Excellent representation. Mr. Yu help our family when we were being sued because of something that wasn't our fault. He got us out of the massy law suit. I wish him the best and I'd hire Mr. Yu again in the future.

My critique is precipitated by a significant lack of professionalism I have observed in his practice, both in terms of his interactions with clients and his approach to legal tasks. The efficiency with which Attorney Schorsch handles legal tasks leaves much to be desired. A proposal that should ideally have taken a week to draft has spanned over six weeks under his direction, and it has yet to be completed. When queried about the progress and expected completion date, he tends only to offer excuses instead of concrete timelines. On a notable occasion, a provided deadline was missed without any reasonable explanation or subsequent revision of the timeline. This disregard for efficiency and punctuality is of grave concern, as it portrays a lack of respect for clients' time and the professional standards of the legal field. Moreover, I spent an inordinate amount of time - ten hours, to be precise - in Attorney Schorsch's office, during which he exhibited a propensity for excessive, non-constructive conversation. His conduct in this situation leads me to question the value and appropriateness of his time usage, especially considering the charges associated with such meetings. In the interest of full disclosure, I must note that I am not a client of Attorney Schorsch. Instead, my interaction with him came in the capacity of opposing counsel. While this might raise questions about bias, I believe the need for professionalism and efficiency in the legal profession transcends any personal affiliations, and this critique is grounded in that perspective.

He may be a good lawyer, I have no idea and I do not intend to find out. I advise everyone to be careful about the nice talk, the smile and the time spend with it and the price that will be associated with it. There are a lot of other attorneys to choose from that you can choose, work without having the feeling that you get ripped off.

I am so grateful that I found him! I’m a very skeptical person and I interviewed a lot of different attorneys. I picked Mr. Clark because of his no-nonsense attitude. He is very direct and does not sugarcoat anything! He informed me of the pitfalls of my case and the course of action that he recommended. His advice was spot on and the tables were turned in my favor. A lot of people want to be coddled when they hire an attorney. They want their attorney to give them all the fluff/rainbows and unicorns. If that is what you prefer… Robert is not your attorney! He is a lawyer that knows his mission is to protect you. That’s what I hired him for and that’s what he did. I highly recommended him!

I recently retained Mr. Clark to represent me and here is the brief overview: 1) Showed up to court nearly an hour late, almost got sanctioned and for reprimanded for texting during the hearing! 2) Relied on the other defendant in my case to prepare and write our motions for court while billing me. 3) Was unaware I was being deposed and was made aware by a third party, was not prepped, left mediation for nearly 3 hours while everyone (including other party) waited in his office. 5) Refuses to give me an itemized list of expenses and any explanation of what work he did on my case to justify him keeping my retainer. This attorney nearly lost my case due to negligence, was incoherent, absent physically and mentally much of the time and I had to fire him and obtain new counsel.

We hired Mr. Clark as our lawyer because of a business litigation. Although the case got dismissed, Mr. Clark's representation just added to our problem. He was very rude and disrespectful when we would try to speak with him, and to complicate this further, he would cut us out when we spoke on the phone. It's as if he had no intention of forming a relationship with us, but was rather intent on finishing the job and collecting the money as very quickly as possible. It makes my blood just boil recalling me asking him questions and him just ending the conversation on the spot. Even he counted the cash we gave him to hire him in front of us inside his office. Our case just reopened recently and although it's stressful, we went along with a different, respectable lawyer in the Dallas area. He has shown us more hospitality than Mr. Clark.

I thank god i found mr kenneth and his awesome team ...i was at a point where i thought there was no other option for me than jail but when i hired mr kenneth he and his team explained to me what was going to happen . They relieved me from all the stress i was going thru. Up to right now they have done an exellent job dealing with not just one but with several cases in different counties. On top of all that the quote he gave me was super really good compared to all thus other attorneys i went before i found him. He also lets you work wirh him on payments and in case you are shorth he will give you the chanse to pay him what you can. If i ever get in trouble again i will with no doubt give him a call and let him fight my cases.

The entire office is rude and has a terrible lack of communication. Actually, i take that back. It's not a terrible lack of communication it's actually non-existent. They NEVER follow through with what they say they'll do, and when you are forced to follow up with them due to their negligence, they have the nerve to be rude. And yes this includes the attorney Kenneth as well!! It's as if they're bothered that clients are actually expecting them to do the job that they've been paid to do! I would never in a million years refer anyone to this attorney nor do i wish to ever cross paths with them again.

terribly rude staff, gives you the run around constantly, the attorney Thomas Sellers will even interrupt and hang up on you when you’re trying to clarify the debt and what you’re needing. I was told to further my “reading comprehension” and that he “doesn’t care” about my questions. He proceeded to tell me how good I had it with the debt, even though we’re still negotiating it. You sure would think they could answer some questions in trade of a 1 lump sum payment. He went on to explain how I could get around the $3000 court fee, yet any other basic question I asked, I was talked over or told that’d be legal advice.

Even though he could have made alot more money taking my case to court he never pressured me in that direction as I didn't want to go that route. He was very honest and very upfront with my options and the outcome he would forsee since he had seen these cases before. I must say he was right on and I so appreciated his insight and honest suggestions. He was excellent at keeping me informed and was always availble if I had a question. Lauren failed to follow through with our executed agreement, missed court deadlines, failed to file paperwork in a timely manner and failed to make court appearances. He does not return calls and many many times does not answer calls. He rarely answers emails and seems to always have excuses as to why he has not done this or that in a timely manner. It took him more than 5 months to file my suit and then we sat at square 1 for months and months while he procrastination and continued to not communicate. He continued to ask for more money and did not ever give me an invoice of any kind. My case had to be moved out of state and he was to find an attorney in that state, and he asked for even more money to pay the new attorney and for himself, yet after 2 months he still had done nothing about hiring the out of state attorney. Instead all I got was excuses that he had been ill, his wife had been ill , his computer was giving him problems and on and on. I fired him, asked for a return of the money I sent him for the out of state attorney and for the extra he wanted for himself. I had to fire him via phone message and email. I have not heard back from him. Save yourself grief and pass this attorney up. He wasted my time and charged me many thousands of dollars. I have never dealt with an attorney who drug his feet and was so hard to contact as this man.

First of all, I will acknowledge that some of our trouble was due to the 2020 Pandemic. Mr. Sheetz got our single-decendent will into the probate courts in a timely manner and the court shut-down happened about 30 days later. We waited for a phone hearing and kept checking with Mr. Sheetz, but he said he was still waiting to hear from the courts for a date. I called the Probate court to find out about the current processes and was informed that the lawyers were supposed to call to ask for an appointment. I let Mr. Sheetz's office know about this and got a call later that day from him that we had a court date set for three weeks from that day. I confirmed with him that he would hire the necessary notary public and that we would meet in his Dallas office. At 5:00 pm the day before the hearing, he called to tell us that we needed to hire our own notary. After several attempts, we were able to find a mobile notary that was available. We were also required to print out our own blank documents to take with us to the meeting (at the lawyer's office). The next day, Mr. Sheetz was not at the office to meet us. He was at the Fort Worth office instead of the pre-arranged meetup in the Dallas office. His office was locked (another lawyer was inside on a call and would not let us in) A building manager was able to procure an empty meeting room for us to have our phone call. The court clerk began the 3-way call and we were able to proceed. After the hearing, Mr. Sheetz told us that the court would send the final order to him and we would be able to pick them up. Today, we called to check up on the orders, and were told that we had to order it ourselves. All of this is 7 months following the initial filing for a process that should have taken 30 days per Mr. Sheetz. Meanwhile, the estate home, vehicles and financial property is still in limbo and cannot be settled until we can get the court order.

This is the worst law attorney/ car accident attorney ever. After getting into a car accident almost two years ago. Nothing has been done , excuse after excuse. Never calls me back and the other attorney always comes up with excuse as to why this isn't over. I would call and Valencia and she would say oh your case is going to court, next few weeks they have gave my case to another law's office without me agreeing to letting another attorney taking my case. They knew after a few weeks of taking my case if this was going to be harder. I guess I can say Shaun Naidoo runs when things get hard , this was my first accident, and the experience with someone hitting me head on and the attorney running too as been frustrating. I will be talking to the bar Association because they gave my case to someone else without contacting me to even ask me if i wanted somone else. I've never even had a sit down with Shaun Naidoo. Run before he bells out on you.

What a Consumer Protection Lawyer Can Do for You

A consumer protection lawyer specializes in safeguarding individuals from unfair, deceptive, or fraudulent business practices. These lawyers advocate for the rights of consumers in disputes with businesses, helping clients recover damages related to fraud, defective products, false advertising, or violation of consumer protection laws. They work to enforce laws that prevent businesses from taking advantage of consumers and ensure that businesses adhere to fair practices.

Whether you’ve been the victim of a scam, sold a faulty product, or misled by false advertising, a consumer protection lawyer can help you navigate legal options and pursue justice.

When Should I Hire a Consumer Protection Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a consumer protection lawyer when you’ve encountered unfair or illegal business practices and need legal assistance to resolve the situation. Common scenarios include:

  • Fraud or deceptive business practices: If a company misled you into purchasing a product or service under false pretenses, a lawyer can help you seek compensation.
  • Defective products: If you purchased a product that was unsafe or defective and caused harm, a lawyer can help you file a product liability claim.
  • False advertising or unfair pricing: A lawyer can assist if you were misled by deceptive advertising or charged for services or products in a way that violates consumer laws.
  • Debt collection harassment: If you're being harassed by debt collectors or are facing illegal debt collection practices, a consumer protection lawyer can enforce your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
  • Credit report issues: If errors on your credit report are affecting your financial standing, a lawyer can help you resolve disputes with credit reporting agencies or creditors under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
  • Predatory lending practices: If you've been subjected to unfair loan terms or practices by payday lenders or mortgage companies, a lawyer can help you challenge the loan and seek a resolution.
  • Data breaches or identity theft: If your personal information was compromised due to a company’s failure to protect your data, a lawyer can help you recover damages related to the breach.

What Does a Consumer Protection Lawyer Do?

A consumer protection lawyer provides a wide range of services to help protect consumers' rights and seek compensation for harms caused by businesses. Their role may include:

  • Filing lawsuits: Representing clients in lawsuits against businesses that have violated consumer protection laws, whether through fraud, deceptive practices, or negligence.
  • Negotiating settlements: Working with businesses or their insurers to negotiate fair compensation for damages caused by unfair practices or defective products.
  • Pursuing class action lawsuits: When a company harms multiple consumers, a lawyer can represent a group of plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit, seeking collective damages.
  • Advising on consumer rights: Helping clients understand their rights under various consumer protection laws and advising on the best course of action.
  • Handling product liability claims: Representing clients who have been injured by defective products and holding manufacturers or retailers accountable for the harm caused.
  • Defending against debt collection harassment: Enforcing the rights of consumers under the FDCPA and other laws that protect individuals from abusive or unlawful debt collection tactics.
  • Resolving credit report disputes: Helping clients correct errors on their credit reports that may be causing financial harm or affecting their creditworthiness.

How Are Consumer Protection Lawyers Paid?

Consumer protection lawyers typically use different fee structures depending on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work required. Common payment methods include:

  • Contingency fee: For many consumer protection cases, such as class actions or product liability claims, lawyers may work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (typically between 25% and 40%) of the awarded amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases or ongoing legal disputes, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates can range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as reviewing a contract or filing a small claim, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the necessary legal work.
  • Retainer fee: For clients needing ongoing legal assistance, some lawyers may charge a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment that is billed against as the lawyer works on the case.

It’s important to discuss fees upfront with your lawyer to understand how you’ll be charged and to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Consumer Protection Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a consumer protection lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal service required. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fee cases: For cases handled on a contingency basis, the lawyer typically takes between 25% and 40% of any settlement or damages awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for consumer protection lawyers generally range from $150 to $500, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or cases involving complex legal issues.
  • Flat fees: For specific services like contract reviews or handling a small claims case, flat fees may range from $500 to $2,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Class actions: In class action cases, fees are often paid out of the settlement or damages awarded, and individual plaintiffs usually do not have to pay upfront.

Make sure to ask for a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to avoid surprises and to understand how much you can expect to pay.

Top Questions to Ask a Consumer Protection Lawyer

Before hiring a consumer protection lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and skills to handle your case effectively. Key questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with consumer protection law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases like yours, whether it involves product liability, fraud, or debt collection issues.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a contingency fee, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and what outcome you can reasonably expect.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Make sure the lawyer has experience dealing with similar legal issues, whether it’s credit report disputes, data breaches, or defective products.
  5. What is the timeline for resolving my case?
While it can be difficult to predict exact timelines, the lawyer should give you a general idea of how long your case may take to resolve.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case, so it’s important to know who will be working on your claim.

How to Check the Credibility of a Consumer Protection Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable consumer protection lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Check for experience in consumer protection: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to confirm they specialize in consumer protection law and have handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle consumer protection cases.
  • Look for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA) can indicate that the lawyer is committed to protecting consumer rights.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a consumer protection lawyer, come prepared with all relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Details of the product or service in question: Bring any purchase receipts, warranties, or contracts related to the product or service involved in your claim.
  • Documentation of your complaint: Provide evidence of your complaint, such as email exchanges with the company, photos of a defective product, or a timeline of events related to the dispute.
  • Communication with the business or debt collector: If you’ve communicated with the business or debt collector, bring copies of letters, emails, or phone logs.
  • List of questions: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes for your case.
  • Information on damages: Be prepared to discuss any financial losses or harm you’ve suffered as a result of the unfair business practices, including medical bills, lost wages, or emotional distress.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer understand your situation more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed with your case.
