Ben's recommendations of endless depositions, motions, bate-stamping, experts, etc tallied up to astronomical monthly bills that we paid under the belief that we would see justice in the courtroom. We went to court and 'won' absolutely nothing. Not even close. We spent more money on litigation than we could ever hope to recover in any settlement. Now that the case is over, absolutely nothing has changed in our predicament. In fact, its gotten worse while our legal 'family' just walks away - with our money of course. As for opposing counsel stating 'hiring Ben to represent me', I'd think twice. You were/are an awesome attorney in the courtroom and though not on the same side as us, we recognized your obvious expertise. I'd recommend YOU in a heartbeat.

My Name is Natalie and as HR Director for 5000 employee’s I can tell you how important it is to find the right employment counsel for those times when needed. Ben Stone, Attorney at law has been the right counsel for the issues that our business has encountered. On numerous times he has guided us through the maze and complexities of employment law. The polite mannerism and professional interaction bestowed upon us by Ben is another important aspect that should not go unsaid. I could not have asked for a better experience with an employment law attorney than with Ben Stone. The circumstances of my case were complex, sensitive, and personally extremely important to me. Ben was strategic in his approach, clear/wise. He listened carefully to what mattered most to me. He crafted an effective path forward that was consistent with my values. He carefully tracked the details of the case and was always prepared for the next step forward. He was always very timely in his responses to my emails and phone calls. Throughout our work together, Ben would always lay out very clearly the different approaches we might take, and the pros/cons for each. He was balanced in his counsel and willing to fully support my decision. I could not have asked for a better experience and person to assist.

I cannot say enough good things about Erin. I read the other reviews and well the bad ones make me think she dodged a bullet. She was fantastic in my real estate case and even returned my calls on the weekend. She came out to my property on a Sunday and I did not see it on my bill and she said "happy birthday"; it was not my birthday. Great results!! She is down to earth, wore a megadeath hoodie and flip flops, then won my case in a suit jacket, but I am pretty sure she still had the megadeath hoodie on. She was even nice to my neighbor who I was arguing with. We all ended up coming up with a solution. She told me, "I can take your money, but you might as well spend it on yourself, lets find a cheaper solution." and we did.

We hired Daniel Rogers to represent us in a property line dispute. The duration of our contact was 4 months. I give Dan the highest recommendation as he guided us through the laws that impacted our situation which turned in to an adverse possession of what was originally our property. but now legally was our neighbor's. What I appreciated most was his ability to listen to and understand my concerns and feelings; then with sensitivity he explained the law, talked about our options, and interfaced with the other party's attorney. When I questioned his ideas he worked diligently to answer all of our questions. Even though the final outcome was not what I hoped for, in hindsight it was the best solution. Dan was so patient with us and he was right in his advice. We were not the easiest clients to handle, but Dan navigated our case very well. Because of Dan we have a deeper understanding of the law. Without hesitation we will employ Dan again if we need legal counsel.

I initially worked with Dan over a year ago regarding a dispute with a previous employer with which I needed some guidance. Dan was professional, honest, and extremely responsive in helping me resolve this matter. He had a clear legal understanding of the issues at hand, was very fair in how he billed his time for me, and always replied to my phone calls and emails within 24 hours. Additionally, Dan was incredible about proactively reaching out to me to keep me informed every time something happened, whether or not it required action on my part. I was so happy with my experience that when I needed a lawyer to review a contract for a business opportunity that emerged, Dan was the first call I made. While my first experience was good, my second experience was even more impressive. The contract negotiations for this opportunity came right up against a deadline and Dan went above and beyond to make sure that everything was completed on time (I believe he even worked over the weekend to accomplish everything). My experiences with Dan have been so good that I have not hesitated to refer him to my family, friends, and clients. If you are ever in need of an honest, trustworthy, and knowledgeable attorney, Dan is your guy. I look forward to doing more business with him as needed in the future.

For nearly a year Dan Rogers was working my wrongful termination case. In that time frame he acquired absolutely no useful or beneficial discovery from the opposition while diligently meeting their every demand. His inexperience and naive nature allowed him to bullied and swayed by both opposing counsel and his own management to the detriment of his client and case. Often during our tenure working together Dan Rogers would contact me detailing a discovery he had made in the case. Each and every one of these discoveries was something that I had already explained to him months prior. Usually more than once. Ultimately I was told that my input and opinion were not needed in my own case because I was not an attorney and therefore could not understand the process. After alienating most of the witnesses and getting one terminated my case had been damaged almost beyond repair. I warned Dan Rogers about the negative possibility of each one of these aspects and was ignored at every turn. He proceeded against my advice and the result was predictable.

I used Mr. Peterson on an eviction. He anticipated every defense and was ready to counter each one. He kept the cost down, while letting me know what this action could potentially cost. I've used other real estate attorneys for evictions, but none were better. I'll use him for all my future real estate work AND my evictions.

Adolfo has represented my husband now for eight years. My husband's case is extremely complicated, but Adolfo is very knowledgeable in immigration law, and because of him my husband is still here. Here is a good example of how honest he is: When I first met him my husband was detained, and Adolfo told me from the get-go he did not think my husband would be eligible to get out on a bond, and if he did get out he said it would be at least $10,000 . My husband did get out on a bond for $5000. As you can see he was completely honest, and has been throughout the eight years he has represented my husband. We are honored to have him as our lawyer.

I hired Ojeda as our immigration attorney after having reached out to and talking with four other highly rated attorneys. I finally hired him after having to fire an attorney that was rated 10 here on Avvo. I'm so thankful I found Ojeda through word of mouth, it changed everything! I've never had to go through anything like this, it's confusing, and overwhelming. It's honestly scary to have to trust someone you don't know to handle something so big, so important. There's a reason people will tell you to hire him. He's honest, he's real, he works hard, and he's insanely knowledgeable. And he was willing to share that knowledge with us, even about little things like how to visit or send things. He knew so much more than the other attorneys, and he has the experience and wins in court to back that knowledge up. If your loved one is in there, have them ask around. They will tell though how good he is, and how many cases he is winning and how many people he had helped. We are so thankful to Ojeda and I will tell everyone who needs a great immigration attorney to hire him, because that is what he truly is. If you read this Ojeda, thank you thank you thank you for how much you have done for us so far and everything you are still doing.

This guy was incredibly unprofessional. He began by asking my age and then asking if I get menopausal, moody... like his wife (he also used a few swear words to describe his wife). He was extremely unprofessional, rude, condescending and arrogant. He kept talking about himself and how good he was, then would ask me a question about my case, then interrupt me mid sentence and begin talking about himself again. His conversation was incoherent, random, and uninformed. Finally, when he began outright criticizing me I just hung up on him. I would never trust him to work for me.

Jamie Robyn Graves-Haslam helped me obtain an order of protection. She was very professional. She was extremely helpful in answering my multitude of questions. I was impressed how timely was in her responses to me and not only did she provide superb legal assistance and representation she also showed me she truly cared. Her compassion towards me and my case made going through the process much less stressful. As a long distance Co parent who is disabled and unable to travel, I consulted with and subsequently hired this attorney to do a writ of habeas after child was kept from returning home. That was 3-2016. I still haven't seen my child. She could have been the key to getting an autistic child home but now his location is unknown. She took the case, left out of the country a week later for a week, came back to my panic over new information (allehe'd and false) but refused to check info. Instead withdrew and stated they were too busy to take me on. Since that time I've been unable to gain confidence to go pro se or hire another atty due to severe anxiety and fear.

I have had an excellent experience with CCL and Ms. Choi in the matter of a complicated easement / title situation. The office staff was super responsive, appointments were scheduled quickly and in collaboration with my schedule/availability, and the meetings I had with Ms. Choi were focused, organized, and super productive. I felt that Ms. Choi was prepared for the meetings, understood what I was dealing with, and discussed with me multiple options and potential outcomes regarding this legal matter, which is going to end up in Court. I could not have asked for a better attorney for my situation (and I have consulted with others prior to CCL) and I very much look forward to my ongoing work with CCL and Ms. Choi. Unfortunately, during our reunion, she seemed more focused on protecting herself than genuinely assisting me. However, when I attended my USCIS appointment today, everything was in order, and the concerns she raised did not materialize. It was a stressful experience unnecessarily.

I did not have a good experience with the law firm. My main issues is that Boyoon Choi would repeatedly interrupt me and cut me off before I could finish speaking and there were some mannerisms like scoffing (in a subtle but noticeable way) that came off as pretty condescending and I received a general negative feeling from the tone of voice she used with me. She was also 6 minutes late to our Zoom meeting but cut our 30 minute meeting short nonetheless so we really only had 24 minutes together. I'm sure she would probably bill the time for 30 minutes to my MetLife benefits and not the 24 minutes that I actually got. The way I see it, if a client does not have the correct understanding then inform them in a respectful way. Trying to be subtle with mannerisms like quietly scoffing or responding with a negative tone, one that felt a bit indignant towards me feels less like you're working with someone that's trying to advocate for you and more like you're talking to someone that's trying to take out whatever stress she may be having towards you. It seems that no wonder her staff seems to sound a bit on edge over the phone as I can imagine what it can be like to be subjected to that over time. She also knew that my home is in Snohomish County but told me that she can't help with the eviction process in that area, but took my money through my MetLife benefit anyway. That's pretty messed up. Lastly, I also felt it was problematic to be told that she did not know the RCW that covered why a 90 day notice to vacate due to sale is not enforceable unless it is specifically mentioned in the lease agreement. When I requested clarification for her to specify how is this the case, she could only tell me it's part of the general landlord tenant rights that a lease agreement has to specify that an early termination can take place due to sale and that this language would not be specifically mentioned due to it being covered under the general umbrella of tenant rights. However, RCW 59.18.650 clearly states it's permissible for a landlord to end a lease agreement early with cause for the purpose of selling a home. Boyoon Choi should really be careful with giving advice that she clearly does not know the basis for. It is concerning when you ask for the RCW that she does not know it, and scoffs at you while mentioning it's part of the general rights for a tenant. Anyways, here is what I was told by another source about the permissibility of ending a lease early to sell the home: In Washington State, typically, if a landlord provides a 90-day notice to vacate for the purpose of selling the property, this is generally considered lawful. In Washington State, the enforceability of a 90-day notice to vacate due to the sale of a property typically does not require a specific clause in the lease agreement stating that sale of the home entails the tenant moving out. The standard process allows landlords to issue such a notice as part of the rights to dispose of their property, assuming other legal and procedural requirements are met (e.g., proper notice period and service). Lastly, she was also incorrect about my MetLife legal benefit. She said I don't have benefits for litigation as part of my benefit but in my MetLife portal it clearly states: "This service covers the Participant as a landlord for matters involving leases, security deposits and disputes with a residential tenant. The service includes attorney services for the eviction of a tenant up to and including trial."

Do not use Joel Bradshaw to be the lawyer for a irrevocable trust. The trustee would not give an accounting or bank statements and receipts to the beneficiaries, which is required by law, and Joel Bradshaw defended the trustee instead of the beneficiaries. He must not have informed the trustee of the law. The law requires the trustee to look out for the best interest of the beneficiaries not use the trust money in whatever way they please. Mr. Bradshaw also told beneficiaries the trustee could not produce the bank statements because they were in "storage". I guess he never heard of "online banking".

A consumer protection lawyer specializes in safeguarding individuals from unfair, deceptive, or fraudulent business practices. These lawyers advocate for the rights of consumers in disputes with businesses, helping clients recover damages related to fraud, defective products, false advertising, or violation of consumer protection laws. They work to enforce laws that prevent businesses from taking advantage of consumers and ensure that businesses adhere to fair practices.

Whether you’ve been the victim of a scam, sold a faulty product, or misled by false advertising, a consumer protection lawyer can help you navigate legal options and pursue justice.

When Should I Hire a Consumer Protection Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a consumer protection lawyer when you’ve encountered unfair or illegal business practices and need legal assistance to resolve the situation. Common scenarios include:

  • Fraud or deceptive business practices: If a company misled you into purchasing a product or service under false pretenses, a lawyer can help you seek compensation.
  • Defective products: If you purchased a product that was unsafe or defective and caused harm, a lawyer can help you file a product liability claim.
  • False advertising or unfair pricing: A lawyer can assist if you were misled by deceptive advertising or charged for services or products in a way that violates consumer laws.
  • Debt collection harassment: If you're being harassed by debt collectors or are facing illegal debt collection practices, a consumer protection lawyer can enforce your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
  • Credit report issues: If errors on your credit report are affecting your financial standing, a lawyer can help you resolve disputes with credit reporting agencies or creditors under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
  • Predatory lending practices: If you've been subjected to unfair loan terms or practices by payday lenders or mortgage companies, a lawyer can help you challenge the loan and seek a resolution.
  • Data breaches or identity theft: If your personal information was compromised due to a company’s failure to protect your data, a lawyer can help you recover damages related to the breach.

What Does a Consumer Protection Lawyer Do?

A consumer protection lawyer provides a wide range of services to help protect consumers' rights and seek compensation for harms caused by businesses. Their role may include:

  • Filing lawsuits: Representing clients in lawsuits against businesses that have violated consumer protection laws, whether through fraud, deceptive practices, or negligence.
  • Negotiating settlements: Working with businesses or their insurers to negotiate fair compensation for damages caused by unfair practices or defective products.
  • Pursuing class action lawsuits: When a company harms multiple consumers, a lawyer can represent a group of plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit, seeking collective damages.
  • Advising on consumer rights: Helping clients understand their rights under various consumer protection laws and advising on the best course of action.
  • Handling product liability claims: Representing clients who have been injured by defective products and holding manufacturers or retailers accountable for the harm caused.
  • Defending against debt collection harassment: Enforcing the rights of consumers under the FDCPA and other laws that protect individuals from abusive or unlawful debt collection tactics.
  • Resolving credit report disputes: Helping clients correct errors on their credit reports that may be causing financial harm or affecting their creditworthiness.

How Are Consumer Protection Lawyers Paid?

Consumer protection lawyers typically use different fee structures depending on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work required. Common payment methods include:

  • Contingency fee: For many consumer protection cases, such as class actions or product liability claims, lawyers may work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (typically between 25% and 40%) of the awarded amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases or ongoing legal disputes, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates can range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as reviewing a contract or filing a small claim, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the necessary legal work.
  • Retainer fee: For clients needing ongoing legal assistance, some lawyers may charge a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment that is billed against as the lawyer works on the case.

It’s important to discuss fees upfront with your lawyer to understand how you’ll be charged and to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Consumer Protection Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a consumer protection lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal service required. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fee cases: For cases handled on a contingency basis, the lawyer typically takes between 25% and 40% of any settlement or damages awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for consumer protection lawyers generally range from $150 to $500, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or cases involving complex legal issues.
  • Flat fees: For specific services like contract reviews or handling a small claims case, flat fees may range from $500 to $2,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Class actions: In class action cases, fees are often paid out of the settlement or damages awarded, and individual plaintiffs usually do not have to pay upfront.

Make sure to ask for a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to avoid surprises and to understand how much you can expect to pay.

Top Questions to Ask a Consumer Protection Lawyer

Before hiring a consumer protection lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and skills to handle your case effectively. Key questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with consumer protection law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases like yours, whether it involves product liability, fraud, or debt collection issues.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a contingency fee, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and what outcome you can reasonably expect.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Make sure the lawyer has experience dealing with similar legal issues, whether it’s credit report disputes, data breaches, or defective products.
  5. What is the timeline for resolving my case?
While it can be difficult to predict exact timelines, the lawyer should give you a general idea of how long your case may take to resolve.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case, so it’s important to know who will be working on your claim.

How to Check the Credibility of a Consumer Protection Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable consumer protection lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Check for experience in consumer protection: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to confirm they specialize in consumer protection law and have handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle consumer protection cases.
  • Look for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA) can indicate that the lawyer is committed to protecting consumer rights.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a consumer protection lawyer, come prepared with all relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Details of the product or service in question: Bring any purchase receipts, warranties, or contracts related to the product or service involved in your claim.
  • Documentation of your complaint: Provide evidence of your complaint, such as email exchanges with the company, photos of a defective product, or a timeline of events related to the dispute.
  • Communication with the business or debt collector: If you’ve communicated with the business or debt collector, bring copies of letters, emails, or phone logs.
  • List of questions: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes for your case.
  • Information on damages: Be prepared to discuss any financial losses or harm you’ve suffered as a result of the unfair business practices, including medical bills, lost wages, or emotional distress.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer understand your situation more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed with your case.
