Her professionalism and diligence led to the successful representation of an adult client with autism in criminal court. She is one who, along with the letter of the law, has not forgotten the spirit of the law. Attorney Wells is truly an advocate of truth and right. She has restored my believe that the legal system can work the furtherance of justice. May God bless and use her to bless others like us.

Cameron Parsons, Jr. assisted me with my Will and some Domestic issues. He was very professional, and informative. Cameron is understanding as to the situation or case that I had. His work is exceptional and I had a quick tour around. I was able to communicate with Cameron when needed. I have sent friends that needed an attorney to Cameron and they were pleased. Cameron cares about his clients and wants the best outcome for each client.

When I met with Brett, it was two days before my court date. I had an attorney but was due to 'renew'. I decided not to move forward with my previous attorney because I did not get the communication and thoroughness I needed for my case. Because of this experience, I researched, called and spoke to every attorney that I could find in the area, even looked up to see if they had any issues with the state. I visited with and spoke to over 10 different attorneys. Luckily, through a referral I was introduced to Brett two days before my court date. Because of the timing I needed to make a decision fast, Brett went out of his way to meet me on his day off on a Sunday. (Literally, what attorney does that?) Looking back, I knew the other attorneys lacked the vigor and passion I was looking for and that’s why I waited. Brett has the vigor and passion for his work. I asked him if he could handle my case if it went to trial, the thrill in his voice and eyes almost scared me LOL (He is definitely born for this job.) Thankfully, my case never went that far but most of the time, the average person is under this assumption that most attorneys are smart and can do the job. WRONG! I had seemingly smart, polite and well-spoken attorneys tell me that I had to settle for an agreement that was unfavorable in many ways. They wanted the easy way out in my opinion. I knew that was not the right answer for me. Brett has the courage to fight for what is right, which many attorneys lack courage. He also has the wisdom and strategic approach to get the best results. Additionally, he is extremely sharp, smart, witty, matter of fact, tactful, responsive, strong work ethic, has integrity, a winning mentality, well respected and has great relationships. I would recommend him 1 million percent. Hands down, the best attorney in his area of expertise in Alabama. You also need to do your part in providing him the information he needs to be successful in your case. Do your part so he can do his! Also, follow the rules, keep him updated and give him the information he needs in a precise manner so he has the information do what he needs to. His staff is also super responsive and so easy to work with. My case didn’t move at all, then when it got to Brett, it started moving quickly. This is where many attorneys or their staff can screw it up by missing paperwork etc, thank goodness Brett and his staff are on top of things. He literally changed my life. Brett is not the cheapest attorney you will find at all but he is the BEST attorney! If you want the best, call Brett. He is truly a gift from God!

Mr. Clark has the ability to see and approach a case in ways other lawyers would not even dream of. He is an absolutely brilliant trial lawyer, and his desire to put his clients' interests first is unmatched. For him, the Law is not a business, it is a calling, almost bordering on a religious conviction, and that is a quality for which there is no substitute.

He helped me with a mishap I had when passing through Enterprise. I couldn't afford all the money up front but he helped me out and got my charges dismissed. It took me two years to completely pay him off bc I fell on hard times. He never once pressed me to pay and always acted as thought he understood. I finally got him paid off last month. I must say, he's not only a stellar court room lawyer but he's a good dude.

Living out of state, I was not familiar with an attorney in Alabama. I had a real estate issue that could not be corrected by myself, and I knew that I would need legal help to facilitate. Kate quickly returned my call and offered to research and get back to me with how she might be able to help me. I received a call the next day outlining what she was able to do and her plan to achieve the outcome that I hoped to get. I hired her that day and have never regretted it for one minute. Not only did she represent me and get the outcome that I needed, but she did it quickly, keeping me updated along the way. Thank you Kate. I can now say I have an attorney in Alabama!

We hired the Shane Taylor firm for a custody battle for my daughter. I'm a married father trying to reverse a prior custody arrangement in Alabama. Essentially impossible. This firm worked their butts off to do everything they could. I had Mary Elizabeth for my first hearing. After that, due to medical reasons, I had LeAnn Jackson. Everyone there did amazing and I am so grateful. We won. Absolutely worth every cent and an absolutely amazing law firm.

I have not had the opportunity to have to hire many attorney's in the past. Just one for my divorce & now Mr. Luck for a mistake I made. The best decision I ever made was retaining Mr. Luck. I never do reviews but I felt it necessary to maybe help save someone's life some day. Being a 30+ year enforcement officer I have seen nearly every attorney in this area in court room action and there are some dumba%€#@@ out there. I assure you that the legal disclosure that attorney's have to place with there ad "saying that the legal representation of this attorney in no way constitutes that the legal services performed is better than another attorney (or something in that affect)" is a whole bunch of bull%#£@&!!! Attorney's are no different than any other professional. There are much better mechanics, doctors, carpenters, and so on. So there is a vast difference in the quality & the expertise of the attorney that you hire. And let's face it, if you are hiring an attorney then your very life or way of life is on the line. Do your research & do not hire an idiot. Mr. Luck has his crap together & I would highly recommend him without question. Let's face it, usually when we need an attorney you are probably not having a very good day. You are scared, confused & it feels like your life has been turned upside down. Are you going to put your life in an idiots hands. I thank not. I was referred to Mr. Luck through a mutual friend & he came highly recommended. I am very pleased with the work & the time he has spent with me. He has always had the time to sit down with me & explain what is going on with my case. His knowledge in different areas of the law is excellent. We are still in the middle of my situation but I can tell you this, we have had 2 major & 1 minor issue come up & he has won each of them. Not only is Mr. Luck a dang good attorney, he is a very nice & humble man that actually cares for his clients. In my opinion, he is even better than advertised. So do yourself a favor if you end up needing an attorney from anything involving criminal charges to child custody / divorce and everything in between. This man will be there for you & he will fight for every ounce of your rights & then some. I am not a paid endorser. I wish I was and my legal problems would just go poof.! I am a regular person just like you & don't think it can't happen to you. We all make mistakes & when your car breaks down are you going to use that Chinese part that cost a few bucks cheaper just to only leave you on the side of the road one day? If you are like me you will fix it the right way the first time & never have any troubles with it again. Do the same when it comes to your life & hire the best man for the job & give yourself the best chance to survive. Please take this from a man that has 30+ years of experience in the legal system & knows the best when I see it. Hopefully you will never need an attorney but if you do, take it from me & call Mr. Luck. You will not be sorry. Thanks Terry, for believing in me & being there for me.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
