawyers specialize in cases involving discrimination, police misconduct, freedom of speech, and other fundamental rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws, such as the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Fair Housing Act.

Whether you've been discriminated against due to race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics, or you believe your civil rights have been violated by a government entity, a civil rights lawyer can help you seek justice, hold wrongdoers accountable, and secure compensation for any harm you've suffered.

When Should I Hire a Civil Rights Lawyer?

You should hire a civil rights lawyer when your constitutional rights or other protected rights have been violated, and you need legal assistance to seek justice. Some key situations in which you may need a civil rights lawyer include:

  • Employment discrimination: If you have faced discrimination at work based on race, gender, age, religion, national origin, or disability, a civil rights lawyer can help you file claims under laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Police misconduct or brutality: If you were the victim of police brutality, unlawful arrest, racial profiling, or other forms of misconduct, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit for violations of your Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
  • Freedom of speech or assembly violations: If your First Amendment rights to free speech or peaceful assembly have been restricted by the government, a civil rights lawyer can represent you in challenging the violation.
  • Housing discrimination: If you’ve been denied housing or faced unfair treatment due to your race, ethnicity, gender, or disability, a lawyer can help you file a complaint under the Fair Housing Act.
  • Voter rights violations: If you believe your right to vote has been unfairly suppressed or you’ve faced discrimination in the voting process, a civil rights lawyer can help you fight for your rights.
  • Disability rights violations: If you’ve faced discrimination in accessing public spaces, employment, or services due to a disability, a lawyer can help enforce your rights under the ADA.
  • LGBTQ+ rights violations: If you've experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, or public services, a civil rights lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.

Hiring a lawyer early on can help you understand your legal options and build a strong case to protect your rights.

What Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Do?

A civil rights lawyer provides legal representation and advocacy to individuals whose rights have been violated. Their work can include:

  • Filing lawsuits: A civil rights lawyer can represent you in court by filing lawsuits against individuals, businesses, or government entities that violated your rights.
  • Advocating for policy changes: Civil rights lawyers often engage in advocacy work, pushing for reforms to laws and policies that infringe upon people's rights.
  • Representing clients in discrimination claims: These lawyers help clients file claims with federal or state agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, civil rights lawyers work to negotiate settlements for their clients before a case goes to trial, securing compensation for damages such as lost wages, emotional distress, or legal fees.
  • Defending freedom of expression: Lawyers may represent clients whose rights to free speech, assembly, or protest were violated by government restrictions or other actions.
  • Handling appeals: If your civil rights case has been decided but you wish to appeal the ruling, a civil rights lawyer can help you through the appeals process.

How Are Civil Rights Lawyers Paid?

Civil rights lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many civil rights lawyers work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win your case. Their fee is typically a percentage (usually 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that require extensive legal research or litigation, some lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some civil rights lawyers or organizations may work on a pro bono (free) basis or use a sliding fee scale for clients who cannot afford typical legal fees.
  • Flat fee: In specific cases, a lawyer may charge a flat fee for services like drafting legal documents or filing a complaint.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a civil rights lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal issue. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fee cases: For cases taken on a contingency basis, the lawyer’s fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Many civil rights lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For straightforward legal tasks, such as filing a complaint with a government agency or drafting legal documents, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Pro bono work: Some civil rights lawyers or nonprofit organizations provide free legal representation in certain cases involving important constitutional or civil rights issues.

Be sure to ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation to understand the financial commitment involved.

Top Questions to Ask a Civil Rights Lawyer

Before hiring a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with civil rights cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s employment discrimination, police misconduct, or First Amendment violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my case?
Ask the lawyer to provide an honest assessment of your case, including the strengths, weaknesses, and potential outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Inquire about the lawyer’s experience in cases with similar facts and legal issues.
  5. What is the timeline for resolving my case?
While exact timelines can vary, ask for an estimate of how long your case may take, from filing to resolution.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may work on parts of your case, so it’s important to know who will handle your legal matter directly.

How to Check the Credibility of a Civil Rights Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable civil rights lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific civil rights experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in civil rights law and have a history of handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience with civil rights cases.
  • Check for advocacy or nonprofit work: Lawyers involved with civil rights organizations, such as the ACLU or NAACP Legal Defense Fund, may have a strong reputation in the civil rights legal community.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A detailed account of the violation: Provide a written summary of the events, including dates, times, and any people involved in the violation of your rights.
  • Documentation and evidence: Bring any supporting documentation, such as emails, letters, photos, or video footage that may help prove the violation of your rights.
  • Records of complaints or reports: If you’ve filed complaints with a government agency or reported the violation, bring copies of those documents.
  • List of questions: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes of your case.
  • Information on damages or harm: Be prepared to discuss the harm you’ve suffered due to the violation, such as emotional distress, financial loss, or physical injury.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
